The Drop: Week of March 14th 2011 New Releases

The Drop this week delivers a long list of titles that will make your stack of backlogged games tower even higher. I’m guilty of name dropping, especially when games like Slam Bolt Scrappers, Homefront and Parasite Eve arrive on PlayStation 3 and PsOne Classics this week. You’ll also get your chance to try PlayStation Move Heroes when the demo hits PSN, followed by demos for Mortal Kombat (open to all PSN users) and Crysis 2 Multiplayer.

The Drop: March 14th Artwork

I can go on forever on how great it was to meet new and familiar faces at PAX East this week, and congratulate the winner of SOCOM 4 tournament Zipper is hosting today, but you have a jump to hit and a drop to read! Enjoy it!

PS3: Homefront

PlayStation 3

Homefront — The year is 2027. The world has suffered a decade-long energy crisis, and economies have crumbled. Reduced to a mere shadow of the super power it once was, the United States became the target of a North Korean takeover. Featuring a compelling single player story crafted by John Milius (Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn), Homefront immerses gamers in an interactive and cinematic FPS experience where they will assume an infantry role or take command of a wide variety of aerial and ground vehicles.

Yakuza 4 — Set in a fully realized, authentic recreation of Tokyo’s “Sin-City District” the deep and interweaving crime drama of Yakuza 4 unfolds through the eyes of four unique and dangerous characters. Visit Hostess clubs, try karaoke, or experience the pachinko parlors and other adult entertainment, only found in Tokyo. Each character will take on different missions, allowing the player to interact with the city from their unique viewpoints and experience every taboo in the underground world of Tokyo.

Top Spin 4 (PlayStation Move Enabled) — The most feature-rich title of the Top Spin franchise, Top Spin 4, puts you front and center of the professional tennis experience with the deepest player roster to date complete with 2K’s Signature Style, an enhanced Player Creator with new Coaching and Development systems, an incredibly immersive Career mode, all-new visually stunning TV Broadcast presentation elements, and a fully online World Tour Mode.

Warriors: Legends of Troy — From the creators of Dynasty Warriors comes an unbelievable game that tells the tale of the epic Trojan War. In this ancient time, men and gods fought alongside one another for eternal glory. Carve your name into history as you experience amazing action and incredible mythology.

Dance on Broadway (PlayStation Move Enabled) — Dance on Broadway is the dance game that puts YOU center stage performing some of the biggest Broadway hits right at home! Dance, sing, and act to hit songs from your favorite musical performances, like “You Can’t Stop the Beat”, “Fame”, and “Luck Be A Lady”, just to name a few! Challenge up to four friends for the starring role. Get your jazz hands ready for Dance on Broadway!

Fit in Six — Fit in Six separates overall fitness routines into six core elements — core body, upper body, lower body, cardio, balance and flexibility — that help you focus on getting fit and reaching your goals. The workouts have been developed by experienced fitness professionals to ensure that every move is performed precisely and effectively.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel — This third chapter in the Ar tonelico franchise marks a new approach to the RPG genre by seamlessly combining simulation with role-playing. Gamers can not only customize weapons and items, but now design their character’s personalities, skills, and appearance through virtual interaction. Also past events will intersect with future game play as well as the outcome of the game. Both the graphics and battle system is all new, created from ground up for an unique gaming experience.

PSN: Slam Bolt Scrappers

PlayStation Network

Slam Bolt Scrappers — Slam Bolt Scrappers is a mash up of building and brawling! Reach for the sky and build the greatest towers in Slam Bolt City while defending against deviously charming baddies and epic bosses. Play with up to three of your friends in the co-op campaign or go head to head in the simple, yet surprisingly deep competitive battle mode.

Hard Corps: Uprising — As homage to the legacy of Konami’s run-and-gun games, Hard Corps: Uprising brings an exciting new look to a traditionally retro genre, all the while keeping with the frenetic gameplay that defines the shooter category. The game follows the soldier Bahamut as he begins to rise in strength and write his legend. Multiple game modes allow seasoned pros to show off their skills and enable genre neophytes to reach victory.

Major League Baseball 2K11 (PSP) — Swing for the fences with the 2011/2012 edition of 2K Sports’ acclaimed baseball franchise. This portable version of Major League Baseball 2K11 lets players play through a wide variety of modes, from the simple slugfest of the Home Run Derby to the dramatic, grueling schedule of Season and Franchise modes. Players can even dip into the Minor Leagues and guide future stars to the big leagues.

