PSN Update

622 0

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.

  • If any financial information has been stolen then you will be notified after an investigation has been conducted, it could be Sony or the issuing bank that will send you a formal written letter in the mail. In any case a stolen credit card number has no financial repercussions on the end user as unauthorized purchases are protected. Worst case scenario it’s a mild inconvenience and you have to get a new credit card. PSN does not store any information that could cause identity theft such as Tax ID’s, Social Security Numbers, or actually banking/routing numbers.

If you are that concerned about your credit card number being stolen then call the issuing bank and ask them to put a hold on the account. Until then remain patient.

  • @139 Thats BS. I am now reading on other sites that Sony is not even aware of whether or not our CC info was stolen… This is five days later… Unacceptable. We should in fact be more in the loop with our financial information.

As for your comment about other “corporations”, most brick and mortar places do not store your credit card info so it is not a problem. As for online retailers who store said information, I have in fact received emails from that after intrusions saying that my CC may have been accessed, and then was given a follow up to whether it actually was or not. More than one online outlet has done this, its just good business practice. Maybe Sony does not HAVE TO tell us what is going on with our financial info, but it sure as hell would be nice if they did.

  • Guess I can catch up on single player games tell then :) thanks for the updated info.

  • @DazeOfWar I also remember when there was no online gaming, but I also remember when there was no internet or even cell phones, bet you would be pissed if you didnt have the net or a cell phone all of a sudden. You would ask the same question, “whats up?” With you just wanting to find out why you cant use a service you pay for, yes I am a plus member so I pay for the service.

    with that said…

Thats all we are asking, “whats up, Sony?”

  • At least I can be thankful for one thing during this whole mess . . . I realize how much of a life I don’t have outside of gaming. Good time to go outside and try to find one.

  • Will this outage effect our psn plus access. Since I bought a 3 month access and have only got to use it for like a month or less.

  • Shadowcrazy,
OtherOS was removed to maintain the integrity of the PSN experience. It created the potential for game code to be altered in a persons favor, ie cheating, aim bots, ect. Unfortunately OtherOS and PSN could no longer coexist. Users were given the option to not upgrade and maintain the OtherOS feature. For the remaining PSN users this meant they could enjoy a cheat free online experience.

Also, I am a PS+ subscriber but this outage hardly affects that. I may have to wait longer to get some of the newer downloads but they have already provided me with plenty of content to hold me over.

  • I’ve been having network problems since a week before the outage was confirmed, but it’s alright. This isn’t Sony’s fault, I realize you’re doing everything you can to resolve the situation and I appreciate the effort you’re putting in to do so. I’m content to kick back with a single player game until the issue’s resolved, and thanks for the updates.

  • @Xanthene – you really disappoint me still defending SONY and with flawed points as well…otherOS removal was never an OPTION…they forced a choice on you to either have OtherOS or PSN…so in that situation they still take from you…how you can defend a company forcing these choices on people makes me shake my head in disgust.

as for PS+ you can feel happy your money is going down the drain but unlike you me and others payed for the use of the ENTIRE year…so if I can’t even access the PSN to take use the PS+ that I payed for an entire year then it’s an issue..

  • I’m just hoping that it comes up tomorrow because it’s my Birthday! :) Just hope to get a free game if it is’nt by Wed. I miss PSN (SOB). I do have friends from out side PSN anyway. Bye!

  • if you actually think this is an update, you are the definition of a Sony drone…

  • I’m so amazed when I read these comments. Now I can understand compensation for people who have paid for services that they can only access via PSN. People with the plus subscription and DC Universe maybe, cause a lot of them are upset. But you guys are asking for constant updates? What is that gonna do? If they’re working to bring it back up the more someone has to come to the blog and feed some little tiny bit of news the less that person will be working on assisting with the network, if they are assisting at all. So really, find something else to do and check back tomorrow. If anyone would like to help me with my Sociology in your boredom, by all means get in touch with me.

  • “Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.”
    An obvious lie.

What he really meant to say was..

Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time, that I can share.

    >_>

Probably the usual corporate BS preventing this guy from engaging & revealing in any details. But again, this shows how “diligently” they are working around the clock.

Yea. Sony. Good job. You’ve been pissing off millions of people around the world and the fact that you guys don’t even tell us what the heck is going on and give us an ETA… That’s just risking it all.

I mean what’s the point of redoing your network so late in the game if it takes so long to the point where people just get fed up and sell their PS3 and PSP units and games? I’m sure there’s already cases of people who have done so out of severe frustration.

These kinds of “updates” serve no purpose other than adding fuel to the flame. People are furious so please be prepared for your flame shields.

  • I really hope sony can kick out all the cheaters and hackers from PSN. I dont care how long it takes, while it´s done for good.

