Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy Coming to PS3 With 3D

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy for PS3

For the last few months, we’ve been working on bringing the first three Splinter Cell games – Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory – to the PS3. Splinter Cell and Sam Fisher don’t need an introduction; these three games are highly acclaimed games and it has been a great pleasure for us to work on these titles.

The PS3 Game

When we started this project, one of our main goals was to provide the players with the best possible content. Hence we decided to port the game from the PC version which had more content and detail compared to the PS2 version.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy on PS3 will include:

  • Graphics in HD resolution
  • 3D Stereoscopic support for 3D TVs
  • Some exciting and challenging Trophies

Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and talk briefly about the gameplay and original titles.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy for PS3

Core Gameplay

Splinter Cell games are third-person, stealth-based action games under the Tom Clancy license. You play as Sam Fisher, a highly trained secret agent who works for the Third Echelon, a new NSA initiative. Stealth is the main theme of the gameplay: You will have to walk in shadows and remain invisible, leaving no trace of your existence. Throughout the game, you will receive information and instructions from your handlers. As Sam, you have access to a number of skills and gadgets that you will have to use wisely in order to progress. You will have to plan your moves and manage your resources effectively.

Original Games

Splinter Cell: First released in 2002. The story of Splinter Cell begins in Georgia, where a newly recruited Fisher is dispatched in order to gather intelligence about the disappearance of two CIA officers. As the story evolves, Sam discovers that a nuclear weapon has been planted on the US soil. Sam must do everything possible to stop the nuclear bomb from detonating.

Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow: First released in 2004. The US embassy in East Timor is taken over by an anti-separatist Indonesian Militia named Darah Dan Doa, led by Suhadi Sudano. Sam is sent to gather intelligence, and he discovers a plot that involves a biological bomb attack on the US. Sam has to race against time to save the day.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: First released in 2005. In East Asia, a US battleship is sunk by a North Korean missile, resulting in a war between North Korea and the U.S.. North Korea claims that the missile was launched unintentionally. While out to gather information, Sam discovers about a plot that may start World War III and he must stop to it at any cost.

We believe all these along with the original gameplay mechanics will make the Splinter Cell HD a nice treat for PS3 owners. These games will be available in a Trilogy Pack on Blu-Ray, and individually on PSN.

Hope to see you soon — with your night-vision goggles on!

  • Tom Clancy? Who’s that?

    • Hey folks, I’ll be around to answer some questions throughout the day, so feel free to post them in the comments.

  • Now that’s awesome. How about the multiplayer? I only ever heard how good it was for these games.

    • Unfortunately the answer to this question is no, the online part of the original games won’t be included.

  • Saweeet, I played the original Splinter Cell, and Chaos theory when they were released and enjoyed them a lot. I never played Pandora Tomorrow so there’s a new story I get to enjoy as well. Definitely thinking of picking them up again to get the shiny HD visuals and TROPHIES nomnomnom.

  • What about the spys vs. mercs. multiplayer???????????????????????

  • this is all cool well super cool but games needs more then one player there need two. :)

  • Cool. Now when are we getting Splinter Cell: Conviction?

  • Nice to see this after knowing Socom 4 = FAIL!!

  • Thank you VERY much, Ubisoft, for offering those of us who paid money in ADVANCE 3 months ago for this collection an explanation as to why when we went to Gamesotp to pick this up on March 23rd to be told that it wasn’t in stock, and a day AFTER release that it had been delayed! Really, that’s a great way to treat your customers!!

  • More PS2 games on PSN please[or better still. . .SONY bring back PS2 B/C on a PS3, i would buy it DAY 1] ;P

  • @3 u played the best 2 games out of the 4 released on ps2. chaos theory was sublime

    • The Splinter Cell Trilogy will be hitting retail stores as a bundle and the PlayStation Store as individual games and a bundle including all three games.

  • I aways wanted to play these…

    Thank you Ubisoft. Thank you!

So, what about the multiplayer? There is or there isn´t?

  • SWEET!
I ,chuck norris will play as agen fisher

  • i wish the option for stealth was in more games. especially gta. the option to choose methods of play is what made games like hitman amazing. speaking of which, giz a hitman trilogy (or atleast contracts) and new versions of it and SC. and gta. and free beer with each trophy

  • Online mode still there?

  • splinter cell conviction GOTY? What? Do a Team Ninja:)

  • Somebody knows what is happened with playstation latin page?

  • WHEN???

  • Online modes? Will they be supported?

  • If there is online, i buy, if not, then i wont buy

  • What Conviction?!……. damn…. sorry no sale, I can’t play the sequels on my PlayStation 3.

  • when is the release date?

