Introducing PlayStation Rewards – A New Way to Earn Exclusive Status and Recognition

491 0

Today, we’re excited to share news of the launch of PlayStation Rewards, a new program that recognizes and rewards our users for simply doing what they love – playing games and interacting with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer. We really wanted to create something that says, “thank you” for being a loyal PlayStation fan.

PlayStation Rewards - Stacked

In its initial launch tomorrow (Oct. 28th), PlayStation Rewards will be an invitation-only beta to all eligible PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. We’re kicking things off as a beta so that we can get feedback from our most loyal fans in order to make it the best possible rewards program it can be. It’s also worth noting that during the beta phase, the program will be focused on PlayStation 3 owners, but we hope to include PSP users as well not too far down the road. Oh, and one more thing: PlayStation Rewards will be free – there is no fee to join!

Now, to give you a bit more details on the new loyalty program… PlayStation Rewards is designed to give you the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards as a thank you for your continued interest in PlayStation. And, the best part is that you don’t have to do anything different. Keep playing new games, buying content purchased from PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, download movies and TV shows, or just communicate with us by taking one of our surveys, for example, and you’ll now be recognized for it.

The more you play and participate, the more progress you’ll make through our three reward tiers — “Select,” “Pro,” and “Legendary.” As your status increases, so do the rewards. And if you want to check out your current status level, simply go to your private profile page and look at the reward progress meter.

So what do you get? Right now, rewards include things like…

  • Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
  • Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
  • Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)

That’s just the start and our plan is to continually grow and improve the reward offering as the program itself evolves. Your feedback in this beta period will help make the program even better!!

If you’re a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards.

To learn more about our new loyalty program, check back tomorrow when the site will be live and the beta forum will be available for all eligible participants.

We look forward to showing you our appreciation along the way!

  • So im a PS+ member.

Been with sony since the PS1 era..

Have spent an outrageous amount of money to support them.

and Im still not in the beta?
    Whats up sony?

  • omg omg i want in on this but I bought plus and expire like 3weeks ago. ill re buy it but i wont get invited :( plz sony dont forget me . Bought 2 ps3 over 1,000 worth of dlc and psn games and bought tonssssssss of ps3 games.

  • Great! Another advantage to being a member of the G.A.P. I just hope I get an email soon.

  • Man, I hope I get this invite to the rewards beta, after beta testing tons o’ stuff, being on the forums for years, and a plus member from the start. Just got the PS move and I’m loving it so far. Yeah. bonafide Sony fanboy here.
    -RG.

  • HELL YEAH!!! THAT GONNA BE AWESOME ND GREAT 2 ALL GAMER!!

  • Sounds like a good program. I can only hope I get an invite into it.

    *PROUD PS+ MEMBER*

  • Sounds awesome, Chris! Can’t wait to check mail in the morning! I do wish this program was retroactive. To show & prove what members have been playing & doing with their PS3s! Thanks Sony!

  • very very cool i am all about sony i am a GAP member and a PS+ subscriber, thank you sony=ps3

  • So hold on, let me get this straight, does every ps+ member (that signed up before the 24th) get this program/beta or only select few ps+ members (that signed up pre-24th)get it-like the killzone3 beta for example?

  • Sounds awesome! It would be nice if this would go retro also on all of your previous purchases. :)

Hoping a chance to get into the beta of this program!

  • First off let me say that this is a wonderfull idea in part. the part that i am mostly botherd with is the fact that i have been a very loyal sony fan since playstation the original big blocky grey one. and now you guys are telling me that in order to be “loyal” fans we must be plus subscribers??? this is very lame.this should be for everyone not a “plus” group:(

  • While I get rewards for unlocking the YLOD in march forcing me to buy another ps3.

Huh SONY, you gonna reward me for the 1000 dollars Ive spent in total just to own a working ps3 system

(not including games, controllers, ps+, ect)

Do I also get rewards for spending over 100 a year on compressed air just to keep my ps3 clean.

