E3 2011: It’s An Exciting Time to be a Member of the PlayStation Family

President & CEO

Over the years on the E3 stage, we’ve talked about the “PlayStation family” – our enthusiastic fans and loyal supporters around the world. This year, “PlayStation family” has taken on an increasingly important meaning. I personally want to thank each and every one of you for your patience during the recent PlayStation Network outage. We are extremely grateful for your passion and loyalty. The PlayStation community is stronger and more vibrant than ever and, as detailed a few minutes ago during the E3 press conference, we’re going to thank you for your loyalty with new gaming and entertainment experiences on PlayStation and PSN that will continue to affirm our leadership.

When we raised the curtain on our next-generation portable device this past January, we felt the waves of excitement that rippled throughout the industry. As Kazuo Hirai just announced onstage at E3, the official name of this revolutionary portable entertainment system is PlayStation Vita. PlayStation Vita with Wi-Fi will be available starting at $249. AT&T will be the exclusive U.S. wireless provider for PlayStation Vita, ensuring that you remain connected to content and your friends on the go. We also revealed a plethora of exciting new software titles, including Hot Shots Golf, Hustle Kings, LittleBigPlanet, Little Deviants, ModNation Racers, Reality Fighter, Ruin (working title) Sound Shapes, Street Fighter X Tekken, Super Stardust Delta, UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss, and Wipeout 2048. It’s a fantastic lineup…and that’s just the beginning. Take a look at the new PlayStation Vita.

The era of 3D has officially arrived and there are over 50 million PS3 units around the world that deliver the true 3D experience across games, movies and TV. Our 3D gaming portfolio is rapidly expanding with nearly 40 titles worldwide, including the upcoming UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception that promises to take 3D immersion to new heights. Today we also introduced a new PlayStation branded, high definition 24-inch 3D Display, which will be available later this year. The 3D Display comes with 3D glasses, an HDMI cable and the highly anticipated Resistance 3 game, to give you everything necessary to jump into the world of 3D, at a very affordable price. The monitor features advanced technology that allows two people playing a game to see individual, unique, full-screen images of gameplay rather than a split-screen image. We know PlayStation fans are always at the cutting-edge of innovation and we think you’ll love this immersive 3D experience that is optimized for gaming.

Last year, we introduced you to PlayStation Move and the reception was phenomenal. To date, we’ve sold 8.8 million units globally and there will be nearly 200 Move supported software titles available globally by the end of this year. And we keep adding to the experience. The Sharp Shooter attachment has been flying off of the shelves and has quickly become a must-have for anyone wanting to be placed into the thick of the battle playing one of our first-person shooters like Killzone 3, SOCOM 4 or, later this year, Resistance 3. PlayStation will also continue to expand our Move software line-up for the casual gaming enthusiast, including our latest title for your next party at home with friends – Everybody Dance.

Our publishing partners really help set the PlayStation experience apart with amazing exclusive content only on PS3. For the army of fans of the popular first-person shooter Bioshock franchise, Ken Levine was onstage to announce that Bioshock Infinite will support PlayStation Move and that they are working on a Bioshock title for PlayStation Vita. We also unveiled exclusive content on a number of new games on PS3, including Battlefield 3, Dust, Need for Speed: The Run, Saint’s Row: The Third, and SSX: Deadly Descents.

The PlayStation brand has become synonymous with interactive entertainment and today we’re delighting more consumers across more platforms than ever before. Across hardware, software and PlayStation Network, our platform is stronger and more relevant than ever, delivering breakthrough experiences that consumers crave. There’s a lot to be excited about in 2011 and we look forward to sharing more news with you in the months ahead as valued members of our PlayStation family.

For those of you who were not able to join us at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena this evening, you can download the full presentation. Once again, thank you for your support.

Vita means life is some insignificant language. I do like it. Why don’t you? Did you not relies it had further meaning or?
And AT&T does suck. What is the point if a near constant signal can not be kept. It was not the iPhone that had the problem. Version just does it proper. Still stupid tO involve wireless bs into videogaming. Let’s not forget why we enjoy gaming, it’s the games for those scratching their their butt.

This whole year has done nothing but make me want Xbox Live. I am an online only person and if I do not have cross game chat soon imma sell my PS3 and get a 360. [DELETED] my favorite series from PS3 is gonna also be on Xbox 360 MGSR. Not too much keeping me on PS3 besides family I play online with. This whole year Sony has been very ungrateful and i’m fed up with it.

And all you fanboys can say what you want but the PS3 is not perfect.
I mean it only does what sony feels like implementing.

Btw this is not just about party chat this is about lack of communication.

You people need to quit kissing sony’s [DELETED] and let them know what you want.

PSN has been the same way since it released. Us loyal customers deserve a change. We spend too much money on their products and they won’t listen to what we want.

Whether it be Party Chat, Changing our PSN ID’s, or playing our PS2 games on our PS3, They just don’t care.

Why hasn’t there been any meaningful update for the PS3 OS in a while? I understand you guys are making sure losers don’t hack into your system, but shouldn’t a separate entity continue to upgrade the hardware? I understand FW 3.70 is coming soon, which will add support for the recently announced head set and 7.1 digital, but when will we hear more about it?

Any one see the nintendo network got hacked. Funny thing is no personal data was compromised. Nintendo is the best name in gaming. Most inventive forward thinking gaming company today. Good luck keeping up Sony.

