What PlayStation Move Setup is Right for You?

321 0

Now that E3 2010 is in the books and all of the launch details around PlayStation Move have been announced, I know a lot of you may be wondering exactly what you need to start playing motion-controlled gaming on the PS3. So, here’s a primer that spells out all the great options that will be available and how much it will cost you to get up and running with PlayStation Move.

PlayStation Move bundle set

The PlayStation Move platform consists of the PlayStation Move motion controller, the PlayStation Eye camera and, of course, the PS3 system. We’ll offer various options for you to choose from depending on what hardware you already own and what kind of PlayStation Move experience will satisfy you. Here’s a breakdown of prices depending on your current situation.

What Move Setup is Right for You?

I don’t yet have a PS3

  • Your best option: *PlayStation 3 Sports Champion Move Bundle
  • How much it will cost? $399.99

PS3 Move Bundle

I have a PS3 and nothing else

  • Your best option: **PlayStation Move Bundle
  • How much it will cost? $99.99

Move Bundle

I have a PS3 and PlayStation Eye camera

  • Your best option: Move Motion Controller
  • How much it will cost? $49.99

Move Controller

*The PlayStation 3 Sports Champion Move Bundle comes with: a PS3 system, 1 PlayStation Move motion controller, a PlayStation Eye Camera, the Sports Champions Blu-ray game and a PlayStation Move game demo disc.

** The PlayStation Move Bundle comes with: 1 PlayStation Move motion controller, a PlayStation Eye camera, the Sports Champions Blu-ray disc game and a PlayStation Move demo disc.

For those of you who own a PS3 already, the PlayStation Move Bundle is the complete Move package, offering everything that you, your friends and your family need to enjoy PlayStation Move in both single-player and multiplayer modes. The PlayStation Move platform is designed to be flexible. We’ve done our best to give you plenty of options, both in terms of gameplay and hardware, so you can customize your PlayStation Move experience to fit the way you game.

For the vast majority of PlayStation Move games, you can play with one motion controller when playing solo. There are some titles that give you the option to play single-player with one *or* two motion controllers if you would like, such as Sports Champions. It’s completely up to you. One title launching this fall that is an exception worth noting is The Fight: Lights Out, which requires two motion controllers to deliver the best possible experience, tracking both arms and your head with one-to-one precision.

In many games, when you’re playing against friends or family, you can all share one motion controller – in a game like Start the Party!, for example, players can just pass the motion controller around. You will need more than one motion controller only for simultaneous game play — for example, if you’re going head-to-head with a friend in a Sports Champions gladiator duel, you will each need your own motion controller.

PlayStation Move

The PlayStation Move Navigation Controller is an optional add-on that brings directional buttons, an analog stick, and two face buttons into the PlayStation Move’s control scheme. The sleek Navigation Controller essentially replicates the left side of the DualShock 3 controller for familiar and natural control. At $29.99, we think it’s a wonderful supplement to the PlayStation Move platform, especially for games like Heavy Rain, where you control a character, but it’s not required for any of the PlayStation Move games. The DualShock 3 controller that came with your PS3 will let you do everything the Navigation Controller does in all PlayStation Move titles.

It all goes back to the PlayStation philosophy that every consumer is different, and everybody benefits when you get to make your own choices. An extra motion controller or a navigation controller are additive to the PlayStation Move experience. For some of you, aiming a bow and arrow with two motion controllers in Sports Champions will be the enhanced realism you’re craving; for others, one controller will work just fine.

Bottom line is, we’ve got you all covered. We hope we’ve provided enough great options for all of you out there and can’t wait until you can get your hands on PlayStation Move come September 19th.

  • @sbf717: The HDD will either be 250GB or 500GB, at the moment I will say that it will be 250GB since that would be the best price point since it begins at $349-$399 and that would make the bundle a good value.

  • The problem is people will need the camera, 2 motion controllers, & 1 navigation controller at least. The navigation controller should’ve been bundled with the regular motion controller as you will need 2 motion controllers to play games like The Fight but for others you’ll need 1 motion controller & 1 navigation controller. The prices and bundles are both really screwed up. I’ll be waiting for a price drop and other bundles before I decide to use motion controls.

  • For those who already own the PS3 and the PSEye, we don’t need another camera that’s included in the bundle. I know it’s cheaper to buy the Move controller and the Sports Champion seperately but we all know there are games coming out that requires two Move controllers. Who wants to buy another one???

  • Option 3 is me, but are you guys planning on having say a bundle, 2 motion controllers and sports champions for those with the camera already?