  • theres a real nice mini air blower for electronics on amazon.com “Metro Datavac electric duster” only cost me like 40 bucks. Made for cleaning dust out of pc’s etc. Its real powerful, has attachments. You should check it out. Save some cash, an keep those empty compressed air cans out of the landfill. ^_^

  • I have been a member of the Gamer Advisory Panel for almost 5 years (4yrs 50weeks) I’m pretty sure I will be accepted. I love playing games on my PS3. I think Sony may have just pulled something out thas great its like Gamestops new rewards program. I hope if I do get into the beta that I can help with ideas. And I remember when Sony would send coupons for money off of games at best buy and circuit city.

  • Susan 2 Questions 1 idea:
    Questions
    1. When is it will be live for Canadians?
    2. Service (feature ) live at midnight I assume?
    Idea:
It would be grate if you reward people not just for current purchases but as well in the past those who do walk with you a long-long way counting in 14+ years we are together as example.. So as an extra you could implement for people adding serial numbers of past generation PlayStation Console and earning an extra point or whatever you want to call it…

  • Glacier928 I agree allot with this guy:

The amount of time money and resources spent on Sony/Playstation Products should equal out to some nice rewards for instant,

the first people who signed up either the first week month or 3 months for a year subscription for Playstation PS+, should keep the games they get for free after a set amount of years of owning the service 5years 10years whatever you know?

The people who adopted the Playstation3 in the first year of it’s release should be rewarded 1 month discount where everything is from 50 to 75 percent off in the store (sales would sky rocket)

Late adopters will not be left out of course (Sony do work)

and since we are putting out ideas I shall keep going and spread my ideas out to you

  • Trophies: This is a big one It should depend on what level you are to where if you are lvl 25 you can finally use the Trophy Room which you can hire or just get a team from your already big enough HOME devs and make up a trophy room of at least an large enough Icon to display a Platinum status Trophy (ie the Lair example of a Large Dragon or just a Dragon’s head perfect) (medal of honor have a Tier 1 solider sniping from the mountain tops) This is an important one for me because Home was suppose to be a really big thing then somewhere in Sony people stopped caring…like the fans, but not me.

Home: in general needs more character. it has been getting much better with the content that’s been out. How about changing clothes in other ppl’s places because i’ve been wanting to show a friend a costume but I have to back out then jump back in it’s annoying. Music Music Music…and Video. I know there are steps and processes, but how long does it take to finalize things like that?

  • speaking of media maybe with a PS+ towards a rewards type gift depending on how much you use your browser will get it upgraded first to Firefox or just a faster browser. The idea of a Browser was amazing then it stopped there. Sony needs people who thing beyond just the idea part and actually go through and support those ideas. Which leads me to the next idea.

Fans may just be fans, but Media Molecule has shown otherwise by picking some of their top fans whom have done some of the best levels for Little Big Planet for their sequel. Maybe Sony should take some tips from their developers? At the end of the Rewards Beta, you should pick either the top 5 or top 10 however many people you need to keep the Rewards going that have shown really unique and well thought out ideas.

  • so can i get a reward for being the sexiest ps3 gamer girl?! ;)

  • Indeed updated browser yes please, I dont have a pc, and dont want one. Its 2010 goin’ on ’11. Dont ya think we deserve an up to date and up to par web browser firmware upgrade Sony? please? ^_^

  • Features: I like the idea of Slacker Raido for the PS3. I like the idea of Skype for the PS3. I like the idea of Amazon Kindle/a readable format for .doc or .pdf files…colour me crazy but! These things would make the ps3 that much more accessible to a wide array of people. I know I would use that feature possibly college students. You know you could possibly run an app store for ps3 (how that would work that’s up to you guys) but apps for calculators, a Napoleon voice for online a Japanese translator to understand Japansese Home.

