  • The Fetish You have for Sweet Tooth, does this stem from some childhood trauma? Was ice cream used on you in some inappropriate way, or is it your own deviant strangeness that craves it? Have you ever applied ice cream to any other part of your body??

Ok, Does that count as a strange out there question? ;)

I am creeped out, and I asked the question… :)

  • Oh ya David.. I forgot to wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year :)

My comment was number 200.. and now it’s 216 for some reason.. :D anyway, thanks again for scoring me those marks in college!

Day 1 purchase of TM ps3!!

P.S. If I happen to win the figurine.. OF COURSE I’D WANT IT SIGNED! it would be an honor to have you and the dev team’s names on it!

  • I want to see some awesome video of the clown’s flamehead. :D

  • I cannot wait for this game the original Twisted Metal was so much fun back in the day, my friends and I would get together and just play against each other for hours on end, laughing maniacally as we blew each other up, I am hoping that with the release of the new game it brings us back together online for the same fun we had all those years ago as nowadays we are all over the place. Keep up the great work guys, I can’t wait to get my hands on this game.

  • Being a UK fan I hope the new game does amazingly well over here.

I hate to be a pessimist but I don’t think it will.

It’s a sad fact that the UK magazines and sites just aren’t covering it very well.

I picked up several PLAY mags in the last 6 months and not ONE single issue had the game on the cover or even on the back.

If David reads this post he might remember this magazine as being one he did an interview with back in late 2008.

It was more of a general interview but he gave one or two hints even then that TM might be back.

PLAY magazine made it clear that they thought of the earlier games very highly (with a special retro review of TMB in that issue as well).

Mind you the same publication gave TMHO %54…

But anyway, this mag and even the official UK PS mag just aren’t exactly making cover stories of this game which is sad as even TMB had some cover focus in earlier PS2 magazines.

I think it’s getting to late in the day for the UK mags to be covering the game better so the opportunity might have passed as well.

It would be great if ESP (and more to the point SCEA) had any influence over the official UK magazine at least as it’d be nice to see even a cover mention of Twisted Metal.

  • Will this game support the custom soundtrack feature? I’ve noticed more and more games coming out that let users listen to their own music instead of the soundtrack. I know a lot of people would love slaying people online while listening to their own music, but I actually hope you don’t let them.
If you guys put that feature into the game, I personally would never use it. I’m really surprised seeing so many gamers using their own music instead of the soundtrack. Music, along with artistic visuals, helps create a sense of immersion for the player, especially in a single player campaign. The atmosphere of a game relies so much on music to set its tone, so why cut that out? There isn’t one game that can stand on visuals alone and with more and more games letting players use their own music, I’m afraid developers aren’t as concerned with music.
It just bothers me that game developers are letting players cut out half of the atmosphere and mood of a game. I’m all for giving players freedom, but not when it changes such a large part of a game’s experience. Just my two cents on custom soundtracks. The game looks great and I wish you and the team the best of luck. Happy holidays!

  • what happens if you hit a helicopter with a flaminng chainsaw??

  • I like Twisted Metal but I can’t say I was ever hooked on it like other games. The main reason is probably because the maps always felt a little bit small, or rather you had to do a u-turn a bit too many times. I think one of the big reasons for that was because my target/goal/objective was a moving vehicle so to me it felt very clumsy if one of us miss the first time, in which case both would do a u-turn and move towards each other again and often miss again and repeat the process. It felt very awkward.

I’m hoping that the bigger maps shown so far and the more objective based mode like Nuke will be more helpful. I also think the idea of a more primitive capture the flag is better too. Nuke seemed a little bit too deep. I really hope you have a few more of these modes. I have plenty of them in mind but I know you (Jaffe) don’t want us to post our ideas, so I’ll refrain from it.

  • David Jaffe you are one of the greatest developers out there always connecting with the fans trying to make your game a great experience for us and its never a let down.cant wait to try this new one out and see the bosses =]

  • Twisted Metal was THE reason I became a loyal fan of Playstation. I remember my cousin visting for the holiday with his new console. When I saw that you could crash cars into each other, shoot machine guns and missles, ramp off of rooftops, and all the while jamming out to some kickass metal music, I HAD to have it!