  • Are you porting the PC versions or the PS2 versions?

  • Nice! Porting the PC versions over the PS2 versions is a huge surprise, I love it.

This collection was an instant purchase for me anyway, but I’m even more excited for it now.

  • I always liked Sam Fisher over Solid Snake.

  • Awsome! I played these games on the ps2 and they were awsome. I bet they’re gonna be even more awsome on the ps3!!

    • I played Chaos Theory when it first came out in 2005, so I’m pretty stoked to go through the first two. Trophies are also a plus :)

  • How about bringing. All GTA trilogy to ps3

  • Hey Alex,
When can we expect to see Splinter Cell: Conviction on the PS3? I’m not one bit interested in Splinter Cell trilogy, thank you though.

  • WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! you took out the co-op campaign from CT, bastards!!!!!!!!!!

  • If it had the online and co-op features from CT, I might have gotten this since I always hear good things about them, aw well, I will just stick to MGS for my stealth fix. Thanks though.

  • I played the original Splinter Cell on PS2 and it would be great to play it in HD on the PS3.

What will be the individual game downloads’ price point on the Playstation Store?

  • I am really excited for this set. I am still disappointed by the terrible Double Agent version and the lack of Conviction … but this set will do nicely since I preferred them.
This is a PC port, so has the graphics been upgraded/altered (such as the tomb raider trilogy set) or are they just upscaled? I have never played the PC versions so I am unaware of the original resolutions for said versions.

  • Wow. The games all look great in HD resolution. Will definitely be picking all 3 up.
Any word on how much this will cost?

  • hmmm no multiplayer… not going to be running out to the store anytime soon to get this now. This is a big omission imo.

  • Is this an upgraded Xbox 1 port or PS2 port?

    if Xbox i may buy.

  • never got the chance to play these games.. so this is terrific news..

  • 2Q only 1.the price of this game on the PSN Store? & 2.If Sony is going to release games like Mortal Kombat,Socom 4 or Brink & Crysis 2 in the PSN Store?Plz answer fast i thinking of leaving PS3 Comunity Because Sony is not ofering good PS3 Games on the store so answer to see if i need to sell my ps3.and move to the Xbox 360.i love ps3 but they not ofering good ps3 the only 2 good was MAG(too expensive on the store) & Mas effect 2.

  • Ok,maybe I missed something here. When does this release?

  • Great news!!!

Any details regarding frame rate and resolution?

    Thanks

  • @Carl-G – I have a sneaking suspicion that a PS2 emulator might magically appear on the PS3 around the time that the NGP is released…

  • Can’t freaking wait for this. Thanks guys, looks great in HD. Day one purchase

  • May I ask why Multiplayer is not in the collections. They were simply the best part of the games.

  • You need to be completely honest with us. The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time HD remake was absolutely horrible. Lets put it this way, I would rather play Sands of Time on PS2 than the HD remastered version. The sound was all echoed and low quality like I was in a tunnel. Made the game UNPLAYABLE.

Can you confirm that this trilogy has been PROPERLY brought over? I have not bought another Ubisoft game since that travesty, and likely won’t be getting another until From Dust releases.

    Thanks,
    @K1rkpad

  • The PC port :( , I know many people wanted the xbox missions.

  • I never got a chance to play any of the Splinter Cell series. But I am definitely interested, I will most likely buy this if it has a good price. Thanks for remastering these in HD it’s the next best thing to having BC.

  • Socom4=FAIL

  • You already sold me on this title (or titles, if purchased on the PSN). If you guys do a PS+ discount offer it’ll be PSN for sure. If not, I’ll stick with the good ol’ fashion BluRay disc.

  • Hell Yeah..!!
REALLY looking forward to this…I loved Splinter cell on PS2 back in the day..many enjoyable evenings playing
these Games…loved The story lines,Sam fisher and the whole dynamics of the ‘stealth’ kills..
I’ll deffo be buying this on Blu-ray…I actually never got to play the ‘conviction’ one, where sam gets framed….so hoping thats the nxt one coming along..with a ‘New’ Splinter cell game hopefully…;)
I’d Love to see the PS2 Emulator updated on PS3..I’d buy it in a heartbeat…
But,all the while their re-releasing all the old titles in HD..I.e God of war and now Splinter cell..
Sony Can make more money Doing this than installing a firmware PS2 update…
Either way..I’m not complaining TOO much…
Tell ya what Tho’ Sony…Would you like to Release the ‘SSX’ Games in HD remake…THAT would be
Awesome!!!…LOVE to play Tricky in HD..OMG>…:))..

  • Will the cost of getting all three on PSN be the same as buying the disc?