  • Shadowcrazy,
Decisions like these have to be made for the good of the whole and not the individual. This may be a Kantian view but maintaining a level playing field for all users ultimately was more important than keeping the OtherOS. It was a nice feature to display the power of the PS3 and it would have been nice if they could continue to coexist. I had linux installed but was more for a novelty then practical use. I hope you understand Sony had to make that decision for every user.

  • I hope this does end soon. It is sad that now most on here are turning against each other. I guess once again I will say that you just have to love America. lmao

  • I haven’t seen any extra charges on my debit card I use to purchase things from the PSN thus far. I don’t really feel like taking the chance that it will, so I plan to have my bank reissue my debit card.

As long as they aren’t in posession of your bank account or routing numbers, its a relatively easy fix for us consumers. Have your bank reissue your debit card (if you use one).

I also believe that most credit card companies have some form of fraud protection to aid the consumer. I never use credit cards, but if I did, I’d call them to let them know what has happened and ask them what you should do.

  • just bought an xbox and sold my ps3

good work and if my credit card information was stolen ill be suing as well

  • If you guys feel a little sorry we can’t play games you could throw in X-game chat while you’re at it? Or a few Twisted metal Beta invites or Resistance 3 or uncharted 3 betas. lol

  • also sony your PR is worse than BP’s. you should be ashamed of yourselves.

  • please, i want to play bad company 2 :(

  • @ dizeeStL I find it very unlikely you did any of what you said. You are @ Lvl 14 with 12 Plat trophies you have a total 1,789
    Ranked: #9,823, (2,344)
    Total Games Played: 50
    Score: 38,955
Last Update: April 20 at 10:12am

Also you are a member of PS+ so just quit talking BS and wait like the rest of us.

  • seanscythe would you like to see my receipt u geek

  • the other OtherOS option was removed because Sony wasnt able to alter the code and make a hole in this feature (see Hotz) disappear…. Instead they took the easiest route and disabled the PAID FOR FEATURE (see massive lawsuit filed against Sony in japan, US and World Court)… We were not given an option to not upgrade (if u had online games, u had to!)… Now we see, yet again, Sony’s inabilty to fix code… Althou this time it’s the entire PSN thats at issue…

  • i hope that sony adds the needed feature like cross game voice chat to compensate this downtime…

  • also sony you better reimburse people

psn plus is paid on a MONTHLY base. we will soon be approaching a week of this nonsense and have been unable to access a service which we PAID for.

DCUO users also deserve compensation. they pay a monthly fee to play DCUO and they are also unable to play due to sonys terrible handling of this issue and i am sure there are other people who need to be reimbursed,

imagine going to buy tickets for a baseball game and that game gets RAINED OUT. You are not getting the service you paid for so you get a REFUND. well this is a similar situation and sony needs to stop messing around and atleast update us on whats going on. terrible PR what a joke of a company and all the sony fanboys who defend em still are even more pathetic.

and if my cc/bank info gets stolen from sony I will be figuring out what step to take next. they better start off by updating us more on the situation and reimbursing people.

  • I suspect lawsuits whenever Sony can get the PSN up and running again…especially by the millions of PS+ users.

  • …and the way I see it, after it gets put up (eventually), Sony will probably give us some BS saying like

Thank you for your patience. We hope that the wait was not too troubling..

    >_>

Sony needs better PR and better IT.

  • Yeah, not like it would be hard to fake but why not humor us.

  • “As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly.”

..I’d rather you worked slowly and carefully, and then brought it back up when it’s ready and actually secure.

P.S. Also, aren’t you all relieved now that the infinitely revised EULA states so clearly – that Sony doesn’t have any kind of responsibility for any outages? Just think what would have happened if people actually paid for the service, and you didn’t have that clause! Say, if they paid for a game with online – and expected the online to be included in the disc-price. Really, that would have been a disaster for Sony, wouldn’t it, if the EULA didn’t explicitly give the customer the shaft. Good thing you escaped all problems and possible crises this time – or the backlash from the abysmal customer-service would have been huge! *phew* Dodged the bullet there, Playstation!

  • Also by geek if you ment smart enough to type ur PSn name in and find your info then yeah thanks.

  • I took everyones advice this weekend and went outside, I met this woman and she said she loved to play games as well. So I joined the club she’s in, called the BDSM Gamers club. Can someone please tell me wtf BDSM stands for?

  • @fleinn
You have to realize that working slowly & carefully to fix something is 1 thing, but when it takes them over 2 days and without any reason of what is going on as well as an actual ETA, that is when things get ridiculous.

  • Lets see here, lets look at the facts.

