PlayStation Fans: Watch E3 Online Right Here

Last year, we invited three hundred fans into our press conference. This year, we’re shooting for a million.

You’ve been requesting it, so for the first time, we’ll be broadcasting the entirety of the PlayStation press conference directly into this Blog. Additionally, we’re setting up a mini-studio in the PlayStation booth, and we’ll be bringing in developers while the show floor is open for interviews, live demos and to answer your questions via a built-in chat module. It all starts right here on June 6th.

Since this is an LA event, we’d still like to do something for some of our Southern California fans. Because our press conference is already at capacity, we unfortunately won’t be able to get anyone into building (again, everyone can watch the livestream right here). However, we were able to secure over one hundred 3-day passes to the E3 Expo, where attendees can visit our booth and go hands-on with NGP and our stellar PS3 lineup as a guest of PlayStation.

We want to make sure only the biggest local PlayStation fans get in, so instead of having folks queue up in the unpredictable Spring weather (as has been the case in past years), we’ve created a web quiz you can take from the comfort of [wherever you are sitting].

Here are a few things to note:

  • E3 takes place from June 7-9th at the Los Angeles Convention Center, so you’ll obviously need to be in SoCal during that time to attend. Don’t bother taking the quiz if you won’t be there!
  • You must be 18 or older to attend E3 – that’s their rule! Your ID will be checked when you go to pick up your badge, so if you’re under 18… don’t bother taking the quiz!
  • E3 badges are non-transferable, so if you’re not sure if you’re going to be able to attend… don’t bother taking the quiz!
  • The information we’re asking for (name & email address only) is required for all attendees by the ESA, who run the E3 Expo. We won’t ask for any additional info!
  • We’ll grade quizzes and select winners by late next week, and contact winners via email with information on how to pick up your passes.

  • See thats just it. SONY is going to use the media and publicity of E3 to cover up the fact that they don’t have anything done with the PS STORE. Then two weeks after E3 they will be like “Hey PS3 fans, PS STORE update coming soon” Personally if Sony goes to E3 with out PS store being up, I think they should be laughed out of the building. Im sure tons of people believed that when Sony promised us free games and stuff no one ever believed it would take this long. And When SONY says the welcome back package is to thank us for our patience, did they really think that everyone would just forget about everything else? So is Sony going to roll out another “Thanks for having the Patience of a lifetime welcome back package” I thought the point in offering that would be that PS STORE would be back soon after. So whose patience is being rewarded here? Sony’s customers when the store finally does come back. Or SONY’s patient lack of effort in trying to restore it?

  • Well, today is the 30th and so far no further update into the store situation. Now i know they are targeting for tomorrow to have 100% restoration however i can’t help but feel that as each hour goes by without any word that much like the delay in getting online service back on, that the restoration of the store is going to suffer the same fate. However if this happens, it is 100 times worse for sony as everyday after the 31st passes and gets closer to E3 there will be a major backlash to sony worse then there already is. Not to mention that Mortal kmobat has the klassic costume pack being released on the 7th, so if the store isn’t up by then that will be a major issue.

    I have been patient in waiting for the store to come back, i have flown off the handle but i can see why many others have as the way that sony has gone about not responding to any posts about the store with more in depth information is unsettling. I like everyone else would love to see the store come back tomorrow as it being the targeted date however i have an uneasy feeling in my stomach that the day will come and pass and we will probably not even have a post from sony until days later.

  • @545Hey mid night clam down man, the store psn store is not the end of the world,, neither is being online playing games. They have usa government as well as other government breathing down there neck. Its going to take some time my friend, they cant just plop the store down becuase those governments re checking to see if it safe to use .

    So just clam down with the emotion and etc. they doing it by the book.So cool your horses my friend.
    saying things that dont need to be said wont make the psn stop pop up out the oceans and in your lap.

    They only need to tell us whats up every 24 hrs, And clock is going by japan or westcoast time.

  • Also on a side note, if restoration isn’t up before E3, if i was sony, i wouldn’t bother showing up. Right now people are upset, frustrated and out of patience, but that is nothing in comparison as to how people are going to feel after the 31st if it isn’t back up. Sony for your sake you better have the store up otherwise……….Things will get a whole lot worse..