Vertigo (PSP) — Vertigo is a high-rolling, adrenalin-fuelled combination of futuristic racing, puzzle solving and precision control. You are a Xorber, a member of most Elite Xorb racing corp. in the galaxy. Roll thunderously across 54 wild and challenging landscapes, through 9 different worlds, each with their own unique treacherous terrain and death defying obstacles.

Create your own hero and battle against many different types of these enemies, picking up items along the way to customize your weapons, guns, bullets and shields, boosting your strength and stamina in the massive scale fights.

Jikandia: The Timeless Land (Also on PSN) — In Jikandia, you must travel through dungeons in search of your friends. You can set the time limit for each dungeon yourself! Dungeons are altered in several ways according to the time limit you set, so no adventure is the same twice! The longer you spend in one, the more likely you’ll come across rare items and treasure chests… but you’ll also face more monsters and difficult traps. Up to four PSP systems can be linked to play in the Jikandia Coliseum timed stages where you can battle against your friends and dodge traps to win with the highest score!

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy Prologus (Also on PSN) — The divine conflict between harmony and discord rages on, the fate of the world its promised prize. PSone: Parasite Eve

PSone Classics

Parasite Eve — A fateful night at the opera house triggers in one woman the power to cause all those around her to spontaneously incinerate, and in another woman an innate resistance to the attack. You assume the role of the second woman New York cop Aya Brea as she comes to realize that the fate of humanity will be determined by her actions.

minis: Pix N Love Rush

Enigmo — Enigmo is a 3D puzzle game where you move various streams of flowing liquid so that the droplets get to their destination. Liquids (water, oil, and lava) fall from “droppers” and will bounce around the walls of a mechanism. The faster you complete each level, the more bonus you will receive.

Ancient Game Treasures Mill — This is a board game in which players must line up three colored circles in a row to remove opponents’ pieces. To win, players can trap all of their opponent’s pieces or remove all but two of them from the board.

  • Hey Rey,

What its the chance of brave fencer musashi, breath of fire 3n4, and erhgiez coming to the psn? The 1st 2 are my old school favorites, I never got the chance to play 4, n erhgiez was a great game.

  • Yakuza 4 for me.

Also, is Lara Croft on sale this Tuesday?

  • Booo. Put Suikoden 2 on PSN, I’m not payin no 165 dollars for that [DELETED].

  • Not really excited about anything this week. Parasite Eve hasn’t aged well at all IMO. I don’t know how I played it when it was originally released.

At least there’s the MvC3 DLC. Still waiting on the Castlevania DLC.

Now back to Final Round for the MvC3 finals.

  • ar tonelico qoga shall be mine!

  • What is the Drop’s big amount of games that came out for a week?
Also, Any world of PE2 Release?

  • 5/5 week bisnachez

  • Are we going to get add-ons to Stacking like the 360 will?

  • @40

Beyond Good and Evil HD is estimated for first week of April.

  • @64 (perrandy)
Oh god thank you, now I know I’m not the only one looking forward to/picking up ATQ. Though I will be playing for more than just the music, if you know what I mean….hehehe!!

I actually have Saki set as my PSP and iPod Touch 4G’s wallpapers, both the same image! Until I see a better/hotter pic of her (and/or Finnel as well), possibly in the Visual Book that comes with the game, they will not change.

As far as everything else goes, I thought DD012FF comes out next week and not this week? That’s what I read on Gamestop’s product listing.

PS Move Heroes demo? Yay! But I don’t have a Move….can I still play it with a regular controller? I miss good ol’ Jak and Sly… if only those companies (Naughty Dog and Isomanic Games, respectively) would push out just one more game for the PS3/P. Then again, ND does have a history of developing 3-game series for each Sony console (Crash, J+D, and Uncharted for PS1, 2, and 3, respectively).

Also, I thought the MK demo was for Plussies only? Or is this week the release of the demo for everyone else?

  • question just like all the others….will we ever see parasite eve 2 on psn? i know it must be asked a million times on the blog but i just want the claristy. thanks a lot for the answers…if any..

  • Going to be a busy week for me in games. Yakuza 4 & Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel already reserve and PAID in FULL. Going to download Hard Corps: Uprising & Parasite Eve from PSN.

