Bluetooth Headset

Hi Everyone! Back in 2008, we unveiled the official Bluetooth Headset for the PlayStation 3. Since then, many of you added it to your arsenal of PS3 must-haves. Today we’re excited to announce a new version of the official Bluetooth Headset for the PS3 system. It will be available at retailers near you this month at the same price ($49.99 MSRP) as the earlier version of this headset.

Bluetooth Headset

The new Bluetooth Headset for the PS3 offers the same unparalleled gaming experience as the previous model, making it a must have for intense online multiplayer games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, MAG or the highly anticipated sci-fi shooter, Killzone 3. It offers a dual-microphone design, automatic pairing via USB cable with the PS3**, in-game headset status indicator**, an easily accessible microphone mute button, and a charging cradle which also functions as a desktop microphone**. On top of all of that, it’s the only device to offer High-Quality (HQ) mode** which delivers crystal clear voice chat while gaming on the PS3.

So what’s different, you ask? New features include a redesign, making it sleeker, high-gloss and more compact – 30% smaller than the original model. In addition, the Bluetooth Headset now has built-in noise cancellation for filtering out ambient noise when used with the PS3 system as well as your mobile phone. Gadget fiends take note – the new Bluetooth Headset isn’t just for gaming. The improved mobile phone feature support allows you to use features such as three-way calling and call waiting. And with nearly six hours of talk time, you can easily take the Bluetooth Headset with you straight from the living room to the streets.

The new Bluetooth Headset is compatible with devices with Bluetooth 1.1 or higher, and is ideal for gamers, technophiles and anyone in the market for multi-use Bluetooth Headset. Enjoy!

** This feature requires a PS3 system and PS3 system software version 3.50 or later.

  • Hope it doesn’t hurt my ear like the other one.

  • Bundle this with a console so more people have headsets on the PSN!

  • Does it still beep when on mute?

  • DO WANT!!

  • I can’t wait to buy the new version headset. Good job Sony on the re-design. The old version was uncomfortable.

  • How does the in game indicator work? anyone know from the first version ones?

  • I see Im not the only one who realized the previous mic was a totally unusable dog of a device. I’d have to hear this one in use lots before I’d even consider it. the last one was so quiet & heavily distorted it was actually an annoyance. That combined with jerks playing music on it in games & kids screaming racist vulgarities at everyone I keep everyone muted in game anyways.

  • FINALLY, the first one was a piece of crap. hope this one is more comfortable to wear

  • i actually like the first official headset. i also have a couple i had for cell phones and a usb ps2 socom headset with the mute button. i might upgrade if it came in a bundle.

  • Dealextreme sold one pretty cool for only $13.70!!! http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.47603

  • That is one sexy headset.

I might pick this one up. I’m using my Sony Ericsson clip-on headset right now, and it’s a good mic for chat, but it picks up almost every sound in the room. I’ve had people online chatting to my cat because his meows were being picked up so easily by the mic.

I’m hoping this mic’s noise cancellation includes meow cancellation.

Also, I hope the earpiece is a little gentler on the ears. The main reason I have my SE headset is because you can change the headphones to more comfortable ones

  • looking foward to this quick question, i notice the light is blue, can you clarify what is the other color like you did when the other ps headset cameout plz and thanks

  • Sweeeeet! Looks good!

One thing I would love to see is simultaneous dual-pairing functionality, similar to the Turtle Beach Ear Force PBT. Now, THAT would be perfect! Firmware update perhaps? I know you guys can make it happen… :D

  • is it still gonna overcharge and die within a week like my first two ps3 bluetooth headsets!!!! the model i have now does not overcharge and cost less!!!!!!!!!!!

  • But is it more comfortable? The current one feels like a doctors utensil

  • Tempting…I do hate the headset that came with Warhawk.

  • Bundle this with consoles at least have a standard on PSN.

  • Anand, Dan and I had fun testing the original headset for you over a year ago, but this is the headset that we wanted that whole time! I told you I liked the comfort and smaller design of the Plantronics headset you supplied for feature testing. And I told you what everyone on the SOCOM team thought of the original design.

So thank you for taking over a year to listen to your colleagues. I’ll be looking forward to checking this one out.

