Introducing PlayStation Rewards – A New Way to Earn Exclusive Status and Recognition

491 0

Today, we’re excited to share news of the launch of PlayStation Rewards, a new program that recognizes and rewards our users for simply doing what they love – playing games and interacting with the entertainment content that PlayStation has to offer. We really wanted to create something that says, “thank you” for being a loyal PlayStation fan.

PlayStation Rewards - Stacked

In its initial launch tomorrow (Oct. 28th), PlayStation Rewards will be an invitation-only beta to all eligible PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. We’re kicking things off as a beta so that we can get feedback from our most loyal fans in order to make it the best possible rewards program it can be. It’s also worth noting that during the beta phase, the program will be focused on PlayStation 3 owners, but we hope to include PSP users as well not too far down the road. Oh, and one more thing: PlayStation Rewards will be free – there is no fee to join!

Now, to give you a bit more details on the new loyalty program… PlayStation Rewards is designed to give you the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards as a thank you for your continued interest in PlayStation. And, the best part is that you don’t have to do anything different. Keep playing new games, buying content purchased from PlayStation Network in the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, download movies and TV shows, or just communicate with us by taking one of our surveys, for example, and you’ll now be recognized for it.

The more you play and participate, the more progress you’ll make through our three reward tiers — “Select,” “Pro,” and “Legendary.” As your status increases, so do the rewards. And if you want to check out your current status level, simply go to your private profile page and look at the reward progress meter.

So what do you get? Right now, rewards include things like…

  • Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
  • Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
  • Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)

PlayStation Rewards Homepage

That’s just the start and our plan is to continually grow and improve the reward offering as the program itself evolves. Your feedback in this beta period will help make the program even better!!

If you’re a GAP member or PlayStation Plus subscriber in the U.S., who is opted-in to marketing as of October 24th, be sure to look for your invitation and sign-up for PlayStation Rewards.

To learn more about our new loyalty program, check back tomorrow when the site will be live and the beta forum will be available for all eligible participants.

We look forward to showing you our appreciation along the way!

  • I’m in!!

Just tryed what #392 said and (after much trial and error with ps3 browser and forums website) i got in, agreed to agreement terms and updated my rewards preferences =)

  • Checked e-mail after that and had comfirmation e-mail waiting in inbox, welcoming me to the beta

  • THANK YOU! Got my invitation @ 12;47 AM EST & I signed up! Now I’ve got a few questions 4 u after I read the TOS. Now I hope you do check this Blog again, cause I feel my ?’s & fantastic idea needs to be heard..well read.. lol

Your permissions do not allow you access to this section.

1st , who wrote that, Yoda?? lol
I saw the heading under that menu last week, PSN BETA, and when i clicked on it, it had the same message I posted above.

To the Mods & Rewards Program People,
I look forward to seeing the Program unfolds. I have a few vital ?’s that were NOT answered/addressed in the FAQ’s.

Q-1. Is the Rewards Beta, also called the PSN BETA?
    Or
Q-2. Is the PSN Beta, something different? If so, what is it, and I want in!

I’m glad I checked my email now, instead of tomorrow, but this is really awesome, yet another Beta I’m in!! Thankfully, by playing all the other Beta’s I’m already in, the Rewards hopefully keep track of that as well. Hmmm… New question #3

    • The program terms have the heading, PlayStation Rewards Beta Agreement. Haven’t seen or heard of anything called PSN Beta.
Also, thanks for your idea at the end there.

  • Q.3 Does the PS Rewards Program keep track of the Beta Tests you participate in, be it currently in/or the ones you get into the future? Or No? Not yet?

*If not yet cause you “hadn’t thought about it yet”, sorry but your slacking, lol, I strongly urge you & recommend to your bosses, that IF someone like my self gets into a Beta Test for a PS3/PSP/PSN game program, that person should get some Bonus/Extra Stature Points added into his Meter.

    – Getting into a BETA test isn’t easy. Many now get into a Beta through PS+, some win codes, but not too long ago, getting into a Beta was HARDER, but it is STILL an honor and a privelage to be chosen for one.

Hence why that person needs to earn something extra. I think anyone in the Rewards program who do play in Beta tests, would agree with me 100%.

    Q.#5
In the TOS, it says this ends on March 31st, of 2011, does that mean that this Rewards Program will actually be released to the masses(if all goes well) April 1st, 2011??
    Or
Q.6 is the Rewards Program Beta, like how HOME is still on Beta?

Thanks and I await YOUR replies!

    • Hi Haskell420 – thanks again for the idea on beta testing contributing to progress in the program. Isn’t getting picked for a beta enough :)

As for the duration of the beta, I like the way you put 2 and 2 together. You should do well in this program. We want to learn as much as we can while in beta but are also very eager to open it up for everyone.

