As you may have heard today, Media Molecule shared some news regarding the release date of LittleBigPlanet 2. Obviously this is a big blow to our LittleBigPlanet fans, but we’re sure you’ll understand our decision. As we focus on a 2011 release for our North American, Canadian, and Latin America consumers, we look forward to releasing LittleBigPlanet 2 on January 18th, 2011. Please keep an eye out for more game details and updates as we move closer to our launch.
Here is the statement from Media Molecule:
LittleBigPlanet 2 is a crazy dream, a dream to allow players to make whatever kind of game they want, but also to play though a great adventure of drama and excitement, power-ups, and cinematics. But like all of the most ambitious ideas, it can be a considerable challenge to turn these dreams in fun games. We’ve all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we’re almost there, but because we love what we’ve made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn’t let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable. Which is why we’ve taken the hard decision to delay the worldwide release of LittleBigPlanet 2, originally slated for later this year to January 2011.
We know this will come as disappointing news for all you LittleBigPlanet fans, and believe us, we are disappointed too. We are a tight-knit team and we take enormous pride in our work, so to raise the bar we’ve set with the original LittleBigPlanet, a game that has been so embraced by all, we’ve agreed to allow ourselves a bit more time to deliver the experience that our great fans and community deserve. We are truly sorry, but hope you understand that we have to build the best possible game, as it is the foundation of our community.
On the upside, we are going to find a way to give more of you a taste of LBP2 prior to launch, so stay tuned.

So far there is 152 comments, and some have to do with the beta, and we have only 3 replies! Come on Mm get your act togehter with the beta! We should all be in the beta, at least Plus members should! It’s the least you can do, until the game comes out!
It’s good that you want to make LBP2 as better as possible. But if you guys at Mm get the game done before that time, please try releasing by the time you get it done; or at least release more open betas to us the players.
I hope you could consider one of these possibilities, as I am looking forward to buy this awesome game (already own LBP1 and it’s really cool as well :D)
I sold 3 games to give myself the extra money to buy LBP2, including LBP1, in anticipation for a November release. This is going to hurt :$
Good news about letting more people try LBP2 though. I hope I get some.
Well. Now can’t play any LBP for 4 months since I sold LBP to save money for LBP 2 Collectors Edition which i did pre order. I hope that this game will get at least a 9.75 on Gameinformer, because this 2 month delay is really sad for us die-hard LBP fans :'(

while it sucks that LBP2 had been delayed, its probably a smart thing to do considering GT5, Black Ops & the new Assassins Creed all come out at the same time. plus it gives MM time to use the beta information to tweek the game & make it really good.
at least now I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to be able to payoff the CE for LBP2 & GT5
I’d wait a whole year if I have to, as long as the game rocks and I’m sure that this delay will make sure that LBP 2 is in top form when it hits stores.

Well I think the team is doing the right thing by improving the game… although It would have been a great game for the holidays… ultimatly the best thing is to have a perfect game!

I totally saw this coming. Like, new features were still being added only a couple months from release and it’s pretty clear that the game is currently really buggy from watching the beta vids.I mean it’s still awesome because it’s LBP2, but it just doesn’t seem as polished and fine-tuned as it deserves to be. Hopefully this two months takes some pressure off and allows the game to be really great from day 1. Kind of sucks, but I’m not really that upset about it if the game will be the better for it.
My gosh the playstation community is full of babies (not everyone but a lot). People, you have to wait 2 more months, get over it. Its not that long.
I’m actually kinda glad to see this myself for two reasons. First, money is tight at the moment…. and CoD, GT5, and LBP2 were all coming out in November. Now I can get CoD or GT5 and not have to worry about missing out on my LBP2 Collector’s Edition.
My second reason is… the game wasn’t perfect. Give MM time to finish making tweaks and make the game the best it can be.

It sucks this is the game I was waiting for. Ok the bright side there is plenty coming out right now. I just got Reach so I wasnt thrilled to get another fps next. Pre others the CE so I’m good might try out Move or maybe Black Ops on 360. STILL have to get through LBP a gain…..YLOD hit my 60 gb last year about this time.
Thanks for not rushing or giving into the pressure to hit holiday sales window….better to wait till January to get a Great game then get a mediocre game and be selling it back by January

As much as I hate this its really necessary. Games coming out this fall would utterly overshadow LBP2 eg Black Ops Fallout NV. Some thing similar happened with borderlands.

Well I’m happy only because I had a real dilema between buying little big planet 2 and a playstation move bundle this fall, and now I can get both and an even more polished game, although the suspense from all those extra months is gonna kill me

This really isn’t that bad, I say take the time the game needs to be great.
As a side note I will still have GOW:GOS and GT5 this November, so I’ll still have plenty to do.
