3D Display by PlayStation: Two-player mode

Among the new technology unveiled at E3 is the 3D Display, which features a 24” LCD screen with full HD 1080p 3D presentation. Available at retailers nationwide starting this fall, the 3D Display is uniquely enhanced for gaming with a special two-player feature, offering best-in-class visuals in both 2D and 3D. The 3D Display utilizes an exclusive feature that optimizes two-player mode by delivering individual full HD screens, giving each person their own full screen view of the action on the same display while playing co-op or head-to-head. With an ultra-slim PlayStation inspired bezel design and built-in speakers and subwoofer, the 3D Display is big on image quality and sound and delivers all of your HD media simply by connecting to PS3, PC or cable TV box. It’s perfect for bedrooms, dorm rooms or wherever you want to play the best 3D console games.

3D Glasses by PlayStation

We also announced official 3D Glasses, which are optimized for gaming with comfortable stylish design and built-in rechargeable battery – a perfect match for the 3D Display. You’ll get a pair of these with the 3D Display, but you can also purchase them separately for $69.99 (MSRP) – and you’ll probably want to, given the new exclusive feature on the 3D Display. In addition, the 3D Glasses will work with a variety of active shutter type of 3D TVs and displays.

Each 3D Display will include one pair of 3D Glasses as well as an HDMI cable and a copy of Resistance 3 on Blu-ray disc—all of $499.99 (MSRP)

Resistance 3: Doomsday Edition

Resistance 3, The Doomsday Edition is without a question the best way to experience the upcoming title from Insomniac Games. The bundle, which includes a copy of the game on Blu-ray disc, a PlayStation Move motion controller, navigation controller, PlayStation Eye, and PlayStation Move sharp shooter, will be available at retailers nationwide on September 6, 2011, for $149.99 (MSRP). Taking advantage of the sharp shooter’s authentic, ergonomic design and pinpoint precision with the PlayStation Move locked in, the Chimeran menace will have nowhere to hide.

Not long ago, we announced the official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset , and we’re very happy to see the positive response you’ve all had. With unparalleled virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset is a great way to completely wrap yourself into your favorite games. As we’ve mentioned before, we here at PlayStation are always looking for new ways to enhance and expand your gaming experience. Marrying the best software lineup in PlayStation history with offerings designed to fully immerse you into the gameplay, there’s never been a better time to be a PlayStation 3 owner. I can’t wait to use these in my home too!

  • Nice multiplayer thingy there, I like it but ain’t really interested.

What seems cool to me is this nice Move bundle, even if it comes with a very dull game as Resistance. The sharpshooter really makes the difference among other videogames with motion control. Very steady and stable, with a very nice balance.

Unfortunately, with all the options of shooting games, I’d probably stick with the Time Crisis series, as everything else seems very lifeless and generic. Maybe Killzone 3 is a little better than all the others but, still, very few games to actually put the thing to use.

  • I’ll stick with my 40 inch TV thanks.

  • I feel a little violated after spending $149.99 a pair on 4 pairs of 3D glasses. :(

  • The size should be at least 32″ honestly. While I’m skeptical at the moment to get this right away, the technology in it is interesting. The whole split-screen with 3D has their own full screen view is an awesome innovation. I’m not sure, it’s $500 for a lot of faith to go on for the quality. I guess it’s been pretty much confirmed we aren’t getting a Resistance 3 collector’s edition now then?

  • I just don’t want Resistance 3. Take it out for $450 and we have a deal.

  • sony you are the best. you rocks this E3. and im telling u i gona get all this bundles and also the psvita for the holidays. and by the way i like a lot the psvita name cause ps is my LIFE

  • A 24″ 3D TV? Well that’s a first. 3D means the screen’s refresh rate is VERY high (at least 120MHz if I recall correctly) making this viable for even PC gaming without annoying motion blur. Really awesome for a 1080p display. I’ll pick one up if it meets the following conditions :

    +AV, composite and VGA ports
    +2ms response time
    +1000:1 static contrast ratio

SONY really needs to get a spec sheet out for the technical guys like me. $500 is still a lot and I won’t shell out the cash and replace my current monitor until I can compare them.

  • man thats awesome! but its to small! i understand its about making it affordable and that’s great too Sony is finally listening to us! im just waiting for this tec. on a nice 32″ or bigger tv ill pay for that!

  • @Trucidation it is a real 3d tv

  • u kno ppl always got something to say its a nice deal and sony has other tvs for 5x wat this 1 is we in a recession to so they thinking how this cld be nice fo plenty ppl id say n R3 looks real beautiful

  • im getting the tv to try out 3D!!!

