Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of the enemy approaching your bunker. Only you’ve heard them way before they’ve even seen you and now your commandos are ready to unload. What’s your advantage? It’s simple – the official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset – the latest addition to the PlayStation 3 accessories family.

Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3

The official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset will be available for $99.99 (MSRP) at retailers nationwide this September. Many more of your favorite franchises, such as Killzone and Gran Turismo, were also designed for surround sound audio. Featuring 7.1 virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset lets you hear all the minor in-game audio clues clearly, whether you are in a firefight in a first-person shooter game or racing for the checkered flag.

Designed with comfort in mind for hours of gameplay, it’s the perfect addition to your PlayStation experience. Connecting the Wireless Stereo Headset with PS3 is made easy with the included USB Wireless Adapter. Precise volume controls and accessible microphone mute make it so you never have to interrupt gameplay to fumble for buttons. You can easily stay informed about battery status, sound controls, etc. with on-screen headset status updates. On top of that, the Wireless Stereo Headset also offers the highest quality voice chat for crystal clear online conversations. The mic is retractable so you can put it away if you just want to listen to music or play a single player game.

We’re very excited to be able to offer you yet another new way to get immersed in the game. Be sure to keep checking the Blog for more information soon.

  • ill be buying the $50 wired turtle beaches that are the same quality

  • Damn it people, stop saying that you’re mad about the Store not being up! They already said that the store would be up on May 31st. What do you want them to say about it? Do you prefer to have a store that will not be working properly and will not be secure right now, or wait until May 31st to get a store that works properly and is more secure? If the Store isn’t up after May 31st, then you can ask for more information about the Store. For now, just be patient!

  • September.. So Resistance 3 and New Head set bundle anyone?

    @mykallin
I don’t know about you but I’m seeing thick internal padding around the entire inside of the headband in these pictures… looks pretty comfy… though I will agree that the ear part seems to be a thin padding I think it will depend more on what that padding is made of and how much give it has. For the most part though I haven’t had any complaints about Sony’s PS branded accessories so far and I don’t expect this to be any different… but than again we won’t know until launch

    So a few questions…

    1) When making this headset why choose to use USB wireless over a bluetooth connection? Does it have something to do with the rumored limitation of not being able to use bluetooth headphones with the PS3 for full audio?

    2) Is this headset rechargeable or ran on batteries? In either case, what’s the battery life like for these?

    3) Can this headset also be ran wired?

I’m just a little curious. If there is no limitations to these being able to run bluetooth rather than wireless, it’d seem that going with bluetooth would be the smarter choice since bluetooth offers more in terms of both distance and sound quality.

For the people stating that the $99.99 price point is too steep, look up some competitors that offer the same type of product. The Turtle Beach headsets that compare to these and offer 7.1 surround sound run for $149.95 and that’s for the wired pair. The wireless pair with 7.1 surround sound runs $249.95. These are prices taken directly off their official site.

All that being said, I really like this headset. I’ve been looking to get a Turtle Beach headset for some time with 7.1 surround sound but with these coming out I might reconsider.

  • This looks a lot better than just about every one of these on the market. If I had the $100…

  • i just wish sony would make just one headset and stick with it as a big fani have about every accesory yall make now will have to think if i really wont this one.

  • Will I be able to output sound to both the Headset and my TV at the same time?

  • Are you serious? You couldn’t have done this back when you were designing the sound bar? Yeah, well I’m not going to get too excited. It best be better than Tritton at the very least.

  • Will and when will this be released in European territories?

  • @Victoryismine52
I cant believe you have no complaints on their accessories..Everyone remembers the original heavy Bluetooth that tried to take there ear off

  • If it isn’t Bluetooth, then I won’t be buying this piece of crap!!!!!

