LittleBigPlanet 2 Upcoming DLC; New Behind the Scenes Media Molecule Documentary

Happy Friday LBP fans –

Since our January LittleBigPlanet 2 release, there are more and more awesome LBP2 levels being uploaded every day, so many in fact that we’re getting very close to a fantastic milestone, which we’ll hopefully be able to share details on very soon. Until then, a big thank you to all of the creators out there – great work!

This week though, we wanted to give you all a sneak peak at some of the DLC planned for LittleBigPlanet 2 over the next few months. As all of the loyal original LittleBigPlanet players will remember, we always like to ensure that there is plenty of new content to freshen up your creations or just keep your Sackboy looking sharp. For starters, be sure to pick up your free St. Patrick’s Day costume from the PlayStation Store this week. It’s Sackboy’s yearly chance to show his Irish spirit – you wouldn’t want to deprive him of that, would you? There will be plenty more free DLC costumes throughout the year, so keep your eyes peeled.

Last week, the Even More Animals costume pack was released to ensure that those of you who weren’t able to pick up the LittleBigPlanet 2 Collector’s Edition have the option of dressing up your Sackboy as a Cobra, Mandrill, Crocodile, or Vulture. The individual costumes are $0.99 each, while the four pack bundle is available for $2.99.

LBP2 Even More Animals

Looking ahead to next month, you’ll get the chance to take your Sackboy on a journey into The Grid with the Tron: Evolution mini-pack. Featuring characters from the game that serves as a prequel to last year’s Tron: Legacy blockbuster movie, this pack will contain two brand new costumes—Anon and Abraxas—plus plenty of sleek and stylish Tron-themed stickers to decorate your levels.

You’ll also be seeing plenty of costumes and kits based around other PlayStation characters this year so look out for the brand new Killzone 3 mini-pack coming soon featuring Rico and a very cool looking Hazmat Trooper. But, what better way to kick things off than with some indisputable PlayStation icons? Next week we’ll be releasing three pairs of costumes based alongside the release of PlayStation Move Heroes on PS3 – Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, and Sly & Bentley. Each pack of two will be on sale for $2.99.

Some of you may have also picked up on Media Molecule mentioning a future PlayStation Move DLC pack in recent media interviews. Well, the team is indeed working on this, a VERY exciting pack that will be coming later this year so stay tuned for details.

Finally, moving away from DLC, as part of the Make.Believe campaign this year, our Sony colleagues have put together a cool new behind the scenes documentary that tells the story of how two members of the Media Molecule team came to be working at the studio. As you can see, neither John nor Christophe were originally working in the games industry, but after the right people noticed their creative wizardry within LittleBigPlanet, something amazing happened…have a look!

  • Woo hoo! Sly and Bentley costumes! You saw my post of DLC ideas, did you not?
@48: No. They are CE exclusives.

  • I feel like 99 cents is expensive for a single costume (and $2.99 even more so for 4 costumes) when we constantly switch up our costumes every hour or so. Maybe that’s just me though, and the overwhelming amount of costumes I have (LBP + DLC + LBP2) emphasize this. Now if you introduce 10 costumes for $2.99, I’ll gobble it right up.

  • Costumes for Folklore, Demon’s Souls…..maybe? might be considered? coin flip decides?

Looking forward to Sly and Bentley since I got the collectors edition:)

  • Yes, I have almost ALL DLC for LBP, minus one or two packs. (I will pick them up soon)

I wish they were priced more fairly. (Cheaper)

  • Just hoping for a Mortal Kombat costume pack :P

  • You can tell that LBP1 and 2 are games made with love, and this video reinforces that belief. Really inspirational stuff, makes me think that there is a place for me in this world too.

  • I am NOT a happy customer, I actually regret buying this game now. More old LBP1 costumes, and you`re selling what`s supposed to be our CE PREORDER EXCLUSIVE costumes! I spent $79.99 for the CE to get exclusive content and what do you do, you give it to the public!! What was the point of that?! You ripped me off Mm!!! I am so tired of ppl copying my original costumes in the game, but with the preorder costumes not a lot of ppl could this time around. But now you`re allowing them to steal my ideas again. Yeah, thanks a lot. And to top it all off, my data disappeared after I had collected and aced everything, and I had to start the game over from scratch!! What kind of game is this, when all your hard work is punished and taken away from you, and ppl are encouraged to steal your ideas and take all the credit for it?!

  • First of all, the costumes are too much money, as for the first Little Big Planet game, I mostly purchased level packs and kits rather than costumes. 5 bucks for a level pack (like Pirates of the Carribean and Metal Gear Solid) is a reasonable deal. But 5 bucks for a pack of costumes is too much money.

Personally, I think that 99 cents for a packet of four and about 29 cents per costume, and 2.99 to 3.99 for a packet of 10 to 20 is ideal.

But what they should really do in Little Big Planet 2 is offer more of the way of new mechanics and tools then just costumes and level kits featuring a few materials, stickers, and stuff. Come on. This is a platform of games.

And the Playstation Move support in the latter half of the year is a bit too late. We’ve already got the demo levels, so Move Support should be sometime this spring, NOT later this year.

I personally believe that Little Big Planet 3 may come out sometime in 2013, but hopefully, they can do away with the 3-layer gameplay and move to 3D (but have LBP1 and 2 compatible with the new version.)

