1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10

GamerTell – 99 out of 100

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10

  • Personally, I dropped more than 300 hours into P3 FES, and recently picked it up again for another playthrough in anticipation of this release. It was my introduction to the Persona series, and not only stands out as my favorite Persona game, but I can proudly say it is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Now that it’s portable and with more content, I expect I’ll throw a few hundred more hours into this release. The only downside? My girlfriend might feel as neglected as she did when P3 FES came out :P

  • The new female protagonist is what I’m most excited about, but also being able to control every party member is a big plus.

  • I literally got a psp to play this game…now I like my psp and all but if p3p wasn’t coming out for it….yeah. I’m ready to spend another 150+ hours on this game :) And it being portable is a bonus.

  • I really love the fact that Atlus is always taking care of their faithful. I am excited about P3P for the new content. Is this one going to have an Answer chapter as well? Making the game portable will open up so much time for me to be able to enjoy all the new content I just do not know what to say. I have been uber excited about this game and have had it pre-ordered since I learned about it in March. Thanks again, Atlus!

  • I’m SO excited for this game, I’ve been a huge fan of the series for years! And, actually, I already own all of the Persona soundtracks because I truly love the music <3

But the reason I am most excited for this remake is for the new "Maniac" difficulty level. I have fallen in love with the story, characters, and gameplay, and the increased difficulty will push me even harder to conquer the dark hour :D

  • The reason that I’m excited for Persona 3 Portable is mostly to relive the nostalgia of the game. The story is one of the best in any RPGS I played so far. The first Persona 3 version was the first Persona game I played. It was so good I continue to buy FES. And now Portable is out, why not? lol Plus, curious on how the female storyline plays out. Overall, I’m excited about everything. The music, the moral lessons, the social links, I just love Persona 3. Meguro-san, My hats off to you, once I get Junpei’s hat. lol

Good Luck to everyone here and hope to get the soundtrack. And Atlus and Arum, Good work so far and good luck on your next project. You have the fan’s support.

  • Oh sweet. I’m most excited about the new content and it’s portability. The switch to a female protagonist (of FeMC as people affectionately call her lol) opens up a whole new side of them game. I seriously can’t wait to get addicted to this.

  • Why am I excited for P3P? Well why wouldn’t I be? Is just one of the greatest game out there for PSP. I am a full-time engineering student and I’m in school for 10 hours or more Mon-Thurs! I need a game that would keep me from hating my classes! =) Thank you ATLUS and Thank you Sony! You have save me from hating my Major! =)

  • I can’t wait to play P3P to experience the new female role. I definitely want to try out the new maniac difficulty while exploring tartarus and I want to rescue citizens while I’m exploring the tower too.

I want to relive the Persona 3 story that I enjoyed so much in the original P3 and FES. I also can’t wait to hear what new music and remade music in P3P. Persona 3 music has been some of the best I’ve heard from a JRPG in a long time. And of course to get Junpei’s hat for my collection of Persona paraphernalia.

  • I’ve actually been looking forward to Persona 3 on the PSP ever since it was announced. Also waiting on NA release of Kingdom Hearts.

  • I must admit I have been frothing at the mouth since the announcement was made for Japan for P3P. I really just love how everything in this game meshes together, its is really a game anyone can enjoy. Which is saying alot for a RPG about High School students, though I think thats what impresses me the most about Atlus’s titles; they are extremely thought provoking and mature. Not in a shameless flashing of T&A but mature from an intellectual standpoint. I think thats what really excites me the most about Persona that I know I will get not only my moneys worth but that the story will engross me in a way only the Persona series can. Thanks for making products for real gamers to play!

  • I’m excited for P3P just for the fact that it adds pretty much a whole new experience with a female Main Character! That and the fact that we can date the boys now too is awesome. :D

  • Hi. I think I just want to live Persona 3 again.

  • I’m psyched for P3P cause now I can play one of my favourite RPG’s on the road. Thanks for all the great games Atlus! ^.^

  • Im just excited about the idea of spending another 90 hours on this master piece, this time in the go and with the female character, Minako, taking the journey this time.

  • Due to Atlus blog posts usually generating a TON of comments, and the fact i don’t have the time to read through each one just wanted to ask is this open to Canada?

If so, consider the below my reason:

You can never have to much Igor

  • Your asking us as gamers to tell you what we are most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P title. I would like to inform you of the imposable task in which you request. There is no singular thing that exceeds any other aspect of P3P. In short… IT’S PERSONA.