  • When I went to recheck my settings during 10/28, all of my settings had also reset. This may have been due to PSN Maintenance. However, I have received the beta invite. So no harm done, I guess.

  • So, when we’re getting the beta ? till now, nothing yet

  • Kinda ticked off it’s US only. Once again Canada gets the shaft. I’m in GAP and PSN+ too!

  • Will we get rewards for getting trophies?

  • I have a question. If i am a Gap member with this PSN ID. But i’m using another account for all my games, Is there a way i can change it? or should i return to this account?

  • Man!…i haven’t encountered any of those problems lol…lucky me ;)

  • Chris,
Thanks for replying to my 1st post, but I was alos hoping you would answer my next post, PT 2, where I asked other questions.

Regarding the PSN BETA. Chris, here is the LINK:

    http://psnbeta.us.playstation.com/

Go to the GAP section, or any other area where it shows up on the top of the page, shows our Member name, and says, “Hi Haskell420”

Now when you put your cursor over it, the menu opens up, and says Trophies, Account Settings, Friends, GAP, then 2nd to last on the menu, it says PSN BETA, then Sign Out.
When I click on PSN BETA, that is when the page refreshes, and says:
“Your permissions do not allow you access to this section.”

So go check it out, and get back to me on that, and my other uestions I posed in my 2ND post last night.

    • Hi Haskell420 – Thanks for clarifying. I know what that is. Some game betas use that PSN beta site to collect feedback from testers. They usually put a message of the day up there, a closed forum, a bug report, and maybe a survey. Not every game beta chooses to use that PSN beta site. But if they do, and you were invited to the beta, then you will be granted access after you’ve downloaded the beta.

Give me a bit to get to your other questions.

      Thanks

  • Ok im finally in, but it would be great if us.playstation.com was a ps3 browser friendly site. It would make things much faster and easier.

  • Boooo. I didn’t get an invite and I’m PS+ subcriber. /cry

  • Ok I registered after getting the e-mail and enrolled for the CES trip but I do not see any difference in my PSN id on PS3.
no extra avatars or anything and no knowledge how to gain “levels” in rewards program. The email and description were a little vague so is it something that will be more fleshed out and incorporated into the XMB and profile.

  • @413

Same here, I want my rewards. :(

  • Chris,
No problem and thanks for finding that info out about the PSN Beta. I’ve been in A LOT of Beta’s over the years, and I never noticed that PSN Beta before on that menu. Now if that DOES open up, so to speak, I’ll post about it.

    Haskell

  • I’ve mixed feelings on this, since it offers me close to nothing for being a GAP member since I don’t own a PS3 and essentially can’t until near the end of the system’s life.

Still, nice to see the next generation of GAP is coming. And it seems like a fit rebranding, makes it feel more part of the Playstation “family.”

  • I didnt get an invite either.

  • I’m still having problems with the Rewards program <_<
I got the email but it keeps saying "Access Denied" when I click the link. Called the Sony line, all said email them. But I got my response just to get an automated message of the stuff that's in the Knowledge Center.

    Uhhh any help?
    I'm in a infinite loop :/

  • This is preposterous! I am a PS Plus member but I didnt get an email, and when I tried to go on the forums, it denied my request! I am Canadian Born but I am living in America (PSN Account american too)

  • BS! never got an email. Been on ps+ since the begining

  • @421
I joined once the AC Beta was announced. That is what made me feel like PS+ was worth it.

  • what happened to my invite !!!? i have been a plus member from day one ! well no big deal ! it’s probably BS like the plus anyway !! keep it !!!!!

  • I think anyone who bought a PS3 in the first place should be in the rewards program. lol

But I’ve been loyal since Playstation 1 era so I’m proud to be part of it.

    I want a Killzone 3 beta invite though Seriously…..

  • Just curious about the program… will the games i have purchased and registered be counted? What about 3rd party game not just SECA games being counted? Will all previous add-ons and DLC content count as well? I am a loyal PS3 owner and so is my wife, together we have over 100+ PS3 titles. We get just about every game Playstation puts out. We also go the MOVE the day it came out. So will those count towards my rewards (by the way the wife did not get the rewards beta invite.

  • Oh and we are also Playstation Plus subscribers.

  • Just in case anyone else wants to know… I talked to a sony rep today. They have limited info on the Rewards program but they told me that it doesn’t really kick off until monday(Nov 1) or tuesday (Nov 2). Thats when we will see our levels going up. So anyone that got an invite and can’t accept it, give them a call on monday or tuesday. Hopefully that helps and good luck.

  • when do we get the free stuff?

  • oh ok 427.. that makes sense… lol cos when you check your progress there is no way to see where you are starting at

  • So Cool, i cant wait it for :)
    Greets from Vienna :)

    P.s.: I LOVE THE STATES ;)

  • Any chance of this rewards system heading over to jolly olde England? It looks fantastic!

