Medal of Honor hits PS3 today; Greg Goodrich talks DICE, single-player, Frontline HD

It is finally time to take that step; a step so critical that it will elevate you to a new level of gamer. It’s time to step up to Tier 1! Medal of Honor for the PS3 is now on retail store shelves in the US.

Edit: Below, Sid Shuman from the PlayStation.Blog interviews Medal of Honor Executive Producer Greg Goodrich about the differences between the Danger Close-developed single-player campaign and the DICE-led multiplayer mode, the PS3-exclusive Medal of Honor: Frontline HD campaign included on the Blu-ray disc, and more.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Medal of Honor, it’s a modern reboot of the venerable franchise that has existed for ten years. Operating directly under the National Command Authority, a relatively unknown entity of handpicked warriors are called on when the mission must not fail. They are the Tier 1 Operators.

Over two million Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines wear the uniform. Of those, approximately 50 thousand fall under the direct control of the Special Operations Command. The Tier 1 Operator functions on a plane of existence above and beyond even the most highly trained Special Operations Forces. Their exact numbers, while classified, hover in the low hundreds.

They are living, breathing, precision instruments of war. They are experts in the application of violence. The new Medal of Honor is inspired by and has been developed with Tier 1 Operators from this elite community. Players will step into the boots of these warriors and apply their unique skill sets to a new enemy in the most unforgiving and hostile battlefield conditions of present day Afghanistan.

The single-player, created by Danger Close, is an authentic, emotional and exhilarating look at the war in Afghanistan through the lens of a band of fictional characters. The multiplayer, created by world-class studio DICE, is an adrenaline-fuelled experience that will put your first-person shooter gaming skills to the ultimate test.

Also, the PS3 edition of the game comes with the re-mastered Medal of Honor Frontline. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to storm the shores of Normandy in full HD! Medal of Honor Frontline was a landmark title for the PS2 when the game was released in 2002. It helped pave the way for first-person shooter titles and defined and established Medal of Honor as a force to be reckoned with.

When we started to talk with Sony Computer Entertainment about the possibility of releasing an HD version, everyone familiar with the franchise was extremely excited and considered it a no-brainer; it had to be done! Visual aesthetics wasn’t the only thing to get improved, however. The team also managed to implement the “aim down the sight” mechanic into the game. Get ready to suit up as Lt. Jimmy Patterson once again and head back behind enemy lines for 15 missions based on real events that occurred during WWII.

  • Major LAG online it isn’t like a Connection lag either.. it is like a Game lag it Freezes your PS3 for like 2-4 Seconds… luckily it only happens once in a while.. though I hope it gets fixed… and I hope Killcam gets added :/

  • yo sid nice leather coat btw.:P

  • I have been playing the online mp for about 2 hours. Love the objective based modes. Great job guys. Looking forward to try out the single player. Plus I can’t wait to play frontline….
Ohhhh… Ps3 owners also get early access to bf3 beta…what else could we ask for?

EA put together a superb package….thanks

  • This game looks good, but the story is kinda short. I wish EA had helped DICE make the multiplayer. Either way, this game is really fun. :)

  • Unfortunatly between my experince with the beta and watching the mixed reviews i cancelled my preorder and moved it to black ops and GT5. Having two developers and two game engines shows the lack of direction where the game wants to go. Ill stick with bc2 and wait till cod blk ops. Sorry shoulda NOT rushed the game. EA tries to hard to beat the competition but stumbles upon itself.

  • someone help me with this question

ok the limited edition comes with BF3 beta info saying get an invitition to battlefield 3 beta with your MOH limited edition disc and i went to the website it told me for more info and nothihing there.

so do register the beta by playing online?

  • Dear DICE,

My husband and I are waiting for another Mirror’s Edge game with a good story arc. Please deliver in 1080p on PS3 soon :)

    Yours truly,
    Team H

  • 4 hour campaign and a terrible multiplayer = pass

  • No other MOH game will ever top MOH Underground on the PS1.

    <3

  • Wow theres invite to session from XMB but no join session from xmb option

  • overall MOH online kicks ass :)

  • It got a 6 on ign haha

  • The multiplayer is totally uninspired and brings absolutely nothing new to the table. The singleplayer is too short with a storyline so flat it manages to make COD’s story actually interesting which is really some accomplishment. The funny is, there are millions of people out there who don’t get enough of these generic shooters. I guess to each its own, let EA’s marketing do the brainwash and totally ignore all the gems which are out there for some white trash shooter game.

