Introducing PlayStation Rewards – A New Way to Earn Exclusive Status and Recognition

491 0

Today, we’re excited to share news of the launch of PlayStation Rewards, a new program that recognizes and rewards our users for simply doing what they love – playing games and interacting with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer. We really wanted to create something that says, “thank you” for being a loyal PlayStation fan.

PlayStation Rewards - Stacked

In its initial launch tomorrow (Oct. 28th), PlayStation Rewards will be an invitation-only beta to all eligible PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. We’re kicking things off as a beta so that we can get feedback from our most loyal fans in order to make it the best possible rewards program it can be. It’s also worth noting that during the beta phase, the program will be focused on PlayStation 3 owners, but we hope to include PSP users as well not too far down the road. Oh, and one more thing: PlayStation Rewards will be free – there is no fee to join!

Now, to give you a bit more details on the new loyalty program… PlayStation Rewards is designed to give you the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards as a thank you for your continued interest in PlayStation. And, the best part is that you don’t have to do anything different. Keep playing new games, buying content purchased from PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, download movies and TV shows, or just communicate with us by taking one of our surveys, for example, and you’ll now be recognized for it.

The more you play and participate, the more progress you’ll make through our three reward tiers — “Select,” “Pro,” and “Legendary.” As your status increases, so do the rewards. And if you want to check out your current status level, simply go to your private profile page and look at the reward progress meter.

So what do you get? Right now, rewards include things like…

  • Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
  • Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
  • Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)

That’s just the start and our plan is to continually grow and improve the reward offering as the program itself evolves. Your feedback in this beta period will help make the program even better!!

If you’re a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards.

To learn more about our new loyalty program, check back tomorrow when the site will be live and the beta forum will be available for all eligible participants.

We look forward to showing you our appreciation along the way!

  • Hell yeah! This is why I’ve been with Playstation from the PSX era. Good stuff =]. Crazy thing is, I suggested something like this is the share blog, though nothing I’ve ever posted has shown up, even after months. Whatever though, this makes me want to join PS+

  • This is one of the many things I love about Sony. You guys always have the coolest ideas for your customers.

  • HELP ! I want in the G.A.P !!!

    I’ve been registered with PlayStation.com since 06′ , a PlayStation.com forum member since 04-25-2008 with over 5300 post
as well member of just about every other PlayStation Exclusive Game forum. I’ve been in over a dozen PS3 Betas including the closed home beta, follow everyone who is anyone with the PlayStation on Twitter, I have my two PS3, PS2, PSP and all my games registered with PlayStation.com and all my other Sony stuff registered with Sony and I’ve been a Qore and PlayStation annual subscriber since launch.

  • What ever happened to ” PS Thanks ” that you copywrited? I assumed that would be the name of a program like this?

  • Hey can you please clarify is it ALL + or “select” + members? been + since dya one and currently in the LBP2 and KZ3 (huge difference on both ^_^ ) and hope im in this if it’s “selected” +.

  • *waves @ fodawim* lol

…no email for me either…and i’m AWSM. lol

  • I hope that those that have always been with Playstation even fans in Canada don’t get pushed to the side lines

    • Thanks for the sentiment Quamina. And while I can’t promise anything, I can tell you we are always exploring opportunities to expand this program in the future, as loyalty has no boundaries. Also, we have some Canadian blood on the US team here, so rest assured the GWN is not forgotten!

  • *waves back @ IceCreamBandit*

I’ll be the judge of whether your AWSM or not :p

  • idk if you’re still checking this, but i saw you promoting that people post ideas. perhaps the program can have trophies for completing odd events, like checking into home three weekends in a row or playing the same game four nights in a row. if thats not possible maybe have it so that rewards members can post their stats that count on a card, with information beyond just trophies. like a game collection or how often they play, but make what appears optional.

  • Great idea but unless you get rewards that are actually worth something, what’s the point?? Make it a points-based system where you can later redeem the points earned for a PSN giftcard of $x value for a set number of points.

Also, it would be a great way to finally make trophies worth something, where you get a set number of points per trophy earned, for example 1p per bronze trophy, 2p per silver, 5p per gold and 10p per platinum or similar.

  • Well i hope after being a GAP member (since 2000 i believe) that i get into this new program. I’ll be expecting my email Sony :)

  • So, are us high star level GAP/PS+ users pretty much out of the ranking now? :/

  • I was excited at first…until I just saw the US-only part.
At least when Nintendo of America (and even Square-Enix) brought out Club Nintendo over here they did it for both Canadians and Americans.
Now I just feel totally let down by Sony yet again.
I guess we’ll get it two years afterwards like with the video store or never like with the comics store.

  • Will Rewards level be tied in any way to how many Trophies you earn?

  • Well, I have an idea. Since Plus isn’t giving us any free HD movie rentals, maybe Rewards can give us some free HD movie rentals or even *gasp* some sort of rental pass? Otherwise I will just keep using Netflix.

  • sign me up…Im a GAP and a PLUS member….

  • If we could accumulate points or credits for every game we buy for the PS3 then after we reach a certain dollar amount spent we earn free credit in the PlayStation Store to buy stuff or rent movies.

You could base the amount of credit given on date purchased from the release date (so buy within 15 days of release gets 100% credit or 100 points, 30-45 days = 75% or 75 points, etc, etc… After 60 days or something there is no credit) Maybe even extra credit for pre-orders… That would promote purchasing games at release I would think.

