New Official Wireless Stereo Headset Coming for PS3

Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of the enemy approaching your bunker. Only you’ve heard them way before they’ve even seen you and now your commandos are ready to unload. What’s your advantage? It’s simple – the official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset – the latest addition to the PlayStation 3 accessories family.

Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3

The official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset will be available for $99.99 (MSRP) at retailers nationwide this September. Many more of your favorite franchises, such as Killzone and Gran Turismo, were also designed for surround sound audio. Featuring 7.1 virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset lets you hear all the minor in-game audio clues clearly, whether you are in a firefight in a first-person shooter game or racing for the checkered flag.

Designed with comfort in mind for hours of gameplay, it’s the perfect addition to your PlayStation experience. Connecting the Wireless Stereo Headset with PS3 is made easy with the included USB Wireless Adapter. Precise volume controls and accessible microphone mute make it so you never have to interrupt gameplay to fumble for buttons. You can easily stay informed about battery status, sound controls, etc. with on-screen headset status updates. On top of that, the Wireless Stereo Headset also offers the highest quality voice chat for crystal clear online conversations. The mic is retractable so you can put it away if you just want to listen to music or play a single player game.

We’re very excited to be able to offer you yet another new way to get immersed in the game. Be sure to keep checking the Blog for more information soon.

  • oh wow. i gotta get one

  • Looks sweet, sounds sweet . . . but I’ll add my voice to those who say it should have had Bluetooth. Wouldn’t have complained if I still had my fatty, because it had four USB ports. But after my visit from Mr. YLoD, I got a slim with only 2 ports–one of which will be using the PS3 Eye in the mentioned games, since I need that for my Sharp Shooter. Seriously, unless they put more USB ports back into the consoles, they need to be thinking about issues like this on ALL new hardware.

  • I’m not justifying the lack of USB ports but seriously go pick up a USB hub. Plug it in and you can have a ton of extra space to plug things in. Even when the PS3 had for ports it was never enough.

  • Jesus Sony, you make it so difficult for me to not just sign my paycheck over to you. Then again 100 bones for a WIRELESS 7.1 headset isn’t bad. Laughing at 360ers that spend 100 on stereo turtle beaches.

  • wow this looks sooo SICK!!! i’m definitely getting this!!!

  • Optical is capable of 6.1 surround, but via the PS3 only 5.1 surround.

Doesnt matter anyway as these are only stereo capable, LOL. As in they only have one speaker per ear.

Virtual 7.1 means crap hardware with some software attempting to simulate 7 speakers with only two.

Its the SRS surround sound thing all over again, and having a tv with this feature I can tell you when I actually upgraded to a 7.1 Home Theater the “virtual” is just a crappy gimmick.

Notice the heading, “stereo headset coming to PS3”.
    Stereo means 2, not 7.1

Another thing, how many of these can be used at once?
If I have a friend over playin split screen do we have to put our heads together and share one pair?????

    LMFAO

  • That is just about the ugliest headphone I have ever seen. LOL

  • legendary_mantis

Aw man, if only there was a software update to allow headphones similar to this, work with game audio! I would totally buy these! Is it possible to use them on other devices?

  • Damn that looks/sounds nice, I need a headset for when I play late at night anyway lol.

  • nice the surround sound off the headphones oh yeah! =)

  • they look really sweet, I’ve been wanting something like this!

  • Will there be any kind of equalizer software included or any other way to adjust sound options. I’m just curious if there’s a way to adjust the volume of your own voice through the headset (or even if you’ll be able to hear your own voice through the headset at all..?), or the volume of chat over game sounds, or if you can adjust the game sounds settings so you’ll be able to hear subtle noises (like footsteps) over the sounds of explosions without just turning up the master volume. These are things that I’m looking for in a wireless 7.1 headset and so far headsets that I’ve looked at with these options tend to run at least double the cost of these. I really want to like this headset. It looks comfortable and it’s a brand I trust.

  • I thInk they make them fat and ugly on purpose. That way they can come out with a slimmer version 9 months from now. It’s a gimmick to make you buy both. I assure you, there will be a slimmer version of these. I guarentee it. It’s nothing different than the bluetooth headset they released.

With all that said, I think it’s an awesome idea. I use PX21s and this will be a great buy to replace it one day. Of course I’ll be getting the slim version of them.

  • I just realized how funny I am going to look with a big headset and 3D glasses on.

  • cool but would it help u in online shooting game? I got good ears to hear them coming but would this work 4 me, one way to tell maybe if there have 30 try 1st to convince me.

  • Wow, I want this so bad :)

  • Anyone notice that the moderators or whatever of PS blog will ONLY reply to the absolute most positive comments? Even the slightly critical ones that are on topic will not see any recognition whatsoever. See, if you were a layperson scrolling through the comments and you see all the big red comments in reply to such positive reception you’d think that Sony is a much better company than it actually is.

  • I may pick these up. I can trade in one of my bluetooth headsets towards it. I have a pair of Tritton AX Pro’s but the voice mic never seemed to work well. I was planning on picking up a pair of the new Turtle Beach PX5’s but if these work just as good I could save $150.

  • I will buy it

  • Interesting product, looks great in my opinion :) Hope its comfortable to wear.

