Hi everyone, the next PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software update is coming soon. Firmware update 3.41 will add recommendations for games and videos on PlayStation Store. When you’re browsing through the details of a particular title, you’ll see a new “You May Like” section on the right-hand side. This section lists additional items based on the purchases of other PlayStation Network members who have purchased the item you’re currently looking at.
You can then click on this section to zoom in on the list and scroll the recommended titles.
This feature is a great way to discover new games that you may not know about, and it’s another step toward making the shopping experience easier and better for you all — similar to the five-star ratings feature we added in the last firmware update. Please note that while the 3.41 update will be released shortly, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.
In addition to this PS3 update, the next PSP (PlayStation Portable) firmware update (v.6.31) will be coming as well. This is a minor update, and system software stability during use of some PSP format software titles has been improved.

Update: For those users who are replacing the PS3 hard disk drive: We have been aware of the symptoms with the system software update 3.41, released on July 27, and that it will cause the update to stop in some occasions while replacing the PlayStation 3 (PS3) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) if the PS3 system is installed with version 3.41.
To resolve these symptoms, we have released a new version of system software update 3.41 with a very minor change (the version number does not change) on August 2nd. If you are experiencing such symptoms when replacing the HDD of your PS3 system, we kindly ask you to use the latest data and try again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

as of today i’m starting to hate playstation, i had ps1,2,3. i’m starting to wonder why did i buy playstation 3. i should of bought xbox360. What’s with all these pointless update, why not give us the features we want. I don’t want cross game voice chat next year, or give us a cool feature. If you release cross game voice chat next year, you might as well save it for ps4 at this point i just don’t care anymore and don’t care about ps3 anymore, i hope you stay last place because you deserve last place. i like ps3 better when it was realeasing firmware update earlier in the console life cycle. I might be more inclined to rate a game if I could do it from the xmb somehow rather than go to the store to do it. Or am i just missing something.
complete waste of an update. there are so many other things that could have been implemented to enhance or fix our playstation experience and the only thing you guys can come up with is a way to help us spend our money faster? Im usually very optimistic and behind playstation 100% of the time but this is complete [DELETED] You could have atleast upgraded the flash player so we can can watch movies on Veoh or any other site without it being blank. Complete waste.

You guys do a lot of things right, I won’t complain about all the features I enjoy and LOVE my PS3 for, you could leave it just as it is and forget about any further updates and I would still consider it the best console in the market and very much my money’s worth.
I’m nobody to complain about the hard work you guys at Network operations keep up every day; However , WHY Oh WHY do you still choose to burden yourself creating this FALSE ILLUSION of consumer feedback if at then end it’s nothing more than an excuse to make us mad at you for not even trying to live up to it.
I don’t get it. Just leave the PS3 alone, keep it functioning right, do your updates and stuff, whatever. But please don’t create this stuff like the blog share if you’re going to ignore it, it only HARMS YOUR IDENTITY.

*Sigh* First of all, to all the CGC whiners – MS has that on lock at the moment. They have it copyrighted. You will not see CGC until Sony can find a way to implement it without infringing on there rights.
Stop. Whining.
Secondly – you cannot expect every single update to be some huge feature being added – that’s completely unrealistic. Get over it – not every update is going to be huge – this is a minor update, and that’s all it is.
You can’t be surprised that it doesn’t have anything huge in it – they never said it would.
And since when has a .01 update been huge for ANYTHING? The big stuff is usually saved for 1.0 and 0.5 updates – never incremental ones.
You MIGHT see something big at the 3.5 update, but don’t expect it at 3.41. These are usually just minor tweaks to the system, and minor updates to functionality.
They’ve added a useful feature for some people into the system – what’s wrong with that? Sure, maybe not everyone has a use for it, but it’s there if you want to use it.
Oh noes! They made it easier for me to find a game I might like without having to scour the net and browse through the complete back catalog of titles on the store. Boooooo. That’s horrible!
Really people? Being upset about removing a feature is one thing, but being angry that they didn’t add what you wanted yet, in a completely minor update is completely ridiculous.

