PlayStation Vita

Just moments ago during our 2011 E3 press conference we proudly unveiled an incredible 2011 software lineup and amazing new PS3 peripherals, and also shed new light on our highly anticipated handheld gaming device, officially named PlayStation Vita (PS Vita). “Vita,” which means “Life” in Latin, was chosen as the name for our next-generation portable entertainment system because it enables a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context.

By blurring the lines between interactive entertainment and reality, our goal was to design a device that offered a revolutionary combination of rich gaming capabilities and social connectivity, bringing users closer to each other and closer to their gaming experiences wherever they are. Connectivity was a key objective and our goal was to create experiences and content that would challenge the traditional notions of gaming. It was vital to make a device that was an extension of a user’s entertainment world, no matter where one would go.

PlayStation Vita

Successively launching in the global market for $249 starting the end of this year, PS Vita incorporates a beautiful 5-inch multi-touch organic light emitting diode (OLED) as the front display and a unique multi-touch pad on the rear. Two analog sticks enable a wider range of game genres. Together with the front touch screen and the rear touch pad, PS Vita offers new gameplay, enabling entirely new experiences.

We know you’ve been closely following all of the news since we announced the product in January. With mobile connectivity playing a huge role in PS Vita’s interactive experience, we know many of you have been wondering what carrier will be helping us bring you closer to other users and closer to your gaming experiences on the go. Today, we proudly announced a partnership with AT&T, which powers the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network, who will serve as the exclusive service provider for PS Vita in the United States. By having both Wi-Fi and 3G/Wi-Fi models available, PS Vita will enable infinite possibilities for you to “encounter,” “connect,” “discover,” “share” and “play” with your friends wherever they are.

Ruin for PS Vita

The excitement doesn’t stop there. We believe that 2011 will be a defining year as we usher in a new era of portable gaming. With the official North American unveiling of PlayStation Vita also comes the introduction of an extensive line-up of software for the platform. PS Vita’s launch lineup is a force to be reckoned with, featuring exciting and attractive new titles from SCE Worldwide Studios, including UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet, and Ruin (working title), which utilize PS Vita’s groundbreaking technology to make unprecedented immersive, interactive and social game play available on-the-go. In addition, titles such as Little Deviants, Hot Shots Golf, Reality Fighter, Hustle Kings, ModNation Racers, Wipeout, Super Stardust Delta and a broad range of third-party game developers and publishers make use of PS Vita’s unique feature set. We can let all of you know that the biggest and best 1st and 3rd party gaming franchises will be coming to PS Vita.

Further enhancing your entertainment experience are new PS Vita features, such as “LiveArea,” an interactive space for each PS Vita software title that allows you to access the latest game information through PlayStation Network; “near,” a pre-installed application that lets you see what other PS Vita users in the vicinity are playing; “Party,” which lets you voice chat or text chat while playing games or using the Internet browser; and “Welcome Park,” a tutorial application designed specifically to guide you through PS Vita’s new user interface. 2011 is sure to be an epic year for us here at PlayStation. Let us know your thoughts and looking forward to having you try out PS Vita for yourselves!

  • i’am buying the psp NGP $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$249

  • @112
Android isn’t the PSP2’s (it will be that for me, Vita is dumb) OS. You must be confused with the Xperia Play. I would love to see your sources on this information.

The RUMORED publisher isn’t Activision either, its EA. Get your rumors straight.

  • OOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhh looking forward to working for this one i hope i get it =D

  • How much internal memory will this have. I hope at least 16 gigs like on the PSP Go.

Also how about getting Verizon on board. I do no want to pay two companies.

  • great psp sequel bad name sony are you serious psv? that sounds so whack……..jk great system though

  • screw the 3ds I’m buying the Vita

  • Darkness_King92

First thing that comes to mind. Storage, how much is the $249 wifi only model going to have onboard, or is this going to be another psp k series where you have to purchase a memory card to save anything. Other than that, it will be a must buy for me.

  • Here is my question:

If you’re a sony customer who cannot download anymore content due to being at the 5 psp system limit, does the Vita count as a separate device? I had to get rid of my current psp because I could not download anymore games from the network, and I was completely unaware of the 5 device limit, and did not know about de-activation. I had always stayed current with the psp models, with 2 of them breaking, 2 of them being 2000 models, and one being the Go.