  • SLEEPLESS_KNIGHT

Now if only we had Xross Game Chat to go along with this, it’d be awesome!!! Come on already Sony! You want us to buy a $100 headset; you’d better upgrade the chatting experience on PS3. Guys like me that have purchased both of your official Bluetooth headsets aren’t going to jump on this one without it. My advice: Scrap PS Home and put those resources/budget into updating the Xross Media Bar by allowing our Home avatars to be visible on the XMB, Xross Game Chat, Party/Group chat (like Live has) etc.

    @Cannibasowns
You do realize that you are talking to a MASSIVE corporation with many decentralized groups as if it’s one entity. The team that worked on these and other hardware products has NO IMPACT on the store, network, System software, etc…. Your barking up the wrong tree man let these guys do their job and go complain to the PR guys. These have most likely been in development for quite some time and are just now being announced. What you are doing is the equivalent of not buying a game because you don’t like the publisher or the guy that designed the box art even though the game is really good your punishing the developer of the product because of something he was not involved in and had no control over… that just sounds really immature.

  • Snoopy_Corleone

well guys I’m out cyall on the psn maybe.

  • i’m willing to replace my tritton’s with those, just based on their design. don’t get me wrong, the trittons are great, and i highly recommend them, but those look just amazing! MUST HAVE

  • I know this… I’m getting one of this as launch! no doubt about it especially when it cost only 99.99 dollars!!! wireless + 7.1 sound round that make the deal!

  • Got my Sharkoon X-tatic Digital + SCU last christmas… I’ll pass… Just want the store back now

  • Victoryismine52

    @mykallin
I bought the redesigned sony bluetooth… I had a Jabra Bluetooth when I initially got the PS3 and didn’t need another

  • @dredz220 your post is very right and understandble most of us are largely ranting about it becuase sony will not even reply to our questions and give us a simple answer I have ran a few websites and minigames and understand that such a wide spand of users is hard to deal with. But alot of these posts wouldnt be flooding the blogs if they would give us a straight answer of wats going on. I dont mind waiting and with quit of bit of experience understand the troubles you may have when working with things like this. ALL WE DEMAND IS FOR LITTLE BIT OF RESPECT AND FOR OUR QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED. Really sony how much is that to ask for our loyalty to your company.

  • peace everyone

  • any chance of a uk price please

  • Sweet will be looking for those they look great

  • I read the specs and I’m sad to see that it doesn’t work with Blu-Ray movies. I find that a shame, considering I’ve watched movies with headphones with 5.1 surround sound integrated (Dolby Pro Logic II) and I was amazed to find myself looking over my shoulder or get a sense of someone/thing behind me just with headphones alone. (Lilo and Stitch 2 DVD is a great example – the sound mix is so realistic).

Then again to be fair, it is meant for gaming. I wouldn’t mind packing this in with Uncharted 2.

  • sony needs to make that money back for this PSN outtage trying to pull out all the stops get that 3billion back anyway bring us cross game chat and we’ll talk.

  • Virtual surround, LOL.

Give me actual surround headsets and then we talking.

I want a headset with 4 speakers in each ear, and a sub that cradles the back of my head like a helmet.

My Dad had quadraphonic headphones back in the 80″s, nowadays its virtual this and virtual that.

Stop being cheap, everyone wants to put $100 worth of software into $20 worth of hardware and call it good enough.

Back in the day when there was little to no software, hardware had to be good enough on its own.

Thats why I have a 1200w 7.1 surround sound system, and just wear a cheap little ear piece for chat.

I’d rather have awesome sound effects, with rumbling bass then tinny virtual speakers with great chat features.

Although the on screen battery indicator/volume controls would be pretty sweet.

  • will they work for when you watch movies to

  • WOWOWOWOWOW! This looks amezing!! thank you sonyy for make this greats things! i have to get one of thoseee

  • ANY COMMENT ABOUT THE NGP GETTING NERFED!!!!!

  • Still I prefer my Dolby 5.1 surround (sony by the way ;))

  • with no cross game chat ~_______~ .

  • How does this work? Is there an adapter that plugs into the optical port?

