Today we’re excited to announce the first-ever PlayStation Network Gamers’ Choice Awards, which gives YOU the power to recognize your favorite games. Kicking off this year, we have 20 of the highest user rated games released in 2010 as nominees competing in four categories – Best PS3 Downloadable Game, Best PSP Downloadable Game, Best PS3/PSP mini and Best PSN Exclusive Game.
From February 22 until March 1, PSN users have the chance to vote for your favorite game in each of the four categories by downloading a free XMB theme corresponding to that game. At the end of the voting period, the four winning games – one per category – will go on sale at a 30% discount in the PlayStation Store and will also be available for a 50% discount to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Get your vote on, but remember you can only vote once in each category.
Whether you’ve played it a million times or you know you’d just love it, be sure you make your voice heard and cast your vote. The 20 games nominated in this year’s PSN Gamers’ Choice Awards are as follows:

I know which ones I think are “best”, but I would much rather vote for games I haven’t played and want to see on sale so I could pick them up. This is a pretty flawed idea.

I love CC and Hustle kings. In fact, dead nation is awesome, however I have it already.

…with Castle Crashers, PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Lunar Silver Star Harmony, Valkyria Chronicles II, A Space Shooter for Two Bucks, Age of Zombies, and Young Thor on my consideration lists. I haven’t played Castle Crashers, Pac-man CE DX, or VC2, but they’ve caught my eye (or my sister’s) and have had good reputations; I’ve partly played Ghost of Sparta, and it’s not particularly weak or anything; played the demo for Lunar SSH, though my first read review of it pales it in comparison to its full-console counterpart(s); and I’ve played, for however long, in ASSF2B, AoZ, and YT (some, little, lot), and like their styles.
However, my choices are the ones that I’ve either played through (CQ, MPSMP) or top out on catching my eye (P3P, JD). I probably still won’t pay $20 for P3P, though, since I still have P3FES to FINISH, and P1[P] has been on the backburner for months. Joe Danger just easily wins its category, though I am somewhat familiar with Sam & Max. His chicken costume makes it better, though overall wouldn’t affect my decision.

Oh! But if Grubbins on Ice goes 50% (assuming CQ wins), I would TOTALLY be all up ons that.
Hm, but, will we be able to download the succeeding themes? If not, can we after the voting has died down? If so, will our vote be the first we chose, or the latest?
Wait, so if I already own a game, enjoy it, then vote for it and it wins . . . other people get a discount.
Or, if I see a game I’ve wanted to get and there’s a chance to get it cheaper . . . I can vote for that one.

I own both Hustle Kings and Castle Crashers and enjoy them a lot, yet, I will not be voting for them as I’ve had Joe Danger, Pac-man, Sam & Max and Costume Quest on my radar for awhile (I see some coin-flipping in my future).
This is more of a gamer’s choice “discount contest” than it is a true gamer’s choice “award”. So, I suppose it’s us gamers who win the “award” then, eh?
For me Best PSP Downloadable Game is Kurohyo Ryu Ga Gotoku Shinsho or Yakuza black Panther from the Japanese PS-Store.

Wow, first MGS Peace Walker gets snubbed by the GDC Awards and now by the very same PSN? Is this list composed of best-sellers or something? Even so, I’d wager MGS PW (PSN digital version alone) was a better seller than some of those PSP games listed there. But that’s besides the point, MGS PW is a PSN PSP game and it’s the most deserving title the portable ever had, it wins against God of War GoS hands down! oh wait, maybe you made the list as a pretext to award GOS very easily…or maybe MGS PW is stealth-camouflaged and that’s why we don’t see it on the list…
Guaranteed that God of War wins. Not my best of 2010.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 was an amazing game…and I get the feeling it will be sadly over looked. I really wish there were MORE online experiences like Phantasy Star Portable 2 on the PSP.

I like it but not really the choices, guess it’s a work in progress.
Wouldn’t the fact that the games will be discounted cloud the judgement of voters? Why vote for a great game you already own, when you could vote for another and get it at a discount?

GoW is probably going to win though. :( The GoW series is so overrated.

– Socom Fireteam Bravo 3 (PSP)
– MAG (ps3)
– MGS: Peace Walker (PSP)
…by leaving out the best download games on PSN you make the overall quality seem disappointing.

PS3 Downloadable: Scott Pilgrim or Castle Crashers are awesome. Didn’t like Deathspank or Pac-man too much, but Costume Quest was quite enjoyable.
PSP Downloadable: already have God of War and Valkyria 2. Two very great games… kinda OD’d on Persona. Haven’t tried the other 2… but Lunar is a remake right? Pretty sure I played the original Lunar so I’m sure it’s great.
Mini? -_- Only played what was free to PSN+
PSN Exclusive? Only played Soldner. Should really try the others.

Of course, you do realize that offering a discount on the winner taints the voting results with votes for a future discounted purchase, yes? :D
This is ridiculous – the only way you could legitimately vote for them is if you played and liked them, and that means you BOUGHT them already, as they’re download-only games and you couldn’t have borrowed or rented them, thus negating the benefit of the discount for those users.
Does anyone realize that over half of these games have already been on sale recently, within the last few months? Why can’t games that haven’t been on sale be reduced?
I mean Soldner X and Costume Quest were on sale 2 weeks ago, Scott Pilgrim before that, Phantasy Star was $15.99 around new years, and Sam and Max was free for PS+ for Christmas, all 5 episodes(which sucked).
Doesn’t this encourage people to vote for the game they want to be in sale instead of the game they think should win because they would have already bought the game they think should win?

Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse was not an exclusive to the Playstation Network. It also is available on Steam, a fact also to be respected by the new semi-alliance with Steam via Steamworks.
Recommendation: Replace the choice with Echochrome ii.

the best games in the whole list are pacman, soldner x and dead nation.. the rest are rubbish
not a really decent list from what i see but then again this is 2011 nominee’s .. better games were back in 2008-10 i think..
Super Stardust HD, Gripshift and Blast Factor were great titles just to name a few..
i’ll go w/ pac man as best download but idk its a steep ask on dead nation or soldner-x both games were nuts
