3D Display by PlayStation: Two-player mode

Among the new technology unveiled at E3 is the 3D Display, which features a 24” LCD screen with full HD 1080p 3D presentation. Available at retailers nationwide starting this fall, the 3D Display is uniquely enhanced for gaming with a special two-player feature, offering best-in-class visuals in both 2D and 3D. The 3D Display utilizes an exclusive feature that optimizes two-player mode by delivering individual full HD screens, giving each person their own full screen view of the action on the same display while playing co-op or head-to-head. With an ultra-slim PlayStation inspired bezel design and built-in speakers and subwoofer, the 3D Display is big on image quality and sound and delivers all of your HD media simply by connecting to PS3, PC or cable TV box. It’s perfect for bedrooms, dorm rooms or wherever you want to play the best 3D console games.

3D Glasses by PlayStation

We also announced official 3D Glasses, which are optimized for gaming with comfortable stylish design and built-in rechargeable battery – a perfect match for the 3D Display. You’ll get a pair of these with the 3D Display, but you can also purchase them separately for $69.99 (MSRP) – and you’ll probably want to, given the new exclusive feature on the 3D Display. In addition, the 3D Glasses will work with a variety of active shutter type of 3D TVs and displays.

Each 3D Display will include one pair of 3D Glasses as well as an HDMI cable and a copy of Resistance 3 on Blu-ray disc—all of $499.99 (MSRP)

Resistance 3: Doomsday Edition

Resistance 3, The Doomsday Edition is without a question the best way to experience the upcoming title from Insomniac Games. The bundle, which includes a copy of the game on Blu-ray disc, a PlayStation Move motion controller, navigation controller, PlayStation Eye, and PlayStation Move sharp shooter, will be available at retailers nationwide on September 6, 2011, for $149.99 (MSRP). Taking advantage of the sharp shooter’s authentic, ergonomic design and pinpoint precision with the PlayStation Move locked in, the Chimeran menace will have nowhere to hide.

Not long ago, we announced the official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset , and we’re very happy to see the positive response you’ve all had. With unparalleled virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset is a great way to completely wrap yourself into your favorite games. As we’ve mentioned before, we here at PlayStation are always looking for new ways to enhance and expand your gaming experience. Marrying the best software lineup in PlayStation history with offerings designed to fully immerse you into the gameplay, there’s never been a better time to be a PlayStation 3 owner. I can’t wait to use these in my home too!

  • When will the tech for two people seeing two separate images be featured on bigger Sony products with more features. I don’t buy smaller than 32 inches for gaming displays. I’d like to get a nice 52″ or bigger with this feature. One thing that annoys me with Killzone 3 at present or any game that features split screen.

Also any plans for implementing that technology so two separate individuals can use the sharp shooter or a combination of DS3 and SSM (SharpShooter Move).

  • @29 because they advertised it as a display with 3D not a 3DTV. to me that sound like a monitor u get with a computer

  • 24 inch display at 1080p is the PERFECT size for TV/monitor combo.

  • When will it be available in Asia? I need it asap!

  • I think this is the perfect price for this display. It’s price is as cheap is other 3D monitors on the market. Plus why would you want it any bigger. Its not like you can use this as a TV. It does not have a TV tuner. Plus, its the first of it’s kind. If I can also use this as a computer monitor I’ll buy it when it comes out. If not, this would make a great x-mas gift to myself.

@77 At E3 they said it would be bundled with the HDMI cable, R3, and glasses bundle priced at $149, so I’m assuming alone it would be $350. I plan on buying it to replace the monitor that I have hooked up to my PC and PS3.

@73 it’s possible the technology could be added, it could even be adopted by other companies for use in their TVs if they so choose to do so and are able/allowed to.

@90 It’s branded SONY with the Playstation logo, meaning it’s OPTIMIZED for the PS3.

@72 Currently, with all of the information that has been given, the bundle looks like a steal, but that can change for the better or worse once they release the tech specs.

Oh, and just noticed it can display 2 images at once via the bottom 3 pictures of it, which is pretty darn cool. Would be nice if they released larger versions in the future.

  • @Rovelius Agreed.
I love the look of the TV and the size is just right for a bedroom. I’ve been in the market for a new personal TV myself, but as a fighting game player, I want that 2ms response time, too. I don’t think people really get that the bigger you go, the more difficult it is to keep response time low…

  • I already have a 24″ LCD at a better 40000:1 contrast with 2ms response time … the only thing I DON’T have is 3D … so I’m really not sure on this =/

  • I’m glad I didn’t buy a new T.V./Monitor yet, but buying this will come down to what inputs it has. I’m hoping it has more than one HDMI input. Perhaps the Component, Composite, and other optional connections we can choose from when setting up our PS3 systems.

But judging from the price I also hope it’s going to make it as an LED screen as well. Not so interested in the game as much and I can’t see 3-D but this is a rather god deal if the display is worth it :D

  • I have a 32″ LCD HD tv but I’d get this tv over that old tech tv anyday.. BTW I just checked, most 32″ 3DTV’s cost 1 grand. So FAT chance in sony selling a 32″ for less than 1k… I know it’s small but the 3d is freaking sweet.. I was planning on getting a 3d tv of a bigger size and different brand, but now Sony has me sold on this puppy. I saw a side photo, it is paper thin, so Wall mounting will be possible in my room! Thats what this tv is for after all. it’s no main room tv.. I’ll use my 32″ LCD as a PC monitor.

  • ThePerfectMurder

Bad news guys. I want both packages.

  • The Only thing I’ll get rid of is the game.. I hated R2 after a while, it just got boring, the online was terrible.. Don’t hate on me dudes. But I also don’t like the cover… I guess they fired the art team?

