I will NOT be downloading this update. Ever. You stole Linux functionality from me, you better believe I am going to get compensation one way or another. There are enough older games out there to keep me occupied for years. My PS3 will be forever unplugged from the ‘net. You brought this on yourselves.
Meanwhile, I will patiently wait for all the NES/SNES/Dreamcast/PS2 emulators to be ported to PS3 (already started) for some additional fun. I’m looking forward to it.
You know what the best new application is for PS3? The new FTP program. Now PS3’s can share games directly! That’s awesome, you don’t even need anything in the middle!
This is what Sony gets for slowly crippling the PS3 over the years. “It only does everything” – were you able to see into the future? That’s certainly not the case now, but don’t worry, we are working on fixing your product.

just updated my ps3 and it wont turn on at all anybody else
updated and cant get past launching game. loads up multiplayer and then freezes when game is trying to load. Have to exit to main ps screen. Have both map packs and latest updates. tried uninstall game data and reinstall. Same thing happens. Tried installing patch from usb drive and online direct to ps3 no good. Any ideas?

I should be the first person here to condone PSJailbreak/Piracy, I have my huge share of reasons to do that:
Unfortunately, I live in a country where PS3 Games with the most exorbitant taxes on the planet (that add up almost always, 100% of the real price), and a place where oddly enough, many companies get greedy to boot.
Down here, PS3 Games (launch prices) are being sold for about 144 USD (or 249 reais), we also have the most expensive PS3 on the planet, carrying a hefty price tag of around 1158 USD (or 1999 reais), all official stuff from SONY which in turn seems to don’t give a s**t about our market (once the 3rd largest gaming market in the world, just before Japan and USA, back in the 80s, and second for a short period, amidst the crash).
To make matters worse, we don’t have a regional PSN (and I’m kinda glad for that, as Sony Brazil would probably charge even more than they’re used to.
Still, I do condone Jailbreak and Piracy, particularly in this case, where the hackers aren’t playing the “fair play” and are blatantly using Sony SDK and stuff to be successful in the so called “scene”, which in turn, they are all talk about Homebrew, but oddly, the only Homebrew they released so far are two: 1- Backup Manager (Enables you to “COPY” games to your PS3); 2- FTP Server (To enable your computer to access all PS3 file system. BTW, this one is using the PS3 SDK to downright obviousness). Blantant piracy in my book.
Anyway, I think everyone here advocating piracy should be Banned for good from PSN. Sure, the console is yours, you can do what you want, but you also should be kept away from PSN, because PSN in my standpoint is a gift from Sony, for legit users, and they can do what they want.
And BTW, you guys are lucky enough to live in a country to live in a place paying like, 40, 50 bucks max for a game? And still are considering to go bucaneer?
Man, If I lived in a place like that, I would never EVER even think about piracy.

after goin through years of ripping games on pc i’ve come to realize that nothing compares to a final release of a game thats not tampered with
and i never tampered w/ any of my consoles just for the simple fact that i didnt want to end up replacing them
why was this update not auto downloaded for ps+ users? that’s crap sony, i payed for ps+ because u promised auto downloads, how about u start delivering on that promise?
my ps3 is f*&() i didn’t have any piracy stuff downloaded and i updated and bam dead it just flashes red then i turn it on and green blue flashing red tried to unplug nothing i do have a old 40 gig though and i had a problem before sent it to sony good as new till now
Here is how I see it. Pirates don’t buy games so they can easily save up for a second console and use that machine offline for their copied games and never update it, while they also have their original console to play online games. This update only fuels the pirate culture already going on with the Xbox360.
Anyways, Where is the 3D update we were meant to have 2 months ago???

Sony has a long, uphill battle ahead. The cat is out of the bag. They’ll be stopping this like they can stop it on the PSP.

Think PEOPLE if we all hacked our PS3’s and copied all of our Retail Disc Games Would you ever buy a Game Again. Most likely NOT.
If You don’t buy Games then Developers would be out of Jobs and that means NO MORE GAMING MAKING.

I spend my hard earned Valuable Cash in New Game when they first come out to support Video Gaming as we Know it.