Games: Since you are Sony and you bring quality to every you build. The exclusives you do have you should make collector’s editions that will rival gold itself. God of War for example could have been so much more for 99 dollars. I was left with a plastic box that was sadly more empty than enjoyable.

    continuing…

  • Hmm I’ve seem to venture out to the west let me collect my thoughts…ideas!

For Rewards: Every new game you purchase you log it via bar code or serial number. The ammount of games you have in your collection will add up to A. More likely chance of being entered into sweepstakes B. More “Rewards Experience” towards (discounts free games free movies!)

As a Rewards Member: Once a month you can vote on the previous month which game should be cut to 50 percent off for PS+ memebers (Please Sony dont pick Walking the dog game over a AAA game this is what’s killing PS+ right now)

Rewards Member: Get free subscription to any of the selected Playstation Official Magazines <—I like this one.

  • Sony…if you have a heart, contact me before I leave on deployment. I do not want money not even a “hey would you like to come work for us” I just want to make Sony/Playstation better for the consumers and yourselves because in the end, it’s about making everybody happy.

In the future yes I would love to work side by side some of the geniuses there, but right now I’m serving my country in the United States Navy.

  • If I answer a survey a month, can I finally have cross-game chat? Hmmm? I don’t need avatars, I’m fine with what I’ve got, but the chat would be excellent.

  • Finally.

  • I like this idea, I’d also like the ability to link my gap status to my to be shown on my PS3 in some way.

  • All I have to say is come on, don’t leave out Canada!

  • It’ll be nice to get into this, if indeed I do get into this. I’ve been in the GAP for over 6 years, and have only gotten two beta invites: Killzone 1 and Jak X: Combat Racing. I still have both those Beta discs. When I had my independent game store, I had them displayed by the cash register near the Gamer Advisory Panel certificate that was sent to me when I joined.

  • Hmm,, does that mean a new batch of GaP invites?
I’m still waitin for mine.. since ’07 >.<

  • So no love for PS Underground members. I’m 43 years old and still actively game exclusively on the PS3. I never was offered a G.A.P. membership but was under the impression that Playstation Underground was/is THE membership to belong to if you were a Sony Playstation Stalwart. So what gives?

  • Hey Peter how about a statement if there are plans to release this feature in the EU ?

    • Hi Basilisk. Yes, we will be exploring opportunities internationally and this includes EU as the program evolves.

  • This is the dumbest thing ever. The most loyal, I laugh at this. You choose zombies who will buy whatever you have to sell. That’s not true loyalty. Loyalty comes from even those that criticize what is happening with the Playstation brand in order to improve it.

    • Hey Keyeszx,

The rewards program is launching with a feedback system and will continue to have a feedback system throughout its life, we are very much interested in listening and improving what we offer. It’s not just about giving out rewards, the program is also about creating a two-way conversation with our fans. Hope you will experience the program at some point and provide your feedback as well.

  • Im a litte confused.
I know that I had checked all the appropriate boxes ages ago.

but today when i went to check my Account Setting, the boxes were unchecked.
Not only that, but all other information I had added, game library etc, is no gone.

Was there a reset of this that I missed?

  • I have mixed feelings on this… While rewards are always a good thing for those receiving them–and make no mistake, I would love to receive them–things like this can also drive a wedge between users in the community.

Ever noticed the “uppity” nature of frequent posters and so-called “regs”? I worry that a program like this could encourage this kind of snooty attitude. Of course, that wouldn’t be Sony’s fault, but still… I just don’t know.

I vote neutral on this one.

  • Finally Sony shows some customer appreciation! I do like this idea a lot. I am currently a Sony Rewards customer on their regular site, so this is just a bonus. It’s always nice to get rewarded for the time and money spent on products you purchase by a certain company. And this is a way for the PS3 community to give their advice in surveys….hopefully this means that Sony is actually going to listen to what we have to say!!!
Good job Sony. Great idea so far. keep us the continued good work.

  • This sounds cool. I subscribed to Plus right away, but just opted into marketing now. Hopefully I’ll be able to see that forum you mentioned upthread so I can participate.