If its good i like it, ill buy 46″ 3d sony!!

  • Sony, why do you KEEP DOING THIS TO ME NOW I MUST BUY THIS TOO.

The 3D display is $350 alone and because it’s bundled with the $150 HDMI cable, Resistance 3, and 3D glasses bundle, the total will be $500. I just wonder what ports it will have and how many, since it does have support for PC and it has two speakers and a subwoofer. The ideal ports that I want on it are at least 2 HDMI ports (1 for the PS3 and 1 for the cable box), component , a VGA port, one DVI port and an audio-in port for PC and other various things, like an MP3 player.

The Display alone is a great deal, since it presumably will have a good amount of ports, speakers and a subwoofer, and 3D (the cherry on top). The only thing that is similar in size and features is a 24″ Asus monitor, but it has no speakers, TV tuner, or the amount of ports like this display has. The HDMI cable goes for $30 on the SONY store, the glasses are $70 standalone, and Resistance 3 will presumably be $60, which bought separately would be $160, $10 more than the bundle that comes with the display.

This is a definite buy for me, since I have my computer and PS3 hooked up to a 24″ Toshiba, and I really need a new display, and this is a really great deal that they have here.

  • I like the tech behind the TV.. how ever im looking into something as big as a 46″ or bigger in a TV.. Im not Collage kid or little kid so Im looking for a BIGGER TV.. the price is good for people that want a good 3D TV or Monitor for a Computer because LCD is best for PC’s

Im like all the other guys on here… WE WANT OUR TECH SPECS ;) pretty please with a Wipe Cream on Top ;)

    Thanks Sony..

Cant believe you blow my mind with the Price Points all over the Place :D

    PS Vita FTW!

  • HOW ABOUT $999 FOR A 40″ 3D THEN IM SOLD WITH 2 GLASSES + RESISTANCE

  • This was an incredible announcement! I am getting this to play Uncharted 3!! Sony or SCE, is the total entertainment package.

However, guess I’ll have to pass on the Sony Google TV that’s selling on QVC starting tonight. Oh, well….

  • idont know id buy this but is it gonna have the old av cables so you can use turtle beaches with it?

  • when will the tv be out and when will we see the direct specs for the tv?

  • LOL unless you release a 42″ version at the minimum I have no plans to get rid of my 3DHDTV from samsung sorry

  • I wish it was a bit bigger, but still, you have my money Sony!

  • WOOOO!!! I can’t believe this is being made! I have recently been looking for a good personal TV to use strictly for my PS3, and I’ve been wishing there was a good high-quality display with 3D.
    THIS IS SO PEEERFECTUHH!! AAAGH

Any idea when this display will release?

Will it be available without the Resistance 3 copy, and if so, how much will it be?

  • I am so getting this, if you offer just the LCD and glasses. I intend to get the PS3 Move bundle so I don’t need the rest of the new 3D tv bundle, but regardless, this is a fantastic marketing idea. Sony is the ONLY total package, soup to nuts entertainment source and you people do it so very well.

    Sony fan for life!

  • I want it to, but i’m not gonna run out and buy one! NOT UNTIL THE BUGS ARE WORKED OUT #1, #2 its not gonna work with anything we have right now it only works for one game & #3 the size you know there gonna come out with a bigger size probably with the bugs worked out any ways so y buy something small only to have bugs? So yes when all those things are rezovled then i will go out and buy one. Come on people smarten up!!

  • It was funny when they showed that the VITA’s 3G coverage was AT&T…The whole crowd goes ugh

  • I’d buy the TV if i had a job :'(

  • I might get this TV since I can use it as a monitor as well :-D, Yeah At&t and Vita not sure about.

  • Please tell me you guys will release a $350 standalone PlayStation 3DTV. It looks so great, but I’m not particularly interested in R3. I’ll buy it, but not now.

  • Will each player be seeing things in 3D? I want to say no and that player one gets left eye and player two gets right eye images, but out of curiosity and no clarity in the information available, I wanted to ask.

  • TV looks interesting but I would never buy it bundled with a game and a HDMI cable because they probably price hiked it up with those in there. I wonder how much it would go for standalone and/or with some glasses. 0.o
Plus I would be more likely to get it if it were a tad bigger, not saying I don’t like small monitors, because personally I can’t stand using anything over 32″ and always have used my 22″ monitors for gaming, its that I would like to get something for watching TV on as well. :P

  • So can other Sony TVs do the splitscreen feature? could it be added in?