Sony just add the features in the blog-share and these people may stop. I know that new marketing strategies involve ignoring costumers and observe their behavior instead but those don’t apply here because it’s about requests of features that can be added without compromising the hardware because we are asking for software.
3.24 update = jacked up video for my PS3.
RPhero Not happy. Came home. Powered up my PS3 so I could get a couple rounds of Warhawk on, but there was a required firmware update. So, I do the update. Restart. Check out the PSN store, then proceed to launch Warhawk. That’s when the video went all screwy and it started raining artifacts and overlapping the video. Checked all my settings. Restarted, same. Turned off, let ‘er cool down, same. Reconnected my HDMI and tried other ports. All my other devices are fine. I have to try the component to see if that works, but for now this it totally not cool Sony. How am I supposed to get my Warhawk fix like this?!
A little while after this update my PS3’s Video went blank on HDMI, AV (RWY cable) works just fine….but HDMI just shows a blank screen…….coincidence :\
Yup, it works via component cables just fine. The HDMI on my PS3 seems to have been effected by this update. Still not cool. I hope to see a fix there Sony. At least I can get some Warhawk on now.
Just remember, Sony: Hackers didn’t care about your console until you removed OtherOS.
Why hack a system when you can already run anything Linux can provide?
The only hack that was done was by George Hotz and even then, it was hardware based (timing attack), not something the average user could do and didn’t even give access to GameOS, just gave more power to OtherOS.
NOW you have something ANYONE can do. Just plug it into a USB port and go.
And you only have yourselves to blame.
since i dont pirate games im going 2 update my ps3. I hope this update doesnt mess up my ps3 my warranty is up and i dont have the money to get it fixed if something happens. I also hope it fixes this DNS error I keep getting but i dont think it will. How come i can play online with my wii just fine but when i want to play ps3 i get problems. come on sony fix it and Can we please get a update that allows us to login multiple uses and listen 2 music while playing games im sick of xbox ppl bragging bout getting what they pay for. we supporting u so please give us something useful. Im going 2 miss linux on my ps3 though
To be honest I think PS3 sales would actually go up with homebrew devices such as PSgroove. Most users like to have a certain freedom to mod their systems as they see fit.
This stucked up policy ain’t gonna help increasing the PS3 popularity, that’s for sure. Sony should drop the iron fist policy and be more friendly.

I have bought all my PS3 games. I have never even considered
piracy on PS3. I want to keep my PS3 system completely legit.
BUT
I want demoscene on PS3! Mindblowing demos and works of art
made possible by all other platforms but not the PS3. Why ?
– Because people/Sony think “homebrew=piracy”
– Because people/Sony think “straight FTP-connection to PS3=piracy”
Please remember that homebrew is where all the gaming industry began.
If something makes homebrew possible, why is it banned/forbidden?

I just want to say thank you for making this necessary update to secure our beloved system, for the past few day I have been concern about integrity of ps3 due to jailbreak hack and now you have somewhat thwarted their plans. I only hope that you won’t let your guard down even as we speak they are finding way to overcome your current update so please don’t let this ever happen for the sake all the legit users of ps3 let it not fall in the same way as the other current consoles.
im not sure what to say theres so many things i wanna say, umm idk whats up with sony lately, im not a “hacker” but first they stopped the secondary os now this, still no good updates, and you guys need to stop asking for that cross party chat [DELETED] it aint gona happen, if thats what you wanted you shouldve bought the other system, i dont mean to offend anyone but its upsetting when a system has soo much potential yet it becomes limited or “jailed” however i mostly just play brs and save movies in my ps3 got a 500gb in that sucker and lovin it so far, we shall keep waiting for more updates… again sry dont mean to offend any one dont take it personal, just…. where the hell are the good updates???

Upgraded to 3.42 yesterday via the internet with my PS3 only to find that my PS3 can no longer log in to the playstation network or even connect to the internet. Has this happened to anyone else and is this problem solveable.

I like my ps3 but I’m not going to worship the company that makes it…
So why wasn’t this automatically downloaded by consoles that have PlayStation Plus? I thought one of the big perks of Plus was the automatic download of patches and system firmware updates, and so far it hasn’t done it for any of the patches for my games, nor either of the 2 firmware updates that have been released since Plus launched. Once again, proving that Plus is a waste of money.
My PS3 is not reading disc or ejecting them and telling that UFC 2010 is currupted Data. WTF, have not had any problems till now.
So, can I finally organize my downloaded games alphabetically? Or can I at least group them into purchased vs. demos? No? Just another self-serving security patch you say? Paging Eric Lempel, hello, hello? Can someone at Sony who actually gives a care(are any of you out there?) please tell me in practical, real-world terms how the above features were not part of the first series of firmware updates back in November 2006? Are such mind-numbingly simple features never going to be added to the PS3 in its entire lifespan? Unbelievable!
Fix it I think. Rebuilt my database and file restored, everything seems fine now.
Thanks sony for keeping those out of PSN. But WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER ENHANCEMENTS/BUGFIXES REQUESTED BY USERS WHO PAY YOUR SERVICE?
