In the Trenches with Killzone 3, SOCOM 4 and the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter

Hi everyone! My name is Richard Ho and I’m part of the SCEA marketing team that has brought you familiar peripherals such as the DUALSHOCK 3, Bluetooth Headset and Surround Sound System. Back in December we showed you the new PlayStation Move sharp shooter and its compatibility with Killzone 3. Today, we took some time to walk you through the sharp shooter’s anatomy and show you how it works in action with two of our most anticipated games – Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs.

The PlayStation Move sharp shooter’s authentic design allows you to literally take aim and move into the firefight with the most intuitive and immersive control experience for shooter games. For those of you FPS fans on the fence about the sharp shooter, here are a few things to consider:

Developers for Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 have created their games with the sharp shooter in mind. There are customization screens available to adjust the sharp shooter settings which will allow for a perfect gaming experience.

The PlayStation Move sharp shooter enables easy access to the navigation controller and features easily accessible buttons (use of the extension connector to map the motion controller buttons onto the body of the gun). Extra features such as the reload button, pump-action grip, and firing mode selector give you additional in-game options to play with. The digital trigger allows for short pulls – meaning faster firing compared to manual triggers. An adjustable shoulder stock increases comfort for those long play sessions. Finally, you can customize the gun with included Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 stickers to suit your taste.

With the more than 50 supported PlayStation Move games available, there’s definitely something for everyone to enjoy. For the hardcore gamers, rest assured that Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 will not disappoint! The sharp shooter is only $39.99 (MSRP) and will be available at the time Killzone 3 launches on Feb 22, 2011. We can’t wait for you to test out the sharp shooter for yourselves. When you do, let us know what you think!

  • Think im the only one to notice the Helghast edition helmet in the background i hope thats the one were getting it looks sweet.

  • i’m a gamer from trinidad in the caribbean and peripherals and games are very pricey here but i’m buying that sharpshooter

  • I’ve been holding off on picking up a navigation controller until something came along that needed it. It would be awesome if there was a bundle for the Sharpshooter announced. KZ3/SOCOM + Navi + Sharpshooter or even just KZ3/SOCOM + Sharpshooter.

    Make it happen. Please? :)

  • Change is a hard thing to adapt to. Although this looks cool, I will always love my DS3 hands down.

  • Ok….I found out for co-op campaign in the demo, you can not use 2 Move sets. I assume not in the actual game either.

Also I went and set my “dead zone”, which is the area I move around in before the screen begins to pan around, and it worked well except for the on-rails portion at the very beginning of the demo. I was only able to aim the Move cursor around within the box of the deadzone and not outside of it, so I was unable to aim at anything outside of that area. I hope that is only an issue on the demo and resolved for the actual game. I only tried it once, so cant assure its not due to calibration, however after the crashlanding the Move cursor was able to move around the whole screen during the free walking part.

  • Looks great, too bad I got trauma from motion controllers since playing COD4 on the WII. Wish I could try it before I bought it, oh well, guess if I’ll buy it later the price will drop also. right?

  • “…for pumping caps…really?? did I just say that?” that was awesome jeff. I am also happy that you are looking into teh comments and responding to people’s questions. No one does that now a days. Keep up pumping caps!! XD

  • I like how the Sharp Shooter looks like a M4 Carbine :) Who created the design? I’d like to give props

  • is that a helghast helmet?? i cant wait til i have in my room ;)

  • What I can tell everyone about the sharpshooter, especially us old veterans, that just like the DS3 for are shooter games. Is that it is worth buying the sharpershooter. I got a chance to play online beta for killzone 3 in single player and multiplayer, and man is this gun accurate and deadly. and yes you can still jump around like a crazy fool and shoot at the same time without skipping a beat. I love this new toy for the PS3, and I’m happy that i did buy this new technology from sony. Can’t wait to use this gun on Socom 4 and all the other games that allow you to use the sharpshooter.:)

  • Any idea if a patch will ever be released for The Shoot to support the Sharp Shooter accessory?

  • It looks good, but seems a bit expensive at £35.99. Especially if you don’t have Move (£39.99) or a Navigation Controller (£17.99).

  • The Sharpshooter costs $39.99 in the USA and £39.99 in the UK at current exchange rates over £15.00 difference, why is that Sony.

  • I have both KillZone3 and the Sharpshooter I think it’s Heck a fun. just a bit of curve with moving around. I think with use it gets better.

    Mr Ho,
Would you like to comment on the fact that although the Sharpshooter peripheral has been promised as “available at the time Killzone 3 launches on Feb 22, 2011” by SONY for at least 3 months now, it’s currently unavailable throughout Australasia at time of the game release? Even through retailers that provide an ability to preorder, so as to eliminate supply problems on release, there are customers that now find themselves in the position of receiving the game, but without the aforementioned peripheral to experience what is touted as “the most realistic action possible” (once again, SONY’s words).
Could you, or someone in product managing, like to explain why this is?

  • Wheres the Socom/KZ3 sticker set? I’ve even tried shaking the box, but to no avail…….

  • i think it is false advertisement releasing a the socom 4 beta with the release of killzone3. Here it is march 3rd and my code for the socom 4 beta still doesnt work, thats bull ish.i preordered killzone 3 for the socom 4 beta. No offense to killzone, I never played the game but im glad i bought it. I’m very upset that i dont have access to the socom 4 beta. When will the socom 4 beta be ready? i hope you have an answer for me! thank you. wig–peeler
