Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • Looking forward to playing it with the Persona 4 Battle System they implemented.

  • I personally just can’t wait to add it to my constantly growing smt collection which includes, as far as persona is concernerd, Persona 1 and 2 on playstation, and 3 and 4 for ps2. Most of all I would just love to replay one of my favorite games of all time!!!

  • Well I haven’t pre-ordered so it’s not the hat. :P I’m looking forward to the streamlined interface and the new music for the female stories.

  • Bringing Persona 3 portable here in NA for the psp was a great thing Atlus and Sony did. Not only will it give those people who miss this game the second time around (fes), now they can play it on the go, whenever and wherever plus with a sweet hat to boot. Thanks guys and great job.

And to top it off, the game is released on July 6. What does that mean to me? Bday is July 7 baby~ woot.

  • patchworkdreams

Nice hat… plus a solid game from the last few times I enjoyed it. New perspective, simple menu, and making Shinjiro blush. So many fond memories and a new chance to nuke enemies with Jack Frost. It’s the best game for now that doesn’t require import.

  • I already have two copies of P3. Now, I’m going to sharing P3P with my boyfriend. I’m totally stealing the Junpei hat from him.

That’s how GOOD this game is. It’s so good that we will cough up money to buy a THIRD copy just to see how much has changed and the new things released.

I’m definitely excited about getting to date Akihito, also. Dude is pretty badass; and adorable when he’s being modest.

Curious to see how “Operation Babe Hunt” will work out for the female protagonist.

  • Hanamura_Yosuke

I’m excited not only for the pre-order hat, but for the game itself! I’ve played it through on PS2, and the entire time I was playing it I wished I could have it with me when I’m on car trips and the like… and now I’m able to. Add to that the fact that it literally did change my life/way of thinking, and I’m incredibly excited for this, even if I’ve not beaten FES yet.

I seriously listen to the music from the game every day. So I hope I win this…!!

  • Well, I’m excited about the game because I loved the original and now I’m on a quest to own them all, despite my lack of a PSP. Also, I absolutely love the music in all of the games.

  • If I may ask, why aren’t you including the Japanese voice acting option for the game? To my knowledge, the Japanese version only used a one-layered UMD, so US version could easily fit on a dual-layered UMD. It’s really disillusioning considering the price of the game, which is the highest grade for a PSP title. Disgaea PSP versions had the options and their launch price was considerably lower than P3P. I believe that’s the least you could do for the fans who preferred to enjoy the original voice actors’ performances. It’s such a big turnoff that I’m seriously reconsidering buying P3P, I had expected the option would be in.

  • I’m most excited at the opportunity to save shinjiro, since he was one of my favorite characters in both the original and FES!

  • With this amazing game, I can play it whenever I’m down after getting rejected on operation babe hunt!

Joking aside, Persona 3 was the most memorable RPG I have played last gen. It’s better than most of the games this generation have to offer. Of course, being limited 1,250 characters to express my gratitude to the makers of Persona 3 will be pretty hard. First off, the cast of characters are simply amazing. In most rpgs, I would only have one character I’ll tend to like; the rest would simply annoy me. In Persona 3, the diverse crowd was filled with likeable characters. All the characters I interacted and befriended in the game were easily relatable to people I know in real life.

Also, what other game can I get catchy jazz, rap, pop, and instrumental music? Shouji Meguro did a fantastic job incorporating all these genres into one game.

The most exciting part of Persona 3 Portable is divining in for another semester of Gekkoukan High School, but on the go this time.  Even if I don’t win this Holy Grail, I know that this game will continue to burn in my heart, leaving a scar of wonderful memories to remain until I become old and fragile.

  • hazeofmelancholy

I can’t hardly wait to walk the halls of Gekkoukan High once more, this time as the female protagonist as a student and enter the Velvet Room with the male ‘assistant!’

  • I’m excited to play the best RPG I have found in 20 years of gaming, again.

  • Why am I excited for the p3p release? Simple enough. It’s a awesome game with a sweet (as in kick a**) soundtrack. I get to play as the female protagonist which includes new dialoge and love intrests (I love akihiko and Shinji <3). Plus, you get to take it out on the road. I get to feel like the coolest person on the planet while I play the game in my college classes. Haha.

  • Besides the beautiful, highly addictive soundtrack, intriguing plot, and fun battle system I would have to say the main character development is what I loved and will always be looking forward for the new PSP version.

I love having the control to mold the main character’s personality to that of my choosing. Very tired of games coming out with “cookie cutter” main characters that you could predict their actions from miles away. Now with the new additions of jobs and being able to control the life of a female character I don’t see myself just playing as a typical main character but actually having a piece of myself within them.

  • European release please!

  • The ability to play as the female protagonist is the biggest plus for me. Being able to play both scenarios increases replayability and that is sweet!