  • It works on a computer too, right?

  • xX_LaMa_LaMa_Xx

I bought px21 turtle beaches and they were great while they lasted- 3 months. thinkin about gettin a pair of these if i can find them for under 100$.

  • @ cannabis yes i went back & read that post, they did clearly say b4 they switched it 2 target date they were sayn buy the end of the month. {buy the 31ST} why don they just stick with sayn it will be back when you turn on your ps3 and poof its there lol

  • @midknight24
“Before people start reacting maybe they should read a book, learn so new words.”
That being said…what the hell are “pions”?

  • I dont know why some of you complain so much, sony has came out with a stereo headset to keep things non sony off the network like turtle beach, thats why there is so much echo and studder when peaople talk online. Dont complain thats its not Bluetooth, The USB adapter is actually better, I have a set of sony wireless stereo headphones and there great, I can go clear down the street from my house and still here the tv or radio or what ever i have it hooked too. And stop complaining about the price 99.99 isnt bad, my wireless headphones where 80.00 and they dont have a mic. And stop complaining about the network going down for maitenence, and wondering when you will get your free stuff, you been getting free stuff since you owned the playstation, you should be lucky you have that, Sony could of made us pay to play to make up for all the money that was lost of there side.

  • AMAZING!

  • I’m sold cause I was looking to buy a triton headset. One question is will this be compatible with PC/360? That is the reason to why I was going to shell out for the wireless Triton because it was Universal to all systems.

  • Well said gman20032003!

  • Thanks tendon320

  • I had the bluetooth headset but I didn’t like having to sacrifice good audio with my over the ear headphones for the sake of communicating with other players. Now I can have both! 7.1 virtual surround sound? CAN’T WAIT!

  • At first I wondered what set them apart from the TB and Trittons on the market…then I realized it’s wireless! (And they are not butt ugly like those other brands.

Why are people saying these are huge? have they even ever seen the other brands and how heavy they are?

What kind of batteries do they take?

  • VERY NICE INDEED….

  • If there anything like my wireless sony headphones they proboally take 4 AAA batts that recharge unless its like the controllers and have built in batterries

  • They look amazing! You guys did an amazing job! I’m still a fan even when the outage went down. Bad things happen but that doesn’t mean it will stay that way forever.

  • They certainly look interesting, but I’m too in love with my Beyer Dynamic DT770 Pro headphones. They sound incredible, and produce very clear sound from crisp highs to rich lows.

I’m always in favour of new quality AV hardware on the market though.

  • Any idea on the Battery life for this thing? or is that yet to be determined? either way, i’m definitely shelling out the $100 for this thing, Turtle beaches crapped out on me recently so i need a new gaming headset like this, but for now the old Sony Official Bluetooth is perfectly fine. i’ve been using the old model since 2009 :P

  • @gman20032003 That would ruin Sony’s streak of rechargeable items on the ps3. I hope its comes with some kind of recharge stand or just a port to put ur USB cable into.

  • dude im a get that

  • I love it! I’ll be buying one come September.

  • ~just payed 300$ tax inc. for a set of Turtle Beach PX5’s. You’ll not find anything close for 89$ (only 35$ more than the bluetooth earpiece is a phenominal deal) . 7.1 surround will run you upwords of 150$, wireless is over 200$. Sure you get a few nice extras with the PX5’s, like sound preset abilities, voice morphing and bluetooth connection to telephone and music while you play. But damn, THESE ARE ONLY 89$ !! Good job SONY.

*and we don’t have the final specs yet, these might have sound presets and morphing too. And more.

  • Nice Helmet LMAO a bit big but sure it sounds good will have to check it out!!! Glad I noticed this cause I was about to buy a different head set wish it was coming out sooner but will have to be patient thx sony!!!

  • I hope these have a removable mic instead, I’d take them outside if they did, but with the mic being retractable it would just looks dumb out in public.

  • sorry ‘phenomenal’, not ‘phenominal’
    ‘upwards’ not ‘upwords’

    and 99.00$, not 89.00$

~the interwebs gets me soo excited!

  • Damn, those are sexy. I have a pair of wireless logitech’s, but I think I will picking these up come September!

  • I agree with this article. I would lose my turtle beach headset anyday for a good set of Sony Wireless headset! Sony makes amazing products and will continue to buy them. Never have had a problem with anything sony!

  • Looks cool but steep price. I’ve never had a complaint about my current Sony bluetooth headset. So it will probably be a pass for me. However I am curious about how they sound, and I like the controls they are giving us, to optimize what we want sound wise. I’ll probably pass for now but my mind could change.

  • How good can the sound quality be if the only connection is a USB adapter? I have a Turtle Beach PX21, and it uses USB only for the chat, and white/yellow audio cables for everything else.

  • What kind of power does it use? Rechargeable batteries? Will it charge through usb from ps3? Will it have bass? How big is the amp?

  • I saw these and was like WOW must have…. and then I saw the “wireless adapter” and the comment about not having bluetooth…. that just made them 100% less appealing. I’m not interested unless they are bluetooth. no monies from me.

  • Would this headset and any accompanying firmware update also allow users to listen to movies, music, and any game noise via the radio function and not through the A\V connections? Id like to see this implemented in either the PS3 or 4.