    Fact 1:
    Hackers attacked the PSN.

    Fact 2:
Sony shuts down PSN due to attack.

    Fact 3:
People are mad because they can’t use a free service(not counting PS+, which I am a member of).

    Fact 4:
Sony is updating on a regular basis that they are still working on the network and trying to get it back up asap.

    Fact 5:
Sony is trying to also do improvements to the network while they have it shut down.

  • Now lets look at the results of these 5 facts.

    Result 1:
Sony Loyalists continue to trust Sony and thank them for the updates as well as the new features to the network.

    Result 2:
Flamers/Trolls continue to rag on Sony not realizing that XBox Live is just a money hole that gives the same stuff PSN gives for free.

    Result 3:
Sony makes more money for showing they care with the constant updates saying we are still trying

    Result 4:
With the new money coming in, Sony shows thanks to their users by a message saying thanks.

    Result 5:
Flamers/Trolls don’t feel like they got enough from Sony so they go to XBox live and leave the PSN in a better state.

I am willing to thank the hackers on the sole result of #5. Thank you, now, from here on, go bug Microsoft, they are used to hackers, leave Sony alone. Not to mention you’ll get farther going after Microsoft.

    Thank you for your time.

  • @ xxnike629xx

Are you stupid? Why would there be lawsuits? PS+ is a discount/bonus service. It has nothing to do with the PSN working or not. Just like if you get HBO on your cable service and the cable goes out. You are not going to sue the cable company because you can’t watch HBO. You can expect to be reimbursted for the cable since you pay for it. But PSN is free and PS+ is not causing you any thing other then not being able to download something or get a discount off a game or DLC. It will still be there when the PSN comes back on. Gawd you kids are so dumb you think you are entitled to everything and if you don’t get what you want you whine and moan like little girls when your dress gets something spilt on it.

  • @Swat: It was down during the holiday of 2007. We all got Undertow as a compensation. When I had Live I also had problems off and on with it just signing out.

I’m also a Plus member and I don’t understand why you think you are losing out on something. Did you not use the store this last Tuesday? I’m pretty sure Sony will extend any sales they had so people won’t miss out.

If my internet or phone went down yes I would be upset because I pay a monthly fee for those. PSN is free so I’m not losing any money and neither is anybody else. Yes the people who play DCUO should be compensated for the down time. They pay a monthly fee for that. PS+ is paying for the games not for the stability of PSN. When I had Live I did get upset when it went down because I was paying for it and yes I did have a Gold account before. My tag was Daze Of War if you don’t believe me. I have a gamerscore of 111,150 and it’s has just recently went silver.

@sid4peeps: What games do you think cost more because everything I have ever seen is the same price. Everything I can find is listed as the same price so maybe you can find something else to prove your FACT.

  • Now I know which system to buy in 2014 when the new consoles are supposedly coming out >:( and it won’t have a crappy sony logo on front

  • @ Kraikof

Thank you for bringing more then BS and crying to this topic.

I agree if this weeds out the cry babies and trolls to go to the 360 camp then by all means thank you hackers and sony for getting rid of these losers.

  • Lopez, you do know that ANY online network can be taken down if attacked right?

It’s just unfortunate PSN is the target this time.

  • @Sean how are we losers if all we want to do is play online? come on sony is doing a TERRIBLE job. Are you really happy with the info they are giving us?

  • @Apprentice yes I know and it sucks that its sony. Im not mad about that, im pissed about the lack of updates they are giving us they are like a broken record repeating themselves over and over

  • @ Lopez9577

Yeah because I work in this field and they are giving us the info we need to know without giving info on what is being fixed to the hackers that did it.

    1. They are working on it.
    2. It’s being rebuilt.
    3. They are adding increased security.
    4. It is slow and takes time.
    5. It’s free and cost me nothing to wait.
    6. PSN wants built in a day and when you have to rebuld that and increase the security and make sure everything is Restored it takes a long time.
    7. I rather it take a week then just put it up and then my account get reset or trophies deleted before it was tested correctly.

You are a loser because you think you are entitled to it working 100% of the time and if it is down that you get something in return. In this day and age kids like urself have to have everything instantly, if it takes longer then that you get moody and need a nap.

  • Thanks ive always wanted to be a Loser :) And im glad it makes you feel better trying to talk down to me. You must have graduated from Princeton or something man congrats you are sooooooooooo AMAZING!!!!

  • internet argument!

  • Glad I could help and next time you try your hand at sarcasm maybe leave it to the pros because you really suck at it.

  • Trolls trolling. Just don´t feed them. Your words are like chicken for them, if they are vegetarian your words are salad

  • @162 on wicjh topic are you on ??! You may ude this blog as am example ;) jk