Al De Leon | July 14th, 2010 at 10:02 am

We aren’t planning to offer such a bundle at this point.

You should, I am also looking for this type of bundle.

  • sbf717 stole my question.

  • How about the game and the move controllers bundle for those who have the camera and a ps3 already . How the OG sony owners always get screw ? Am going to get it anyways but come on now .

    OG sony

  • What happened to the package announced when move was first announced? It was supposed to have a move controller, the ps3 eye, and eye pet.

  • Kim

    =================================================
The Navigation controller needs to be bundle one way or the other, for example: Socom 4 should have a “Navigation Controller” bundle version for $10-$15 dollars more. it will help sell the game and sell more Move (camara and move controller).

these bundle can be also included in Killzone 3, Sorcery, etc

  • what would be on the demo disc with the sports champions bundle what game ?

  • I bought Eye of Judgment, which was supposed to be supported but never was, so essentially I blew $70 on a turd. Now since I have a Playstation Eye and will go with Option 3 I’m screwed out of the sports game? I may just pass on this all together.

  • So I buy almost every major thing that comes out for the PS3 whether hardware, disc games or games on PSN. I feel like I have been alienated by Sony. I already have the PS Eye. I know I’m going to buy a move, but I’m going to pay $50 for the PS Move, $40 for the game, save $10, lose a move demo disc, and a shiny new eye. I don’t get it. Where’s the bundle taylored to gamers like me.

Also why would any one player need to spend $100 on two moves to get the full experience. It’s a dang ps eye why can’t one hand have a move and the other hand be tracked by the camera. How about including an accelerometer in the nav controller so it can be used like a wii nunchuck. Better yet, combine the accelerometers and led ball with the nav controller. I just don’t get it.

Same thing with PSN+, I already bought the majority of those games, even the current psn+ free plays I already bought a while back. Sony I am sure I’m not the only one in this situation. We are your most loyal customers; show us you care. Gear some bundles and deals towards our market, not just newcomers to the PS3!

  • i cant wait to get this!!!

  • I currently own the PS Eye and I really think there is enough people out there in the same boat as me to warrant sony to offer a PS Move bundle without the eye but with the controller.

    poll.pollcode.com/Ir1

I just made this for fun so we can get an idea of how many thousands of users world wide are in this situation.

  • will not be getting this until I can get a bundle with 2 move controllers, 1 navigation controller and 1 demo disc for $99 anything else isn’t worth it. yes I can use the duelshock 3 controller if I want to, but I don’t want too…it feels awkward and doesn’t seem very practical. Also yes I need two move controllers from the start because the whole point of getting move is for precision, also there WILL be games that have both players on screen at the same time, so why not be ready for that? You say your trying to please everyone with these bundles but from every comment I’ve read throughout various websites people like me who already own a ps3 and playstation eye camera NEED the above bundle I described…especially if move games are gonna be $40 a pop. If you guys want move to be a huge sucess to the hardcore audience then you will need to figure this bundle thing out, either in house or through some retailers like bestbuy, or costco.

  • I only have a Playstation 3 at the moment so option # 2 is the one for me, but like everyone else in the comments I wish that option 2 also included a navigation controller. It would have been nice to at least have one of everything to start off with.

I can also understand that at this time almost all the games that have Playstation Move support don’t really need the navigation controller at this time & can use the Dualshock 3 instead, but in the very near future perhaps you could get a Playstation Move & Navigation Controller bundle going for approximately $64.99. I think that would make a lot of people happy from the sound of what people are asking for.

  • My one issue with this right now is that I own a PS3 and PS Eye, but I don’t really want to buy a Move if I have nothing to play with it. (i.e. if it doesn’t come with the free game)

This just makes me that little bit less interested. Obviously after-market, you can’t give away a copy with every controller–that would be like giving away Wii Sports with every Wiimote.

But you should really just make this game a FREE downloadable game via PSN, and ONLY allow it to be used with the Move. It serves the same purpose and would cut disc & packaging costs, etc. But you’re not giving away a free game to anyone who doesn’t have a Move, that way. Just a thought, because that would motivate me a little bit more, personally.

  • @223 CondorMcG, you’re an ignorant know nothing. First of all, the only left handed comment I’ve seen on here other than on page 2(because I haven’t read them) is mine so that’s just about 200 against 1. Second, I’m guessing you don’t understand that the controller is in the opposite hand so whether or not it’s “symmetrical” I still wouldn’t be able to block with my right and attack with my left unless my arms are crossed. Do you understand now??? It won’t work well for lefties unless the games are designed for lefty switch.

