Epic Action of ‘Young Thor’ Thundering to PSP minis; New Official Trailer is Here!

Martin Brouard's Avatar Posted by Executive Producer, Frima Studio

Mini-sized Thor? Yes. Mini-sized game? No chance in “Hel.”

Today we’re showing off the final trailer for Young Thor, which will be launching next week for minis on PSP and PS3. Our team has had a ton of fun creating titles for minis like Zombie Tycoon and the recent Widgets Odyssey, but Young Thor represents a completely new milestone in our efforts. Built entirely for minis from the ground up to look great when played on either system, we wanted to deliver a truly epic action title that pushes the boundaries for what a minis title can become, and it’s anything but tiny. Check out the official launch trailer below!

A fresh take on iconic Norse Mythology, the game has been inspired by some of the best action-platformers and beat-em up brawlers around. You’ll need to pummel your way through Midgard, the world of men, and Asgard, the world of the gods, with over a dozen different attacks and special powers if you should ever hope to save the world tree Yggdrasil. While I don’t want to spoil anything, we also have a mountain of 50 different in-game achievables to unlock throughout Thor’s epic journey. On top of that, there is an addictive leveling and experience system that will let you strengthen your stats to level 99, and there are plenty of divine items that will help you bring the hammer down on Hel, daughter of Loki!

We’ve had all hands-on deck for Young Thor since the beginning, and we’re happy to also share a look at some of the artwork that went into the game’s visual style. You can even get a look at some of the comics we’ve made, which also showcase the more light-hearted humor from our take on the mythology.

The release of Young Thor has been a long time coming, and we’re happy that this PSP Mini title will also be playable on the PS3 when it hits the PlayStation Store on July 20th for just $4.99. In truth, we feel there is more to this minis title than anything else before this, and we could go on for ages if Odin would let us. Instead, I’ll be fielding some questions from you guys in the thread below, and I’m happy to answer as much as I can about the game!

Thor is the Norse God of Thunder.
Our version is very different from Marvel’s.

And while the game runs through emulationand looks really good on a PS3, it is a Minis and therefore is not technically in HD. Minis need to be under 100Mo remember.

Nice price. It reminds me of God of War meets Mini Ninjas. I loved both so I will buy.

Any word on whether or not this will be a PlayStation Plus mini? I would hate to buy it and then see it available to me via my Plus subscription in the coming months.

emiru69 said:

I usually don’t care about minis but I have to say I will buy this one. I like the design and the gameplay looks fun. Like with the PSOne classics I love to play with my psp and move my game to the ps3.

Craazy said:

Can you download the Minis through the PS3 and send them to the PSP? Or do you have to download them directly through the PSP?

polo155 said:

July 15th, 9:54 am

@21 Either way!

emiru69 said:

@21, Craazy:
yes you can, just go to the minis section on the store with you ps3 and after the download is done connect your psp to your ps3 with a usb cable, go to that game and push triangle you will see an option that says copy. I hope that helps

Very cool! Sadly, I’ll be at Comic Con all week next week so I won’t get to buy it until I’m back. If you guys are there and I can get away from my booth I’ll drop in and play it at yours! Hey, can I try my hand at making a model of your Thor? You posted a turn around and I think it’d be a neat personal challenge.

    We will not be present at Comic Con. (Although now that you mention it, it would have been a great idea!)
    You are more than welcome to try your hand at making a model.
    Hey! Fan art a week before the game releases ! I’ll take that any day.

    No trophies indeed. They are not allowed for Minis. I sure wish they were though :-) There’s a lot of ingame achievements though.

    As for the control layout, how else would I have hinted at Thor’s awesome lightning special attack ? :-)

Solid-Snake-Eyes said:

Most minis suck, I hope for all our sakes that this one doesn’t follow that trend.

mcbuttz78 said:

    Mahjong Tales is not a Mini.
    Mahjong Solitaire is probably the Mini you had in mind.
    Minis are not allowed to have trophies.
