Introducing PlayStation Rewards – A New Way to Earn Exclusive Status and Recognition

491 0

Today, we’re excited to share news of the launch of PlayStation Rewards, a new program that recognizes and rewards our users for simply doing what they love – playing games and interacting with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer. We really wanted to create something that says, “thank you” for being a loyal PlayStation fan.

PlayStation Rewards - Stacked

In its initial launch tomorrow (Oct. 28th), PlayStation Rewards will be an invitation-only beta to all eligible PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. We’re kicking things off as a beta so that we can get feedback from our most loyal fans in order to make it the best possible rewards program it can be. It’s also worth noting that during the beta phase, the program will be focused on PlayStation 3 owners, but we hope to include PSP users as well not too far down the road. Oh, and one more thing: PlayStation Rewards will be free – there is no fee to join!

Now, to give you a bit more details on the new loyalty program… PlayStation Rewards is designed to give you the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards as a thank you for your continued interest in PlayStation. And, the best part is that you don’t have to do anything different. Keep playing new games, buying content purchased from PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, download movies and TV shows, or just communicate with us by taking one of our surveys, for example, and you’ll now be recognized for it.

The more you play and participate, the more progress you’ll make through our three reward tiers — “Select,” “Pro,” and “Legendary.” As your status increases, so do the rewards. And if you want to check out your current status level, simply go to your private profile page and look at the reward progress meter.

So what do you get? Right now, rewards include things like…

  • Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
  • Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
  • Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)

That’s just the start and our plan is to continually grow and improve the reward offering as the program itself evolves. Your feedback in this beta period will help make the program even better!!

If you’re a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards.

To learn more about our new loyalty program, check back tomorrow when the site will be live and the beta forum will be available for all eligible participants.

We look forward to showing you our appreciation along the way!

  • Hey Chris,

Thanks for replying. I do hope that is true. We can barely feel Sony Philippines’ marketing push here. I believe every PS gamer should have these treats too.

I hope you can think out of the box and deliver something better than avatars and themes. Plus already gets that.

  • Yo, Dis Program? It’s Tight. I really like this and I hope you guys really include the idea of rewarding those who get trophies for their games like me. I think there’s a lot of benefits to be found in this idea. :D

Been a Playstation Fan since the PSOne Days and all This program does is just reassures me is that the Playstation is where’s it’s at. Hoping to see what the future will bring us. Sony. Make.Believe

  • Awesome! Home goodies are always welcome. I think the level of content has been fine for the plus membership. More across the board sales could help even more. The KZ3 beta was a blast last night and other outlets are giving out codes. Just remember to jot down the bugs you guys find so we can enjoy an awesome final product.

  • So, if I just opted in to get PS emails today, I won’t get an invite to this :(. Had I known something useful would come from those emails, I wouldn’t have opted out in the first place! I like this PS Rewards program idea too. If you stream video from your PC to the PS3, does that count as usage? Same with watching DVD, Blu-Ray or Netflix content?

    • If you are a GAP member or subscribed to PlayStation Plus by October 24, but are not opted-in for marketing, you won’t get your email invitation, but you still have a chance to participate in the program if you act fast.

Once the program is live, sign-in to us.PlayStation.com and go to the Forums. If you made the cut for the invitation only beta you’ll be able to see a forum called PlayStation Rewards Private Beta. In there you’ll find instructions on how to be part of the beta. Good luck!

  • This is nice. I own a huge load of PS3 games and PSN games together that are too huge for me to count. I spent a lot of money getting most PS3 games, (mostly buying them new instead of use) and I seem to be a legendary already.

  • So looks like only PS+ members are “loyal PlayStation fans” !
    Nice one $ONY !

  • I´m guessing like Dafreakzo…
“I am a PS+ member but not certain if I am opted into marketing. Any idea how I can check this?”

  • Oh awww no Canada then? :(

  • Oh wow. I was about to ask if this will be heading up north and got my answer before even asking. :)
And I’m not gonna lie, but I plan on making legendary status very quickly. I’ve been a very strong supporter of everything Playstation since PS1 and have been a Playstation Plus user since launch.