  • Sony has made it very clear that the Playstation Move is not for those of us who bought a PS3 early and bought a Playstation Eye early. The fact that they haven’t made a bundle for us means that I won’t be buying it.

No, I’m not complaining about the navigation controller like everybody else, I would be perfectly content with using a dualshock. I’m complaining that something I wasn’t terribly excited about to begin with is going to cost a minimum of $90 to get the most basic experience (basic Move controller + stupid sports game). Plus, that comment earlier with the IGN article stating that Sports Champions with two Move controllers is a far better experience than with one wasn’t referring to Move + NAV, but referring to Move + Move, and that’s a $140 entry point. No thanks.

  • Sorry, none of those bundles is right for me.

Get a bundle together for people who already have the eye.

You don’t have a PS3?…Here, buy this complete bundle.

You only have a PS3?…Here, buy this complete bundle.

You already have the eye?…Here, buy everything seperately.

Thanks for the options Sony!! /s

  • About Time!!

  • SOLD!!!!! here sony, take all my moneys… :P

    definitely getting the move bundle!!!

can’t wait for The Fight game…

  • Will there be move bundles coming out with the eye. for example the Eye, Move controller and The Fight.
and will they be availible on the Move Realease date?

  • These bundle options are not enough.
Even option 2 doesn’t do any discounts.

Need a bundle with 2 Motion controllers, 1 Navigator and should include one free game.
    (49.99 + 49.99 + 29.99) + tax + free game = one satisfied customer

  • I have to say some of you are whiners. I have the PSeye like most of you bought it cause of eye of judgement. But I decided it was well worth buying Bundle number 2 and getting rid of the old PSeye. Think about the move 50.00 and then the game 40.00 90.00 and for 10.00 more a new camera. Its been pointed out before I know. But I also ordered another move and a navigator controller. And the sad thing is I didnt mind shelling out cause I knew it was coming so I saved a little every month. As for game come on SOCOM 4 with the move controller how awesome is that. RE5 gold edition (had a feeling why I didnt pick it up right away). Anyway theres a lot of reason to buy it, but you have to find the reason you would want it. And dont mock those who are getting it what is the third grade?

  • I didn’t notice anything on the move packaging on what model PS3 will be included in the $399 package. Is it a 120GB or 250GB model?

  • “Kim Nguyen | July 14th, 2010 at 10:04 am
You do not need 2 motion controllers to play any of the games in Sports Champion. If you’re playing solo, the majority of games can be played with 1 motion controller.”

Playing solo? Doesn’t miss the point of motion gaming? Especially with a game like Sports Champion? Don’t you think people would want to be playing with other people to encourage that party, competitive atmosphere? Seriously you should have a “Party Two-Pack” that has two controllers at a reduced price.

  • OK this is what’s going to happen during Christmas time:

My son little Johnny wants Playstation Move for Christmas. I’ll buy the second bundle because it looks like the best value. Christmas day comes. Little Johnny was very excited after seeing his present and realizes the bundle does not come with the navigation controller which makes Johnny very sad since he cannot get the full game experience. Little Johnny’s mom now is obligated to go out and buy the navigation controller.

This is the plan right Sony? Milk it for all it is worth.

  • question, every video I’ve seen of people playing the archery game, required them to have 2 move controllers. Is that absoutely necessary? and if so, why doesn’t the bundle have 2 if I’m not going to be able to play parts of the game untill I buy a second controller?

  • As viguru said. You can’t play the archery game with one PS Move controller. So your statement on that The Fight:Lights Out is the only game right now that requires to move controllers is WRONG!

This message is towards this reply:
    “Kim Nguyen | July 14th, 2010 at 10:46 am
Currently, the only game that requires 2 motion controllers is The Fight: Lights Out.”

  • two* move controllers

  • If you can’t play a whole game with one PS Move then it shouldn’t be considered as a game that doesn’t require 2 motion controllers since it does require you to have two to play some part of the game.

  • I own two PS3 systems and two PS Eye cameras, so add me to the list of other owners who were looking forward to a Move, Nav controller and game bundle. I’m disappointed, but not angry that such a bundle was not produced. My disappointment means I will not invest in the MOVE brand of products until Sony presents a better offer for my needs.

  • I do wonder what the HDD storage size will be with the new MOVE bundle of PS3 Slim?

Don’t mind it as 250GB, but if is a 500GB that is the way to go! Good thing my PS3 60GB unit died on July 7th, 2010 and just in time with this release and am looking forward to it with the upgrade!

Please confirm with the HDD size then am good to go! Thank you.