  • From what has been previously stated about the beta right now is it’s only the U.S. and Canada that has access. Even now some U.S. and Cannadian beta testers are having troubles with the invites. Probably after the Rewards beta is through its testing phase and fine tuned from all the feedback that it would be released worldwide. Don’t quote me on that its just my guess. Also this is something new just like the rewards program (UPlay) from Ubisoft. Even today UPlay is still not 100% up and running. But you should call or email your local sony rep to find out more info in your area. Also keep up on this blog and playstation.com for more info. You gotta keep yourself informed.

  • Thanks for the reply Peter. I just wish everyone involved would quit making excuses and fix the problem.

  • Hey Chris,

While going through this blog you stated your leveling up would not be retro-active. Why not? Myself and probably everyone else here have bought many titles and DLC’s prior to this program. Is it because it would take too long to go back that far and see the activity or is it because the activity hasn’t been recorded until now. Also When I talked to a sony rep on saturday night he stated that the launch wouldn’t really happen until monday (nov 1) or tuesday (nov 2). Since I joined the Rewards Beta program (I joined the second I got the invite) will the DLC I bought after joing count towards my ranking?

  • pretty ingenious idea really , given the things some people will do to earn plats … add a reward system to purchases and KA CHING !!! you have tapped straight into the competitive nature of some of the most hardcore good idea .

  • I am hoping that there will be a way to track individual progress that goes more in depth then just the bar. and also how long does it take to show the rewards you’ve earned after you have purchased something or played a game? I have played 2 new games today and nothing.

I was also thinking that there could be a notation on all things you buy showing how much points you earn for that item in the psn.

  • I am hoping for ps3 web browser update so i can view my rewards progress. Also to view just about everything else on us.playstation.com. It is playstation.com right?

  • I received an invitation to the PlayStation Rewards beta program on Friday, Oct. 29th and signed up to take part. After logging in I received the following message “PLEASE NOTE: While we verify your new email address, your PlayStation®Rewards page is temporarily unavailable. Please allow at least 48 hours for your account to be reinstated. Thank you. ” However, it has been nearly 96 hours and the message still appears and I still cannot access my PlayStation Rewards page. Here is a screen-capture of the exact screen I am receiving – with my PSN ID listed at the top of the page: http://i53.tinypic.com/k9bdhx.jpg

    It’s been nearly 96 hours!!!

  • I’m getting sick of the racism guys, I’ve played over 116 games on my PS3, I’ve spent thousands of dollars, and i’m told your only doing it in the US? and maybe canada? what about us Australians? Are we not good enough in your eyes? We pay over $100 US for your games! we pay the most in the WORLD for your games, and you treat us like this? I’m getting sick of it.

Just like the free games you gave to the US a few years back, just like netflix.

  • I have the same problem as #438 i changed my email and two days later nothing

  • i have PS Plus, i play and buy TONS of content. i am in Home, but still no invite :(

  • I can’t see my rewards status. What’s going on?

    http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/892/image3zvo.jpg

  • hello everyone !! i have a question , i cannot access my turkey costume in playstation home that i earned last year and i looked in my menu in playstation home and it shows it under rewards and it also show a few resident evil 5 items and others but like i said i cannot access them ….. the turkey outfit used to show up in my wardrobe if i remember correctly !! i would like some kind of answer on how to obtain my items ? thank you PEACE

  • does anyone ever answer theses questions or WHAT ??

  • Umm… stupid question but if u don’t have playstation plus, and u buy it later will u still be able to join playstation rewards?

  • Its just a beta right now and the beta testers have already been selected from the playstion plus list. When this goes live you will be able to get it, wether or not you have a playstation plus subscription((US only is what I’m told from the sony hotline. From the sony support hotline they stated the same. Also if you rewards bar doesn;t go up when you play a new game on your system, don’t fret because it could take up to two weeks to post on the playstation rewards site. Where is chris to answer these questions besides me.

  • I would really like to join the Playstation Rewards Program. Please and thank you.

  • Okay, I’m now apart of playstation rewards! Ummm… what do i do? what is this? I am sooo lost. I sign in but I can’t contribute. Will someone tell me how I can contribute? I have read what its about so there is no need to explain the benefits. I just need to know how I get them or what I do to contribute or what I click on. lol im so lost….

  • @surfhelast1

You don’t need to do anything. Once you signed up, just keep playing games. Buying things from the PSN video/game store, Home, and just playing games in general will advance your level.

I am already on Select and 25% bar to Pro. I do buy and play a lot of games, so depending on your PS3 usage, it might take you longer.

So far I have gotten like 5 Free avatars, a couple Home items, and free dynamic theme.

  • Hey i need help i got invited but im confused on you to say yes i want to join i dont understand the mesage some one help me asap
