Hulu Plus Streams Its Way to the PS3

Continuing our goal to provide the most content-rich entertainment platform in the living room to the PlayStation community, I’m excited to announce that beginning today, the preview of Hulu Plus is available on the PlayStation 3 in the U.S., the first and only console with dedicated gaming functionality that will offer Hulu Plus this year.

If you don’t know, Hulu Plus is Hulu’s new subscription service offering full current season runs of hit TV programs from ABC, FOX and NBC, adding even more premium video content to the more than 23,000 movies and TV episodes already available on the PlayStation Store.

So how do you get Hulu Plus? Well, starting today, a select group of PlayStation Plus subscribers can gain access to a preview version of Hulu Plus. All PlayStation Plus subscribers may download the free Hulu Plus application from the PlayStation Store and, within it, request an invitation to the exclusive preview. If you are accepted, you can access Hulu Plus for an additional $9.99 per month (the fee that Hulu is charging for all Hulu Plus subscribers) and start enjoying its library of television shows and movies from nearly 150 leading content companies streamed on demand in HD.

As Hulu Plus becomes generally available in the coming months, all PlayStation 3 users in the United States will be able to download and subscribe to the full Hulu Plus service and it will also be available on wide range of Sony Electronics Internet-connected entertainment devices, including select BRAVIA TVs and Blu-ray Disc players.

notice how they dont mention that even with Hulu Plus, you are still going to be watching ads, even with a paid Hulu membership when it starts.

Even if you get access to Hulu Plus, you still have to pay 9.99 dollars? Not even a free trial? No thanks. I have a nice computer I can watch shows on, and besides, loving Netflix on the PS3 :)

I’m not understanding why Hulu decided to do this in the summer. This would have been close to brilliant in the fall with all the new shows. There is barely anything justifying the $10 per month right now.

They should give the 1st month free as a taste.

And for those of you saying it’s only for PS+ It’s NOT. We’re just getting early access to it. You non PS+ subscribers will get access to it in the coming months.

Is this available in Canada? Or do we have to wait 2 years like with the video store?

P.S. Let’s get some more full games like Infamous on the PSN. There’s people out there like me that like to spend their sizable disposable income on digital crap. It’s a gold mine waiting to happen.

Sort of like the PSN video store WOULD have been, had Sony released it sooner. As it is, I’ve discovered the wonder of torrents to fulfill all my movie/ tv show needs. You snooze, you lose!

Wow. Nice, Sony. So I need to pay for PS+ for a free application and another $9.99 a month to use it? Hulu is aware that it’ll hardly any money when you’re letting only PS+ members into the app, right? If it’s gonna cost extra anyway, why not throw us a bone and give it to everyone?

@purplestream just at the start but I also think it’s a pretty dumb thing, but expect this to become the norm. Alot of stuff will debut of PS+ and might be available to regular users.

I just wonder how long it’s going to take to trickle down to us common folks?

Okay this is horrible & i’m a PSN Plus member..
First of all its SELECT PS Plus members (WTF, i thought the point of having PSN + was to be in a select group and recieve select things like this. )

Next, why do i have to $50 to Pay another $120 per year for HULU. It seems to me i’m already paying sony this $50… they should at least take care of HULU’s charge for me. or discount it. The hulu service should be availible to EVERYONE (even non PSN Plus) & then give the PSN plus members HULU Plus for free or at a big discount.

This is crap it wont sell well.

If you pay now for PS+ membership, you may be one of the lucky winners that will be given the honor to pay even more on top of you subscription for Hulu+ access, which (wait for it) will enable you to watch the same shows you can watch for free on Hulu’s web site and/or any of said studio’s applicable web sites.

There are a lot of great perks for using PSN — this is definitely not one of them.

You can use a program called PlayOn to stream the free Hulu and other content like PBS, Comedy, etc, to your PS3. PlayOn is like a one time charge of $5o or something.

$50 a year for Live, $50 for PS+, $120 for Hulu+, $120 for Netflix. Do these companies think we are made of money. You know what is so great about the PSN ITS FREE! And while Netflix may not be free, considering how good there services are, its a fair value. Hulu… not so much.

Wow all the whining about PS+, it’s $3.33 a month for 15 months, if you join now. Everyone wants Sony to keep giving them improvements for free like Cross Game Chat, Netflix on XMB, Autosync of trohpies, and a blog share of 200,000 ideas, well WHO is going to pay for this? Notice that other company pretty much forces you to pay for Live? Sony has kicked butt giving updates and enhancements to PS3/PSP & PSN all for free for 4.5 years. All you whiners just keep wanting more. Please get a job so you can afford the $3.33 a month and stop crying.

it’s ok but if you have comp you get it for free lol so whats the point ? It’s all in HD which is nice but come on have the ppl on ps3 are either playing a game or watching movies, not using it for a computer to watch half hr shows lol idk maybe some ppl do but there not going to bank roll on this, they prolly will waste more money doing this then they receive. When you’re in the conference room white boarding this stuff out you must assume the PS3 consumer has bottomless pockets! Wrong!

Instead of Hulu Plus please send me some of whatever you’re smoking! Why would someone pay to see reruns of TV shows with commercials attached instead of wait for the release of that show on media? Or surf it from their PC?

Imagine how many PS3 units you’d sell if you starting giving away content like this and could brag it does ‘the internet’ as well as does ‘everything’!

In the other console is going to be for Gold members only so I don’t understand why so much panic. Also I have to say, my Wi-Fi goes perfect and the video that explains “What is Hulu Plus?” isn’t smooth at all (not really good publicity if you ask me). So far, I’m going to pass.
