Service Restoration Update

333 0

As you may know, we’ve begun the process of restoring the service through internal testing of the new system. We’re still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system. Verifying the system security is vital for the process of restoration. Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online.

As you’ve heard us say, our utmost priorities are the security of the network and ensuring your data is safe. We won’t restore the services until we can test the system’s strength in these respects.

When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system. We know many of you are wanting to play games online, chat with your friends and enjoy all of the services PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have to offer, and trust me when I say we’re doing everything we can to make it happen. We will update you with more information as soon as we have it. We apologize for the delay and inconvenience of this network outage.

  • Alright So another 7-14 days Im thinking, thats my guess people, only time will tell

  • “a very intelligent team in place, cyberterrorists…anyone??”

Would just say that, in terms of malicious behavior, they’d just met their match this time.

  • Won’t be back up until E3…

  • Mr13ig_13ong_Rip

Sounds like more stalling tactics. You know if you just kept it “real” we would appreciate that a lot more than repeating what you said on the last 6 “updates”. It’s beginning to sound like a freakin scratched cd, someone please throw that crap out the window like I do with crap that don’t play. Either post something with some idea to a date or just keep your “updates” to yourself. It’s ok to say you have no idea if you can even get it done before June. Keeping us hanging is wrong and if you expect to keep the following you had before this nightmare surfaced then I would suggest that you stop feeding us a line and man up and tell us the truth, we can take it.

  • My best guess is that if you don’t have something as good as Cross Game Chat included to the PSN when it’s back up, Sony will not recover its runaway to xbox fans.

  • I haven’t seen Jeff in a while. Kinda miss you.

  • That statement doesn’t offer much hope for the network being up anytime soon, there were rumors of the 17th now that’s starting to look more and more likely.

  • People who post comments here are so ridiculously ignorant. Seems like most of you want another insecure system than rather letting them sort things out.

    @Clinton,

You hit the nail on the head. Then again I’ve preached to the nulls of these blogs before, and gave up a long time ago. Might as well, use Maxwell’s, silver hammer, and give them all a lobotomy. I think it would do, the world a favor (personally.)

On, that note nothing is “perfect”. Rewritting several million lines of code cannot be easy. Much less if it has to pass Quality & Assurance to and then go, through testing. It’s all about patience. I know many of you are short on that or in need of dire supply, but never forget that nothing is “perfect”. Disney World’s grand opening was horrific at best and a blunder to say the least. Yet people still go, there in the droves every day, all day three hundred and sixty five days of the year.

  • i can honestly see the stock in sony hitting a volatile low in the coming months. i am just glad i do not own any sony stock!

  • I love the optimism of some users. I wish I had half as much faith in Sony as they do.

  • They have till May 21 to restore the online. After that I’m through with PSN

  • Mr13ig_13ong_Rip

    @ Rorek_IronBlood

I don’t think its a lack of patience bud, its more like a lack of interest in being lied to and strung along. Of course nothing is perfect we understand that. How do you expect people to be patient when they say the same thing every time they post an update. They should at least have the decency to call it rain when they are pissing on my head. If you expect me to believe that some of the best IT minds in the world could not give Sony an idea of how long this process would take, then maybe you are the one who needs lobotomized.

Granted they did say originally it would be 2-3 days and then they found the extent of the intrusion was greater than previously thought so they recanted and said “within the week”. So wouldn’t you think after the new discovery they had a pretty good idea of how much work they were facing? If I was Sony I would take some drastic steps towards damage control and if need be hire as many people as it took to get this bird off the ground. Heck they are already facing a 6.75% loss in the stock market, I would be very nervous when the stock opens Monday morning. Can anyone say crash and burn?

  • They are probably waiting for E3 before they announce the launch date of the PSN.

And this is based on…? Can you share your facts, please? I’m just dying to know the truth.

    Good luck, chummer.

  • Sony I can’t help, but feel betrayed! You said this week and it sounds like that is not going to be the case. I understand that certain elements are beyond your control, but a promise is a promise. Bring the PSN online VERY SOON. I am seriously questioning my loyalty to the PlayStation brand because of this.

  • @Mr13ig_13ong_Rip

Yea, I agree with you. It is not really about lack of patience. It’s more like breaking a promise. When Sony said within a week last Sunday (in Japan), I was expecting to be able log on to PSN again at least during the weekend. Now I and many users have to wait again… Well I have several PC games need to be finished so I might as well deal with that.

