Coming to PlayStation Plus: Free Content and Discounts Galore, Trials for Ghost Recon and EA Sports MMA

Hi everyone,

First of all, welcome back and many thanks for everyone’s patience as we worked to restore the PlayStation Store! It’s been more than a month now since our last PlayStation Plus update, but with the Store back up and running we have some great announcements about free games, discounts and exclusives for Plus subscribers – all coming to you in two publishes: June 3 and June 7.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to introduce Morgan Haro, Community Manager for PlayStation Network. Morgan joined the PlayStation team back in March and he’ll be answering your questions and offering feedback in the comments section.

Free Games and DLC
PlayStation Plus is offering the PS one title Lilo & Stitch for free on June 7, and the MAG Escalation Mission Pack add-on becomes available for free starting June 3.

Huge Discounts
Plus is offering 50% discounts for Tumble, Shank, Death Spank, Death Spank Thongs of Virtue, and Dead Space Ignition. All prices are listed below.

Exciting Exclusives
The June 3rd publish will excite all the mixed martial arts fans out there as we kick things off with the full-game trial for EA Sports MMA Digital.

The June 3 publish also includes the Resident Evil 4 – 10 Avatar Bundle for $0.99, and the June 7 publish includes the inFAMOUS 2 Dynamic Theme for free!

To round out the exclusive offers, the full-game trial for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 will become available in a special E3 publish on June 9.

So how is the welcome back package going to work?
do we get codes we input for are plus package and free games or do we download them off the store it self?

I’ve been on the fence with ps+ this 30 day trial is a perfect opportunity to see if that + on the side is going to stay for a year and forget it exists.

  As for PS Plus, hope you dig it when it comes through. We gave out over $400 in content in the first year, so it’s well worth the value; and that’s not even counting the discounts in the store!

Is might & Magic going to go back on sale. Before PSN went down it was selling for 11 something for PSN+ members but if I want it now I have to pay full price. Please give PSN+ users a chance to buy it. Plus Red Johnson Chronicles was selling for half off for PSN+ members now it is selling for 9.74 for PSN+ members. Why the price hike? Will these games sell for the price they would have been selling for had PSN not went offline. Because I want to buy those games but I don’t want to pay more then I should have to had PSN not went offline.

wow @ 42,43,and 48.. look closer at the store and maybe read the post’s its not an import its a typo. i am hhappy with sony has on the store so far and another update tomorrow.. sounds good to me. i’ll be buying some things and i have the patience to wait for any free games although i think i already own all but one of the free games i seen listed.. its ok though. i’m just glad to see everything is up and running again. and thanks for the identity theft protection!

Plus is losing a bit of steam after a year of participation. I tend to have either played or own the titles being offered. This is especially true with ala carte Sega stuff since the sonic collection was like $12 new and has around 30 games.

MAG is being pushed to death at this point too.

If anyone is a thinking about plus go for it just make sure you have the hd space.

if we download a playstation plus item then later needs to be erased will i be able to get it back or do ineed playstation plus to download agin?

  As long as you have Plus, you can download it again. But yes, for any free content, you’ll need to have a Plus account to access it whether it’s on your HD or not. But any content you buy with the Plus discount will always be yours to keep. Hope that helps!

When can i expect journey and beyond good and evil HD to be in ps store? Jenova Chan made both flow and flower which were published by that game company. Both journey and b g and e HD are a day 1 buy.

It was so much fun!
I dont see why people are complaining about Burnout Paradise being given to EU…Paradise didnt really follow the original style of the game…

I hope you guys set up the free PS+ soon so I can get Lilo and Stitch haha!

First, another welcome to Morgan, whom we hope to enjoy having around for a while.

Second, free games on PS+ requires a PS+ subscription to access, and discounted games on PS+ don’t need a subscription after it expires. My question here is on themes and other things that are more so passive than a game; would they be ours forever, or do you require a PS+ account with those as well?

