The Drop: Week of March 21st 2011 New Releases

Our first-party domination continues with PlayStation Move Heroes dropping this week. When six of PlayStation‘s iconic heroes team up to take on evil, the fanboy in me can get into a wired up tizzy. Especially when Ratchet and Jak are on the box cover with a giant PlayStation Move sticker to sweeten up the deal.

A raider of tombs, receives her own remastering in high definition on Blu-Ray this week with Tomb Raider Legends and Tomb Raider Anniversary dawn a polygonal refresh. Toss in a ton of extras and Tomb Raider Underworld, and you’ve got yourself a PlayStation collection ripe with content.

The PlayStation Network brings a wealth of titles and demos as well, continuing the trend each and every week of mammoth releases. This week’s The Drop promises to entice and please your gaming taste-buds.

PlayStation Move

PlayStation Move Heroes — Together for the first time, PlayStation’s legendary heroes Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly and Bentley, ban together to defeat a villainous duo in this wildly humorous adventure for the PlayStation Move. By using the PlayStation Move motion controller and The PlayStation Move navigation controller, players now have the unique experience of becoming one of their favorite PlayStation characters as they control their every move throughout the game. Players will smash, hurl and shoot their way through imaginative puzzles and challenges as the heroes team up against their new enemies.

A mysterious and evil force has crept into the galaxy, maliciously steeling entire cities and environments from Ratchet, Jak and Sly’s worlds. Stopping at nothing, this fiendish enemy enslaves a race of peaceful space creatures and puts the entire galaxy in harm’s way. Our loveable and fearless heroes find themselves joined together in the ultimate battle to protect the galaxy and in the fight for their own survival.

PlayStation 3

Crysis 2 — (Stereoscopic 3D) Whether played in 3D or standard 2D, Crysis 2 drops players into a devastated New York in the midst of an attack by a frightening alien species. The alien enemies are armed with deadly weaponry and exceptional sensory abilities that test players’ skill and push them to the limit. These terrifying invaders stalk the streets of New York, leaving the streets in chaos and the skyline in flaming ruin.

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars — LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars includes all the characters from both seasons of the hugely popular animated television series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as some fan-favourite characters from the beloved theatrical Star Wars Saga. The game features brand new battle modes, giving players unique, head-to-head combat and an upgraded level builder, allowing the creation of customized bases and in-game battlefields.

Tomb Raider Trilogy — Exclusively for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, this triple-pack of Lara Croft adventures includes Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary — both newly remastered in HD quality — as well as Tomb Raider Underworld, previously released on PlayStation 3. A number of items were also created exclusively for this pack, including a Tomb Raider Trilogy PlayStation 3 theme pack, the official Lara Croft female Home avatar outfit, the Viking Thrall male Home avatar outfit and a collection of “making of” trailers in HD for the entire series.

Dynasty Warrior 7 (Stereoscopic 3D) — Based on the epic novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the genre-defining Dynasty Warriors series depicts the massive battles ignited by the fall of the Han Dynasty when three rebellious states moved to overthrow the Emperor of China. Incredible might and power of warriors is born again in this seventh chapter of the dynasties with Shu, Wei, Wu and the new Kingdom of Jin, the state that superseded the Three Kingdoms period. Dynasty Warriors 7 will embrace new technology with full stereoscopic 3D.

Mayhem 3D — Mayhem is a fast paced arcade racing and car destruction game. The inspiration for the game comes from two distinct types of events: Demolition Derby and Banger Racing.

PlayStation Network

DC Universe Online — A massively-multiplayer experience, DC Universe Online brings high-energy action to the forefront with a combat system designed to deliver a fast-paced action experience with the extraordinary powers of your personally created heroes and villains at your disposal. Battle with or against their favorite DC Super Heroes and Villains including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Joker. For the very first time, players and fans will be able to enter this fabled world as an active force for good or evil.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime — Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is a four player, ghost-busting adventure that will take players on a brand new paranormal experience. Gamers will suit up with their proton packs and assume the role of a rookie hired by the Ghostbusters to save New York City from a disaster of ghoulish proportions.

Swarm — Swarm lets the player take control of 50 utterly fearless Swarmites and drive them through an intense, entertaining and often suicidal battle for a greater good. Run, bash, huddle, boost, stack, jump, push and throw your way through gauntlets of death and destruction in an attempt to collect valuable DNA and ensure that at least one Swarmite survives. With a unique combination of mass character control and fast action, the resulting brutal aftermath will make players want to play Swarm over and over again.