Also offer credits twords hardware (PS3, PS2, PSP, /cough PlayStation Phone /cough)

I am sure there is some kind of bar coding or something already in place on all the games that Sony can manage all of the tracking.

    Just a thought

  • With all these rewards coming in sheesh…no wonder I have to invest on a spare drive or upgrade it. 250GB fills up quick.

  • Man I wish i would of opted in for marketing… Oh well i opted in now, maybe that G.A.P membership ive had for years will get me into something amazing yet!

  • someone dial whine-one-one and get them a wah-mbulance

  • So will you be able to check your tier status on your PSN profile on PS3? Or just the PlayStation Website file, you guys weren’t cleat about that part.

  • Awesome news. Keep it up guys!

  • finally a separate way to prove my loyalty other than trophies! ive spent thousands of dollars since i got my 1st generation PS3 (got it on june 26 2007) payed a full $600 for it, bought 95% of all the exclusive titles from 07 to present, cant even count the hours ive put into playing online AND offline with my ps3.

i bought a year of ps+ on july 29th 2010, and have been an annual subscriber of qore since june 08 till june 2010. i download every pulse episode, and am a constant contributor at the official playstation forums.

oh and just so its known, i celebrate my ps3 anniversary every year on june 6 which is the day i bought it, with a party at my house with my online friends via video chat and in person for those who live close to me!

p.s. for the people complaining that its only for plus subscribers, READ THE POST ffs, its kicking into beta and early adopters of PS+ and GAP members are the ones who are gonna be INVITED. it doesnt mean you wont be able to access it when it goes live in april, you dont need plus to access it in april as its for everyone online. if you dont like being left out for betas then buy PS+ its one of its main selling points

  • Im in PS+ and GAP. Hope I get in.

  • Sounds like something to look forward to. Disappointed it isn’t coming to Canada for the beta though.

  • are the invitations being sent out by email, or do we need to look somewhere else?

  • @Jeigh_Mate

Same for the yanks on our board… except we can actually see the country on our board.

  • im a PS1 PS2 PSP and PS3 owner im not a playstation plus yet when can i joined this program

  • While does seems like a cool thing will this just end up being like PS+? its free yes, but will you offer more than avatars and themes. I really don’t see why people praise avatars and dynamic themes like its the second coming of Christ. its just a photo, it doesn’t do anything special, and if the themes are like that resident evil one we got for free awhile back then i cant see why people like themes like that.

Granted this is something new and i hope i get into this. i just hope this wont have so much wasted potential.

  • i hope to see the psp getting the same treatment too

  • Its a great way to thank the loyal community Sony. My question is will the users history of purchases games played etc. play any role in the rewards program or does it start fresh from when the program starts.

  • I cannot wait to get the invite! This is what makes Sony stand out from Microsoft. Perhaps we can also get some animated avatars? Gif images would do the trick!

  • Sony gives back to its loyal fan communities and microsoft finds ways more ways to extort from theirs

  • cool, I can’t wait to see this in action.

  • will this program count your previously played games and stats? or will it only count what it records as of the launch of the program?

  • Finally being loyal to the Sony PlayStation brand and being part of the G.A.P means something!!

  • Ok, so I’ve been apart of PS Plus since the very beginning, but I just realized I haven’t had the marketing email from Sony itself box checked, so I just checked it on my PS3 account settings. Does that mean I won’t be able to be apart of the rewards program? I sure hope I can, I’ve been a loyal member of PlayStation for a LONG time…

  • I’m in G.A.P and PS+, so you’re saying because I’m Canadian I still have no chance?? :/

  • Its seems like it is equivelent to Playstation plus but I will look forward to seeing the content that Sony delivers for this holiday season.

    • Hi Curlyfry07

We actually think they are two very different programs, but complimentary. With PlayStation Plus, you get lots of great content and features with your purchase price. PlayStation Rewards is free to join, and it rewards the activities you probably already love to do on your PS3 with status and cool rewards as you earn your way up the tiering system. You can’t buy legendary status, when you show it off to your friends, they will know you’ve earned it! :)

  • Can’t wait for this! I am a PS Plus member and I will be signing up for sure! :)

  • Awesome! Another beta for us + users.

    • Hey Noex, the beta is actually open to Plus and GAP members. Please take another look at the original post for more details.

  • Ok, well we shall see what this brings but if it’s mostly just “sweepstakes” and Playstation Home items and rewards it’s fairly pointless. I would say most PS3 users couldn’t care less about Home.

Now can we talk about the pink elephant in the room? Where is Cross Game Chat or atleast an update as to any progress Sony is making on this VERY late feature?

  • @40 PS5 confirmed :P

  • Ah.. fantastic idea.. I had spent quite a bit on PS3 including games, movies, PSN downloads, probably over 1.000$ in total..

It’s too bad I’m in Canada.
I really don’t understand why US and Canada are not under same regulations… :(

  • Yay! Can’t wait!

  • I’ll be honest here, I lean towards buying my games on the 360 ’cause achievements mean more to me than trophies do, but if this program starts rewarding players for their trophy level count and giving out prizes to them then you’ll see my 360 immediately on ebay :).

  • @ chris so this means the ps5’s in the works! to the nerd forums! lol

  • Of course something like this would come out after I get rid of my PSP and lost my GAP status. I wish there was a way to get back into GAP.

  • HELP! I’ve always been opted in to receive email and I didn’t get the invite so I checked my settings page on ps.com neither were checked and when I went to manage my account both were checked on that page

  • and yes I’m in ps plus
