Resistance 3 Box Art, Logos Revealed

Today we’re proud to reveal the Resistance 3 box art that you can hold in your hands when the game hits store shelves on September 6th. You should recognize right away that this graphic version of the Chimeran Skull with the New York skyline depicted as its teeth, as well as the stylized version of the Resistance franchise logo, isn’t your typical “rendered hero” box art. To create this new look, we partnered with Olly Moss, a talented British artist, to create a bold vision of the Resistance 3 box art for both the North American and European territories.

Resistance 3 box art

The Resistance team worked closely with Olly to share our vision for the Chimera-occupied 1957, and Joesph Capelli’s journey across the destroyed USA to his destination, New York City. You’ll see this in the alternate version of the art below, which shows Capelli walking towards the NYC skyline.

Resistance 3: Capelli Version

We wanted Olly’s work to reflect that in Resistance 3, YOU are the Resistance. Resistance 3 isn’t a military shooter, as the United States Army and SRPA have been destroyed. Instead, Resistance 3 is about the remnants of humanity finding any way possible to survive in a brutal world.

Resistance 3: Skull and Guns

This work coincides with Olly’s first art show in Hollywood at the Gallery 1988 (which runs until May 20th, if you’re in the LA-area). We’re excited about the new look of the box art and expect to see additional Resistance 3 art by Olly throughout the campaign. You can find out more info about Olly, and see more of his fantastic art, by checking out www.ollymoss.com.

You may have also heard that we will be bringing exclusive early access to a nearly half-hour single-player demo straight to your PS3 on June 14th! The demo will be included on specially-marked Blu-Ray copies of the Sony Pictures sci-fi action thriller Battle: Los Angeles (which you may recall from the now memorable Resistance 3 billboard spotted on a Sony film set). The demo level is the entire boat ride sequence of the game, as Joseph Capelli and Dr. Malikov discover a flooded town infested with Chimera. We hope you’ll enjoy the small taste of atmosphere, environmental storytelling and exciting action sequences you’ll see in the final version of Resistance 3 on September 6th.

As we lead up to E3 and the game’s launch, there’s still more news to come, so keep it tuned to our Twitter feed, Facebook and sign up to Join the Resistance for all the latest updates on Resistance 3.

  • By far one of the most bold box arts ive seen in awhile. I love it and hope to get it but havent played any of the previous… however after reading about the game and the story, you did not really have to play the previous because this is a new story

  • thats one ugly cover

  • I appreciate the attempt at symbolic, minimalist imagery, but I just don’t see the supposed concept of “you are the resistance” in that cover art. The symbolism really only shines in the first, full size, poster logo.

As far as box art goes, I’m sorry, but that’s ugly as sin. It doesn’t really give any kind of idea of the nature of the game to those unfamiliar with the franchise and, other than the bright orange clashing with the blue, gradient, PS3 logo bits, it doesn’t really jump out to the consumer. It’s like looking at a cropped movie teaser poster (the full size poster reminds me, a lot, of late 1960s/early 1970s era movie teaser posters, to be honest).

Not to start a flame war but remember your direct competition is coming out swinging the SAME month with this: http://epicbattleaxe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/gears-3-boxart.jpg – There’s no way anyone looking at that game’s box art will be confused as to the nature of the game, and the art itself pops from a consumer point of view. It’s artistic, draws on games story and premise, and will play to consumers who may have never played either game preceding it.

  • ths looks really good cant wait to get this game its gonna be EPIC!!!

  • Sorry but I don’t like the box art at all! I’m still buying this game though. I loved Resistance 2 and Resistance 3 looks like an improvement.

  • Is it OK if I put that on a t-shirt?

  • Pretty Cool. I like the teeth. Hows it New York!

  • Best cover art I have seen in awhile on a FPS title. Now to get rid of all those annoying logos on it.

  • So I’m the only lunatic who saw the eyes as airplane windows and the nostrils as the towers?

  • i love this game XD is the best XD

  • Meh, I have the first 2 games & I never really became interested in them, even though I tried my best in playing them. They just never “hooked me”. The covers for the first 2 were great, this ones just sort of “Ok”, I’d much rather see something else on the cover myself Resistance wise, instead of just a plain skull with the silhouette of the New York skyline as the teeth. They could’ve done better on this Box Art IMO.

  • I like it. Simple, yet effective.

  • I like the nyc skyline for the teeth.

  • I like the RESISTANCE RETRIBUTION art piece. That skull and cross guns worked well for that PSP game. Any chance for a James Grayson cameo?

  • I really don’t like that box art. It looks too plain and tacky.

  • Could we maybe have a boxart more like the R2 collectors edition for 3’s collector’s edition? I still can’t like this box art, it really is possibly the most unfitting box art for a game I’ve ever seen lol. Maybe if it wasnt just orange. Orange is a very ugly color for a box art. Plus I think this art will push average consumers away at the stores instead of drawing them in.

  • The box art logo for resistance 3 looks nice.

  • I love the box art, great job

  • Looks a little too bright, I was hoping for a more grim representation…
They could have even made the orange grimy, too make it look like a flag.

  • Sweet cover. Its like a the Punisher meets death. This game is going to rock.

  • Resistance 3 sweet gotta pre-order, Resistance was my first game i played on ps3, since then i have always played em =]

  • Those logos on the box would be a lot more appealing if the stupid art wasn’t in the way. In fact I think it needs about 5 more logos on it.

  • cant wait OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! goons

  • That game looks so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have blackops and am going to get homefront, sims 3 and cod 5 for my birthday!!!!! I got my password changed yesterday!!!!!!! Ill be on midnight club L.A. next wensday as well as blackops!!!!!!!

  • Looks great!

  • wouldn’t care if it had a picture of boy george on the front of it… IT’S RESISTANCE!!! no way i’ll miss it.

  • wow! O.O

  • I LOVE IT!! Especially the NYC skyline as the teeth. Very well done. Finally ORIGINAL box art that is simple, clever, and cool at the same time. It should stand out from everything else. Great job!

  • storeplz

  • With all they spent developing this game they could’ve at least bought the artist a new box of crayons to do this abysmal cover with.
