Hi everyone, the next PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software update is coming soon. Firmware update 3.41 will add recommendations for games and videos on PlayStation Store. When you’re browsing through the details of a particular title, you’ll see a new “You May Like” section on the right-hand side. This section lists additional items based on the purchases of other PlayStation Network members who have purchased the item you’re currently looking at.
You can then click on this section to zoom in on the list and scroll the recommended titles.
This feature is a great way to discover new games that you may not know about, and it’s another step toward making the shopping experience easier and better for you all — similar to the five-star ratings feature we added in the last firmware update. Please note that while the 3.41 update will be released shortly, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.
In addition to this PS3 update, the next PSP (PlayStation Portable) firmware update (v.6.31) will be coming as well. This is a minor update, and system software stability during use of some PSP format software titles has been improved.

Update: For those users who are replacing the PS3 hard disk drive: We have been aware of the symptoms with the system software update 3.41, released on July 27, and that it will cause the update to stop in some occasions while replacing the PlayStation 3 (PS3) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) if the PS3 system is installed with version 3.41.
To resolve these symptoms, we have released a new version of system software update 3.41 with a very minor change (the version number does not change) on August 2nd. If you are experiencing such symptoms when replacing the HDD of your PS3 system, we kindly ask you to use the latest data and try again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Will you all please shut the hell up about cross game chat already? Please. They’re not adding it and they probably will only add it for the PSN+ people, which leaves out all of the friendless 14 year olds who are always begging like little whiners for it, since we know mommy and daddy still pay for your games.
Another useless update, we have to download, ‘cos Sony employees doesn’t have a life, and wants to keep tossing update at us, just so they think they earn their payroll, and that we actually care, and we just want our god damn cross game chat, and something that is actually rather useful, like say. . . Order from Pizza hut with the press of the PS Home button?

If you really want to improve the store, then every item in the store should have a preview, links to demos, screen shots, articles, etc.
Most entries have nothing but a brief text description. And every one of them claims in text to be revolutionary yada yada yada… like they all sound like the same game. The text often doesn’t even tell you what genre the game is. It just says it’s an epic adventure that redefines gaming as you know it, or some other substance-not-present marketing speak.
The upshot of it all is that you have to poke around to find out about an entry you think you might be interested in. And usually, you need to leave the PS3 and go look the title up on the web on your PC.
You shouldn’t have to do this. Everything relevant to making your purchase decision aught to be right there.
I should be able to browse the Playstation Store, come across an entry that looks interesting to me, and find out everything about it I need to know before spending money on it a) without leaving the PS3 to use some other device and b) without having to search around elsewhere in the store.
People don’t want this Sony, we want crossgame chat and the ability to play music in game and ALOT more facebook integration. Another cool feature would be a shuffle option on the music icon and speed up the XMB while in game it’s slow

I’m still praying for music while in-game. Yeah, some games have it, but that’s not good enough.
Is there a “Sort by Rating” option? I’d like to see the top 50 or so games with the highest ratings.
Hi Eric, could this update address these issues too?
1.Please allow the option to choose the “system start-up” I want.
a. Original “Sony Computer Entertainment/ classical music”.
b. New “PS3/ neo-classical music”.
2. Allow me to have the XMB icons/words stay visible or fade.
3. Allow me to turn on/off the “adticker” in top right corner.
4.Please allow me to choose which “media boot-up” screen I want.
a. Original “PLAYSTATION 3/ jingle” splash screen.
b. New “black screen/ no jingle”.
The original splash is comfortable and heart warming!
5. Please bring back basic black! I want the old black colour theme with my sparkles please! PSP has lots of colours to choose from PS3 doesn’t.
6. Allow me to turn off the Whats New icon, completely removing it from my XMB.
7. Allow multiple profiles to login on same console for each controller in use & earn trophies (just like 360).
Everyone loves customization. Many PLAYSTATION 3 users would use these XMB options.
Thanks for your hardwork, I appreciate that Sony is trying to make PS3/PSN/XMB better. Please stop removing features. I know SCEA may not be responsible for the changes, so please let SCEI know too.

2 Things:
1.I think We all need a “Control Volume” for BT Headset. In-game control. Accesible without leaving the game.
My Experience is from MW2 and I dont want to hear all people comments. I want hear just my team’s comments. Or just the other team. Whatever. This is probably an InfinityWard problem.
2. Support for files larger than 4GB and more media formats(and profiles).
Please Please PLEASE give us status updates so that we know what’s going on with Playstation Share.
We have been suggesting tons of fixes for blaring problems and missing features that have just been getting ignored.
We have not gotten a SINGLE word from Sony about them, and all we see are these incremental updates that don’t contain ANY of our suggested ideas.
Just COMMUNICATE and TELL us what is going on. You will have A LOT less furious and frustrated people, and instead have happy satisfied users that are proud to own the system that actually tries to provide us with the best experience possible.
I hate that I feel like Sony doesn’t care anymore. Please. This is all it takes.

Not a bad update.
The PS3 & PSN get more like the Xbox & Xbox Live(old and current) every month. It will good to finally have some parity between my consoles.
But, I must know. When you have made the system more secure. When will we get the Other OS option back?

Are Sony getting lazy ? There are so many more updates I would like to see to the PS3 that have still not arrived years after getting the console.
So what’s the point of this update for EU user? If im right there is nothing of this in our PS Store…
I am a grateful person and this update surely adds a bit more to the system and the experience during the purchasing of more games…
However, it truly baffles me that these updates come before other features that are continually requested. Heck I don’t think anyone requested this feature. I’m only suggesting that the Sony programmers ought to be focusing more on the features that this community wants. When you release updates such as this, you KNOW this community is going to laugh at you. You KNOW this community is going to throw tantrums. You KNOW this community is going to slander you… UNTIL you give them SOMETHING that they have actually requested. Sony, you guys are great, just please focus. Focus on what is important… and make it happen.

What we need is a psn name change like why does japan get it? atleast do it like every year or maybe have one last chance to change hellll maybe even pay to change one time or somthing. and maybe have screen that tells people who they were before the name change.

All I’ve wanted from the store since day one is the ability to sort content by the date it was released (not just “latest” cos I don’t go on regularly) and the ability to find game demos quickly without having to wade through full downloads, add on content etc.
I know you’ve got a vested interest in me stumbling across something I might want to buy or buying something because it sounds nice but that’s only rarely going to happen (I buy much more on xbla because I can try before I buy on everything) and far more often I’ll just get pissed off and log out.
You know it makes sense.

I really hope there are other features in this update besides the recommendation add on because every time we have to update, there is more potential for something to go wrong with the PS3.

It would be nice if they would fix whatever they did with the previous update that now causes my PS3 to take FOREVER to load the menu options on the crossbar. Never had that issue previously. But then, when we accept the TOS now, we agree that, if Sony wants to, Sony can send an update that will brick your PS3 and require you to buy a new unit and we have NO RECOURSE! But, if you don’t agree to that bit of BS, you can’t use their service. I am a Sony fan, but they are making it nearly impossible to stand behind them when they keep finding ways not to stand behind us–the people who buy their products.
We dont care about this, we want to play music in our games!
