This press release just hit the wire – PlayStation Store and related services (like voucher redemption) back this week:
SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.
We will update the PlayStation Blog when the PlayStation Store is once again open for business.

just to sign to psn… thats it.. the site says its STILL offline for some reason.
If you can still sign in, then you know the patch won’t be arriving for another 6 hours. The updates they’re doing are supposed to take at least that long, so the PSN can’t take in any more users during tha ttime (it will be disabled for those trying to sign in during the “maintenance”). Best to just find a game or some other distraction to keep you away from the PS3 , otherwise you’ll constantly be tempted to update your system and you’ll keep being told you have the most recent version already. That’s the problem with “BY the end of the week”….you could take that as 5 minutes or 5 days (depending on your patience level).
meant to keep you away from the PS3 store…you can still play a PS3 game and not be tempted (hopefully) to quit it and try updating your system….not that I’ve done that already or anything :o)

I don’t even think Sony knows what they’re doing. They said there was a maintenance, then they said maintenance was cancelled but at the same time they took the network down for the maintenance that was supposedly cancelled.

That’s weird but then again if someone didn’t get the memo or something was set to go offline, who knows. And it could be spread out for the maintance. They may have figured it’s late enough and no one will know.

I think that person is meaning the Playstation website itself not the actual PSN online gaming on his PS3 lol Either way the website DOES say the the site is down when trying to log in…most of us can still post on here cause we was signed in when it went down..

Started to fall asleep 10 minutes ago, finally giving up on PS3 updating tonight (or this morning if you think of 2:30 AM as not being night any longer). Close my eyes and then boom…actually “boom BOOM”. The space shuttle entered Earth’s atmosphere right on time when they said it would. At least one deadline was reached before my day ended.

What I don’t get is if people don’t even have the system why even come on here anymore?
Take comfort in the idea that no matter what date they give, the date of E3 is the 6th. Sony cannot control that. If they do not have a working store by then…..Beetch away. If Sony goes into E3 without the store it will be a crushing defeat. C’mon Sony get that store back on prematurely. Next time you get hacked I’m sure the community will remember it was all there idea to do that. They won’t blame you for allowing yourselves to be hacked. No way will these 13 year olds do that.

OK people look if you do not like the way Sony is releasing the store you can go jump off a bridge into rocks. Sony whats to make sure that the give us what they have missed, and it does NOT help that you are complaining all the time to them! like they said “by the end of this week.” so leave them alone until then at lest; if it is not back by then then all to you to complain. I for one can wait without complaining it takes time to update security and then test them at a pro hacking level, and that is not easy. This can be very hard to do when people are saying the what the PSN store back before they can finish they work.

Sony is nothing more than a company trying to make bank man. They truly don’t care about their consumers. I live in Pa and I used to work at a sony factory by where i live making televisions and they shut it down to move it to MEXICO!!!!!! I lost my job and HOME so that sony could save money. By moving the factory to mexico they saved a ton of money because down in mexico they don’t have a minimum wage and they pay horrible down there. Now everyone on tell me again how great sony is? I had to file for chapter 13. Sony is an absolute joke. My comment probably won’t make it to the blog but if it does everyone better read this and recalculate how much they “love” sony. It’s a bunch of japanese people sitting around a desk thinking of ways to make billions more. Do you ppl honestly think sony gives a crap about us??????????? LMFAO. Think again.

It come with a 20 gig. I am only interested a few games so I think that would be OK for me because the majority of my gaming will still be on the PS3.