  • wow i REALLY been needing one, i have my ps3 connected to my surround so its the only way i can hear anything and having the surround on at 11pm while everyone else is sleeping is not good. im going to have to get one of these. i’ll wait for a review, im always worry on how these “wireless head phones” sound like

  • Double WOW !!

  • Thank you for fixing the images, I can now see them full res.

  • TRITTON AX Pro is way better a full 5.1 surround sound not 7.1 virtual surround sound

  • LOL USB wireless adapter, HA, Ha, Ha.

Friggen Sony and their hairbrained schemes, LOL.

Ok so I have two USB ports on my PS3 now,

-one for the USB wireless adapter for my keyboard, (this is third party so cant blame then for using USB adapter)
-one for my USB wireless adapter for this headset,
    -None for my PSEYE,
    -None to charge my controllers,
-None to plug in my Rockband instruments,(this takes at least 3 ports, how many USB hubs am I suppossed to connect at once?) I doubt the 2 USB ports could handle 4 devices each without overheating or something.

Why the hell does the PS3 have the ability to run 7 Bluetooth devices at once if no accessories are going to use it?

Sony you need to run your ideas past me before going public with them, I’ll set ya straight, LOL.

  • @victory My rant is just and in right cause cause Playstation isnt the only times i have seen them lacking in customer care. I have followed them for well over 15 years and was a very dedicated buyer to SONY products. But as you said there a large company with alot of smaller company section. The point is SONY is the developers of playstation and it is there duty to make sure that a product under there name should be properly handled. If they cant do that wat makes you think that any other products from sony will be any better? I for one know better since being such a long time sony buyer. Not to count the multiple Thousands of dollers i have spent towards there company on TV stereos game systems accesories etc. You sir have no right to tell me im in the wrong place becuase aslong as playstation is a trademark of SONY it is SONY Corporations problem and there duty to make sure things like this shouldnt happen

  • That’s awesome – I’ve waited for a decently priced pair of headphones. This is going into the “pre-order” category today!

  • No recharge dock/cord = no buy. Sold seperately doesn’t count.

Bad enough wireless usually take a hit in bass quality, but having to pump new batteries through the them or use a 3rd party charger is not acceptable.

$99 is good price when compared to what’s out there, but that price also indicates the charge kit is sold seperate, and that’s the case these will run you about the same as other sets.. if not more.

  • @David2Crazy optical port can’t do 7.1 surround sound only hdmi

  • Read a rumour that the surround will only work in games? :( :(

  • When will they be available?
Do they have separate volume controls for voice and game volume?

  • I will buy this if it’s bluetooth compatible and if cross game chat is available by when this releases.

  • I’ll probably get these. Sony headphones are good (I still have my pair of MDR-v300’s that I use when playing) and actually for 100 bucks WITH 7.1 surround they are actually priced right at 100. I find it funny that people are saying “just use cheap headphones” etc. One thing people aren’t realizing is this doesn’t need an amp. There are TV’s that don’t even have headphone jack in nowdays and if they do it sounds like garbage (i plug mine into my Onkyo Amp) and it’s not even close to surround sound. Also I don’t ever use a mic so this will give me that feature too (have you tried using a blutooth headset with headphones on? lol yea doesn’t work).

Hope they sound as good as the other Sony headphones i’ve had! Only gripe is they aren’t out sooner then September!

  • Hey, why does this headset has an USB adapter when the PS3 uses Bluetooth???

    Whats up w/ that???

  • @midknight24
what is with your avatar it’s freking me out!!!!!

  • i have my share of top of the line headsets, and what i dont get about this new one is how does it get game audio? it only mentions the usb dongle.

  • Those are actually pretty beastly looking

Are they compatible with stuff besides the PS3, like laptops? I’d only even begin to think about paying that much if I could use them as an all around headset.

  • Thank you, thank you, and thank you! an official compatible surround sound headset w/ crystal clear voice chat is something I pondered, and now will purchase when it comes out. It’s a no brainer.