  • what about a bundle with Start the Party? I already have a wii.. and i found really similar Sports Champions to a sport resort.. so I didn’t find attractive that bundle.. but with start the party it would be much better an option, fresh and new… not just something more precise and hd…

  • QUESTION!
Will PlayStation Move Games like ‘Sports Champions’ or ‘Start the Party’ have Add-Ons or DLCs? Because that would really encourage people to buy it! Imagine extending your library of games with ‘PS Move DLCs’after you’ve finished the game and want to add more games to your collection!

That honestly would be REALLY COOL! XD

Any one with me on this?

  • I’m with everyone one else. There should either be a bundle with two controllers and the game OR one controller and a subcontroller and the game. To me the game should come with any of the conrtroller packages. In our house we have 4 kids so that equates to $300 just to by the controllers.

Please offer some sort of discount for buying multiple controllers…thx

  • I want to agree with a lot of the posters here.
There should be a bundle suited to those with a ps3 and a camera already. No family packs with multiple motion controllers? No bundle with the navigation controller, and no bundle with the motion controller and the game for those who already have the ps eye?

I don’t think any of those bundles were built for your existing user base. I hope to eventually get this but to have to spend a few hundred bucks to get going with enough equipment for some local play is going to be a bit hard to justify considering the state of our economy.

2 motion controllers + 2 nav controllers + sports game for $150 and ill be a day one buyer. Otherwise Ill be piecing it together over time and not having the optimal experience im sure you want us all to have. Just for good measure have that same bundle with the camera for those who dont already have one for a few $$$ more and you got another great Xmas present for the family.

In short these bundles are weak!

  • Will we see another outing with Kevin Butler on Tv? :)

  • Hey Kim, thanks for not answering my question… anywho I found the answer on my own after a while of searching and it seems some of them do consider lefties including sports champs so hurray!

  • FOR ALL THOSE EYE OWNERS who are not so happy that sony isn’t creating a bundle for all of you is most likey due to the fact that it would cost more for packaging and they don’t want to risk profit loss by having so many packages available and only have 1 chosen by everyone. Also, I’m almost sure that retailers, such as best buy, will offer their own bundles so they can make a good profit from the fact that sony hasn’t made that bundle for eye owners. Oh and I don’t even think they should be counting “#3” as a bundle at all haha

  • since i saw it last year at e3 the move intrigued me and it still does.one game i really like for it is SORCERY,can you say when that’s coming out?

  • Solid-Snake-Eyes

I have a Move and Nav controller pre-ordered for $64. Someone made a point and I think it’s a good one that the box shows the PS3 on a vertical stand, but the stand isn’t included in the box. Not cool, you need to revise that box art.

  • Solid-Snake-Eyes

Oh yeah and I agree that there should be a bundle that consists of the game, one move, and one nav.

  • Ok Will the move work with the upcomming Lucas Arts Force unleashed 2? if not you should reprogram the game for it to work :D I see alot of broken stuff in my house lol

  • What about an uber bundle with 2 move controllers a sub controller and camera and sports champions. its a lot of stuff to buy i i think by the time i get to the shops i’ll forget what i need and forget the camera or something then they will be sold out and i won’t be able to play.

the fight is a must purchasen (2 moves) imo and i need the sub controller for killzone.

  • Nice. I will probably get the second bundle, plus another Move and two support controller (whatever what is called). I just hope its worth buying.

And a question: is Sports Champion able to be played by two or more players?

  • Don’t you guys think there should be some motion control in the navigation controller? I think you guys are missing a big opportunity here. The Wii does it.

I want to play hardcore games(move the character) and have motion control in two controllers(sword and shield, two guns, two lightsabers, two magic wands, etc).

    Any response?

  • Hey I already preorder my Move on amazon. I am actually very interested in the game title the Fight Lights Out and would like to see how this game develops as I do full contact martial arts; as there is the possiblity for using it to up my cardio a bit and maintain a sustained level of fighting for a longer period. If you have any you have any of the latest info from the development team please post.

    Cheers

  • wow im getting the $100 one when i can because if you think about it the camera is like $50 and the move is like $50 and the game is like $50 so its kinda worth it for $100, but whats with the no 2 controller thing with sony its kind of annoying, hmm anyway theres a free box i think im going to destroy the BOX, hey ill think ill put an x on it too…

  • how come the australian bundle on the eb games website doesn’t have sports champions included?

my game that i will be buying are (I know they wont be as good as game that come out after a year or so)
    sport champions
    the fight
    mlb the show
    killzone 3
and hopefully battlefield 3 has motion control. (that game has been in the works for ages it seems)