  • that-acmilan-guy

My jaws dropped and I couldn’t stop my happiness when I the magic of splitscreen gameplay in this TV, price is awesome!

  • Will the TV bundle be available in europe?

  • i was gonna get a tv and this just answered which one.

  • I want one so bad but too many things coming out around the same time. Resistance 3, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 2, Uncharted 3, PS Vita, and this. I’m going to have to budget my money

  • omg. i cant stop smiling

  • As far as using the tv in my bed room it is the perfect size.Right now I have an old small 19″ tv in my room and that works great but I need an upgrade and this is a great price for a great bundle without a dough but I’ll still play on the 62″ in the living room.

  • One more problem will the 3Dglasses be able to over regular glasses???

  • Thats a little steep on the price, 24′ is small to 3D game on plus with all the price drops you can get a 50′ Samsung for 799 with 2 pair of glasses at BestBuy sometimes just saying..

  • 24″ display!!! hahahahhahahhaa I think ill keep my 47″ 120hz Vizio thanks.

  • For people saying “I will not get rid of my tv unless this tv is a certain size” need to STOP.
It seems that Sony is pushing to sell this to people who already have a tv and just need something smaller for a small room or area.
Also this tv would be GREAT for a few friends of mine, because it’s in a great price range also they are using older tv(s) to play on their PS3(s).
Give Sony a break and if this tv turns out to be as bad as the Playstation soundbar, then you can eat Sony alive then.

  • The “review” is a lil disconcerting but they gots pics !

  • @John Koller

Need to ask.. any chances for the bundle to arrive in SA? In Brazil more specifically? It is time for me to change my TV, so I was planning to get an 3D TV, and this one would fit as a glove to me…

  • how much is just the tv?

  • i got a 24″ for $199 at best buy. i can live without 3D but i have to admit i really want one

  • I’ll be giving you $100 for the PS3 headset later this year and I have two 3D TVs now (65 inch and 73 inch) so I’ll pass. But this is a tremendous starter set or for someone with limited space. The tech is just plain sick!

  • were do they sell it how much money do we need 2 buy glasses are they recharge able because ill buy i

  • Hey Sony, how about firmware updating the XBR-52HX909 to do the same thing for those of us that spent $3,800 for the whole package, you can’t tell me this flagship TV isn’t capable?
Also will these PS 3D Glasses work with the XBR-52HX909 and charge from it’s USB port?

  • That tv is about as ugly as i imagine a tv could be. Ugly gray ugly curve ugly borders border on top but not the bottom. Sony makes some great tvs, how did they come up with this crap?

Whoever asked – it’s a “display” but can display tv with the correct input meaning it doens’t have a tv tuner so satellite or cable would work.

24″ on a widescreen is kinda tiny. I’m looking to replace my bedroom 32″ w/ a 3D tv so I’ll wait. If they got rid of the borders like the newer LED tv’s a 32″ wouldn’t be much larger. Good price though for the technology, too bad it’s just so damned ugly.

The 32″ 3D Sony tv w/ internet access (Netflix, Youtube, yada yada) is under $800 (glasses sold separately)

  • when will it be release??? ……….

  • PSN ROCK AND SONY

  • THANKS SONY NOW I CANT GET BACK ON SMACKDOWN VS RAW 2011 NO MORE FOR SHUTING DOWN PSN

  • THANKS SONY NOW I CANT GET BACK ONLINE SMACKDOWN VS RAW 2011 NO MORE FOR U SHUTING DOWN PSN

  • give me a larger screen say at least 32 and its a buy :) Until then I will stick with my other hdtv

  • You guys all realize that when in dual “split screen” mode – there is no 3D, right? Unless they confirm otherwise – it seems they left this little negative tidbit out. Since 3D uses 2 screens that flip back and forth, the only way to do the split feature is to use each screen for each player – rendering each player in 2D mode only. I’ll still buy it but I thought you should know.

  • AWESOME!!! will be a larger size for sure… but AWWWYEAH!

  • Faxsikos:

That’s correct sir. Each player will have to wear 3D glasses…but they’ll only see a normal 2D view…complete with that annoying dim sheer that you always get when wearing those glasses.

I’m also guessing that only certain games will support this feature (or else you’ll need to plug in TWO consoles). And when “only certain games” support a feature — you just know that not many will.

Look at the MOVE. It’s practically dead already.

  • I don’t get why they can’t do 3d on regular tvs? My sega master system had sick 3d in 1985 on my wood paneled tube tv. Is 3d gaming similar to the 3d movies of today? I can’t even see the 3d in most of em. The thought of 3d games does sound interesting though.

  • i want it. pretty awesome and cheap!!

  • i dont know but it looks the same to me as a normal t.v :\

  • I want 1

  • @16 yes because the way 3d works it would be using both of the frames simataniously to create the 3d so you are each only seeing one of the frames as the shutter on the glasses is timed to block the other players frames

  • @136 except for the 3d and full screen split screen

  • will the this work with 3d on the pc

  • Only 24 inches, i like to pwn noobs at at least 48 inches.

  • denruT_emiT_Back

    Three words:
    SONY
    IS
    BACK!!!!

  • Since nobody else is talking about the wireless headset, I guess I will. Just finished reading some more info on it. It’s got 7.1 surround sound but only for games. The surround sound doesn’t work for Blu-Ray movies. Why the heck not? Makes no sense. Have the surround work for both and I’ll buy.

  • As I always say “expect nothing but the best from Sony”

  • @148 I’m sure the movie functionality will come with a firmware update of some kind – that would rock… maybe they won’t because they can’t handle more than 1 headset at a time if you have company. Which seems pretty sad IMHO lol