Oh, btw, maybe Monday is a good time to buy Sony’s stock if you are willing to take the risk. LOL

  • Thanks for your hard work, everyone.

    Take your time. :)

  • Resurrected-X460

No problem. If those jerks are willing to attack us again, Do something which they’ll never see it coming.

  • Message from Dreamcast, circa 2001:

It can happen to the best of us.

  • Could this have something to do with the supposed hacker attack that is supposed to take place this weekend? Seriously, damn these hackers! Why can’t they go and mess with Microsoft for a while? This is getting more and more ridiculous with each passing day.

  • I am a PlayStation user since way back first gen. So are some of you. It’s the only system some of us own. We have toally become dependant on PSN Online. I use it mostly for PlayStation Home. All my friends are there when the Network is up so this has been hard on all of us.

The network is in the final stages of testing but it’s not ready. If it’s not ready then and they are consistantly working on it then I respect that. What else can they do? Give us a time? That didn’t work out so far so why would they give us another date and have something come up and delay it more? They are doing it right. Give updates until it’s ready then when it is let the users know.

They know we are frustrated and upset. They are too. We love the PS3 and PSN. Reading some of the last 3 pages has been an embarrasment. WE are PS3 users. WE have the best console on the planet! WE WILL get through this! Show your support and stop giving those other fan boys ammunition to use.

    WE ARE PS3 USERS!

  • Well..No surprises really..But,Sony Did post a letter From Mr.Howard Stringer earlier this week to say it would probably be delayed until Nxt week..so Kinda knew it was’nt gonna be up this weekend..!!
More practise on Mortal Kombat then..N half way thru’ Portal 2 which is epic and can’t wait till its online…:)
I have no gripes at all with the network down tho’..actually quite nice having an extended break..makes me appreciate it that little bit more..and its the first time its been down this long since the PS3 was released..
Tell ya what Sony,Try not to post anymore updates on updates about ur updates..then Peeps won’t get anxious and annoyed about what ur NOT doing…lol….
Think u guys are doing a grand Job tho’…keep it up..!

  • 3 week with no PSN not good sony

  • Wonderful.

  • anyone know if the ps2 can get online??

  • Yeah people talking about Sony’s stocks and business practices…..you guys DO realize that Sony Computer Entertainment is just ONE of the MANY departments that the entire company has, right? Derr Derr…

  • This is becoming really old. I got rid of my 360 last year for playstation because it was a better brand all the way around with better games ,and more variety. The other reason was i was sick of paying 50 dollars a year to get “PWNED” by 5 year olds on Halo where i could play Call of Duty/Killzone online which is a very similar experience for free. Although the subscription on top of what i pay over the year for my internet was ridiculous at least it didn’t go out like this. Just because something doesn’t come at the same price as someone else’s similar service doesn’t mean the service should of lesser quality than this.

This outage is out of laziness. When “anonymous” first started strikes months ago that should of been a que to nip this in the bud. Instead it was let go ,and now we keep getting fed more [DELETED] every few days.

Dont make promises you can’t keep. Why don’t you just over shoot your expected renewel date so that way you don’t have to keep making delays.

One thing is for sure you guys are missing out on plenty of cash from me during this time out as i’ve been itching to get alot of stuff on PS Store ,but oh well

  • A Common sense, Don’t give a time or a deadline if u can’t hold up ur end of your bargain. we are already waiting and u have build up our excitement that this week would be it and now this phhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • It only does oft-lying!

I’ve had it worse than any of you. My PS3 actually ylod’d in the *middle* of the network crash. Like a tool, I just ran out and got a Slim, sure, but now there’s nought I can do with it.

Can’t access games I’ve purchased because PSN is down.

Can’t restore my old games because PSN is down and some [DELETED] DRM software engineering fool thought it would be a good idea that to restore your system there needs to be a bloody link to your PSN account through ‘system activation’.

Hence, can’t play Wipeout. I’m sitting here playing single player Motorstorm, which isn’t bad, but isn’t the experience I originally purchased. Serious withdrawal here.

  • one more week and i want free ps4 in my welcome back package;)

  • RinoRichardCroft

I just hope the service will be back ASAP and in a shape that surpasses our expectations.

