Play On – PSN Restoration Begins Now

Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.

PSN-US-Wave-6

Map updated 12:03m Pacific

Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.

Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^

In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

  • Hey, Sony, I know you guys can’t do anything about it, but how are we supposed to play games that require online pass codes?

Do we have to wait until the store returns until we are able to input our codes for online play?

    A response would be nice.

    Thanks.

  • Mr. Seybold,

I bought a PS3 and a copy of Portal 2 because of the killer feature of Steam integration. Unfortunately, I bought it on the day PSN dropped. I wasn’t even able to create a PSN account until just this morning, and all of my Steam friends have of course, finished the game. I suffered the full breadth of the outage even though I had no account. My question is, am I going to miss out on the welcome back freebies? Seems unfair. Granted my personal details weren’t lost, but I still bought a $300 paperweight for 3+ weeks.

  • Yay! Thanks Sony!

  • FINALLY!!!

  • I just went 37-3 with the Famas. Thanks Sony I stayed loyal and didnt jump ship.

  • Yesss thanks Sony!

  • I rarely leave comments here we go. I have been here since the start , and by the start I mean since the original Playstastion. I believe that Sony and the Playstation family took care of this situation to the best you can and I congradulate you on doing so. We are here and support even those that goes way back from the begining. We hope justice comes to those that acted maliciously towards this service and this business industry.

  • Thanks Sony. You still own Xbox.

  • Yippeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Sony :o) Hopefully my EU friends are not far behind!

  • Waited up most of the night. PSN restored here in Texas at 2:00 a.m. CST.Friends list and trophies restored. Thanks Sony !!

  • Thank you, Sony! Glad that it’s back up. Nice work :) Happy to be a Sony loyal customer!

  • thank you sony. i know all your hard work is going to pay off in the end.

  • @120; Got that right.

  • @MadeByMonkey You still could have played any game that did not require an online passcode to be activated. If I recall correctly, that code was merely to integrate the game with your Steam account in order to have another digital copy of the game. You could have enjoyed the complete single player storyline. Also, you could have rented other games, transported music to your console, videos, played prior PS1 games IF you had them. And if your friends all had it on PC, why did you go out and purchase a PS3 just for Portal 2 in the first place? You can’t use your PS3 to play with PC players. Honestly, I see no reason why you should be compensated when you were not at risk what so ever.

  • Welcome Back PSN!! I’ll be watching the PS conference next month to see a full & detailed explination as to WHY IT TOOK SO BLOODY LONG to bring the network back up. Not a fanboy of any console. Had all 3 different times, never played online much on either WII or 360.

Never had a CC on the system, but if I did, the stupid hackers prolly wouldn’t get anything from me at all, as my Credit rating is shot as it is right now.

One question, will you guys be streaming the PS conf. on the PS3 when it comes time?

  • thanks sony even tho i got frustated by the end.i applaud your efforts at making the system more secure.as for the people complaining about the ps store, just be patient -.-.we already got the online which i think is enough for now.i can wait for the ps store.

  • football5678jtw

Thank you for everything you’ve done to get the psn back up.

  • Even though it may have took a while to get back online i would never sellout and buy an xbox, no way! I stay true to my my system all the way…!!!! Thanx SONY for everything!!!!!!

  • damm god finally thank u sony add me xxitslaloxx

  • The reason services were down so long, and the many experts stymied by lack of information are numerous. They slacked off in too many areas, more over time, until this inevitable result ensued. As a customer I do appreciate that they completely rebuilt the service authentication and network architecture with security in mind.

Sony: please do more to build security in at design and development phases, before any deliverables are committed to schedule and pushed out with only cursory functional testing completed. You also need to hire more top notch staff – or move the people who are preventing them from doing their work.

… oh yeah, when is the store going to back? any idea?

  • Great Job Sony, Up And Running Again !!

  • Thanks Sony! :D

  • Finally PSN is back online! i missed all my psn friends. Despite this outage and what i say about them involving the outage i always support sony :D we are officially the survivors of the 2011 PSN outage woot

  • Thank you Sony for finally turning the psn back on. I couldn’t even get into Netflix. Thanks a million times over, now I can play portal 2 coop. And please Sony dont let this happen again!

  • Good Job Sony!

  • sageofcelluloid

So when does the free month of PSN Plus that Stringer promised begin Sony?

  • YAYYY PSN IS BACK UP AND RUNNING HOPEFULLY NTHN HAPPEN LIKE DIS AGAIN *LAUGHS*

  • @BogHawk… lol.. I’m not whining or B#####ing.. I’m just pointing out facts.. You want to be all thankful and condemn others for their disloyalty so I laid down the facts as to why Sony deserves no loyalty or thanks.

If anything you’re the one B###ing about others people making their rightful decision to chose a different gaming console. No ones married to their PS3 bub… except maybe you… you sure do love Sony an awful lot

  • Nice Sony, keep up the awesome work, GRACIASSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much Sony. I never doubted you guys and waited patiently. Thank you for working hard to get the service back.
