Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta update, new chance to win a Limited Helghast Edition for US and Canada

Killzone fans! It’s less than a week since the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Beta hit PlayStation Store, but already you’ve racked up some impressive numbers. There’s been a staggering 62 million – million! – kills, of which around 10% have been Brutal Melee kills. Some 400,000 games have been blitzed through, with well over half a million players appearing on the Killzone 3 leaderboards. And two of those players have stormed through the one million XP barrier already.

Killzone 3 multiplayer

Your dedication to the cause hasn’t gone unnoticed over at developer Guerrilla Games. Far from it: the team has been working around the clock to analyze and act upon your feedback. Below you’ll find a round-up of issues discovered thanks to your hard work, and the solutions Guerrilla is working on to refine your experience.

High level issues discovered:

  • Connection problems
  • High load caused the database to fall over
  • Score posting
  • Flickering screens
  • Ribbon stats not updating
  • Vulgarity filter

Solutions underway:

  • Guerrilla has already released a patch. At the time of writing this has gone live in the US and the EU. The other territories will follow shortly. We have no ETA on that.
  • Guerrilla has made improvements for the server connection issues. The server was brought down and back up for that on Monday, February 7th.
  • The problems with the vulgarity filter should be fixed now.
  • Guerrilla will continue to update the servers and patch the Beta if needed. We’re watching your feedback closely on Killzone.com.
  • Score posting issues have been resolved.
  • Ribbon stats updating issue has been resolved, known issue is that 1 ribbon (the faster reload ribbon) does not update yet.

From Guerrilla Games: “We are happy that we are encountering these issues now, during a Beta, instead of after launch. This will help us get ready for the huge amount of people that are expected to go online for Killzone 3’s launch.

This Beta also gives us the opportunity to change Killzone 3 based on feedback that we get. Although we’ve already gone gold, we can and will make server-side adjustments to things like weapon damage, balancing issues, and more. So this is not a demo, it is meant to be a Beta — a way for us to test the game.

Thanks for your continued patience and help in getting this tested properly.”

Last week, we held a sweepstakes to give away 60 Killzone 3 Limited Helghast Editions (not sold in stores) to players who participate in the Multiplayer Open Beta. We had such a great response that we are running the sweepstakes again! Members of the Killzone 3 team will log on to the Multiplayer Open Beta throughout the sweepstakes and randomly select players in matches. We will not select players more than once during the sweepstakes, and we will notify the winners via the email address associated with their PSN account.

So, log on and play the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta from Friday, February 11th through Sunday, February 13th. We will be randomly selecting 20 participants each day who are playing in the Open Beta and notify winners via the email address associated with each entrant’s PSN account between February 17th, 2011 and February 25th, 2011.

Check out the full rules below.

And for all of our Canadian residents reading the PlayStation.Blog and wondering where their contest is, don’t worry! Our Canadian colleagues are holding a contest as well! From Friday, February 11 to Sunday, February 13, five Canadian participants playing in the Killzone 3 open beta will be randomly selected each day. All potential winners will be notified through their email address associated with their PSN account. Please note that you must be over the age of 18 to participate and the contest is not open to residents of Quebec. Click here for full rules.

Log on and good luck this weekend!

Non-compliance with these Official Rules or failure to return all required documentation by the stated deadline or Sponsor’s inability to contact an entrant (using the contact information provided in his or her registration) within a reasonable time period, as determined by Sponsor’s sole discretion may result in disqualification and the forfeiture of the prize.

  • Wow! The update is working great! Long live PSN, SCE and the great guys @ Guerrilla!!!

  • Can someone let me know where we can leave feedback for the beta? I reckon I’m probably just missing the obvious page somewhere, but would love to leave some feedback thanks.

  • Just wanted to take a minute and thank you guys for giving us what looks to be one amazing game.

  • @102… go to killzone.com and click on community and go to the beta section.

  • OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I KNOW WHAT I’M GOING TO BE PLAYING!!!

  • The beta is amazing! Definitely the best multiplayer experience I’ve had this gen, followed closely by MAG and then COD. The abilities rock and it’s very well balanced. THANK YOU GUERRILLA GAMES!

  • Cool! I’ll be sure to sign on and try to win one of the 15 Canadian copies!

  • Quick Question, so all we need to do is play between friday and sunday in the MP beta and we will automatically be entered? Like, we’ll be playing and some dude from GG (or whomever) will join our game and pick a random dude from said game (to be entered)? We don’t need to do any else other then play?

If I got that correct then hell yeah im down and you guys rock the *bleep*

  • Alrighty then, time to clean off some space on the hard drive for this now.

Thank you for showing your north-neighbours some love!

  • Well at least someone is getting to play this, everytime I try to connect it just Times out.