  • Any plans of PE2 before 3rd Birthday’s release?

  • MORTAAAL KOOMBAAT!!!!!!
I cant [DELETED] wait to play-as sub-zero XD XD
An to bad that i dont have a move controler, ill be happy to play Mover Heros :(
And Crysis Demo will be realy cool but not like killzone 3, i think that this game will be havy download.
    Sorry for my bad inglish.
    I LOVE PLAYSTATION AND PS3-FANS

  • Sounds like a great update! I will be downloading the Plants VS. Zombies demo and Crysis 2 multiplayer demo for sure. Maybe on Mortal Kombat. Not sure about Slam Bolt or Heroes on the Move (don’t have a Move).

Oh and Parasite Eve! This year has been great for SquareEnix PS1 titles so far (Xenogears, Vargant Story, Parasite Eve). I am very tempted to download Xenogears or Parasite Eve, but I have to wait and see what LBP2 and Stacking have up their sleeves as far as DLC first…

Anyway, looks like Tuesday is going to be very cool. :)

  • Parasite Eve… that’s great and all but I already own hard copies of both 1 and 2. What needs to be done is to port PE: The Third Birthday to either the PS2 or the PSN. Shouldn’t have to be forced to buy a PSP the 2 or 3 games I would even play on it.

  • As with hard corps uprising i’m sure we’re made to wait because ms cut a limited release window so it arrives on 360 1st which is bad for those who would like the psn version @ the same time.

I’m waiting on BG and E HD on psn because i prefer my thrustmaster playstation pad over my 360 pad.

  • Great week. Getting Homefront and Yakuza. Also sending a dollar for every dollar I spend on games to Japanese Quake/Tsunami relief. Rey, any chance of Sony spearheading a convienient way to donate? This is America after all. We are the most generous nation on Earth, even to “unfriendly” nations. Japan is our buddy, so if you can’t send money, I’m sure prayers are being accepted. Never forget how good you have it. Peace.

  • what does (Also on PSN) mean? These games will be playable on PS3?
It’ll be nice if Sony can spearhead a donation drive or allow profits from a localized japanese game (such as Yakuza) to go towards the Japanese Disaster Relief. (doesn’t have to be all.. but a portion? or allow users to decide)

  • once again disappointed… no legend of mana >_< why???

  • Yo Rey, You forgot to mention MotoGP 10/11. Comes out on the 15th, and apparently it’s only for PS3.

Not that you mention it, we haven’t seen much of Capcom lately on the psblog. What’s up with that? Those post count contest were pretty fun until you know, they’d broke the psblog comment section, but hey, free psn games!

  • @83
FREE GAMES?!?!?! Where?! WHERE?!?!?!? I kid, I kid.

  • We need more PS3 games on PSN please. Also make a storefront for the Dreamcast games and PS2 HD games on PSN.

  • Need more move titles!

  • I have Homefront reserved at gamestop and can’t wait for it!!! I love the direction of the game and can’t wait to get my hands on some others if I have any money left :).

  • Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy Prologusm available for psn… does this mean even though I don’t have a psp, I can download this game and play it on my ps3?

  • @74 nYcFrEeWiLL82 – Yeah, a lot those PSOne Classics leave a lot to be desired on big HDTV’s, but they look simply incredible on the PSP, which is where I play them most. Having all those crazy good games I played as a kid with me to take on-the-go just can’t be beat.

  • Crysis 2 demo release this week huh.

Had fun on the 360 version, had godly more fun on the PC version since FPS’s are godly better with a keyboard + mouse.

Ill definantly will have to give this demo a shot. Im curious how the PS3 stands out compaired to the 360 version since the people over at Crytek say the PS3 version will be the best console version.

  • WARRIORS: LEGENDS OF TROY! About time! I’m pretty sure I will be among the 7 people in the entire US to pick this one up. :)

  • 74# Thats why i play ps1 classics on my psp. on PSP they don’t look that awful.

  • LEGEND OF DRAGOON.

    Please?

  • Legend of Dragoon would be so awesome!!

  • If LoD came to PSN (which it just did recently….in Japan), that’d mean I’d have to find a Memory Card adapter (seeing as I have a physical GH copy…with messed up discs)

  • Can’t wait to give Crysis 2 a test run hope its as good as it looks. Any news on the Socom Beta?