  • SuperSonicKirby

Looking forward to controlling the other party members in battle. :)

  • I’ve been a Fan of the Megaten Series since I played Nocturne. The Persona Series has become My Favorite in this Massive Series since I played Persona 3: FES. I love Persona 3, 4, & the PSP Version of The First One, (Own Em All) and I jumped at the Opportunity to Preorder the PSP Version of 3. (Getting a Real Version of Junpei’s Hat Helped, heh) I’m also a big Fan of the Music in Persona because It tends to not be of the Standard RPG Fair. It just makes the Battles and Atmosphere of a Particular Scene Fit. So, Winning a Soundtrack would Definitely be an Awesome Bonus. Mostly, I’m actually looking forward to the New Perspectives that a Female Protagonist will bring to the Already Amazing Story Persona 3 had to begin with. I also like some of the Changes to the Battles/Dungeon Crawling Sections I’ve read about. So, I can’t wait until July 6th so I can start Re-playing this Epic Game on the Go. (Another Big Plus) I’ve been Playing FES and 4 almost Non-Stop in Anticipation. ^_^

  • Since I heard about this game earlier this year I have been eagerly awaiting it. Unfortunately I cannot pre-order it but I’ll be at the store the day it comes out to get my copy! It’s the best game I’ve ever played and my bandmates and I have been trying to write out the scores for some of the pieces so we can perform them. I am soooooooo excited!

  • I’m excited that it might give them the opportunity to port P2 IS and EP to the PSP as well.

  • ForeverWandering

I’m looking forward to playing as the female protagonist. And the changes in that version.

  • I’m really excited to play Persona 3 Portable, it was just two years ago when FES came out and I was addicted for months. It will also give me a reason to play my PSP again since I haven’t picked up a new game for it since last year. Hopefully, P3P gives the PSP some new life. I bet with the success of this game on PS2, it will translate over on the PSP as well.

    Go P3P! :)

  • HosannaExcelsis

I’m excited to be able to play Persona 3 with the refinements to the combat from Persona 4; after playing P4, I’m not sure I can go back to a combat system where you can’t manually control your allies. And long RPGs work great on handhelds, where they can be broken into bite-sized portions instead of having to find long stretches of free time to seriously work at them. This is such a great fit for the PSP. I look forward to next week!

  • The real question is: What’s not to be excited about?

I’ve had this game pre-ordered since I was first able to do so. Sweet hat + the greatness of Persona 3 + refined systems + playing through again now with a female character + being able bring P3 with me wherever I go. If I had to pick one, it’d be the control improvements, but playing on the road is rather high up there.

I’m so excited that I fear for my health. Will I remember to work, eat or sleep when I could be playing P3P? Will I even remember to come home? Will I become homeless because of P3P?

Remember, you’ll actually die if you shoot yourself in the head.

  • There’s so much new stuff happening with P3P, it’s hard to pick one thing to be excited about. Off the top of my head, getting a fresh new perspective on one of my favorite RPGs ever has me pretty jazzed right about now.

  • what I’m most excited for is the new playable girl and with her new social links because personally I hate the first few social links the male starts with. I’m really escited

  • Owning the first two iterations of Persona 3, I’m buying this yet again because of two main reasons. One, having this portable makes this by far my most convenient since I have multiple times to play the game in contexts that I can’t with my PS2 versions.

Secondly and most importantly, I’m intrigued by the heroine since the SMT series in general has shied away from heroines for some reason. And hey, more awesome Shoji Meguro music (I personally prefer the new combat songs) is always a great thing in my book!

  • This’ll be the third time I’ve fully play this game all over again. How could I not get it? Dating sim and all; I’m sure pimpin’ Minato is still gonna be awesome like usual.

Gotta get all my pre-order goodies. If I get that signed cd, I’ll probably have everything. Good ol’ Atlus fanboy dreams, eh?

  • I can’t wait to play as the female protagonist! What secrets will be revealed?!

  • What I am most excited for is just owning Persona 3 Portable. When I first learned about Persona 3, I quickly fell into love with it. I played it basically nonstop till I beat it. And then I beat it again because I loved it so much. And now, the fact that I can take it with me wherever I want and a new main character is very exciting! I honestly can’t wait for these next four days to go by.

  • I’m personally looking forward to the fem-MC story and to see how different it is from the male storyline.

  • Yay Persona3 for the PsP this is the reason i bought a psp only month and instantly pre-ordered this game at the same time. I played the P3FES for the Ps2 and instantly loved the game, bgms, and story. I’m looking foward to the new features being added to P3P and the pre-order gift as well (even if Junpei wasn’t my favorite charcter) and the addaition of a femal protagonist is just interesting.

  • I think I am the most excited to try out all of the new additions to this re-release since I already played the original two. I’d love to play as the new female character, especially considering how before I was always forced to play as a guy and I am not one… Also, I just really love P3. It’s the game that brought me back to gaming after a ton of other disappointing RPGs released at that time, so it’d be great to relieve it!