  • This announcment means I didnt win and the winners have been notified.I played for 14 hours 36 min straight!Oh well..Ill just go and buy my own led lights and install them inside the Helmut myself.

  • “Members of the Killzone 3 team will log on to the Multiplayer Open Beta throughout the sweepstakes and randomly select players in matches.”

Does this mean that the more we play, the better chance we have? Or will simply playing once a day enter us?

  • I still haven’t been able to connect online. always get some error.

  • PART – 1

I absolutely LOVED KZ2 but honestly, I’m kinda disappointed with KZ3’s multiplayer mode.
Now, I could never log and play the real multiplayer mode but I could play against the bots.

These are my issues in no particular order:

    1. The load-out screen is NOT as user-friendly as the KZ2 was. Why change something just for the sake of changing? Please show the player how he looks alongwith the guns/weapons and skills he has selected.
The current version is HIGHLY confusing (even for me and I PLAY KZ2 almost everyday!) It is also unnecessarily dark. Make it brighter and clearer.

    2. When completely amped-up, the saboteur (infiltrator) class never ever shows up what he really is; until he starts shooting at you. The original KZ2 had a good concept.

    3. The new spawn-point idea is totally ridiculous. Why did you guys not listen to so many good ideas that were presented to you during KZ2 discussions. Instead you guys come up with this?
I do not know how this static spawn point is going to work out in huge maps (like Phyrus rise).

  • PART – 2

    4. The weight of the guns is all but gone. You guys have made yourself almost indistinguishable from COD, SOCOM, etc. And the sad part is that you guys will still not win them over because it is just like coke and pepsi. When you get loyal to one, no matter how many coupons you send them, they will not change their choice and all you did was alienate your current fan base.

    5. Make the screen a bit brighter. The maps are already confusing. Don’t make them even more by darkness. It creates real problem on some LCD TVs.

    6. Have at least one map which is easy and similar to Radec Academy, so all the new entrants to KZ3 can practice before going to bigger ones. Heck, get the same KZ2 Radec Academy map back. Why do you guys never do such a simple thing? Just bring it back. Since it is already coded, it will not cost you any more money or time. Why not?

    7. Please please remove the annoying screams from dying soldiers. Keep it as calm as KZ2. Oh, and not to forget, also remove the sound of that utencil being kicked around. It sounds like my midnight stroll into my unlit kitchen and accidently tumbling something over.
Its OK to hear it once but not until ad-nauseum.

  • PART – 3

    8. Don’t allow payers to accidently fall off cliffs or into water. I thinks its an overkill (no pun indented).

I think that will be enough for now. I sincerely hope you guys actually READ this and make at least a few changes.

Look, I really appreciate what you guys do. I’m a programmer myself. But a time comes when we sit back, listen to what our customers really want and then re-assess our own views and assumptions. That time is Now, Guerrilla-Games. I hope you are Listening.

    – Your sincere gamer.

  • Thanks for including Canada.

  • hey i got one question if you are making the contest again then the people who play from February 4th to 6th need to play again to have a chance or they dont ???

  • Post:
“Members of the Killzone 3 team will log on to the Multiplayer Open Beta throughout the sweepstakes and randomly select players in matches.”

    Official Rules:
“3. HOW TO ENTER: Each time you play the Killzone 3 Mulitplayer Open Beta you are automatically entered into the drawing.”

This is kind of confusing. Which is true?

  • Thank you for including Canada in the contest!! I’ll be stuck doing renovations a lot this weekend, but I’ll see you online as much as I can!

  • Will there be another way to get the soundtrack or is it only available with the Helghast Edition?

  • I can finally play online again :D Thank you GG for both fixing the beta to perfection and holding another sweepstakes :)

Hey btw, whoever’s posting here for GG, can you reply to this? Mod’s never reply to me on sites *sad face*

  • Jeez, my hernia is killing me and NOW your giving another chance at winning the Helghast edition KZ3?! Man, that means I will have to suffer in pain for 3 more days playing all day and night trying to win this thing. :( Oh geeeeezzz! I guess I gotta do what I gotta do to win this huh? :P Oh well.. I guess I will try again for it.

  • connecting….find match….joining…..error 10002/20002/8001 3 hours straight for a week…..

  • Good luck everyone, and canada! :)

  • This contest sounds awesome! I’ve logged in every day so far, the multiplayer is miles better than Killzone3 and from what I hear the single player demo is amazing.

  • Error 8001!!!!

  • Was able to log on last night but wanted to get some more time logged today. Been trying to connect for the last 4 hours without luck. Keep getting Error 8001 as well even though there isn’t anything wrong with my internet connection. So much for the chances of getting in that contest. Are there different connection servers for us here in Canada? If so are they just getting hammered right now? Otherwise as a new player to the series, definitely looking forward to the full release. Hopefully the connection issues will be sorted by then?