  • Thanks for at least acknowledging that the time frame you gave us was inaccurate, I hope you guys have PSN up by early next week I got some cousins coming over and no doubt were gonna be playing some lbp2 and some cod black ops, online for both of course. It’s nearing a month, please get it up soon.

  • @ ZamZa

that’s the thing though, if they don’t give us a time frame people will complain that they aren’t giving us a time frame and they should at least give us an estimate of when it will be back up, which they did do, but then it comes to the problem that if they do give a estimate and they couldn’t meet it for whatever reason, the people will complain either way. So in a way I can see why Sony isn’t giving us a new time frame, its really a lose lose situation in that aspect.

  • It’s 19 days. 19 DAYS. About 2 weeks and 5 days. You guys said it will be up within a week but that’s a lie. Now the CEO guy says in the coming days it will be up. That’s probably a lie as well. Also, quit with the updates that we already know. Update within a past update doesn’t help. Just hurry up and get it back up running and better secured than before.

  • Just put PSN online, I suppose even how “secure” you make it someone will manage to break it, I’m sure there is many “hacked” places around wich does not even know / will find out they have been hacked!, no reason for going bananas but regards to sony for finding out and trying to fix it. But the time using for fixing it and for testing is taking far too long!, it could be like this: we fixed the network, let’s put some “hackers” on it and let them try to hack it in some weeks, if they does not manage it then we can put it online… The bad news is that those clever security people is usually one step behind the best hackers always :(

  • Sony and fans alike, we are all effected by this and are in it together. Be patient. I would think Sony has taken a harder hit than then gamers without the network for a few weeks, especially just after the earthquake.

  • and wait we shall..

  • Not like you got a choice. I’ve had to ignore about more than half the comments here that can’t seem to make up their mind. “Give us an update”, then they’re pissed because they don’t get an ETA. They keep bugging for a date and when they CAN’T give a date then they moan about how they STILL don’t have it yet. When they GET a date, they’re pissed because they can’t meet the pressure induced deadline. Might as well ask them to see into the future to see when exactly the BRAND NEW infrastructure is 100% safe and secure enough to go public again to get an EXACT DATE…

So those of you that were so quick to turn your back on the service you took for granted, I’m sure you’ll have your Black Ops soon, I just hope you realize those that constantly filled the blog comments with immature moaning and whining didn’t accomplish a thing other than looking like a 5th grader with bad grammar; congratulations.

  • i swear im am going to sell all my sony stuff and go microsoft if they dont have psn up by the end of this week

  • The wait doesn’t bother me, the fact we all get a timetable and then is was incorrect makes me a bit mad.
But no timetable makes me furious and this day-to-day and being let down is FAR worse.
Sony, just give us a REASONABLE time and SAY IT, I know you are a proud company and you have proud people working for ya, but this has got to STOP.
So give a date and stick to it and SOOOOOOOOO many PS3 owners will stick to you.

  • Eeek, that update hurt I won’t lie. I was really expecting it to be up this week. I’m a patient man but if it is not up by next week, I don’t know what I will do. I’m on the last level of the challenge tower in Mortal Kombat, and plan on finishing that last stage either today or tomorrow hopefully. After that I guess I will just do more Arcade runs for a while, but please please please have it up next week. Forever a Sony supporter, korgon117.

  • no mothers day from sony

  • Oh well. Hopefully by next week.

  • LOL – Sony. Lets just say…Karma is a..well, you know the rest.

  • Oh, and @106.

Dude, we aren’t voting for president here. Why are you preaching? Best console in the world? Sure doesn’t look like it right now. We been offline for about 2 weeks, going on 3, and Sony just delayed it, again. Its not really a surprise though, they seem to delay everything. Anyone remember when the PS3 first was announced, they delayed it? Yup! Anyway – we don’t need a preacher, we need for Sony to fix this crap, and stop throwing out [DELETED] lies on a daily freaking bases.

As for the “Coming days”. Sir. Howard Stringer I HIGHLY doubt that. How about coming weeks?

  • “We know many of you are wanting to play games online, chat with your friend” Er not really :D I am doing fine playing games off-line on my PS3 & really enjoying it;) (looking at this site over the 2 weeks you would think gaming has stopped tho) + i would rather they get it 100% secure than rush it.

  • Digital-Big-Boss

When PSN comes back, please include these games

    Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
    Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
    Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2

    Thanks
