As you may have heard today, Media Molecule shared some news regarding the release date of LittleBigPlanet 2. Obviously this is a big blow to our LittleBigPlanet fans, but we’re sure you’ll understand our decision. As we focus on a 2011 release for our North American, Canadian, and Latin America consumers, we look forward to releasing LittleBigPlanet 2 on January 18th, 2011. Please keep an eye out for more game details and updates as we move closer to our launch.
Here is the statement from Media Molecule:
LittleBigPlanet 2 is a crazy dream, a dream to allow players to make whatever kind of game they want, but also to play though a great adventure of drama and excitement, power-ups, and cinematics. But like all of the most ambitious ideas, it can be a considerable challenge to turn these dreams in fun games. We’ve all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we’re almost there, but because we love what we’ve made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn’t let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable. Which is why we’ve taken the hard decision to delay the worldwide release of LittleBigPlanet 2, originally slated for later this year to January 2011.
We know this will come as disappointing news for all you LittleBigPlanet fans, and believe us, we are disappointed too. We are a tight-knit team and we take enormous pride in our work, so to raise the bar we’ve set with the original LittleBigPlanet, a game that has been so embraced by all, we’ve agreed to allow ourselves a bit more time to deliver the experience that our great fans and community deserve. We are truly sorry, but hope you understand that we have to build the best possible game, as it is the foundation of our community.
On the upside, we are going to find a way to give more of you a taste of LBP2 prior to launch, so stay tuned.

Can you please tell us how to get in the Beta at least to pass the time!?
I suspected this. I believe both Littlebigplanet 1 and littlebigplanet PSP were delayed. I’ve also heard a lot of talk from the beta testers, and apparently the LBP 2 beta had a lot of game-breaking bugs. Ah well, better to wait three month for a game with very little bugs then wait one month for a game with plenty of game breaking bugs.
I am a bit saddened by this news, as that the original release date was on my birthday, but at the same time, I was also perplexed by the fact that it was coming out so fast anyways. I do believe that the extra development time will serve Media Molecule well in that the final stages of polishing and bug squashing are important to me, more than getting the game for my birthday. Thanks for the update, and good luck finishing the game!
You know! There was a time when I would been absolutely outraged at a move like this! However, I have learned to be much more calm and understanding about things! For one thing, for the first time ever, I am working on a website where I am not rushing things just to see the final result. I am very pleased how well it is turning out (much better than the rushed projects obviously) as well. I can definitely understand where the Dev Team at Media Molecule is coming from with a project of this magnitude. Thank you for taking the time to make it better for us all. Not only does it make a better product, but it makes for more time to save money for it. :)
Well…I for one, am disappointed. It was my first CE order, and was so excited…now I have to wait LONGER!!!???? I agree they should give us something extra for this. As for the beta testers…they are going to let “more” fans try it??? yeah, right!! Sorry Mm….I didn’t get to test the water beta, and most likely won’t be picked for this one either. I love this game, have had my share of problems with it, and am currently having some issue with it. I was looking forward to the new one so it would be better. Oh well…guess they got us by the *&#& cause there’s nothing we can do about it. Hope it is a perfect running game when it does come out!!

WOW first you screw me over on the first lbp when gamestop refused to give it to me because it got held back/recalled for the music track that was band. then when i get it 3 days later only to find out you used a patch to remove the questionable track. By holding it back i ended up missing the free day 1 shirt and ( I PREORDERED 2 MONTHS in advance payed in full!) then after i already bought over 40-50 bucks of DLC you come up with the game of the year edition and give it all away for free and now the game is only half the price too!! WTF where is the loyalty to the costomer like me who has shelled out so much and made your company prosper so much? SO NOW THAT I ALREADY PAYED IN FULL FOR THE SPECIAL EDITION WITH OVERNIGHT SHIPPING YOU COME TO TELL US TO WAIT TILL AFTER THE HOLIDAY!?!? WTF. I Think im going to cancle my preorder and use my gamestop credit on somthing else. I Might as well wait till next christmas you will probaly have a LBP2 game of the year edition out then and i could get all the download content free then along with the game at half price.
WOW, ps3 owners screwed yet again. Have you clowns at sony & media molecule ever heard of duke nukem forever or gran turismo 5? duke nukem has been lingering in the unfinshed game pile well over 10 years now, 5 years for GT5 if they dont delay it yet again and they almost certainly will.
I feel massive sympathy for those who pre-ordered this game. It smells like a fraud & its why I NEVER pre-order anything.

Well delays are always good things as that means they are going to release it without any major bugs(If it is released with bugs after being delayed then tha’s a problem.
Anyway only exclusive non-move game for PS3 this year is Gran Turismo 5 am I right?

Is the Beta still “in a few weeks”? or has that been pushed back as well? My guess is it will be.
This was a definite purchase, as not much else is coming out until after xmas. Now it’s moving closer to the time frame of a lot of other releases – so there’s very little to fill the holiday season drought.

This helps me alot i have Assassins Creed Collectors, GT5 Collectors, Need For Speed, Star War collectors,reserved. I was going to have to skip god of war because of it but not anymore. I forgot to metion other games.(i have a big list that doesnt include COD black ops)
Hmmm. A demo would work I guess. Quality should be 1st priority..but it’s still very disappointing.
Ah oh well. At least this means we’ll have a more thoroughly-polished game in the end. Hopefully this also means an extended beta!

LBP CE is already available for pre-order in Canada! I go mine at EB Games like a month ago…

@126 – I ordered the CE at my local EB Games without any problem.
WHYYY!!!??? Well if it means that ill get a better end product then its not too bad I guess, plus we can still visit lbp1 and play through some of the countless amounts of levels there while we wait. Also please MM, please fix the online, the online in the first game isnt very good and gets laggy at times and has disconnect problems :( Please tell me the online is much better this time around.
There’s issues with bugs of course but there’s also a mountain of suggestions from the players. In the private beta forums MM actually has a sticky thread for you to list your create mode complaints (and suggestions). They ARE listening and have a lot of work to do.
It’s really not surprising that it got pushed back but sure it’s disappointing.
Don’t give MM a hard time over it because they feel bad about the idea too but it’s delayed to make the game better FOR US. Nice to see a company that is so involved in it’s community.

lol that’s a joke. They even had a ~free~ creator pack DLC to add new tools. The sticker cut out is in LBP2. They are always thinking of new ideas for the game…good thing DLC does exist, even if some have a small price tag.

@90 Yeah except they used those very same tools to make their own DLC levels. Either way, they said it like… 2 months after the games release and then never spoke a word of it. Does that sounds familiar to something else? Oh, I don’t know… The “Play Create Share” counter?

OK, well needless to say I am disappointed that I can’t get my hands on LBP2 in November but I am glad they chose to take the time to get it right. It looks amazing. LBP is an infinite game and I couldn’t imagine what a sequel could offer… until I saw the trailer. It looks like LBP2 could possibly blow LBP out of the water, and that is no mean feat.
OK, space ninjas, keep working hard because I am sure I’m not the only one willing to shell out my hard earned cash for more Sackboy. Absolutely amazing. Best game on the PS3, period.

honestly i can wait, more polish time for the devs. i’d rather have a well made game than a rushed broken game. Still cannot wait for it but that will make the release much sweeter!

but yea release a demo for psplus members so we can see some new features…
maybe if you do release the demo we could get a rare costume and a move controller for our sackboys/girls