  • I loved Persona 3 to death mostly because of its storyline and its themes. Before this, I never played a game that involves going to school and fighting shadows at night, which is awesome.
I’m looking forward to the female protagonist’s storyline to see how much being a girl will affect the story.

Also the preorder bonus for Stupei’s hat. :)

  • Any news of a European release?

  • Dating-sim! More games should have this feature! I’m a lonely person!

  • Persona 3 on the psp what more could i asked for!!!!!(oh and the sweet junpei hat)…..and the signed copy of the soundtrack would be cool but that’s it i promise.

  • I’m very excited for a Shin Megami Tensei game on my PSP, because the gamepolay lends itself so well for a portable platform, whether if you’re on a bus or in the comfort of your home. A laid back SRPG/dating sim is the perfect addition to the PSP library, and I hope that I can get as many hours of fun from it as I did with P4 on my good old PS2.

And playing with headphones is a must to appreciate the eclectic sounds of a Persona game, even if people around don’t appreciate it as much as you do. Those ignorant fools! :-D

  • Can’t wait to get my hands on this game. The new battle controls will make it even better than P3FES.

  • What I’m looking forward to most is being able to play as a girl.

  • Personally I’ve always liked the Fusion system, the ability to make a ‘minion’ to help power up my characters has always been rather fun for me ^_^

  • Not only cause It’ll be the best turn RPG for PSP, but all Carl Jung’s psycology that I love is there in the best way it could be, so a must have with no doubt.

  • I own EVERY SMT game and this excites me most of all! being able to play my favorite Dark RPG at home, at the long boring doctors visit and even in the dentists office!
this is a godsend to me and since I own THREE versions of Persona 3 now I’d cut off my left arm for a soundtrack cd!
the thing I look most forward to on p3p is the alternate storyline as a female rather then being stuck as a male regardless if you’re actually male or not. it should be very interesting to see how it plays out on the female character.
my favorite game made portable! Rock on Atlus!
Owner of Persona 3 SE, persona 3 FES and now P3P
    SMT Nocturne
SMT digital devil saga 1 and 2
SMT devil summoner 1 and 2
Persona 4 (you didn’t think I’d pass on this did you?)
ahh life is good. thank you atlus! and (in advance)
everyone making the game so popular!
    best regards,
    SSlarg
PS: looking forward to my junpei hat!

  • The hat alone is a terrific reason to pre-order the game, but to those that have been able to enjoy this thrilling game before this portable iteration; well how about the completely new and varied perspective with a female protagonist? For me, a seller (excluding the incredible scope of game play it already possessed).

  • Being able to control party members. Nothing more annoying than when you lose a battle because they do random things.

  • It’s hard to pinpoint a single reason why I’m so looking forward to this game. I played through Persona 3 for the first time just a couple of years ago and it was, without a doubt, the most compelling gameplay experience I have ever had. I think what struck me most is the story and the atmosphere–the way in which the story was told makes you really feel like part of the events, as though the actions performed by the main character and his relationships with the other characters in the game are something you are actually a part of. Persona 3 is a shining example of video games as art, and it does this without sacrificing fun gameplay and long term replayability. P3P is already on pre-order for me and I plan not to put it down until I have beaten the game twice on both the original male campaign and the new female campaign. There is so much to do and to learn from Persona 3 that I have no doubt that this version will have more hours logged into it than any other game that I own.

  • To complete the Persona 3 trinity Wahahaha … plus I recently bought a PSP3000 just for this game.

  • ITS ALMOST HERE!!! Just 1 more day. Gah! I can’t any longer. If only i could leap through time. it be in my hands right now. The countdown now is 001:08:38:09:???(the last #’s are to fast!) I can’t wait to try out both journeys at the same time. Thats right I’m getting two! one for my PSP and for my PSPgo.

Its going to be great. P3P is a combination of P3FES and P4 combined! We get to get jobs, which means, we just might get extra social links! I’m still trying to figure out who i want in the Velvet Room, either Theo or our lovely Elizabeth

The desert of doors is totally redesigned to its full potential.
thou i don’t think Metis is in it. (>o<) Why!!! Oh well, At least we got a new female MC. By the way, if Arisato Minato is the male characters name. Then who's kind in of to tell me the girls name? is Arisato simply changed to Arisata? Just a thought.

Oh yeah! Question here. how can i get my hands on that new soundtrack of P3P thats singed by Meguro san. Let me rephrase that. How can I be one of the ten winners. Do i write down a secret phrase that says I'm one of the ten? Just a thought.

    Countdown is now 001:07:57:25:???

Thanx for the space. (I'm one of the ten)

  • O M GOSH i cant belornkjbvanw vjn fbjh fmgjbreahjgb lkjhbdjhcbhj jkanc ,ma <MNb cksd wmdn cmwdbcjlwhb liwekwj i iew iu oi k i iiu kq qc iuck q ci iwucw k

  • Love the setting, atmosphere and artwork. I’ve never played Persona before but I’m looking forward to it!