And there are certain games that allow you to listen to music while you play. Wipeout HD, Super Stardust, Trinity Universe, Super Street Fighter IV, Warhawk, Resonance of Fate. Just because you haven’t found the feature doesn’t mean that certain games don’t do it. It’s up to the developers, not Sony to put it in their individual games.
Lastly – these things take time – you can’t expect to suggest something and then have it be done withing the next month or so. Things like Cross Game Chat need to be tested before they can be launched. They need to pass certification, etc.
It’s not as simple as

It doesn’t work like that. Same reason games get delayed – features don’t get added. Maybe they can’t get it right. Maybe they have it done and they’re still testing it to make sure it works. Maybe they just can’t find a way that doesn’t infringe on existing patents.
I’d love it if every update was a massive feature, and just happened right after things got suggested. Then again, I’d love it if I could crap money, too – but that’s never going to happen.
I purchase a Playstation@Network Card and its telling me that the found could not be added to your wallet? does this update has any affect?
New and forever requested features such as cross-game chat that would make PS gaming more fun won’t make Sony more collar dollar, easier browsing and store recommendations will. Think of all the people that will no doubt flock to the store after they’ve updated.
Its already out. My system said there was an update at 10:40 PST time.

It’s funny, Sony came out with Blu-ray. Now all these Blu-Ray movies with digital copies and you can’t copy them to your PSP. Yet, you can copy them to your Ipod. Go figure.
I cant believe Sony put in a dedicated update just for this….I really, REALLY hope they are hidden features in this update or I think Sony must be losing it.
Things I Think
* Faster XMB While In Games (when you push PS Button it is so slow if you are in a game)
* Cross Game Chat
* Search function in Download List (because it is hard to re-download old stuff)
* Custom Avatars (or alot more)
* More Music Player Visualizations (there not much)
* Trophy Auto Sync (i hate having to sync them everytime)
* More Reasons To Get PS+ (i have not got it yet because if i stop my subscription i will no longer get to keep most of the stuff)
Question: just got home from work notice the software update, it went thru the first update finised with 100% than went to a second screen showing another update around 70% tv screen went black and PS3 is still on, not a TV issue seems like it just froze, any suggestions?
Completely useless feature… same as my Hulu plus subscription which i am canceling tomorrow. Hulu preview is the most ludicrous software i’ve paid for. If I am going to pay for a service, it shouldn’t shove advertisements down my throat that i can’t skip or mute.

How about a better way to redownload various types of content that are attached to my account? Like folders for game add-ons, themes, game + unlock key, etc.

I got an idea. How about you put the trophies back the way they were so it will sync them across multiple playstations. I would like to see my dragon age platinum on my primary playstation.

I don’t know if this will do anything for me or not. But every other attempt people made at telling me about something I might like when compared to other things I have bought or looked at. They get it wrong.
Meanwhile in the first few comments I read I saw things that are more useful then what was officially added.

My ps3 browser crashed 8 times while trying to watch Socom 4 trailers on youtube. How about a browser update? Here is an interesting concept “browser stability”!! You know the ps3 does “EVERYTHING” (except surf the web without crashing constantly!!!) What about added video format support? After the last crash on youtube my MAG character disappeared. I now have to start all over. I had been through all the factions and had many achievements that all disappeared. Months worth of work is now gone so I had to start all over. When my ps3 dies so does my support of all sony products including the ps3. I give up!!! I’ll spend my money on a new pc and maybe one of the other consoles (not the Wii). Updates from sony which removed paid for options or were completely useless have been consistant. I’m done waiting for this company to listen to US who purchase their products. They obviously don’t care about what are their customers need but how to make themselves more cash.
Recommendations really??? I have nothing against the update but i think it could have been put off or added on to another update, I’m pretty sure i don’t need the psn store to tell me what i like cuz i’m pretty sure i would know what i like. But next time sony plz add cross game chat(and yea i know i said the forbidden words).

I hate this place. it makes you jump thru hoops a million times just to try and log the hell in!!! they know their stupid updates piss everybody off with the amount of stuff WE DONT CARE ABOUT in them. Trophy updates? so the hell what? Facebook synch? big Friggin deal!! we are here just to play games. if we want to use the PS network as a social tool, we would be morons not to just hook up a Twitter account or a Facebook account or AOL. who needs PS Network to interact with our friends? our friends on COD maybe but gimme a break, stop making me update the system so you can install an algorithm that “suggests” games i might not know about. amazon does that, and i find nothing more next-to-useless. We already know about the games!! Gamefly, the Internet, our online friends, and a myriad of Magazines inform us of that all WITHOUT slowing down my sign-on time!! and what the hell is this Cross Game Chat? do i really want to be playing one game and have a conversation with some monkey playing some other game, and i can’t even see what he’s doing?
