Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • I’m definetely looking foward to playing as the new female Mc,and can’t wait to hear the new music they added to the game, also can’t wait to see the overall new mechanics that they added to the game and the new vision quest sounds neat to.

  • I got P3 really late, and had just gotten to July when they announced FES for the US. So I stopped and waited. I got FES the day it came out, but had something else to beat first, so it got put off for a while. I had then gotten back to July when P3P was annoucned for Japan. Soo.. yeah. I’m looking forward to actually beating the game this time. I’m also looking forward to playing as a girl.

  • I’m super excited to be able to take one of the greatest RPGs of all times with me wherever I go.

  • Can’t wait to pick this up, the Persona portion of the SMT series has always been a favorite of mine ever since I played the first one back in 1996, and was even more excited when I saw Persona 2 in 2000.

Seven years later I saw that Persona 3 was coming out in the US, I was a bit skeptical at first not knowing if it would live up to the first two since they had been such a big impact gaming wise on my childhood, but I decided to give it a shot anyways and WOW, was I blown away by how epic this game was, I liked everything about it. The story, the music, the characters, the battle system, the Persona system I just loved it all!

Either way, this game comes out soon and I can’t wait to play this again on my PSP while wearing Junpei’s hat. :P

(Hopefully we see another Persona game maybe on the PS3! Persona 4 was great too! :3)

  • The reason why I am excited for this game is that we can replay the Persona 3 Experience but finally now on the go! Along with that we can enjoy Shoji Meguro’s amazing soundtrack, the enjoyable gameplay , and play through an awesome story yet again.. I loved the original Persona 3 and also loved Persona 4 so because P3P has a mix of both games in it (Like the battle system of P4 mixed with P3) this will be a great game to pick up and play on the go!

  • I’m super excited for Persona 3 Portable for dating the guys! Finally! We can go out on dates with Akihiko and Shinji. I also can’t wait for silliness with Teodore. Finally girls get their chance to date all the guys :D

I’m also excited to hear the new music, of course! As always, Meguro’s music doesn’t disappoint. I loved his music since playing Digital Devil Saga. He has a way with guitar that is just magical~. Seeing him play live on videos was amazing! I wish I could attend his live concerts!

And lastly, being able to play Persona 3 wherever I want is another reason why I’m excited to pay this game! I can’t wait to get my copy :D

  • The new music by Meguro has me so excited that I could just awaken to my Persona any second now! I sure hope Igor doesn’t come to me in my dreams though…

  • I’m just excited to replay this amazing game with all the new features that come with it. Now I can even play it in the comfort of my bed. Or a treehouse. Which will be awesome.

  • Everything about Persona 3 was perfect. What is there to NOT be excited about all that, plus tons more, ON THE GO?

  • I’m looking forward to playing it with the female character.

  • Will saying that I think Persona 4 is one of the best games ever created and that I’m the guy who wrote the Persona 3 Portable official thread on NeoGAF win me brownie points towards getting one of these soundtracks?

  • After hearing people talk about the game so highly for years, I’m finally going to try and overcome my disinterest in JRPGs since in this version I can put in standby and not grind for hours between save points. Also I can’t wait for my radical hat.

  • Alkaline_Trio666

Love the music, gameplay, mythology. And now its portable! Cant wait!

  • Can’t wait to play as the MShe with party characters as social links. That, and player-controlled battle system(STOP USING TENTARAFOO MITSURU)

  • I’ve Bought the Game before, Will be buying it again on PSP :D
Can’t Wait to play it when i’m out and about :D

  • I’m most looking forward to getting Persona 3 Portable because of the new female main character and her new Social Links.

  • JetForceGemini1

I’m excited to play through Persona 3 again! Plus the hat is awesome!

  • Junpei’s hat for the triumph! I’m psyched for P3P because it’s Persona 3. Portable. Loved it for the PS2, loved P3: Fes, and will love this as well.

  • Getting the game to see what’s different playing as female MC. P3 is easily my favorite Persona

  • I still have an unopened copy of P3 on my backlog so I’m excited about actually playing the game, although I should probably play my PS2 version first so that this upcoming version won’t immediately go on the backlog.