  • i see you still using the big earpiece that hurt the ears.. do you guys think we’re elephants?

that earpiece should be a lot smaller.. the only important piece and they mess it up.. ugh..

  • looks nice

  • Looks very nice. Might get if I didn’t already have a desktop microphone solution to my in-game chatting needs.

  • aww man, I just got the Orig PS3 Headset – which works wonderful!

  • I have been using my Motorola Bluetooth for last year or so How well does the PS3 Bluetooth compare to a normal Bluetooth such as my Motorola this will give me an idea on if should get this new PS3 one because I have been thinking about getting the Turtlebeach p21 or tbs2133. But hate the idea of a cord

  • Please, Please, make it so when you push the Mute button, it does not “beep” in your ear every few seconds…. its so hard to use the current one with rockband 3, then mute it for when you are playing, then unmute it back into the menus.. the beeps are terrible…

  • well this new one looks nice except for the peice that goes around your ear, it looks like some cheap plastic and i hate those. and the fact that it looks like that peice snaps on to the earbud doesnt look like itll last very long and can break easy. i loved the old one so i guess ill go buy a couple of those on sale. why not just keep the old one and drop the price instead of making a new one to keep the same price, more people would buy them. bluetooth headsets are too expensive these days…

  • While I like noise cancellation, the deal-breaker for me is if it beeps while it’s put on mute. I hate that my current PS3 mic does that.

  • looks like im upgrading my blutooth. about time they did this the older one was annoying the crap out of me. from the look of the ear thing it will be way more confortable plus the hq thing sold me on it.

  • definitely buying it

  • Will I be able to use this with the Playstation Phone?

  • I can’t stand the beeps while muted either. I’d definitely consider this one if it doesn’t beep while muted. So annoying.

  • hopefully this time you will bundle it with games like COD: Blackops or KZ3

  • Its damn sexy! However, the original has about 8 hours of talk time…. this one has 6? Typo maybe?

  • Very awesome! My old one broke, when people talk they sound like robots… and I see there is no little rubber piece, which is awesome! I lost mine before.

And I hope its more comfortable, the last one hurt my ear after an hour or so of it being in.

  • Isn’t it ironic how the new headset redesign is shiny while the new PS3 Slim is “cheap” looking matte black and the original headset(which I bought alongside the SOCOM game I use as a coaster) was matte black while the original PS3 was sleek shiny black?

  • people ur better off spending a bit more coin on usb headsets like turtle beaches which work beautifully, gotta say tho i got the first bluetooth with socom and it work very good up until i got some turtle beaches.

  • Im not buying this. I have a perfectly good wired PS3 headset that doesnt need a charge and has a 6 ft cable so I can walk all the way around my room. Im buying mostly the awesome games and not the awesome accessories.

  • In, my opinion the first one looks better, but this one looks comfy

  • A nice bluetooth headset but still no cross game chat or partychat to use it for.. silly sony when will u learn..

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! COULDN”T you have announced this a couple monthes ago!! I just bought the ps3 headset back in september! And I certainly hope they do not make a new version of the keyboard too! I bought that too! Is there anyway if you bought one in the last 2 months that you can trade it in for the new headset???

Please answer my question PS Blog staff.

    Thanks,

    Kabirdsall

  • I Hope you guys fixed the ear piece… cause having 2 different size pieces available for bad…
I lost the piece that fit my ear nicely and have the use the bigger one and it hurts so much when I play. I barely ever use my mic anyone… so I may just just buy this one if they’ve fixed that issue.

  • i loved the previous model
will upgrade this one looks a lot better

  • Sony You give us cross game/ private chat and Ill sell my old mic and pick this one up… DEAL?

  • nice ya era hora, tengo lo nuevo .

  • I hope its more comfortable than the old one, :) the old one hurts my ear, so I tend to not use it unless I absolutely need to. but thats mostly ok since The Stig isn’t supposed to talk anyways lol. But I am definately buying one! :D

  • Is this one going to be more comfortable or offer different sizes for the rubber ear piece? The old headset destroys my ear after 30 mins of use…

  • At least lower the 1st generation PS3 mic’s price.

  • if only i had the money :(

  • Can’t wait to upgrade.
