Hi everyone, the next PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software update is coming soon. Firmware update 3.41 will add recommendations for games and videos on PlayStation Store. When you’re browsing through the details of a particular title, you’ll see a new “You May Like” section on the right-hand side. This section lists additional items based on the purchases of other PlayStation Network members who have purchased the item you’re currently looking at.
You can then click on this section to zoom in on the list and scroll the recommended titles.
This feature is a great way to discover new games that you may not know about, and it’s another step toward making the shopping experience easier and better for you all — similar to the five-star ratings feature we added in the last firmware update. Please note that while the 3.41 update will be released shortly, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.
In addition to this PS3 update, the next PSP (PlayStation Portable) firmware update (v.6.31) will be coming as well. This is a minor update, and system software stability during use of some PSP format software titles has been improved.

Update: For those users who are replacing the PS3 hard disk drive: We have been aware of the symptoms with the system software update 3.41, released on July 27, and that it will cause the update to stop in some occasions while replacing the PlayStation 3 (PS3) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) if the PS3 system is installed with version 3.41.
To resolve these symptoms, we have released a new version of system software update 3.41 with a very minor change (the version number does not change) on August 2nd. If you are experiencing such symptoms when replacing the HDD of your PS3 system, we kindly ask you to use the latest data and try again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Why didnt my ps3 update itself? Its set to do it at 4-6am. Did it just go up? Is it not supposed to download the update and be ready for me to install. Dont you “push” that [DELETED]?
cross game chat would be nice….and make more like 360, like music while playing a game and voice msgs and more online interactions. im just sayin you guys could do better. stop trying to make ps3 a family entertainment center and make it more of a online system. Im done…..

what a useless update, how about fixing the syncing problems with trophies not showing up on the US Playstation site, or how the XMB can be slow sometimes
Wow, I never would have imagined there’d be so much whining about a simple update that took me all of 5 minutes to download and install… So what if the update doesn’t have Cross Game Chat, or anything super fancy in it. People on here are making it sound like Sony is trying to extract a pound of flesh off each of them for every “useless” update. So PSN store recommendations aren’t what everyone’s begging for? At least they’re trying to do things to enhance the users experience.
If you really want those features and X-box 360 can do it for ya, then trade in your PS3, pay up the mandatory $80 subscription fee, and prepare for a world of real gaming pain when you get the red ring of death and have to send your console in to be “repaired” up to 3 times before they just tell you to go buy another one. And I speak from experience on that one.
So compared to that, a few “useless” firmware updates are a small price to pay, and I pay it gladly.

I’ve got the red rings once and it’s a $50 xboxlive fee. All these people are asking and saying is that Sony has the potential to make better and more wanted updates but they unfortunately just made themselves look unprofessional by this unwanted update. This blog was made for PSN users to say and tell Sony what they want and Sony has yet to comply with their requests. I can now see why I pay the $50 a month for xbox live. Although it’s unecessary, at least Microsoft provides results to it’s gamers.

@374, PS3 is last in the console war because 1) 360 started with a full year head start (then again the failure rate of 360s is astronomical compared to Wii or PS3), 2) the price point to start was too high, so people went with cheaper options (even though most families that bought a Wii because it’s for “casual” gaming can now see it gathering dust) and 3) the now-dust-gathering Wii was bought by families hoping to use it as a gaming console and not as a chic decorative item, forgoing even 360s for them (and then Nintendo flips them the bird by releasing pounds of crap every year). kthxbai

no offense taken, but I just think that people are so hellbent about this cross game chatting that nothing will please them until they get it. Sony’s not the villain some are painting them to be. I think they make an awesome console which I have been enjoying for the last 2 years since I abandoned all hope of keeping a 360 running.
And I just mean to say that people are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Sure the update may seem pretty useless, but it’s hardly Sony trying to stick it to all us PSN users. You know what I mean?

For sure XGC is not the most important feature Sony should be working on for the PSN, but I believe it is way more important than “you may like”.

@391, Yeah you make sense. I just think Sony was very unprofessional about this update. We both know (at least I know) Sony is better than this. I’m more upset about the fact that it has been over 2 years and Sony has not even mentioned a firmware update for their PS2 backwards compatibilities on the newer consoles. It’s an outrage that they don’t even think about making it because of the sole fact that they’re still making money off of the PS2’s. Sony has been corrupted by greed.

I was hoping it would compete with Live but it doesn’t even feature cross game chat. Enough of these updates which seem focused around sucking out as much money as possible and give us back some functionality!!

After 8 pages of bickering I can’t tell if this is a mandatory download or not. Usually the x.x# downloads are optional, but it’s hard to tell that it’s mandatory.

I don’t use the video uploader or folding at home. Remote play wouldn’t suck so bad if it where used for something other then 2 games and PS1 support.

Sony, please remember we have to download the entire 160mb because you don’t patch your firmware you require all previous updates in one big download even if the new additions are minor
make sure the next update actually adds something people want so we don’t have to be hassled to download 160+mb each time

What about a “More from this game” link? When you’re looking at some DLC for a game in the New Releases section, you should be able to select something like that and it take you to everything related to that game, including the game itself if it’s DLC. This should be trivial considering it’s already possible to do something like that when searching by game name.