  • I’ve always loved Shoji Meguro’s music and that’s the main reason U’m so eager to get this. Persona 3 on PS2 is one of my favorite games, the Battle For Everyone’s Souls is the best final boss song ever and the battle is damn epic!

  • I just love this game, actually the whole persona series. I got this game when it first came out for the ps2, then i just had to get the FES version for all the extras. And now I’m dead set on getting this version for the PSP; I’m really glad to have the oportuinty to play a female role. All the while listening to the tracks that I have grown to know and love. I still find myself humming them at random while at work.

  • Can’t sleep so excited. less than three days left.
    must charge psp. ____

  • Why do I want this game portable? Simple, I LOVED this game on the PS2! I’ll never forget this game, ever. The game is so memorable, and intriguing. From the thought-provoking story, to the simple grasp of the game play. On top of this, this wonderful piece of gaming history had the most memorable and one of the best soundtracks that has graced my ears. And now, I have the pleasure of having my favorite game of all time in my pocket?! Atlus graces my very being with this magnificent piece of art. I cannot express how extremely stoked I am for this. It’s going to be released in three days, but I would pay double the price to play it NOW.

  • I’m looking forward to the new battle option; the tactics will be far more competent with the ability to command your allies. That said, replaying this epic storyline and building the steadfast relationships this series is famous for will be as fulfilling as the first time.

Never mind that Meguro’s music is truly a musical orgasm and listening to the soundtrack, which was signed by the genius! Would be an awesome advent for any fan.

  • I can’t wait for this game, the battle gameplay that I’ve seen from this game looks great!
I also can’t get enough of the sim elements put into it!

  • I’m looking forward to having a near-heart attack as my Atlus collection becomes incomplete when the game comes out, only to have my worries fade away when I purchase the game and my collection becomes complete again. I only wish that the Junpei hat were larger, as it does not fit my XXXLBBQ-sized skull.

  • I cant wait to try the new gameplay

  • I cant wait to try the new story and the female storyline.

  • I’m looking forward to P3P because Persona 3: FES was such an amazing game and being able to play Persona 3 on the go would be fantastic. The style and story of the game are just phenomenal. The characters are interesting. My favorite aspect of the game is probably how you interact with the other characters in the game. That is what sets Persona 3 apart and makes it so great.

  • I am looking forward to the female protagonist which was added to the playstation portable version of Persona 3

  • is there a soundtrack limited edition version of it? , i know i won’t win this one, but i want it badly!!

  • It’s the unflinching story that deals with issues like pain, homosexuality, and addiction. Many games refuse to tread in risky territory; however Persona in general challenges the way those things are looked at. Being able to play through the excellent story on the go, and enjoy it again. Or it could be the addicting fusion of personas. or the excellent music (my favorite being the battle for everyone’s souls). Basically the sum of all the parts making a huge game on a tiny system. Can’t wait for it.

  • WanderingPhoenix

I’m looking forward to the added storyline with the female character and new social links. The idea of being able to play the game on the road is also extremely appealling. I am also hoping that this is a sign that Persona 5 might be closer on the horizon.

  • What I’m most excited about is that one of Sonys greatest titles is coming to sonys longstanding handheld console. two great powers colide to create the most immersive artistically powered games of all time ! If that doesn’t make your thumbs itch with anticipation nothing will!

  • It’s Persona, It’s greatness I can carry, I bought it 2ce and now that I dont have a ps2, but have a PS3 slim I cant play it anymore, looking forward to any new mixes from the portable, want to play the new battle system made for the P3P, He’s the best producer period in gaming and this will be the next fix of his music I get since the live Persona concert and lastly, It’s the last fix before Persona 5 wich I hope is almost here and going to PS3!

  • can’t wait to get my hands on it, thats the first day of my vacation from work, and i’m gonna play it every chance i get!

  • i already own persona 3 and persona 3 fes, so of course i wanna get P3P as well, its one of my favorite rpgs of all time, released by atlus, one of my favorite vidoe game companys of all time! ! !