  • Midknight I understand your upset but the name calling and all of the negativity your pumping out really isn’t worth it. I never expected the store to come back right away. I knew it would take time. Yes I’m frustrated but what is the point in getting ticked off. It’s beyond our controls. Yes they should update us but keep in mind today is a holiday unless someone from Japan would release info on here and that is doubtfull. I’m sure sometime tomorrow we will have an update and besides they didn’t really give a set date and the end of the month ends at midnight.

  • Ok so considring it is 11pm on the 31st in Japan, you aren’t making any sense. I realize everyone is on edge, but Im just trying to take the same courtesy as everyone else on this blog. Everyone has a different opinion and these sites are set up to make those opinions public. Back in the day it was said if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it at all, Well we don’t live in those times anymore. Everyones dirty laundry is made public nowadays. As for the calm down? No I don’t think I will, I have supported SONY since the PS one first gen. and had a PS2 as soon as it came out. I feel that as consumers we have been let down extremely bad. And Im sure alot of people agree with me. For SONY to just turn a blind eye to our questions and concerns are ridiculous. Sorry if I believe that a company that has millions of employees, at least one should have been hired to handle questions and concerns of the public with actual answers instead of just high hopes

    I really hate to burst your hope but, i guarantee you that it isn’t coming up today and i have a feeling we won’t be seeing it up tomorrow either. I am really hoping that sony proves me wrong, however going by their track record over the last 6 weeks, i don’t see it happening.

  • Let us consider the fact that in Japan it’s after midnight right now on the 31st so the month hasn’t ended. Plus nothing is set in store and with Japan being the last brought up they may have a small wait as well. Just a thought.

  • I would be surprised if the store came up any sooner than e3. But Sony is gonna take some Serious nosedived I’d they don’t get the store up within 2 days

    You would think, however going by the events of the last 6 weeks i don’t think the amount of watching is going to change anything. I wouldn’t be shocked if there is no update tomorrow and we don’t get an update on the status until june 2nd or 3rd

  • They could at least give us an update about he store other that we have no update but well tell you when we do0,they have been saying this for weeks,this is turning in to a joke for us and a nightmre for Sony

  • Ok I’m getting tired of people complaining saying that all they want is the free stuff Sony promised. Well thats just it ain’t it? SONY offered the “freebies”. If they had a problem with following through with it they never should have said anything past the ID protection. No one will ever complain about free stuff they never had. So everyone saying that we only want the free stuff, OF COURSE. IF someone handed out poison for free you know there are gonna be some people that take it JUST BECAUSE ITS FREE. And considering that I bought my PS3 when it was like 400.00 I think in essence we have all already paid for the freebies we are getting, hence the “OLD” games that we are getting. They can afford to give out those games because the majority of us has already bought them when they were big. You are lying to yourselff if you think SONY is really losing any money by giving away this free crap.

    For me and i know many others, the free stuff that sony offered isn’t what’s important, it comes down to being told one thing and there being no follow through. I am someone who uses the store more than playing online so not having the main part of the service that i use up is not exactly pleasing.

    While i am not going to cry about the fact that it isn’t i am merely observing the events as they unfold as of tomorrow to see wether sony does get 100% restoration on said targeted date or if they are going to be sealing themselves in for a fate worse than death with us the consumers.

    For those waking up, it’s the 30th.

    This gives less than 48 hours. I can feel the tension, the anxiety, the frustration in every post I’ve read thus far.

    YES, we all want the network locked down and well-tested to prevent another hacker nuke…
    BUT we as users generally expected faster service than what we seem to be getting.
    I predict that Sony will FAIL to meet its own projection.

    All the showboating in the world isn’t going to fix this debacle. Not at E3, not at PAX Prime, NOWHERE.

    To those at Sony who monitor the blog, I want an update at least once per week each week that the network is not in top form. I love classic games. I love the convenience and price that PSN offers for them. But I HATE being kept in the dark, as we have been for two weeks since the blackout lifted.

  • Let’s say for s and gs that Sony gets the network up tomorrow. However there is such a massive amount of people trying to get in it crashes the servers which takes them a little extra time to get brought back up and there is a few hours of work. Would that upset you or would you be happy the store is finaly back up?

    I wholeheartedly agree, I generally use the store more than I go out to buy games, I also like having the option of getting new themes and such all the time. It just appears that SONY is going farther and farther down the tube I just think the posts about games coming out or that are out, that we can’t even get a good glimpse of with out the PS store is ridiculous

    I agree with ya on that. For me though, i have no problem with them posting about games that are coming and things the devs wanna show off, i just think that there should be more updating in regards to status of the store. I understand that they can only update when there is some sort of news however they can’t tell me that after 6 weeks they have no news as to what is going on or atleast as to where they are in the restoration process is just ridiculous. There has to be an update as to the part of the process they are in.