Third and finally, the blog stated that the Welcome Back Package will be launched by the end of the week. With only two days left (it’s Thursday for me), and with Sony’s disappointingly repetitive late deliveries on their own ETAs, would it be safe to assume that it could take up to another few days, if not more, to get out of these “final stages of testing” as if they really needed more? As the repetition in their late times are almost consistent, it actually seems that Sony enjoys watching as their fans rip their hair out in disappointment that determined times were not met when they appear to have plenty of time to meet their deadline, even by programmer standards.

  Hey Xerorin; good question and YES, any themes or avatars received through Plus are yours to keep. Any playable content though would require a Plus subscription to continue to access; unless of course, you purchase it in the Store outside of your subscription.

@Morgan Haro Welcome to the blog…I have no questions at the moment I just wanted to say as a Network Admin I know all too well what the Sony IT Dept. had to deal with(well on a MUCH smaller scale). So I want to thank all of the Sony Staff for their hard work and effort put into restoring what those lame hackers wrecked…recovering from an attack like that is EXTREMELY time consuming. I would’ve liked to have been a Sony employee (mainly due to the attack) and have had the chance to help with the restoration process… Even though the thought of something on that scale makes my head spin. Also Sony should think about consulting the legend Kevin Mitnick (I only follow him on twitter other than that I am not affiliated with him or Mitnick security in anyway and I refer to him as a legend based on his knowledge and abilities he does not refer to himself as a legend) He can definitely help keep the PSN and other Sony networks more resilient against attacks by hackers. He has offered his services Via Twitter He is the real deal was once the FBIs most wanted Hacker but now uses his skills for good and operates on a purely ethical level. Congress has even asked him for help in the past.

So I was wondering, if we download something we usually have to pay for, but is free under Playstation Plus, does that count as free DLC only available as long as we are subscribed, or is it ours to keep no matter what? I’m asking about the DLC that’s free for PS Plus but you have to pay like $2.99 – $5.99 for if you aren’t subscribed to PS Plus.

  Hay Takeru. yes DLC falls under the stipulation that you must have a Plus account to continue to access the free content. So if you get a free DLC, and decide to remove your Plus subscription down the road, you would need to go into the store and purchase it for keeps.

Wow I sound like a Fan Boy when it comes to Sony and Kevin Mitnick….My Excuse: I have always been fascinated by network security…well everything that concerns computer science. hence working in the IT field as a network admin and I code for fun….lame excuses I know…=_= don’t judge me. Why does no one seem to understand that PS+ is a subscription service, similar to Netflix? You get access to free games, free dlc, free avatars and free themes, WHILE YOU PAY FOR THE SERVICE. The bonus here is that you also get subscriber discounts, and anything you buy at a discount you get to keep whether you continue to subscribe or not. The only thing we lost access to while PSN and the Store were down was new items being added for use in our subscriptions. As long as Sony gets the Store back up to date where it should be within the extra subscription time they added to all existing members accounts, I don’t feel screwed in any way. I still get access to the content as part of my subscription, just later than it would have been.

  Right, and with the 60 days added to existing Plus subscribers accounts automatically; subscribers should be covered just fine for the time that the network was down. @Johnmark because they are european….We get a lot of stuff they don’t and vice-versa ….Australia really gets boned I’d say a good 60% of the best games release on every console(except wii…maybe 1 or 2 wii games were banned…only wii game that the Aus Gov. would ban I can think of would be Silent Hill,…Oh! I bet they banned mad world…I think that is the title I still enjoy my Wii some good tactical jrpgs on there and Silent hill and I know I don’t have to say it but The Legend of Zelda). Anyway Different things get release in different countries…A LOT of Japanese titles never see the store shelves or PSN(or any other console store) Servers , Which is why I have a Japanese account on my PS3 and I have an imported Japanese PS2.(The PS3 and PSP are region free)

regarding Escalation – it was always supposed to come out June 3rd – it came out for XBOX on May 3rd – I’ll be shocked if it’s not in tomorrow’s store update. Activision jumped the gun a little with update 1.09, thus the in-game tease.