Battle: Los Angeles — Battle: Los Angeles gives players the opportunity to relive the thrill of the movie as they fight alongside characters from the film to defend the city of Los Angeles from attacks from unknown forces in fast and frantic first-person shooter gameplay. New characters will descend onto the scene and unexpected plot twists are revealed as players discover who seeks vengeance upon Naruto.

PSone Classics

Legend of Mana — The world of Fa’Diel is a formless mass. It is up to you to create the world, using artifacts that are spread throughout the world. At the beginning of the game, the player must choose a female or male character, a starting weapon, and place to start. Once in the starting area, the player will be able to complete a small quest and find more artifacts. With that done, the new artifacts can be placed on the map to create new areas that have their own unique mini-quests. There is a total of 60 quests and artifacts to discover. The best way to think of all of the stories is to consider them the songs on a record. Individually, they are great; however, when combined they make up something much larger. The world of Fa’Diel will become what you make it in Legend of Mana.

[Editor’s Note: The following dates are subject to change. Game details are gathered from Press Releases from their individual publishers and/or ESRB rating descriptions.]

  • these newer ps1 games thats been released sucks. i wanna see space jam or casper. anything like that except rpg games. i cant seem to find those anywhere and if i do there rediciously high priced.

  • You guys do know that ps1 games (The actual Physical discs) can be played on the PS3 right? There are LOTS of places online to get them.

  • Makin sure we readin’ it , we passed da test lol Rey you are awsome! Yo post iz what I wait 2read every Sunday, you do a great job! I think I might rent Crysis 2 cuz’ it’s only 10hour campaign, plus I need my money for when Mortal Kombat and L.A. Noire come out. Then later on in da year I will be gettin’ Hunted, Rage, and my favorite series new Silent Hill in October. God bless you Rey have a good week and I already know Back to da Future episode 2 : Get Tannen comes out next week.

  • Quick question, not sure if you can answer it.

Will Tomb Raider Underworl have seperate trophies then the older underworld? And will it have the 360 DLC included?

  • @33 Splinter Cell hd got pushed back homie. It iz comin’ out in a few months. I’m thinkin’ bout’ tradin’ my Fight Night : Champion in 2get da Tomb Raider trilogy.

  • @53 Underworld has exact same trophies, anniversary and legend have a set of 42 trophies each. Go to ps3trophies.org to check out trophy list.

  • @45 what up digitalman ya Move Heroes iz 39.99 and so iz tomb raider trilogy. Check out demo if you haven’t already on psn store. It waz exclusive for plus members but now it iz available for every1!

  • Crysis 2!

  • wow!!! so many great stuff :D. looking forward to Tomb Raider Trilogy!

  • Quick question, though. Dissidia o12 (Final Fantasy)… How long will the additional content be up on PSN Store? Is it a limited time only or it will definitely here for a long time to come…??? Thanx. (The one I am referring to Prologue content along with Aerith/Aeris as a bonus Assist Character).

  • Yo, I definitely like the new look of the blog and the The Drop layout. Took a while to adjust but it Looks really sleek and dope especially the logos.

Question though, I thought Dynasty Warriors 7 had Move Support? I just checked the wiki and it looks like koei did announce it. Any update on that?

Other than that, looks like another good crowded week for games especially since this week this the 3DS launch week. It would be nice if publishers would just space out them once and while.

  • Hell ya, that’s a lot of 3D goodness. Thx Sony.

  • Tomb Raider trilogy has a lil’ extra bonus content: a ps3 theme, 2 outfits for Home, and extra videos and maybe cutscenes (I heard 73 minutes of extra video/makin’ of tomb raider/cutscenes) Not great bonus but it’s free, 39.99 for all 3 games in hd wit trophies iz worth it alone 2me!

  • Jeff can you please look at this and comment on this. Where is Puzzle Quest 2 for PSN? it was supposed to release last year, and there is no info on this. Can you guys get some info if this is still ever coming?

  • Here’s another vote for adding Parasite Eve 2 to the roster for next week! (Or as a last minute addition this week I suppose!) Thank you!!!

  • i though dynasty warriors 7 got changed to come out on March 29

  • Where’s my Parasite Eve 2?!?! I NEED!

  • Kinda sad I was hoping to play PE prior to the 3rd Birthday

  • Should just include the prices of the items in the post each week since you end up having to answer questions about every time. Just a thought to help cut down on the same responses you have to give there Rey

  • It be sweet if the PSP version of Hoard matched up with the PSN version.