I really love this idea though, good stuff Sony. You keep finding cool new ideas to keep us hooked.

  • Will it include PSP, comics and video purchases?

  • Hi all! I have just recently started to connect myself to other gamers and forums for us. I have to say that this is a very good move by SCE. Do I understand it correctly this reward membership is not just for Americans? Loyalty is truly a trait that is needed in spades these days. You are all very welcome to see what I have accomplished so far as far as gaming goes and blogging. :)

  • You should be gunning for being better then Club Nintendo, not the same as iCoke. iCoke is a complete waste.

  • I think it’s time for a Canada exclusive beta.

  • Color me intrigued. I think this is a pretty fantastic way to reward people for brand loyalty and separate yourself from the competition a bit.

Will rewards eventually become things like free PS1 Classics? Maybe costumes in Sony exclusive games like LittleBigPlanet2?

  • super awesome i’m totally getting into this now! (^_^)

oh and also thank you so much for the quick response Chris!
    love ya lol

  • another doubt: If a product in psn plus is cheaper than the normal store, will be valid the same points in the rewards program?

  • Hopefully SCEE take this. I like the idea

  • Nice idea , bad idea usa only *again* Remember there are more *loyal PSN lovers* on the globe.

  • Awesome idea. Creating a tighter community of people that just simply love to play games, and get exclusives for it! Great job Sony. I am looking forward to my invitation tomorrow and giving some feedback! Keep up the good work!

  • So this must be the “PSNBeta” that I have seen under my login for the last few weeks…..its all becoming clear now!

  • You know what would be great… % discounts on PSN items for higher ranking members :D

Competitions are great though. In Hong Kong we have competitions every month for PS Plus members. I’ve won a couple of times and it’s a great feeling… not just winning, but having the chance to win cool exclusive stuff. The concert tickets that I won the first time more than covered my PS Plus membership, so it’s like I have the whole year for free.

Anyway… more exclusive competitions is GOOOOOOOOD

  • Wait so the beta is open only to PS+ and GAP member’s?

Then after a a certain period of time its open to everyone?

Looking forward to more great years, you guys rock!

  • add canada FAST!

  • Will we be gaining points toward the program just by playing games on the PlayStation Network?

  • ok so for the people who are in the beta and get the rank up pretty high will they keep it or will it reset after its out of beta?

    • You’ll keep whatever status you had by the end of the beta. You’ll have to stay active though, because status is only retained through the following program year.

  • @54 yeah you might want to take you own advise..
It says nothing about coming to everyone.
It says gap and ps+ members only…

  • I wonder how many people will cry and complain about this FREE program.

  • Thanks for remembering G.A.P. Were still going strong in our community of members!

  • Chris will there be future waves? There are so many more engaged and loyal gamers that aren’t Plus or GAP, that it would’ve been to nice to see a third criteria for them to participate in the beta.

    • We can’t wait to open this up for all the other fans out there. We’ve considered adding future waves. But, we want all beta participants to start with an even playing field.

  • Oh yeah any idea when invites go out? Thx

  • This is pretty exciting! I really hope I get an invite! =)

  • Please disable comments.

  • sounds interesting. i’ve been a gap member since 2002 i think and a ps+ member since day one.

this suggestion isnt playstation rewards related but i’d like to see a merger of all the playstation sites.. the blog is nice, the forum is cool but almost seems like its ran by an absentee landlord. i think the soe.com (station.com) should be the home for all things playstation. forums, blogs, developer Q&A sections, promotion sections, playstation games should have their pages linke through soe.com not run indipendently so that one log on works for all access. it sucks having to log on to the blog and log on playstation.com and if then if i want to go to the killzone or socom sites i have to then log on again.. just merge it all into one neat package.

i absolutely love the soe.com layout and think it should expand beyond just the soe mmo coverage.

    just my two cents.

  • Sounds like it could be an interesting experience, I cant wait to try it.

