The Drop: Week of Jan 3rd 2011 New Releases

142 5

Greetings from the future! Welcome back PlayStation fans, I hope you’re sporting your aluminum foil hats and gloves as you brace yourself for what is going to be a spectacular year in PlayStation gaming history. I kid you not, I’ve traveled into the future and have witnessed a world where PlayStation Move light posts tower over PS3 paved streets and walkways. People commute in DualShock shaped cars and Kratos has become a popular name among new born babies.

The-Drop-Main-Header

But before we all welcome our new found PlayStation overlords, let’s rewind to the present day and check out this year’s very first “The Drop” for 2011. Make it quick though, I need to replace the left trigger, right analog stick and get a quick oil change on the old girl.

PSN: Tetris

PlayStation Network

Tetris — Millions of players worldwide on Sony PlayStation 3 systems will now have the opportunity to download and play the game with crisp 1080p high-definition (HD) graphics, high-quality 5.1 surround sound audio, and all-new ways to play including online against other Tetris players from around the globe. The Tetris game is one of the best-selling games of all time, with more than 100 million paid mobile downloads.

(PS Blog Coverage: Tetris for PSN in 1080p and 5.1, Gets PS3-Exclusive Multiplayer)

Microbot — MicroHexon Research has invented a transformative medical technology: autonomous nanotech machines that are no larger than a blood cell. When injected into the body they target and eliminate diseases at the cellular level. However, something has gone dangerously awry. The nanomachines have bonded to the diseased cells and are now multiplying inside the body at an exponential rate. Piloting a new prototype MicroBot, players must seek and destroy the infection before it consumes the human host from the inside.

Richochet — Ricochet is a “Ball-and-paddle” game in the longstanding tradition of Breakout or, for a more accurate comparison, Arkanoid. You’re a participant in the intergalactic Ricochet Championship. You must bust through 40 different arrangements of bricks in four different arenas, builiding up the highest score to obtain the coveted Master of the Universe award.

PlayStation Network Demos

  • Microbot
  • Top Gun
  • Alien Breed 2: Assault
  • Ricochet
  • Kung-Fu Live
  • Hustle Kings

PSone Classic: Re-Loaded

PSone Classics

Re-Loaded — It begins on a prison planet where the most sadistic, maniacal killers of all types are being held. Of course, they don’t plan to stay for long, and your role is to execute their escape from the bizarre confines. Choose from six lunatics as you attempt to blast, slash, and bite your way to sweet freedom. Characters range from armed robots to bloodthirsty cannibal girls, and each is vicious enough to destroy anything in its path.

Arc the Lad III — The tactical RPG Arc the Lad III is the third and final leg for the Arc series. The game lets you take on quests from guilds for the game to move on. As the story develops, the characters Alec and Lutz meet new company to face a corrupted organization called the Academy.

PSP: Legends of War: Patton's Campaign

PlayStation Portable (PSN)

Legends of War: Patton’s Campaign — A strategy game where the Campaign mode combines 2 different game modes: a high-level strategic management part, to set up your army with the units of your choice which can be evolved to acquire new features and skills; and a tactical and turn-based part, where you will fight across different battlefields seeking the defeat of Nazi army with the least casualties and number of turns possible.

Auditorium — Challenge yourself to transform light into sound while surrounded by stunning visual effects and supreme symphonies. Find yourself manipulating a constant stream of moving particles of light and sound into audio containers — as you fill the containers, light transforms into sound. Given enough light, the containers will begin to sing together in a symphony — not enough light, and you’ll find yourself battling to conquer each puzzle.

Minis: Angry Birds

PlayStation minis
Angry Birds — The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the green pigs who stole the Birds’ eggs. Use the unique destructive powers of the Angry Birds to lay waste to the pigs’ fortified castles. Angry Birds features hours of gameplay, challenging physics-based castle demolition, and lots of replay value. Each of the 63 levels requires logic, skill, and brute force to crush the enemy.

M.O.Z.O.X Space Salvager — M.O.Z.O.X. is a shoot’em up with a more ‘Classic’ flat and horizontal camera, and another camera orientation we call ‘Action’. The ‘Action’ camera gives a 3/4 view and rotates the camera like a vertical shooter but presents the player with depth. In our focus-testing we found this mode, while more challenging, was much more exciting to our testers.

Family Games: Pen & Paper Edition — In Family Games: Pen & Paper Edition, families can enjoy games like Squares (Dots), Nine Men’s Morris (Mill), Safe Cracker, Matchsticks and more.

[Editor’s Note: The following dates are subject to change. Game details are gathered from Press Releases from their individual publishers and/or ESRB rating descriptions.]

  • Pac-Man CE Mini for PSP, pretty please =)

  • I’m waiting for the Uncharted 3, Infamous 2 and Resistance 3 MP demo.
    Come on guys!

Having finished “The Cloud Connection”, I can’t wait.