  • Very curious as to how Crysis 2 turns out. I wouldn’t mind playing a FPS where you’re a super powered dude, a lot of other games these days have you playing as a regular joe. That and the game looks lovely.

  • @Stanpy did you mean PE2? PE1 is out already for $5.99…but I need the sequel now :P

  • I still need an answer about if Dissidia 012 is going on PSN or was that a mistake.

  • Tomb Raider Collection & Legend of Mana. Best of both world in my opinion. PS3 & PS1 games. Now all we need now to make this a complete set are PS2 games on PSN.

  • It should be a requirement to for Mini’s to have demos. I have no idea what they are when browsing through the PS Store.

  • i wish legend of legaia is next :D

  • Oh man, this site redesign makes everything look great.

I’ll be purchasing Legend of Mana. 8D

  • Hey, Rey… about PS1 classics.

Is there a way you could find out why Star Wars: Dark Forces doesn’t work on the PS3? It will work on my system about 1 times in 50, but the rest of the time it doesn’t respond to any button press except the Start button and eventually locks up.

This is a well-known problem, documented across many forums (including the official PlayStation forums run by Sony), and it would be great to get a fixed version of it up on the store.

The store still advertises it as PS3/PSP, but it only has the emulation/lockup bug on the PS3.

  • I love all the great PS1 classics that have been released lately, such as Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, and now Legend of Mana. But you guys need to give us time to play these great games! At any rate, I’ll be picking up Legend of Mana for sure. I love that $5.99 price tag!

  • Anyone who hasn’t checked out the launch trailer for Swarm on ps3trophies.org, you are missing out on some good stuff. check it out here: http://www.ps3trophies.org/news/news-3102-Swarm-Launch-Trailer-Stars-Psycho-Swarm-Girl.html

    Awesome!!!

And when is the US getting Mass Effect 2 DLC?

  • I got my Duodecim and 3rd Birthday on a full paid pre-order, with ff4 complete on the way with the Cecil costume code, gonna get prolgous to have Aerith assist me. parasite’s eve to renew the story for me. damn, Square-Enix is gonna have a good year with all the re-releases!

  • I got Dissidia 012 on friday 4 days b4 release thanks to some connections. So ive played about five hours so far and its pretty cool. check out the gameplay footage on youtube. (my channel is UncleJemima570 no, this isnt spam or a lie.

  • oh sorry channel is UncleJemima57 not UncleJemima570

  • I wish I had known Tomb Raider Trilogy was coming out before I bought Underworld after Square Enix bought the rights. Hopefully Anniversary and Legend will be released as digital downloads.

I see the rumors were true, Legend of Mana is coming. Square Enix seems to have gotten their heads screwed on straight. I wish Konami would follow suit. Next week I’ll be happy though once CLoS Reverie and Moon Diver are released.

So I guess this week I’ll be sitting out on purchases. Back to MvC3 (PS3) and 360 games.

  • Awesome !! Thanks for the reply Rey. $9.99 is a fantastic price for Ghostbusters.

  • Are those fancy “The Drop” logos new?

  • we need gt 1 and 2

  • eh looks like nothing more me this week. nothing just looks interesting at the moment.

  • Does anybody know when the next episode for the Back to the Future game is coming out. I bought and enjoyed the first episode and been waiting ever since. Thanks for any feedback. :)

  • Is Legend of Mana different from Secret of Mana (SNES)?

I know that seems like a silly question, but I’ve seen games get name tweaks when they were ported to other systems.

  • gonna give crysis 2 a rent, will be buying ghostbusters and possibly swarm.

  • How much is Battle:LA? 9.99$?

  • Will there be a SINGLE PLAYER demo of Crysis 2? Played multi, but for me a good sp campaign really defines the game. WWE All-Stars: will be checking this out after the DRECK that was SvR 2011. And I’ve played its predecessors. Looks like they dumbed dowh the controls.

  • Any idea if you can play Legend of Mana with a friend online? I got a few friends that would be interested in doing just that.

  • awesome ghost busters!

  • i saw the post about buying online. you cant if you dont have a credit or debit card. plus the shipping prices are to high. so id rather buy for 5.99 instead of paying like 15 for one game thats ps1.

  • First off, I AM LOVING all the awesome RPGs being thrown our way on PSoneclassics :D

    Second, GHOSTBUSTERS! WOO!

  • I hope you guys get Ape Escape up soon. I’d get it within a heartbeat.

  • Ray, no you can’t put a PS1 disc in your PSP, but if you own a PS3 with a PSP, that’s what remote play is for.

  • Dynasty Warriors 7 get…. eventually.
