Hi everyone, as we announced previously, the PS3 system software update (v3.50) is adding support for Blu-ray 3D Disc Playback, and it will be released shortly.
Additional new features in the 3.50 update include:
- Facebook Integration: Developers will be able to create PS3 games that have deep interaction with Facebook. Once compatible PS3 titles are available, PS3 users can choose to access their information on Facebook – including user name, profile, photos and friends list – to enhance their gameplay experience.
- Grief Reporting Function: Users can send claim reports directly from the XMB for any inappropriate messages they receive from other PlayStation Network users. This feature is accessible from the option menu of the messages list in the FRIENDS category.

@SpyDudeFX np I believe you can even short by the type of trophies and you can but you have to do every game seperately when you are in the game that you want to short hit the square button

got it … who here get’s a little apprehensive when the “installing… do not turn off system ” screen shows up ??? I do EVERY TIME it’s like im expecting a power outage everytime i update .LOL just a bit curious as to how the provision of my facebook info to ganes is going to increase my enjoyement …. i must admit … that feature sounds more like data mining than something that will benefit me… IDK though … would be cool if you could elaborate more on that feature .

@fuzzyclutter everytime i sync my trophies im hoping my friends won’t delete me for being spam all the sudden

they have acknowledged that they are adding XGC (xross game chat). However, all they said is they are hard at work.
I don’t understand the fixation with cross game chat. When i’m gaming, i’m gaming, i don’t see what’s so vital ’bout “chating” with friends, it’s sorta like a teenager’s whim, the extension of the ‘in the phone all day’ m.o.
Any stress on the servers should go towards making the online experience as smooth as possible. As simple as that, that’s what a true gamer should think. Not following social/casual fads.
I’m not saying it wouldn’t be, idk, nice, cool or w/e, but im pretty sure it isnt worth the million lines of whining the topic generated D: I don’t understand why THAT’S the feature everybody cares about =/
Downloading the firmware, keep the work up (Y)
We just had one of these a week or two ago. They take FOREVER to download, they risk screwing up your PS3, they lead to burn in on my television AND I don’t WANT 3-D movies on Blu-Ray (I don’t have a 3-D television and I will never buy a 3-D television).
As I don’t care about tattling (“grief reporting”) or 3-D, I should have been able to decline this update and still been able to play online. Just got Demon Souls and was looking forward to playing, spent the last 30 minutes updating and installing. Please do not release a MANDATORY update again for at least 1 year. Thank you.
Wasn’t this update supposed to add the Netflix application as well? Or was that in October?
So where is this PS Store update that was supposed to hit tonight? Are we going to get it before the maintenance starts tomorrow?
@122 you must abuse your disc some how. i am still on my 1st and only disc. which i got the day they were available.

@fuzzyclutter, are you telling me you can’t say hi to someone and that they have the right to report you after say hi. How does this new reporting system work have you thought about that? No of course not, Is the system one sided? Probably how do i know because people i know on ps home have been reported for dumb reasons like saying Hi to someone or just walking by some dude who is randomly reporting people falsely

I personally don’t mind the Facebook integration, but it seems rather odd if you can’t do the basic procedure of updating your status and commenting on status updates on Facebook from within the PS3 browser. Perhaps have a little PSN symbol stating that you updated from a Playstation device. (The PSP use to have the PSN symbol a couple of months ago when you updated your status on that device.)

@KILLZONE79 – Good game! I thought it was worth the money. I beat it and have been looking for extra stuff for it! It is great and really funny if your like me. I haven’t grown up since high school or middle school.

It will probably never end. Sad because PSOne and PS2 were so good!! But Sony probably changed management and fired all the ppl that made it possible.. Just imagining. Still sad though.

on sports champion theres: Disc golf, volleyball, gladiator, bocce ball, table tennis, archery
my most favorite so far is gladiator.
@fuzzyclutter~this is a repost from a prior blog…correct me if I’m wrong…you are saying that if someone downloads a movie or a tv show to either a PS3 or PSP, and the machine breaks (then that person replaces it with a brand new machine) or it gets fixed through Sony, those downloads are gone and will not be replaced by Sony?? THAT IS JUST BAD BUSINESS AND WRONG!! good thing I only purchase classic games through PSN. but seriously though, let’s all just purchase those items on discs…maybe then Sony will change their mind on that situation!! all digital content is not happening anytime soon. how are they getting away with this?? my 2 cents for the day!!
It would be awesome if you didn’t stop making those video previews of the software. But i guess it doesn’t really matter, because all the recent updates have been minor.
This is not particularly applicable to people like me who don’t own a 3D TV. I think it would be a good idea to make all major updates like these have something for everyone. And not just something really minor
duh… are you even aware of psn rules .. are you even aware that logs are kept of text messages ? are you even aware that the posting of TROPHIES ON FACEBOOK is a function of the PSN and WHATEVER HAPPENS ON FACEBOOK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PSN AND SO THEREFORE , you cant be reported for what happens on facebook … your an idiot who ignores common knowledge to create a scare . sell your ps3 and go buy some common sense .

@PhillyTheCat it is true .once the machine you dl’d the video to breaks for good , you cant redownload nor will a backup function on another machine work . i lost 5 videos like that , but to be fair to sony , it’s an industry wide issue that goes back to DRM agreements with the 3rd party vendors of those videos . consumer protection laws need to catch up with technology .
How about a fix for the problem people have with the stuttering that occurs when you wirelessly stream videos to the PS3. Like AVIs. That would be awesome.

@ diablo. XGC is not needed at all. its a pretty useless feature. what are you people? teenage girls who need to be constantly on their cellphone? focus on the game!
and ps2 games probably wont happen, only the 60 and 80 gigs can play them, and its not something you can fix with an update.
we should have netflix though.

This store update is going to be massive, haha can’t wait! Man facebook is everywhere nowadays, pretty soon our boy Nathan Drake going to be using Facebook Places to locate hidden treasures, Sully tweeting his every move.
I value that the team is working hard and I’m pleased with the grief reporting, but as a customer I would like to see more game/console related updates that build upon the XMB and PSN to make it easier to use and navigate through. (Sorting options, small things really)