Ok enough feedin the troll boondoks the usb harddrives work for the ps 3 didnt know if the would

When I’m playing a game, I don’t want to HEAR any of my non in-game PSN friends (or even people in the same room) talking to me. CROSS CHAT is OVER-RATED. If it’s really a deal breaker you would have SOLD your PS3 long ago. Now let’s be sensible about the Vita- the portable platform is a completely different architecture than the PS3 & thus CC is a readily available preset on Vita. Think logically; don’t question why it’s possible in Vita & not on the PS3.

The people complaining about Cross Game Chat, The PS3’s architecture won’t allow it, the way the memory is allocated there is simply not enough internal memory to support it. Don’t you think that if it was feasable on the PS3 they would have done it already? The system has been out for almost 5 years now, and nothing hinting at X game chat. It obviously can’t be done.

Miruir said:

June 6th, 10:43 pm

Not sure what you mean by trolling but if your offended by what you read move on. As far as nintendo – the NES had what the move is today. Although crude, way ahead of it’s time. This goes along with the rest of the amazing parifarels the NES had that are mimicked by every platform. The games are storys. Epic stories. If you don’t get it that’s fine. This is a company that has been able to survive past all it’s predecessors and competation. It is a company that puts out games with great content and does not need to rely on graphics to draw tech heads. The Wii is overdue to be replaced. I just have to say this is a company that produces a near flawless product that foes not have a history of problematic hardware and software.
So……PS3 is cool and all, and the only reason I got one is because this outage dropped the price of this system to $200.

” This year, “PlayStation family” has taken on an increasingly important meaning.”

Yes. It’s the one phrase that makes me physically cringe. Apparently Sony hates me because I like good games, since I don’t also swear allegiance to the Playstation family. Along with hailing every new PR disaster as Jesus’ speeches from the hilltops.

Also, did you know the blog is becoming increasingly impossible to read, thanks to the amount of severe bullet-point blather piled on top of substance-less and false promotion efforts? It’s true. So even if you actually did sell a good product – people not interested in pledging their allegiance to the Sony Family will not know about it.

But that was probably the intention anyway, am I right?

I hate fools; let’s call them out. I’ve looked through these 4-5 pages & nobody has thanked you for any particular info.

Sony you all are fools i can’t believe that you neglect what you consumers want after this PSN down fiasco what the hell is the deal why does it take nearly almost 3 years for a simple cross game chat system to be implented if it’s a legal thing let your consumers know instead of many of them hoping for something that we constantly get let down for smh. some of you people are sheeple saying well atleast we got games the PS3 is suppose to be the the most powerful system on the market and it can’t do a simple ol feature someone is lying lazy or just plain ignorant of what the PSN users want.

And give me all the ammo if you already beat the game once :D, the main ammo I need is handgun and sniper, possibly shotgun. I beat the game two times before, but formatted my PS3 each time, and now I want to do it a 3rd time ( not going to format pS3 again ) so please, add me “AzzeTo” ONLY ADD IF YOU HAVE A HEADSET

So did anyone else miss seeing e3 in the e3 theater in home? It played the same four vids repetitively and no matter how many times I re-entered would it switch to the live coverage. So a big thank you goes out to gamespot for having their act together… Disappointed Sony glad I bought you solely for the blu-ray with gamestops $100 off coupon. Seems Sony can’t keep their word.

Sony is the reason I still am a gamer at my current age, without Sony I wouldn’t be the same person I am today. I got a psone when they launched in 1995 at the age of 7 and haven’t looked back since.. So many quality titles and franchies over the years brings back thousands of memories. Twisted Metal has always been my favorite sony franchise and I’m super pumped for it as well as Sly 3, Resistance 3, Journey and countless others

@24 Why do you need cross game chat for the PS3? If you want to talk to your buddy and they are not on the same game how about getting off your bum and pick up the phone and call him or her. That makes more sense than having all these people playing different games, and not communicating about the game they are currently playing. This cross game chat needs not be implimented for the PS3 there is no reason what so ever. Bottom line if you want to chat with a friend or what not than turn off the game and pick up the telephone!!!

Sony… You officially handled your business ! You take that gorgeous, very near future you got boxed up with the extremely considerate price tags… Don’t ever forget what just happened and the fact that all any of us wanted was some real answers… Stir in a good portion of delivering the features that “your life-blood” have been loyally waiting for… It could be a very very good time to be a PS3 gamer.

P.S. – Thank You, Jack Trenton

Great presentation Jack.

Its the first time ive ever seen E3 because im from England and its the first id heard of it being available online, but it was a great unveiling, a lot of the developers really had games which caught my eye, EA brought the goodies this year thats for sure.

The new NFS is always a feat to look forward to, hopefully EA have gone back to roots and made it a street racer with all the extras. As for Battlefield 3… Saw the trailer, amazing, nothing less.

Dust 514 looked very interesting too, they were a new developer right? or a new game idea?

Anyway, i know for certain that dependent on certain factors in september, i will be getting the 3D package, as well as the wireless 7.1 surround headset.

If i was rich or wasnt at university and had a full time income, then id get the PS Vita too, but it seems frivolous at the moment.

For the first time in a while i actually felt quite proud to be a Playstation Gamer, to think all those years ago it was Tomb raider on the original playstation, now we have all these new games, and innovative features on better consoles, oh how its changed.
Great E3, Sony owned i