  • Canadian GAP member from waaaaay back, guess I’m SOL…

  • It is a cool idea however, seeing as it is based on ‘loyalty’, it would make more sense that PlayStation’s most loyal servants should beta test the service e.g. early adopters, not just the people who pay £40 per years because money isn’t loyalty.

  • Sorry Peter, you bay be Canadian but I don’t buy that. SCEA has a history of completely ignoring Canada because “It’s not our job, that’s SCEC’s job”.

SCEC then also ignores Canada because they are completely incompetent with their taking 2 years to get PSN cards out, 2 years for the video store, the total lack of contests etc.

Nobody at Sony(Either SCEA or SCEC) are willing to step up and fix the problem. Canadian PS3 owners have been complaining about it for almost 4 years now and nothing has changed.

    • Krae_man,

Sorry you feel that way. We take a partnership view with all regions and as you can imagine with different laws, regulations, and available resources in each country, it’s unfortunately not always the case where it is possible to launch programs simultaneously in all regions. Thanks for your patience, and remember, this is a Beta…

  • Bay be? God I can’t type in the morning:(

  • Going to e3 would be a life long dream looking forward to the new program

  • I’m not sure if I was opted into marketing…but I’m a PSN+ member and I’ve spent a ton of money on PSN downloadable games…does that count for anything?

  • As of Oct 24th., I wasn’t opted it. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t until I checked that accounts page even though I do get emails from Sony. I did opt in, today, Oct. 28th. so I’m hoping that I still have a chance to get in. Good luck to everyone else!

  • All I can say is that I better get in on this, I have been with Playstation since the PS1. I have received tons of letters in the mail and emails, I own 2 PS3’s 40+games and subscribed to qore and PS+ on day one. I didn’t know I had to Opt-in to something. You said PS+ subscribers before Oct 24th would get in. Well I checked the little link from one of your post and come to find out I’m not opted. I’ve never seen that page before and I have checked to receive everything since I first signed up on the PSN.

  • I’m not sure what I have to be opted in for qualifying. I do get regular playstation emails as well as the playstation store ones. However when I checked my account settings today it said for some reason that I wasn’t opted in even though I thought I was. I fixed that now but I don’t if it’s too late. I’m a plus subscriber and am really interested in this beta.

  • @345 — I had the same issue and received an official comment in #225. Supposedly, we’re good.

  • When do the invites get sent out? I haven’t gotten anything yet. Im PS+ and GAP. Pretty sure I am eligible cause I get surveys from sony all the time.

  • Now tell me this.

Last night I logged into my account online to see if I was opt in or not, and BOTH options were checked. Now I log in again and both are UN-checked!!! What the!!! I’m going to be quite upset if I don’t get in the beta. I’ve been a PSU and G.A.P. for 7+ years now, and I know for a fact that I was opt in for both options.

Why are they all of a sudden now UN checked?!?!?!?!

I even left a message on the G.A.P. forum last night after I checked, stating that I was in fact opt in.

    • Thanks for everyone’s help bringing this to our attention. Sorry for any confusion. Fear not, no one’s opt-in status was actually re-set. There was a temporary glitch (now fixed!) that made it appear as though people had been opted out.

The invite list was made based on people’s account settings as of a few days ago, on October 24. If you met the criteria before that date, nothing about the display glitch would have affected your selection for the beta.

If you meet the criteria but didn’t received your email invite, check the ps.com forum, PlayStation Rewards Private Beta:

      http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Rewards-Private-Beta/bd-p/psrewardsbeta

If you have access to this forum you’re eligible for the beta. Check the sticky post for instructions. You must accept the beta agreement by November 4 to continue to participate in the beta.

If you meet the criteria but don’t see the beta agreement after clicking the link in sticky post, please comment in this Blog post and we will look into the issue.

      Thanks!

  • I had all my stuff unchecked and blank too today after having everything filled in yesterday, I just fixed it. WTF?

  • Same here I just checked it, it was unchecked again, this is bogus!!