  • I’m a PlayStation Plus Member. Will I receive an email from Sony or a message on my PS3 via the PlayStation Network?

I ask this because I just found out I was invited to the Dead Space Mutiplayer Beta and missed out. =/

  • When are the invites sent?

  • oh and by the way, what should i wear for my trip to CES? business casual? casual? when can i expect my tickets?

    ;)

  • Awesome!

  • Well, guess the EMEA is left out again, even this region proberly has the most loyal fanbase outside Japan.

Making trophies part of this would actually mean that SCE would have to take care of the sad hackers that are out there, which they sofar has opted not to, even several 100 people has done it (just the ones I can find, proberly 1000s in reality), another thing is – if everyone is part of it, then what’s the point, at some point in the future everyone is Legendary and get’s the same things, so what’s the perk at that time.

  • i was gap bu when i merged my undergrund account to the new psn, it went bye bye. i want in! i’m also rls

  • PLEEEEEEEEEEEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
    PLEEEEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

DON’T MAKE THIS USA AND CANADA ONLY!!!!!!!

COME’ON PEOPLE THE WORLD IS MORE THAN THAT!!!

I’m from Costa Rica… and i’m said to say that piracy rules the business here… i try to do my part to avoid it and fight it but you make things harder when you exclude the rest of the world!

becuase my country is soooo awesome, here a PS3 game sales for $100(gotta love globalization), while a pirate copy of a 360 goes for about $5… there are laws about piracy but they never do anything so they sell pirate games like if they were legal…

My point is… i’m a loyal ps3 fan… and i won’t change to other system… but i really hate when you make something cool like this and is just USA AND CANADA ONLY!!

PS: if there something you can do to fight piracy here will be awesome!! maybe you can sue the country! :D

  • Here’s a very cool idea.

    How about this “reward” :

“Comply to the most-requested things on the PS blog-share”

That’s what people REALLY want. I LOVE everything you guys create to entertain us and deviate our attention from what we REALLY want. I’m definitely up for these rewards, it sounds really nice. But how about giving us what we want for a change?

  • Not having this be any sort of retroactive is a slightly bad move. Some of us got our ps3’s back in the day when the ps3 was the last thing anyone wanted to admit they had. And through those slow and painful days, many of us played demos, bought games and psn content.

If you still refuse to do retroactivity, then you should seriously consider at least giving those of us that have been loyal fans already, a bonus of some sort. A jump to the second tier immediately or something like that. Perhaps psn cash or a free game we get to keep regardless of status or membership.

  • Hey chris, will this mean will some of the awards might be able to change our psn name ;) lol

  • So I’m a PlayStation Plus member, have my stuff checked in notification preferences (since last year), and have spent thousands on the PSN.

Does that some how sum up me having a possibility?

  • God, I pray I’m in this. I’m level 14 and proud of it. I’ve been looking forward to Sony doing something like this. This is why I love Playstation! Loyalty!

  • First time poster, long time reader/fan i just loged on to write this – Great idea, agree with other posters that trophy-reward(s) should be linked somehow. Question: If i just went to my account tab on ps3 and changed to receive stuff will i be able to participate in this program now?(I was wondering why i haven’t got any beta or anything of the sort, now I know it was probably because the i did not have the receive messages/offers checked x[ thank you poster that suggested changing that in the account tab)

  • My question is hwo can I link my GAP account to the account I actually use on my PS3? I used a different email when I was on PS3 forum and I use another for my PS3.

  • This subject piqued my interest and I had to go hunting for my old Playstation Underground/GAP stuff. In a drawer at work I found my old PSU cd folder/binder with Playstation pen and GAP membership card! The pockets in that thing look like they’re designed to hold the old, large instructions from my PS1 games. Ahhhhh memories…

Since I regularly receive PS emails, I assume I’ll be invited to the Beta? The program looks & sounds great!

  • I’m a member of GAP, but not Plus. I’m definitely a loyal PlayStation fan. I hope that I get into the beta.