  • Oh, and multiplayer is horrible. It`s just a bunch of error messages saying you failed to connect to players, the person is busy, a player can`t load your profile, etc. If you, by some miracle, DO manage to get into a game with someone, it`s just a sufferable few mins of horrible lag where you can hardly move and the loading screens are having some sort of seizure, then when you`re wishing you`d just stuck to single player after all you`re mercifully kicked by another dumb error saying the game disappeared, or the game diverged, or some such excuse.

I used to love LBP like the rest of you, don`t get me wrong, I`m not hating, but these probs and then getting ripped off by Mm is too much. Patch the game`s multiplayer and data loss issues, compensate those of us who`d preordered the CE under false pretense that we were getting exclusive content, and I`ll be a happy sackgirl again.

  • Any plans to add keyboard and mouse support, I can draw reasonably well using a mouse but not the controller sticks. Also typing text would be a lot faster with a keyboard. Thanks

  • That video is really inspiring.
It is a little disappointing that I already have most of the upcoming DLC since I got the CE, but I’ll continue to check every source almost every day in anticipation on something new to gasp at. I really like the work MM has done and always will!

Maybe a costume sale or something soon though? I still want the Marvel packs, but money is an issue now.

  • Am I the only one who noticed THE LAUGHING MAN from the anime Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex in the video at 6:09?

  • i got the collectors edition and don’t mind them selling costume packs. i’ve had them for awhile and early. its not like they’re giving them away or forcing people to buy them.

  • I’m okay with Collectors Edition DLC going on the open market, but when are we gonna see FRESH items?? I would also like some more tutorial levels, like how to make a proper topdown level, or use the hologram material to make 8-bit games in LBP2… I’ve played around with the create mode, but it’s not that easy for me to make stuff that’s up to par with the story mode stuff.. You (Mm) made after market tutorials for the water and other add-ons.. So I’m sure you could make some new tutorials… Anything to Hear Steven Fry tell me what to do on new things.. LOL…

  • I will be getting the Sly and Bentley costumes however are the Ratchet&Clank and Jak&Daxter costumes identical to the ones included in the collectors edition? I thought those were EXCLUSIVE costumes?

  • Lol, what about the long lost FFVII costumes? That is always funny to bring up. Maybe they are making levels to accompany them.

  • Why are the jak and daxter costumes up there. They should have changed them atleast so then the collector edition ones are still exclusive.

  • Please more levels and less costumes. While the user created levels are fantastic, and I appreciate every single one of them, they are not on par with MM created levels. I would fork over plently of dough if you guys would create DLC levels with some type of regularity. I think I have enough costumes. More gameplay please!!!!

  • I wish Sackbots had a “Die from Water?” option…

  • Make angry birds costume pack and more prem packs (pirates of the caribean and mgs) killzone 3 prem pack would be cool….PS move costume would be nice too but it should come from the same pack as tht move dlc :D
BTW Is Jak & Daxter and R&C costumes in LBS???

  • Looking forward to the move update. I’m sure I’m like a lot of others who were going to be upset if the only Move support was for Prehistoric Moves.

  • @Wholley: You can use a USB keyboard to type your messages to other players as well as type in messages for Magic Mouths to repeat. Oh and Sticky Notes!

  • Look for the people that order CE or have the pre-order clu costume the material of clu now is called material of clu and anon then the people that have the CE or pre-order Clu are going to get the minipack free or we gona need buy it again.

  • and ther is a plan of creation pack 2 there maybe will be the move tool

  • Awww man…why did ya go and give my “exclusive” DLC away?

  • To people that say some of the costumes we got with CE are exclusive to CE only that is just completely wrong. I know for a fact MM said that these were going to be DLC and CE users get them first and for “free”

    That was the exclusive.

Don’t put words in MM’s mouth.

  • @ Feral_Dragon

Sounds like your network sucks. I can honestly say that I have none of those issues. One in awhile I lose connection from a user but it’s like once every 2-3 weeks…seriously.

  • @ Feral_Dragon

Also you mentioned that peope can capture your costumes… they patched that already. You can’t do this anymore.

You love complaining don’t you. The game is amazing and does things no other game does and your complaints are non existant and the few issues you mentioned were patched.

  • Will CE ppl get tron mini pack 4 free cuz it would be unfair if u would give Clu’s costume away with some extra suff….

  • I just hope that if the LBP2 Move levels require two players like Sackboy’s Prehistoric Moves, it will support online play for them.

@36: “I’d like to inform you that: 1) The Jak and Daxter… costumes were pre-order bonuses, and NOT part of the Collector’s Edition.”

    You were saying?

  • I would love to see a Ratchet and Clank All 4 One Level Kit.
    Costumes: Qwark and Nefarious
Ratchet and Clank themed stickers, decorations, materials, objects, music
    Background: The Great Clock
With 3 Ratchet and Clank themed levels.

And Here’s a Megamind Level Kit:
Costumes: Megamind, Metro Man, Destruction Worker, Psycho Delic, Hot Flash, Tighten
Megamind themed stickers, decorations, materials, objects, music
2 level backgrounds: Metro Man Museum and Megamind’s Lair
    with 4 Megamind themed levels.