If the Vita counts in that initial 5, then it’s a no-purchase for me. I’ve asked Sony about the deactivation, and all I was told is that I have to create a new psn account. I’m not doing that and rebuying the hundreds of dollars in product again.

If you could answer this one simple question, you may or may not have a guaranteed buy from me(depending on your answer). I’m hoping for the former, though, as I do indeed love the Sony systems.

  • The name is fine, the GAMES better, the PRICE is just EXCELLENT and I don’t now can I buy (Ican buy the PSV with 3G) I don’t care all the USERS say: AT & T? Really? .. I don’t care because is cool the3G tecnology YES so I don’t who buy BUT I now I need to buy something so EXCELLENT WORK.
PS: Sorry For my bad english but i’m just time ago come to USA that’s why I have errors but ALWAYS EXCELLENT WORK !!! :)

  • i was just kidding the name is freaking terrible PS Vita? really? horrible title for a great system

  • Afrocat-Smevens

Man, when I heard the price of this thing I just about jizzed in my pants. Great price, and an awesome way to really compete with Nintendo’s handheld. This may be the tipping point at which Sony handheld really beats Nintendo. The same price, but for me, PSV has so much more features.

  • PS VITA IS MINE DAY ONE

  • WOOT WOOT PSV

  • Please sony, let us pick the mobile carrier for the NGP since not everybody had a good experience with AT%T. it is like you are trying to bring all other mobile networks down by doing a partnership with AT%T and that is what AT%T actually wants to do even without PSvita since they were trying to buy Tmobile but it did not work. so please replay to me if in the future will you consider letting us pick the mobile carrier for the NGP.

  • Very good price. I don’t like AT&T being the exclusive carrier so I won’t be buying the 3G version. Sony even got booed on stage when they announced AT&T would be the only carrier. I don’t really care for the name either, but it’s not very important for me.

  • I wonder what the monthly subscription will be for the 3g version? And what functionality can be had from 3g? I mean…you’re not expecting a wipeout match to flow smoothly with a ps3 if a Vita’s on 3g, or am I missing something?

  • i knew it would be at least 299 because i got an email from IGN telling me about an interview they had with the director of GameStop. nobody believed me , but now those people got to shut the hell up.

  • WOW! DO WANT! But the $249.99 model. If I buy the $299.99 model, I have to pay monthly charges with AT&T (The WORST phone company in existence).

But seriously, when is it hitting the shelves?

  • could any one tell me the price for the both the wi-fi only and wi-fi + 3g PSP vita’s price in Australian Dollars.i live in Australia and i’m sad that it’s always America that gets everything first and gets their pricing first.i’m going to get the wi-fi + 3g version so i’ll have the top model along side with my Ipad 2 64gb wi-fi + 3g.

  • I love it! In my must buy list now :)

PS: I hope the exclusive carrier thing only last for a year like iPhone, since I would love to be able to select the carrier I like instead of just AT&T.

  • What made them pick AT&T? AT&T HAD to pay them. I mean people actually booed when they heard AT&T. Case and point. I love Sony, but their claims that they are in touch with their customers are false.

I just dont understand their logic with AT&T. There HAD to have been someone from AT&T who approached them with a deal.

  • Getting this Wohhooo!! I really dont care about the name

  • could any one tell me the price for the both the wi-fi only and wi-fi + 3g PSP vita’s price in Australian Dollars.i live in Australia and i’m sad that it’s always America that gets everything first and gets their pricing first.i’m going to get the wi-fi + 3g version so i’ll have the top model along side with my Ipad 2 64gb wi-fi + 3g.Vodafone and Three and Telstra.

  • ayo look if u didnt have the audacity to actually watch there E3 press conference to see wat it can do then u cant judge sony is opening gates this upcoming year

  • @160 YOUR ARE ON THE US BLOG!!!!!!! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?!!!! Also, they announced the price in $, €, and ¥.

Just google $249 compared to Austrailian.

  • calaisv its 249 wifi only and the combo is 299 it states it brah

  • need details on International versions. Specifically SE Asia. I have promised not to buy any more toys until this comes out. Please make that promise worth it. :-D

  • @167
He asked in Austrailian Dollars brah.