  • I’m excited to be able to play as the female main character. I’m also excited to see the new social links and hear the new soundtrack.

  • In my own personal opinion, I believe that the new P3P systems are a nice add-on, The new ability to control your own characters, the social link abilities like in P4 such as your sub-characters taking lethal blows for you.
I also cannot await the chance to play the new Female protagonist and try the new tweaked storyline.
The hat is a plus, but I got mine already, now all I need is the game.
The new world map movement system is also a very enticing new improvement.
Along with the new music from the great composer himself, Shoji Meguro.
I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS GAME! I will more than likely add up 99 hours within the first week.

  • I have been so excited anout this game. Persona 3 was the game that intoduced me to the Shin megami tensei games. It is by far my favorite game i have ever played, and the fact that it’s coming out for a portable system means I can bring it with me anywhere! The hat just made me want to pre-order it even more than I had previously wanted. But I can’t wait for the game to come out just because i would love to play this from the female point of view and replay it with Minato!

  • I’m definitely excited to see how the female protagonist storyline plays out.

  • I’am really excited to play as a female and get a whole different perspective on the characters of Persona 3. I think the best part of the persona series is the interactions between the characters and the way that the world is impacted by the things you do and say.

  • I’ve been eagerly waiting for Persona 3 Portable ever since it came out in Japan. In fact, I *SQUEED* when the US release date was confirmed (pretty loudly, too). There’s a lot of things in it that I’m excited about!

The music is obviously one of them. That song sampled in the post, the battle theme for the female route, has managed to crawl its way into my brain and doesn’t seem to be coming out any time soon. I also really like the new Tartarus boss battle theme; it sounds a lot more intense than the original, as catchy as it is. The other tracks are grade A stuff as well, of course.

I can’t wait for the tweaks to the battle system either. I thought that Persona 4 improved it immensely (I can control my teammates now, yay!), so I’m glad those changes carried over.

But what am I anticipating the most in P3P? … Two of the new social links. I’m a fangirl to the core, what can I say? orz

Oh, and the hat is a great bonus. I’ll wear mine with pride!

  • What an amazing thing Atlus has been doing. We not only get the Disgaea series on the psp but now they are releasing Persona 3 for it. Which has to be the all time best Megaten game. I used to think it was Nocturne.

I am most excited about the fact that now I can waste more of my life interacting with video game personality instead of the real world (loser:)all on my psp. Glad I didn’t give up on it. I am going to be playing persona 3 for a while now. I love it all.

Really I am excited though. Thanks Atlus and Playstation.

  • Im really Excited that there gonna be two playable characters giving the game. and the remixed songs with it

  • What am I looking forward to? Could it be Persona 3, one of the greatest games ever to be created, is becoming portable? Is it the sweet pre-order hat? Or is it giving my friend that is PS2less the ability to experience this amazing piece of work? No no, it has to be the ability to play as a girl. New dialog, social links, and more tracks added to the already AMAZING soundtrack? GIMME GIMME GIMME!

  • Also, Atlus probably has the best marketing team around. I look forward to the advertisements and special promotions almost as much as the games. Almost.

  • The_Mattmagician

I very much hope that I’m not too late. A friend turned me on to Persona, and this’ll be my first in the series. Should be awesome, no?

  • I am absolutely excited to play the game again (twice in fact- have to play both main characters) and be able to take it on the road with me. The darker and more intense battles of the game mixing in with the calm and relaxing daytime sim part is a perfect combination (except for the quizzes that is D=). I finally bought a PSP just so I can play this game right away. Combine that with the excellent music, and the way the characters actually make you care about them makes for one of the most perfect games out there.

  • Upon first play of P3 on PS2, I was blown away by this game I’d never heard of. The music, the look, the storyline – all brilliant. I’m definitely looking forward to revisiting that love-at-first-sight feeling through the new female protagonist. Also, the character costumes have always been fantastic; excited to see what’s new this time around!

  • Although I loved the Persona 3 game on PS2.. I don’t remember the plot and I’ve been meaning to replay it for a while already. :D So getting the game again on the PSP would be awesome since I love my PSP!!

  • I can’t wait to take this abroad with me! I’m headed to japan to study for a year and I’m planning on bring my psp and this with it… I just hoped I don’t get nailed at airport for it! ha ha! But yeah, definitely wanna check out the female arc, should be interesting.

  • Even though I put over 100 hours into FES, I’m going to put in another very long playthrough since I love this game. The biggest reason why I want this game (besides it being Persona 3) is playing on-the-go. When playing FES, I felt that the game would be perfect on a handheld so I am very excited for this game.

    Also, the music is awesome!