  • Angry Birds is a Fantastic Phone App game. I was soo wishing for this on the PS3 as a Mini. Thank You playstation for answering our prayers. If you have not played nor seen this game it is a must have addictive little game for everybody. :)

  • Wasn’t angry birds planned as a fully fledged PSN title with new features and trophy support? why did it get dumbed down to a 63 level mini? especially when the 0.99$ iPhone version has no less than 240(!) levels

  • Yeah Angry Birds a very funny game

  • Angry Birds intrests me, but I think I’ll have to wait for a sale. There’s still that stupid “Everything on PSN must be overpriced” rule.

Maybe I’m wrong and the game’s gonna be $2 or $3, but I doubt it. I seriously hope your downloadable game pricing stratagy gets fixed by the time the PSP2 releases.

  • About we get to see Tetris on here. :D

  • Anyone know the price for Tetris? I bought a $20 card just for it, though I am hoping I won’t have to waste the whole card on it. It would be a shame.

  • Re-loaded?!?! Was Loaded ever released for PSN? I remember that being one of the first games I got for PSX when it was released, the hald dead cowboy character was the bizness!

  • I’m just looking for anything LBP2 – you can call it a mental disorder if you’d like to!

  • Hopefully in the next few weeks. We’ll see Xenogears and other Square classic RPG’s on the PS1 classics. That will truly bring in the new year. :)

  • One would have thought that Xenogears would have been published/released on the first PS Store update of 2011. I suppose I’ll just wait until it comes out before I buy anything else then. :P

  • When can we expect a PSN New Year’s sale , there was no Christmas or New Year sale yet. Last year there was a 10 on 10 sale on 22nd Jan.

I would love to see some titles like Motorstorm 3D Rift , Lara Croft , Deathspank etc. on sale.

  • Angry birds is going to be awesome!

  • Will sports championship be getting anymore games added?(hopefully that allow 4 players)

  • Is is safe to say that PSP Go owners will never get downloadable versions of the some of the great older PSP titles originally released only on UMD?

    Such as;

    – Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
    – Final Fantasy Tactics

A simple “Yes, it’s coming” or “No, it’ll never happen” would be much better than “Maybe” or “I don’t know”.

  • still no date for under siege…

    sigh……..

  • Angry Birds would’ve been so much better with Move support.
But oh well, can’t have everything. Still gonna purchase.

  • is there ever gonna be a bust a move for ps3 or on psn?i miss that game so much.

  • So is this “update” coming out on the PSN today?
    or tomorrow?

  • wtv…

  • im not happy about this update. Tetris is always nice but its been remade so many times.

  • Looking forward to Tetris.

  • KUNG FU LIVE DEMO YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
XD If i like it i will buy it…

  • When is Back to the Future coming out on PSN? Not the movie, but the game.

  • Angry Birds better not be more than like $3, if even that. Gamers should revolt if it is. The game is dang near free on phones.

  • Have to be honest. They should have released this today (Monday) being that we didn’t get an update last week. Also, who the hell is in charge of the THEMES & AVATARS?! Current AVATARS are boring, no God of War III avatars, no KZ2 or KZ3 avatars, no Prototype, Infamous or better yet Deadspace Avi’s. Only Uncharted gets all the love. That game alone gets all the attention while others get crapped on, seriously!

  • I know this is off the wall question but ….

    1) Will Siren: Blood Curse ever see a price drop on PSN. This game been out since the release of PS3.
    2) Will Bioshock DLC also see a price drop. Its still @ $9.99. Most of Bioshock 2 DLC are less then $10.00.

    Thanks

  • A new year, another year of lame releases. Funny how Sony refuses to comment on the #1 request…. Cross Game Voice Chat. Sad for a system that claims to do ‘everything’.

  • any news on what’s new for PS+ members???

  • Why no Legend of Dragoon. WHY!!!!!

It’s on the Japanese Market… for how long i don’t know but it was there!

  • Any news on weither or not we might be getting Castlevania Harmony of Despair anytime soon?

  • @24: This isn’t a slight at you or anything, I just wonder why people care about trophies so much these days, whatever happened to playing the game for fun? Also, unless the developers of that game made a full-sized PSN release out of it it won’t happen, because PSMinis are basically phone apps on your PSP.

  • When can we expect the PlayStation Store to be updated with these releases? The last update on the PSP Store was December 20, as of the time of this post.

  • “Senior Social Media Specialist”? This is a real job? Truly it is the End of Days. (Not dissing the man doing the job, just the crazy segmentation of business communications.)

The Drop is a complete waste of time. Why not just wrap this in with the regular update and cut the fluff? You can lay off the cutsey “vision of the future”, too. If you’ve got something to say, talk to us like we’re adults.

  • Vagrant Story? I like many of us are still waiting on this. Also any word of Rival Schools as a downloadable game in the future?

  • Just wondering…what time do you realse the games…because its now after 6pm eastern time and no new releases. Is there some way to release them earlier in the day instead of waiting in the evening…?

  • what happened to the hustle kings demo?

  • so no qore for this week ? there really needs to be more consistency on things that people pay for.

  • Why are minis costing way more than the ipod touch version? even some of thoses game in the ipod touch are free :/

  • Do anyone know when Parasite Eve 1 & 2 is coming to PSN?

  • any news on the promised speedball 2 for psn?