  • Yes, time to trade up from my trusty 3000.

  • might get it… would be better if it was not at&t there speeds suck compared to verizon and why not 4G??? 3G lags to much so you would be better off playing everything on wi-fi

  • price is nice.. but it obviously needs more games. PSP already had LBP, Mod Nation, Wipeout, etc. Uncharted is nice, the new LBP will be amazing for sure.. but still, we need to see more big games, more 3rd party BIG games as well.

Also, why is SONY not talking ANYTHING about the other features this device can do? Can it play music/videos/movies/internet radio/ can it stream youtube / the internet / skype / etc… all this stuff I am GUESSING it can do but sony needs to address it.. what types of memory cards will it use or what disks will it use would be nice info as well…………..

  • For the last time you dont have to make at&t account to go online or use the service. they are free. understand free. my god.. people./

the ps3 dont need cross game chart it can video while in game… just stay tuned..

  • to be honest i liked ngp better than vita

  • ThreeLeggedFreak

Where are the 3rd party games? GTA SAS, Modern Warfare 3, and Battlefield 3 please.

  • @171 i dnt tke mmry cards. ANything the ps3 can do the ps vista can do. YOu can also down any psp game to vita as well.

  • I am absolutely pumped for this product. I think the name is well placed considering it is based around our lives today. Very fitting name based off of how they want us to use the product.

BIGGEST downfall of the PSV is the “exclusive use on America’s fastest network”. AT&T is not the fastest network in the nation, Verizon certainly is and Verizon covers more area than AT&T. Hopefully it does not stay exclusive for long.

Overall feel like the Playstation Vita is a great concept that will do extremely well, hopefully they expand their market for 3G coverage beyond AT&T shortly after it is released…

  • $250!?!?!!!!!!!

*grabs heart and has a stroke*

    Oh well. Still getting it.
    :)

  • wow, good price, great game lineup

  • PSV + LBP = AWESOMENESS!!!!
    but PSV + AT&T = CRAPINESS!!!!
    Sony WHY WHY!!!!

  • So getting this ASAP!! Loved the touchscreen options in addition to normal analog gameplay. Love the cloud transfer between systems. This IS the next generation of portable gaming, no doubt!!!

    Day 1 purchase!!!

  • umm you have no idea on what Australia prices are.they are overpricedddddddddddddd.Call of Duty Modern warfare 3 cost $119.00 Australian Dollars in Australia so that means if i convert it to U.S dollars it cost around $130USD or more when you guys in the U.S get it for around $56 USD($52 AUD).our Australia Dollars are higher then the U.S which is $1 AUD=$1.07USD today.see how much stress were getting in Australia from the pricing.

  • AT&t was good choice if we want every thing to come for free. becuase if it went verizoin you would be paying out your pockets . trust me, the at&t deal is very good one.onlline game stay fee with ps vita. instead of some bs charge. stop complining over it.

You dont need a t&t account to use the online. nor wil lit cost you a dime to so.YOu dont need to be a at&t customer . AM i atnt customer and phone bill is 21 $ a a mth . and no my phone is not pre paid i also get 3g.

    .

  • Definitely picking this up! And I have a quick question. Will I be able to download the press conference from the Playstation Store? It’s what I usually do every year. Haha

  • Looks like sony finally got their act together. I mean for $249 its a steal. Good thing they didn’t charge us 599 us dollars 599 us dollars 599 us dollars ridge racer.

  • 5 words: complete win and smart move.

  • @160mcbuttz78

Ok, the PS3 can do video in-game???? You can down any PSP game to vita???? WHAT THE HEII ARE YOU SAYING????

Also, yes you do need a data plan to use the 3G. Did you even watch the conference? They said so.

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Australia cost $338AUD($362.00 USD) for the Wi-fi only version.i want to move to America.

  • Nice one Sony. That Wifi only model will hopefully be mine this holiday season.

  • Definitely getting the PS Vita now that I know the price. Got the PSP the month it was released and have been playing ever since, and I don’t see anything being different with this!

  • Cause 4g cost more. And every city is not 4g. 3g is most available almost everywhere.
