Competitive multiplayer has always been the core of the SOCOM franchise, and SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs takes it further than ever before with modes and options that both new recruits and veterans alike will enjoy. We’ve previously covered three of our four competitive modes — Suppression, Last Defense and Uplink — and today we’re excited to unveil our fourth mode, Bomb Squad.
In Bomb Squad, Insurgents have planted a number of bombs around the map and the Spec Ops team must defuse them all before time runs out. What makes Bomb Squad special is that it features the unique Bomb Technician character, played by one member of the Spec Ops team, who is charged with defusing the explosives. He carries both an automatic shotgun and a mobile grenade launcher and is very heavily armored, making him a deadly force on his own; that said, the technician is still an open target any time he turns his back to defuse Insurgent bombs. Succeeding in Bomb Squad requires tactics, teamwork, patience and confidence to get the job done, all pillars of the overall SOCOM experience.
When can you get your hands on Bomb Squad, you ask? Well, you’ll be able to try out all four of our modes on two maps in our upcoming beta! The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta will include each of the game’s competitive multiplayer modes — Suppression, Last Defense, Uplink and Bomb Squad — all playable on the maps “Port Authority” and “Assault & Battery”. And of course, you’ll be able to play each of our modes in either of their Standard or Classic variants.
The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta will roll out in four separate phases. It’ll begin with a small, private group and then expand weekly from there until it’s freely available to everyone! Here’s the schedule for each of the beta’s rollout phases:
- On March 15th, a private beta goes live. We’ll be contacting eligible players soon.
- Beginning March 22nd, PlayStation Plus members will gain access to the beta.
- On March 29th, anyone with a beta code included with Killzone 3 gains entry.
- Starting April 5th, the beta will be freely downloadable to anyone via PlayStation Network.
The beta is scheduled to run until April 13th, at which point the servers will be taken down in preparation of SOCOM 4’s retail release on April 19th!

Not that I dislike KZ3, I was just hoping that the little PR stunt would turn out to be more than a PR stunt. Seriously glad I didn’t JUST buy KZ3 for a beta that comes two weeks after when it was supposed to. Like other people did.

Think about it, They wanna start the beta off slowly with a small private group than with a much larger group later on(Also Note: PS+ Members were promised Beta Invites to games long before we knew about Socom 4 beta invites being packed in with KZ3, So I can understand why they get it second). Then we have the Killzone 3 owners with beta invites, But I do agree that they should of been a bit more specific on how you will be able to access the beta because I’m sure I wasn’t the only that had no idea that there were other ways of getting in up until this post. However, Still looking forward to Socom 4 and the beta.

Could you shed some light on how the bomb diffuser is determined? Does the team select him/her? Does it rotate between team members during the course of the match? What happens if someone is selected and they aren’t filling the role correctly?

And you know what? None of this really matters, I guess. That’s what’s so funny. People have blind faith for SONY and PlayStation, that they bend over backwards for them; I swear this new and younger generation of gamers are so easily satisfied/impressed, it’s disgusting. This beta was the only chance SOCOM4 had to be fixed if Zipper listened… with everything they have changed/removed for the worst, the classic, tried and trued, fan-favorite modes being absent, the removal of some fundamental and crucial game-play elements/mechanics, and not to mention the unacceptable removal of features that a LAST GEN, PS2 GAME HAD! Really?!?! A game that old had more useful features than a modern PS3 game, now? WOW… “SOCOM” is not SOCOM anymore…and all of this is a big middle finger to the hardcore fanbase that made Zipper successful… way to cater to the CoD kiddies… lol, 2 primary guns and killstreaks… no grenade arc… oh my my my…
But, getting back on point, none of it matters though, because even if Zipper tried to listen and follow the advise/demands of the community/fanbase… and even if they could pull that off effectively… there isn’t enough time, you have a beta that is way too close to the release date of the final game… in fact, I’m sure the game is already close to being finalized, and Zipper probably has no intention to delay it, or even change it at all (lobbies, earth to zipper, hello?!).. even if it was possible under time constraints. And I’m sure they wouldn’t make many drastic changes with patches, unless they go the Slant Six route… but then they would lose their stubborn “dignity”.

Anyway it’s a ps move bundle that comes with the eye,the move controller,the navigation controller and the Sharpshooter,as well as the game itself . $149.99 I already have mine pre-ordered .
Anyone who doesn’t understand how to get into a beta at this point, as clearly as it’s spelled, out is a complete tool. As for people calling “foul” on Zipper for not having KZ3 codes in the beginning, you aren’t owed crap so shut the hell up.
BTW I bought the Sharpshooter with KZ and interesting but does NOT make it easier, in my opinion, to play with move. You still turn view by pointing the move reticle beyond the screen. I didn’t return it but a std sixaxis controller is still the way to go, for me.