  • Yeah, anyone who has played the beta would disagree. Why waste 60 bucks on 5 hours of gameplay and 8 maps

COD Black OPS is NOT pay to play. thats a complete lie

  • Post # 17 said it best. Poor spawn points, or lack there of. Thats my biggest complaint so far. I’m gonna give it a few to see what they do with updates and patches.Love the concept of the scoring, different matches and the weapons. Mean while, I’ll be keeping my BCBF2 for back up.

  • The game is very buggy indeed. Was quite disappointed when it cannot compared to MAG. The multiplayer realism cannot be accurate as MAG and individual player is on go to die basis and respawn. Respawn times are short which is an up point. Game contents are attractive indeed but still loses. Might be a last minute touch up modes.

I still prefer MAG for international multiplayers’ mode.

  • Picking this up tomorrow. I don’t care what the haters say. The UE3 looks great in this games single player portion and DICE on MP with Frostbyte can’t be bad either. I’m looking forward to having this in my ever-rotating collection as I have no FPS right now. Just MLB The Show ’10, Dead Rising 2, Castlevania:LoS(Phenomenal BTW), Enslaved and Sports Champions. So this should be a nice addition till Fallout New Vegas and such. I have dozens of PSN games but really want Dead Nation and Costume Quest as well. Great games coming down the pipeline and amazing games I’m playing right now.

  • this game is exactly the fps i was waiting for. I hear its short but i haven’t beat it yet, and you need to put it on hard, but it is different and way better then other fps’s. loving the mp also.

  • Great game

  • Story mode is soooo realistic though, i got this for my 360 and the LONG range sniping is realistic also; none of that bullet instantly traveling to its destination, it takes time, like in real life…wish this was for psp

  • The single player is great. But the multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired I would like to talk why we gather our play group together. That way we know when to start and what we all decide To play. I would love to see a game they didn’t have so many players. similar to battlefield bad company 2’s squad rush. Another channel to speak clan members. otherwise the gameplay is pretty well. The hit detection good.

  • Single player is awesome, haven’t experienced any glitches so far and story and atmosphere is great. Sure it’s nothing new but who really expected more than just a FPS? I actually like the single player a bit more than multiplayer right now, online:the spawning does need work and map selection but these things can be patched. Online is very much like bc2 but i feel that Dice held back in this game to put the goods in the next BF game. This game looks amazing, especially in daytime. The Sound in this game is incredible if you have a good system. For the price it was nice to get an hd version of frontlines along with the new game. Storming the beach is one of my favorite video game memories. This should take up some time until COD drops. Sure it’s just another FPS but aren’t they all, this game doesn’t deserve the bad press it’s getting.

  • I love how they keep calling this a ‘reboot’ of the series when the last game was released in 2007. (which is current gen)

  • I’m enjoying it. I don’t know what other folks expected – some world changing game I guess – but as a game, it’s not bad. It’s a nice change of pace from the, frankly, tired COD franchise and the over the top Battlefield series. Is it perfect? Nope. Is it enjoyable? Sure. Every game has problems its first week of launch with servers it seems, so I won’t gripe about that. The one thing I was a bit shocked by (and I have not completed it yet) is the reported single player length. I was hoping for a few more hours there but again, what I’ve played so far seems cool and I adore the atmosphere of the mission mode online. Having that radio chatter from HQ makes you feel a bit more involved than normal online modes would have you be.

  • I pre-ordered it on Amazon, it arrived in the afternoon and I played the single player campaign for 4-5 hours straight on hard. I had an absolute BLAST playing this game. Sure it froze a couple times. And to some people that could be a game killer for them. But not me. I know the game will be patched in the future only making it better. Although I’m not looking forward to whatever greedy DLC that EA will be releasing for obscene prices but at least the single player entertained me to the point where I came away from the entire thing impressed. Sniping has never felt more vicious in any game that i’ve played thus far…awesome.

The multiplayer certainly is no BFBC2 but I don’t mind that either. It’s different, and different isn’t too bad in this case. Looking forward to playing the Tier 1 modes and a little bit of multiplayer here and there. I do wish they will patch in a 3D mode like Call of Duty: BO. Who knows… I give the game an 8.25 which isn’t a bad score at all.

  • Yeah, the game is getting bad reviews.

  • i played moh and i tend to disagree with the low score ign and gamespot gave you, i really enjoyed it!

  • Someone at EA, Dice and Danger Close should be held accountable for the fraudulency present in this game. I am thoroughly pissed!

  • that is so cool how the hd remastered version of medal of honor front line awards a trophy for spotting the ufo

  • i think medal of honor was all right didnt really impress me though i think if they wer to take a little more time to make it and think about the players it would have been better i mainly just got it to keep me entertained till black ops comes out i jus think overall it was sloppy and they didnt think about the gamers when they made this