    You promised by the end of the month Sony that we will have the Playstation Store up. Well guess what you have 1 day left. I have a feeling it won’t be back up tomorrow because last time you said the Playstation Network would be back up in 1 or 2 days during the outage and it didn’t. So lets see May 15th Playstation Network went back online and 15 days past by so far. If your telling me by tomorrow that we didn’t have the time to bring the Store back up then you make me laugh.

  • I’m really not that concerned about the games they are handing out, and the plus thing is just an attempt to get people to continue buying PS+ services. All I really want ATM is an actual update, Be it bad or good. It’s not to much trouble to type a few simple words to keep us out of the dark. I dont think our requests are very unreasonable are they.

    Also can someone correct me if im wrong, but I had PS+ on my old PS3 a while back and if you download something thats + exclusive you must continue buying the service to use it? It’s been a while.

    I for one am not complaining, i am merely making observations of the situation. I am fine with the free stuff sony is giving us for the whole outage issue, and i am a patient person however if you know a thing or two about business ethics then you would know that the way sony has handled the whole situation is unacceptable. The Pr surrounding this has been way below par.

    As i stated in an earlier post, they cannot say “when we have something to post then we will” mind you this is not an exact quote however regarding the store restoration they can’t say they have nothing to report. They can tell us the percentage of the restoration or tell us what they have done up to this point and wether or not the may 31st date is still viable. Now if you consider this to be complaining then sadly you and everyone who states we are complaining are not getting the point.

  • Complaining is a part of human nature and really there is no harm in letting go of some steam. However there are people in here who take it to the extreme to the point where they start acting like children. When that happens the line is crossed and becomes nothing more then whineing like a little kid. I hate to see adults act like children, I dealt with it way to much.

    I agree with you, some people do take it to a whole new extreme but i hate seeing people who are simply posting about an update on the store get told to stop whining when in fact all that is being asked is a reasonable question.

    Other major retailers have been hacked and had their customers’ credit card info stolen.

    But none of them shut down for anywhere near 6 weeks! As a technology company as big as they are, who could’ve imagined their response to be so incompetent?!

    They said they were working day and night, but does anyone actually believe them? I just got my cr.p broken ps3 exchanged and need to re-download the few items I bought. When that’s done, I’m NOT gonna need the d.mn sony store again!

    I hope Apple or Google develop a gaming console, because I’m not buying anything from sony rootkit corporation again.

  • I don’t see all of the comments as whineing or complaining. Part of the how I see this is people post “is or when is the store going to be up?”. That or they act like everyone else is wrong and what they are saying is right. I did say asking is pointless since no one at Sony hasn’t responded because it gets repetitive. Plus some of the feed back is not that constructive. If people would understand after the 14th incident Sony doesn’t want to give a date that is their choice. Yeah I want one but know I won’t get it until the decide to release it. That’s the frustrating part as many others have said just a few words would be nice to hear. But we can’t expect something on a daily basis.

For all we know they could be doing internal testing to see how things are going. Not to mention having to work out how they are going to release the free month and the games to how many people?

Im glad there giving us free stuff some complain its old but I never got around to buying infamous..had it in may hand but never got it..so im pleased with that, I know alot of you already own the games and I wish Sony was the company to just put 20 bucks in everyones account and let them pick but seriously there not gonna do that. its something rather than nothing..if they woulda picked 5 other games we would get the same responce from bloggers that we already have this at this point I may sound greedy but all 5 of those games should be free (but thats me lol). Anyways one more day to wait to see if Sony fails at its projection date. It will define if I continue to support Sony. not for the fact of the store but the fact that they have kept us in the dark this entire time even though the masses have asked to be updated. If its up great kudos if not I wont be kept in the dark any longer since Im not worth a reponce, your not worth my money.

    Ya i don’t think a daily update is needed but within 6 weeks with no real update regarding the store is quite unprofessional, as i said in my previous post, they could atleast say “we have completed updating the movie structure or the content listing for the games, or added the new content to the list” or even stating that by the progress that has been done wether or not the 31st date is still viable or if it will take a few more days.

    As long as there is some information with a reasonable amount of information/explanation then people will feel satisfied as they have been kept in the loop of things.