  • The Shin Megami Tensei series is hands down my favorite, followed closely by Metal Gear. I’ve spent more hours on these games than any other series. I bought the PS2 backwards compatible PS3 because of these games. I have spent the past few years collecting each game. My SMT library consists of: Nocturne, both Devil Summoner Raidou games, both Digital Devil Sagas, P2, P3, P4, Devil Survivor, and the incredible Strange Journey. I’ve also played a dozen or so hours of the MMO. Can’t get enough of SMT. Keep it coming. PS3 game would be fantastic. Another request would be to get Suzuhito Yasuda back on board for the art of a new game. His character designs for Devil Survivor were my favorite.

  • I want to lock myself away with my head phones plugged into my PSP and spend time with Aigis again. It sounds kinda wired but I like portable systems way more cuz I can isolate myself from the world better with a pair of headphones.

  • The things I’m looking forward to the most in this amazing game is the difference in social links brought on by playing as the new protagonist.

I’ve always been a HUGE fan of Meguro-san and have never heard anything remotely close to his music. I only hope that everyone else will find the new tracks in this game as lovely as his others.

In all honesty, I accidentally came across this page while doing my usual information gathering for the game, [seeing as how it’s almost here, I figured there wasn’t much that could surprise me until I played it..] but the contest itself makes me happy. I hope whoever wins one of these soundtrack treasure it and its contents for the rest of their lives <3

  • I love the Persona series and the portability of one of the greater extensive RPGs is what I’ll love more about this game. I love the music, the extensive character backgrounds, the humorous situations, the culture of the nicely developed areas, the battle systems, artwork, character voices, and what more can be said because there is too big of a list? This game’s quality speaks for itself within moments of starting out. As with the differences of Persona 3/FES and Persona 4, I would love to find out the changes that have been made in this rendition of the game. Thanks and Congratulations to the people who make games like these possible.

  • I must say I’m most looking forward to the case P3P comes in. I’ve been setting up large pyramids specific to each system, made of the cases their games come inside. P3P will be paired with Persona to complete my PSP pyramid both physically and thematically

  • The thing that gets me Most excited about Persona 3 portable’s release, is that I can one of the best rpgs of all time around with me every where I go and share it with all of my freinds.(Which in turn possibly making them buy it.

  • I love everything about Persona 3, but I never really had the time to sit down and play it as often as I want to, especially since I left the PS2 at home when I went to college. The thing I’m definitely looking forward to the most is being able to pull out my PSP before class, pause it for an hour or so, and be able to pick up where I left off without a hitch. The portability will also help me introduce Persona to my friends who might not be interested in sitting in front of a television and watching me play.

  • I’m looking forward to Persona 3 port because I’ve played the first persona on my psp and liked it alot. Plus the hat looks nice and if I can get the autograph version of the game and all then it’s all good.

  • Having had the Persona 3 and 4 soundtracks on constant rotation for the past year, what I’m looking forward to the most about P3P is definitely the new music. Awesome tracks that might just stick to your memory for years.

…Though getting the chance to clear a bit of Tartarus during breaks isn’t far behind.

  • Pre-ordered day one & asked you if there’d be a OST to come with. Now I see why you lol’d at me :P and this would by far be a greater gift! Persona Portable, Persona 3 FES, and Persona 4 I have all personally loved the game, style, experience, and the music. Shoji Meguro is one of my top Japanese composers, along with Nobou Uematsu (Final Fantasy) and Daisuke Ishiwatari (Blazblue). Since there’s only 10 if we don’t win can we atleast still buy the OST off P3P’s website or some other web page?

*side note Takami Asano did a great job composing SMT: Devil Survivor currently playing that on my DS.

  • I am looking forward to see all my favorite characters again with the male main character as well as the new point of view with the female character. Its always fun to see the stories of these characters again and again.

  • Never had a chance to play Persona 3 on the PS2 so I’m most excited about actually playing the game especially after playing Persona 4. Can’t wait