  • 24 inch? is THAT IT?? might as well have a psp. please please PLEASE bring us bigger sizes, i got a 36 inch and it’s decent for what it is, but even an inch less than that would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too small for gaming, especially in 3D

  • I have seen the 3D TVs out there and they are pretty neat, but expensive. I wish this was larger than 24″ as well, but the price is right. My only problem, until they figure out how to make it 3D without the need for glasses, I am not completely sold. With the headset on, and the glasses, I can see a discomfort coming. I do want R3, but I never bought R2. Looks like a trip to the store is in my near future =) And I already got the PS Move and sharpshooter that I got with SOCOM 4, getting it again would be a waste of money.

  • When will we find out details for the TV? Contrast ratio, power consumption, speakers, etc.

  • How much for the tv by itself? and it’d be nice to get the full specs of it like whether or not its a 240hz

  • My ps3 just went 3.65. Anybody else?

  • Am I being hacked????

  • @IRA_RIOS Indeed, mine as well.

  • thank you sony. for making this easyer for me to own a sony tv again. i been looking for a 3dtv for a while now i can buy muilt ps3 and this tv and have a arcade room again. i am so happy at least i can have matching products. finally i can move over to the ps3 and forget about pc gaming. i use to do this when i was 12 years of age. buy 1 playstation every year. i still have those 5 playstation orignal systems and they still work. now i can do that all over again and on top of that i can do 2d conversion to 3d. so i dont have to just play games in 2d everything can be in 3d. and it a plus for me cuse i have alot of friends that come over. so i can have 5 ps3’s with 5 playstation 3d tvs. and have a lan party in 3d. now where is the pre-order button?

  • Is this an IPS display or TN?

  • Why would you need 5 original PlayStation councils is WAAYY beyond me.

  • because in 1995 there was no internet for the playstation. and i had like 8 friends over. and we all played different games. i played street fighter alpha series. the others did resident evil series and castle vania and time crisis.

so i can game on one with a friend and the others had there own system so nobody fought over one tv. and they can play there game.

  • 3D is a fad, don’t want to wear glasses while i play a game. Just saying.

  • 32″ inch TV + Resistence 3+ HDMI Cable = $650.00.
$650.00 = Happy gamers = Happy Corporation from unending revenue stream for entry level 3d gaming monitor
3d + Sharpshooter + Awesome growing library of Move enabled games =Even larger endless stream of revenue from new and existing gamers.
PS Vita + PlayStation Suite to connect all moble devices to PSN + increased benefits to PS Plus = Totally community commitment to PlayStation Brand =Ungodly revenue source from constant connectivity.

Add all this together and you have the formula to take over the World. Its simple mathematics, all based off of a simply business principle called “Synergy”. Syncing a brand by using one platform in a major corporation to promote another. Please implement as soon as possible!

  • come on, sony did the same boring show it does every year. Sure a part or two were ok but it was dull. Nintendo always owns E3 so why would it change. As put in the Far Cry 3 Preview, “The definition of insanity is; doing the same F****** thing over and over again, expecting S*** to change” Wait to later today for a real show- a proud ps3 user

  • i wish there was a tad bit bigger screen for a little extra cash but ill still pick this up since its still a great deal

  • @2Stop complaining about AT&T. Especially since they are buying out T-Moblie they’ll be the best provider out there. Will be a matter of time till Verizon gives into them as well. But if you wanna miss out on Vita and all the amazing games just because of something so trivial, your loss.

@30 Spending 2k on a tv……wow….all i can say. Though I still doubt it has the capability of doing the duel screen image like this tv.

@48….Yea that blows big time….still gotta hurt knowing your spending so much just on some glasses that are only used for 3d….I mean even $70….yikes….I’d be iffy about even buying a second pair. I’d feel like I was wasting my money.

@50 What? Resistance is a $60 game. So you’d want them to only take off $50 for removing Resistance?

  • So it’s optimized for two players, yet they include one pair of glasses? Throw in a second pair and I’m sold.

  • I bet Sony crammed all kinds of DRM into this TV, LOL. Interesting about the split-screen capabilities (or non-split screen for that matter) but I would never buy a PlayStation branded TV, especially one as small as 24″. Plus 3DTV’s do not work for me, so it is unlikely I will ever get a 3DTV unless it gets to the point where HDTV’s come with 3D as a standard option.

  • anyone ever checked out how much 3d monitors are? they around 400 bucks and sum dont even have glasses. imo i think its a great deal…..Tv, HDMI, glasses and games!

  • Think outside the US, release it in Brazil.