It had everything: style, humor, music. I used to play for hours on end. I would pop Twisted Metal 2 into my CD player to listen to the soundtrack. I also always had to find Santa in the Antarctica stage to run his ass over!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Black was released and was a major motivator in my purchase of a PS2. I loved the darker themes, even more twisted characters, and melancholy environments. If there were trophies back then, I would have gotten the platinum several times over.

Twisted Metal will forever hold a special place in my heart. I still play those games often. No other game or series for me has ever come close to being as badass (well, maybe Rogue Trip). I know the new Twisted Metal will deliver on every aspect and I can’t wait to lose sleep, friends, and sex for it.

Thanks for bringing it back and answering some questions David. Hope you have an awesome holiday!

  • Please let us have the option to “join game” and “invite to game” from XMB !!!

  • Awesome!

  • Dear Jaff’n’Co:

About the T rating we’re going to see on the new Twisted Metal game -debates that take place on forums circle around the notion that cutscenes are what garner the M rating. I believe it and it matters none to me.

Some classic fans of the series may be disappointed about this direction, I’m a fan enough to not be phased.

Part of me is bummed that we live in a culture which creates “sacrificed” ideas when making a piece of performance art all-encompassing and inviting to the majority. Interactive or not.

Maybe videos via PSN, rated M, can help snuff this spark before it is truly stoked (which I far from hope for because I want this series to succeed with this game and every other one after:)

P.S.: Jaff’: you were seriously envious of the God of War 3 Slurpee cups (and custom Kratos Fury slurpee flavor! WTF?FTW!!!)(re: GameDirector roundtable PSN video- awesome BTW!)

    P L E A S E make this happen with the new TWIST3D M3TAL! do whatever YOU MUST:

I wanna taste Sweet Tooth’s Slushy Sauce! Slurping it through a lenticular Sweet Tooth cup (and other characters as well)!

Thanks to you and your group of hardworking folks!

    – John

  • PLEASE MAKE KRATOS PLAYABLE IN TWISTED METAL PLEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Will there at some point be a collection of previous Twisted Metals re-released? I never owned a playstation before now, but I love the series.

Also, will it be possible to use the move controller when having a 2nd player in your car that uses guns? Like the sniper rifle.

  • I was late getting into the twisted metal series. I remember playing Twisted Metal Black at a friends’ house and I was hooked. Went out and bought it the next day. I spent many hours unlocking all of the videos to see how the characters’ stories meshed together. The reward at the end was to hear an awesome song (Rolling Stones “Paint it Black” which to this day still listen to and brings me back to the first moments of playing Twisted Metal. The gameplay was like no other which I am hoping the new Twisted Metal feels like for me. Day one purchase and no doubt I will get my wife hooked as well. Twisted Metal rocks!

  • Hello David Jaffe, I was wondering if we will ever see Sweet Tooth’s real face (I mean without his mask on!) or at least part of it. Because that would just be plain awesome!

  • I just wanted to say that I think it was awesome that you included “Twisted Metal Lost” into the TM Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition as a tribute to the 6 key developers who passed on.

I share your loss, but at least through that Twisted Metal Lost game, they will always be forever remembered.

Happy holidays to all at Twisted Metal

    Peace out,
    BikerSaint

  • When can we have a spin-off Sweet Tooth game?

  • Can you please do a HD remake of Twisted Metal 2 and add online play. Do what Call of Duty did by remaking a classic! I am sure plenty of people would pay for that. You have such a following of HARDCORE TM2 fans that actually play the crappy PC Version daily online. There will be no other TM that will have the same effect on people. I am definitely going to buy the new TM but WE will never be happy until TM2 is redone. Call it Twisted Metal Classic, update the graphics, throw in some vehicles/characters from other versions, slap a $20 price tag on that MOFO, and call it a day!

    My 2 pennies…

  • Have you guys put awesome easter eggs that connect to different games? I loved the fact that Twisted Metal 2 had a Jet Moto track on it. If I somehow do win this, is it even possible for a Canadian to get it? A signed copy would be nice :P

  • I remember playing the first Twisted Metal when I was in middle school. The most memorable story was using Darkside and ramming Mr. Grimm to death so easily. Lol, its even funnier because the player you’re crushing is right next to you.