  • I’m looking forward to adding even more “Shin Megami Tensei” items to my collection, and with this one coming it’ll be one more to having the almost complete collection. Also I have the P3 & P3 FES Soundtrack, having this one will just make it all better.

I’m excited to see all the new things added, and see how playing as a female with go with the stories and event with the characters. There are so many things that I cant wait to see from this game and hearing another one of Shoji Meguro’s work would be great.

  • ive been a long time supporter since atlus came out years and years ago. no matter the title i collect them all. the persona series happens to be one of my favs and im really looking forward to it on the psp. main reason being that i can now take the experience i had on the console and enjoy it on road trips or even late at night when the girlfriend is asleep and im up due to different work schedules. heres to hoping we get a persona 2 reprint in the future as well =)

  • Being able to date shinji! Thats right I said it!

  • The thing I’m most excited about with Persona 3 coming to the PSP is that, with Persona 1 already out, is the announcement that Persona 2 (hopefully both versions) will get a port as well! Make PSP the Persona player’s choice console. Come on Atlus you know you want to.

  • I’m looking forward to having a good reason to re-play one of my favorite JRPG’s, now with better gameplay! (I’m also looking forward to the handsome new Attendant~)

  • I’ve always loved the art style Shigenori Soejima used in the character design in P3 and P4. I am an aspiring character design currently in college right now, and though i try to sway away from the anime style, his art is the inspiration in alot of my conceptual art. I’ve love the lining style. Also, i have the entire soundtrack from p3 p3fes, and p4 on my iphone (i bought p3 twice so i wouldn’t have to open one of them). I have an undying love for this game, and to have an autographed soundtrack from the series would be a crescendo in my hum-drum life. Thanks for reading my lengthy paragraph!

  • Totally looking forward just to playing the game on a handheld, and checking out the girl version.

  • I’ve been a fan of the Persona franchise for sometime now and I’m ecstatic to see Persona 3, my favorite game of the Persona series, getting a PSP installment. I can’t wait to bring it with me when I’m on the go! I’m actually excited for all of the new features, but I’m really intrigued as to how the story will change when playing as the Female MC instead of the Male MC.

But what I’m most excited for is, coincidentally, the new soundtrack for the Female MC. I adore all of the Persona soundtracks, especially for P3, so I can’t wait to hear Shoji Meguro’s genius at work once again!

  • Persona 3 was my first RPG, not only has that dulled my enjoyment of every other RPG, but has spawned an obsession for the entire Persona franchise that persists to this day. As of late the VG industry has seen countless revivals of previous console generation franchises and an increasing interest in retro games; I can think of no other game I would rather replay than Persona 3. Mostly becuase of the protagonist, those headphones….I own a pair, and is it even possible to have more awesome hair than him?

  • Pretty much this:

    1.Female Protagonist
    2.Plot
    3.Social Links
    4.Controlling party in battle
    5.Music, definitely

  • Definitely the new songs from the Female’s side. They all sound so good, from what I’ve heard so far. I can’t wait to hear Meguro’s new tracks.

  • Kokatsu_Fuiuchi

the fact that you can play as a girl! it is portable and has new features!!!! can’t wait, thanks!

  • Well, I’d like to say “EVERYTHING!” as Persona 3 Portable is my favorite video game of all time. But I know I won’t win this since 10 is such a small number and nothing awesome ever happens in my life and Shoji Meguro is my favorite musician (I’m not making this up), so this would be awesome.

Regardless, I’ll cut it down to one thing. Basically, I’m excited to see the differences in how the characters react to you when you are a female instead of a male. I’m excited about all the new stuff, and the portability, but this one strikes me the most. I’ve played Persona 3 about five times now, and I can’t wait to dive in and see the differences in character interaction.

  • Please ignore this if my other post went through, it doesn’t seem to me that it has, and I’d really like to enter this.

I’m most looking forward to see how the characters differ in their interaction with you when you play as a female character. I’ve played the game five times now, and this excites me the most. But I’m looking forward to EVERYTHING, including the new soundtrack by Shoji Meguro (my favorite composer). I’ll be buying this soundtrack if I don’t win this for sure.

  • The ability to play Persona 3, ANYWHERE.

  • when I first heard about SMT P3P I thought someone was joking with me, and I looked around at atlus japan and sure enough persona 3 portable!!!!! I love every thing about these games. this will be the 3rd time I buy the game and I am happy to do so. I work at Game $top and I always recommend SMT titles to everyone and persona is at the top of that list. I have all Shoji Meguro’s SMT soundtracks on my ipod and make everyone listen to them at work. P3P can’t wait to play it!!!!!