I’d really like a custom soundtrack option. It’s not a racing game but I’d REALLY appreciate the option.

  • Sweet Tooth is by far my favorite character ever in any game I have played. I like him because he seems to play off the innocence of an ice cream truck while being a psychopathic killer, all in all i love Twisted Metal for Sweet Tooth

  • My mom never allowed me to buy ice cream from the ice cream trucks passing by in my neighborhood. She said they were drug dealers in secret. I’m sure Sweet Tooth isn’t but I can see why she was so paranoid about them though.

  • I’ve been a huge Twisted Metal since Day 1 going to the PS1 days. That’s all I ever played and still own EVERY Twisted Metal since then. I cannot wait to play this on PS3!!! As soon it’s available to pre-order I am totally there. If theres a Collectors Edition I will buy it.

  • First of all i want to say that the TM Series has inspired me to become a video game designer and at one point a Funeral Directer. as you can tell from my username that Shadow is my favorite Character.

So my Questions are: if i used Mr.Grimm in Story mode and i have to fight six enemies two are Sweet Tooth & Dollface, but what about the other four? are they members of the other Factions or not?

second are you & ESP ever plan on releasing more TM Figures? i would love to have a Raven or Mortimer Figure on my desk.

  • Ten minutes of any scrap of news is music to my ears.

Been playing Twisted Metal since the second was released and this series really got me into gaming. The easy pick up and play gameplay is what had me hooked when I was young while the time spent improving strategies and skills keeps me playing the series today. I sincerely hope that the new game will be exactly the same or at least similar.

My question is related to he soundtrack, can we expect orchestral pieces or songs from groups and artists like Levels Disaster Proof in Head On?
To be honest I loved the song but it didnt seem to fit in with the universe and the game. I know people will probably say “But what about Paint It Black!” That’s my only exception since it worked so damn well in TM: Black.

Also, bring back Mr. Slams vehicle, he’s always been my favorite.

  • Always have loved the Twisted Metal Series since the very first on the original ps system. And have loved the other titles on the ps and ps2, too. So, my question is: Will the new TM have an online feature? One of my current favorite games on ps3 is Burnout Paradise. So, I’m really hoping the new TM will blow this out of the park…Really looking forward to crunching up Sweet Tooth again. Thanks. BTW… make my figure signed please. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

  • Twisted Metal was THE multiplayer game back in the PSone days. Every character was awesome and played to the best of their strengths. One of the most memorable things is all the breakable objects in the stages and buildings crumbling down.

Every match was a great show, even if you lost you had a great time! That for me it’s a very important aspect of Twisted Metal. It’s was not like these FPS of today where the action gets monotonous just running around getting killed by one hit on the back from some camper. Please keep it balanced and allow the matches to be very customizable.

  • I have been playing games since the 80’s and I have to be franc cause I’ve never had the chance to try out Twisted Metal on PSone but a very good friend of mine gave me great echoes about it.

Now I’m a potential new fan of the serie with the new one on PS3, The graphics and the atmosphere are kinda cool and I loved the trailer you guys showed during E3 with the taxi driver. I felt I was really missing something. However, after the gameplay you guys have been showing lately, I had a feeling that you guys are building Twisted Metal essentially for its online experience and I am not a big fan of online gaming. This vidicle made all my questions answered and makes me very impatient to try out the single player campain of Twisted Metal. Thank you ESP for what you are giving the fan and thank you David Jaffe for your hardwork and I love the fact that you are sharing informations with the fans like this, it proves that you are very passionate and open to all remarks. It also shows that the game will get a great treatment after sale with a lot of content based on what we fans want..

Happy holiday for everybody and God Bless!

  • ahhh the great twisted metal!! how many times did i curse that axel guy and just run off scared from the insane cool sweet tooth. I’ve really enjoy the story from each character in TMBlack and i can’t wait to play this new twisted metal. Keep doing your awesome work guys!

  • I bought Twisted Metal 3 before I even bought a PS1. I held on to it and read everything in the inlay and the boxart and absorbed every letter before I finally got a PS1 as a gift from my parents. Purists might hate me for this but Twisted Metal 3 is my favourite Twisted Metal of all time, not because I don’t appreciate the other titles but because it was the first one I played on my console. I have barely played Twisted Metal 2 but I did own every single Twisted Metal game out there.

As a teenage gamer, I never cared about the politics or which team designed the game or how unoriginal it is. I think 989 Studios did a brilliant job on TM3 and TM4 (TM4 was a very ambitious game with a lot of customizations and options and homage). I also loved TM3 for the hardrocking soundtrack with songs by Rob Zombie and more. The first level of TM3 i.e. Hollywood is one of my favorite levels of all time, with Rob Zombie’s Superbeast bringing that level to life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpN2349wAjU

I wish TM3 makes it to PSN for I would buy the heck outta that game!

  • Hi David Merry X-Mas! will there be?

    a) Mr. Slam
    b) A story like Black’s
    c) A Kratos hidden character in a Charriot
    d) Driving Force GT or any Wheel Support.
    e) Character, car or level customization.

    Cheers

  • I am really thankful for the guys at Eat Sleep Play. More than any studio I can think of ever they have been in it since day one for the fans.
They understand they are in a business and that profit is always a major concern, but within that constraint, everything else is related to what the fans want and what is fair for the users. The best part is articles and blogs just like this where they’re willing to tell you the process and thoughts that go into the game’s tough decisions.
I (and many other fans) appreciate how they’re willing to set up panels at Con’s and scour the videogame forums to hear what we want. It’s this kind of dedication that will set them apart from the ones that are just in it for the cash.
Some people claim Jaffe is just in it for himself, but I can’t disagree more. He always refers to the “team” and “we”, never “I”.
He is a more well known person in the industry, and I think his image is used as the face of ESP because of that. It means that more people will read about TM, will ask questions like these, and more fan feedback means a better end product.
Keep up the good work guys!

  • here is a a great suggestion from a fan of the series, and gaming as a whole. PLEASE OH PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE MULTIPLAYER TROPHIES! some developers just never take the time to stop and think about how some people would rather not touch the multiplayer of certain games.(don’t ask me why not with twisted metal, but you get the idea)all of the trophies should be campaign focused. if you do dlc, and i imagine you will, then feel free to add a boat load of multiplayer trophies. i would appreciate it much if you took this suggestion into account. many will play the multiplayer. don’t be in fear that trophies must be added to keep a community. twisted metal has always had a nice following.

  • I started playing Twisted Metal 1 with friends when I was younger and we would play all night. What was interesting to me was that the game was so fun with only two human players.

Years back I was visiting my family on the east coast and was locked up in a house in over 100 degree weather and no air conditioning. I had my ps2 with me and picked up Twisted Metal black. This game saved me from extreme boredom and I really got lost in the world and characters. I wasn’t expecting a car combat game to pull me into the story as much as this game did but I was hooked instantly. I couldn’t wait to replay the game over and over to find out what happens at the end to these characters. It was great because each car had a different feel and weapons to them so replaying was actually fun and not monotonous.

I don’t have a psp so admittedly have not played the last Twisted Metal but the new game will be a day one purchase for me and I can’t wait to get lost in the story again like I did years ago. Bring on Twisted Metal!

  • I never owned a PlayStation until the PlayStation 3 so I never got to play any of the Twisted Metal games. Would you recommend this upcoming Twisted Metal game as a start into the series or should I go back and play the previous games to understand what it’s all about?

  • I remember Twisted Metal being one of my first five video games when I bought a PSX. It brings back such great memories. Anyway I’m just glad you guys are bringing the series back 10 years later after Twisted Metal Black. I never bought the PSP, because I am still waiting for that 2nd analog stick soon to be revealed officially.

  • Great Video, thank you for answering those questions Mr. Jaffe.

So, Twisted Metal, this is one of the first games I played on PS1, I remember when me and my bro. went to the store a week after we got our Playstation and I immediately noticed Twisted Metal thanks to it’s awesome Cover Art, Me and my bro. played it for hours, we used play it with our friends, plan competitions and so on, so yeah, after that I bought all of other Twisted Metal games that came out, but after the 2nd one somehow we didn’t play it the same way like the first two, but now, when I heard about the new one, after all these years I told my bro. and we are so excited about it, we want this game so bad, we’re waiting for the release date. Thank you for not abandoning TM fans and really putting effort in these series, I wish you all at TM Team Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    – Guram

  • Do you think we can expect to see Kratos appear in a car (or chariot lol) ramming and shooting people? Also Kratos in Mortal Kombat you the man David.

  • I’d like to suggest that going forward, Eat Sleep Play build in as much accessibility and customization into their games. Things like:

    Button remapping
    simplified/one-hand play mode
    keyboard/mouse support
    subtitles
    toggle gauges/meters to on/off/big
    custom soundtracks
standard and innovative eye/move support (flaming chainsaw, slash movement…yes please)

The theme of people using the game to connect with other people is common in the comments. These accessibility features should be fundamental to any game because they give us ways to integrate the game more fully into our lives and differing playing requirements. It’s like the American with disabilities act. I may not need ramps/elevators, but I still benefit from them when I’m riding a bike, using a dolly, injured my foot.

Developers can never fully predict how gamers will use their creations so why not give us more options to control and create within your game, making it much more likely we’ll continue to play for many years.

  • Hey DJ, I hope you don’t get tired of reading comments before you see mine. I just really wanna congratulate you and the team for pouring out your hearts to make such a game, and additionally how you guys look towards the fans for suggestions. I’ve never played a TM game before, but goddamn I’ll be getting this day-one(if I got the cash to spare). Oh, and be-sure to release a collector’s edition, c’mon its been years since a TM game was on consoles, DO IT! Good luck and godspeed Eat Sleep Play!

  • Would you buy ice cream from Sweet Tooth if he rolled down your block?

  • My sister and I don’t have a lot in common so we didn’t play together or hang out much growing up. I spent a good deal of time playing video games and she doesn’t even like them as a rule of thumb. But there are a rare few games she has played with me. Twisted Metal is one of the few. The controls are straight forward, and she doesn’t get vertigo as she does with an FPS. But most importantly it can be same team co-op. Since I played games more often I was simply better and it wasn’t fun if I could easily beat her, or let her win.

When we played Twisted metal for the first it was amazing! My sister was always Spectre or Outlaw and I loved Axel!! Hours were spent playing each level over and over again for years. We at some point grew up I suppose and we seldom see each other anymore. We don’t game together anymore simply because we live to far apart to play the “classics” and there is no game that has online co-op that would warrant a purchase of a PS3 for her.

I must say this game may be THE game that gets us gaming together again. I haven’t told her this game is in development so when it comes out I can surprise her. So it better not suck! :)

  • Include Dogs in multilayer as one of the attack weapons! maybe even your new poppy.

I hope I get that action figure by next year!

  • David, will you adopt me?

I can do my own dishes and laundry.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Worse Twisted Metal is Black. (In my opinion) And the series is getting so repetitive. We need some new flavor. With that said I’m looking forward to how the helicopters feel. How will the ground vehicles aim at the flying vehicles? In all the previous installments, the direction you were facing is the direction you shoot. (Except with homing projectiles of course.) Will we have to get on sloped surfaces or will they have separate game modes for them? BTW Best Twisted Metal is… 3. I lived on that and still own the original copy I’ve had all these years. That and mortal kombat trilogy. My only 2 psx games. I fiend over Twisted Metal and Mortal Kombat.

  • My brother is so happy that Twisted Metal is coming to PS3, that he actually bought a PS3 just for this. Me and him have been long time fans of the series and grew up playing two player world tour and versus mode for hours. This is also the game that got us into buying a Playstation 1 and the first game that we ever played on PS1. If it weren’t for Twisted Metal, I probably would of never purchased a PS1. This game changed my life and made me love the car combat generation back in the late 1990’s.

  • I’ve never played Twisted Metal because I never owned a PS1 but now it is a must have game for my PS3.
