PS3 System Software Update (v3.65)

Eric Lempel's Avatar Posted by

SVP, Marketing & PlayStation Network

Earlier tonight we released an optional system software update (v3.65) for PlayStation 3. This new firmware improves the operating stability of some PS3 format software, and changes the XMB item SaveData Utility (minis) to [SaveData Utility(minis/PSP)].

Again, this update is optional, and can be downloaded by selecting System Update from the Setting column of the XMB.

Like I stated in another thread: Sony, please monitor these posts, make a list of the whiners and complainers, brick their systems, and send them Target/Best Buy/Walmart cards so they can go buy an Xbox. I would trade any other feature you have planned if you’d just do that for me. Please?

@285 – I personally think it’s kind of a silly feature to want – but I had the luxury of being on a campus for the past four years, where there was no need for cross game chat,. cause if I was playing multiplayer it was already in a crowded room. It won’t change the value of my purchase if Sony implements it or not, but hey, if people want to gripe about it, they’re comments do me no harm. And if you think about it, it really goes against the grain of Sony’s social initiative they put at the forefront of their press conference…
So, maybe these whiners have a point. I won’t use it, but maybe Sony really is behind the curve on this one. And if it does get a few more folks to the system, I’ll always take a bit more variety to my game lobbies – just so long as I can mute their chat! =D

This whole year Sony has done nothing but make me want Xbox Live. I am an online only person and if I do not have cross game chat soon imma sell my PS3 and get a 360. Not too much keeping me on PS3 besides family I play online with. This whole year Sony has been very ungrateful and i’m fed up with it.
Btw this is not just about party chat this is about lack of communication.
You people need to quit kissing sony’s ass and let them know what you want.
PSN has been the same way since it released and we deserve a change.

hey dumb*** Sony doesn’t owe you s***, if you’re so da** unhappy without x-game chat then goto x-box live and spend 50$ year, “Sony has been very ungrateful and i’m fed up with it” what kind of BS is that, who effing cares if you’re fed up with it. The world doesn’t revolve around your pimple busting a**.

Put_Your_Mom_On said:

very well put.

Like i said, im not saying that they are wrong in wanting it, im just saying its becoming abnoxious now.

SONY: We are sorry about the network being down and we are trying our best to fix this issue in a timely manner.

RANDOM PS3 USER: will it have cross game chat now?

SONY: We are excited about our E3 booth live on the Playstation Home!!!

RANDOM PS3 USER: cross game chat!

SONY: Here is your welcome back package and details on how to get it!!!

RANDOM PS3 U… well u get the idea haha.

Im just sick of seeing it every where. If it’s really that important to the individual I think they should explore their other options. Nobody, including Sony, is forcing them to use this brand.

naar_kadov said:

June 7th, 6:21 am

we need more audio options while playing video, like bass, treble control etc.

MiNdS-_-13 said:

June 7th, 6:25 am

I know is showing ( im sorry ) is just that this little kids whine about no crossgame chat on every blog like is crazy noone cares , i personally dont want cross game chat cause is dumb

A_Belmont said:

June 7th, 6:27 am

I get what you’re saying – People can’t say – “Where’s mah psn?” now so they yap – “where’s mah cross game chat?” Habits die hard I guess, or Sony is really out of touch with a portion of it’s user base. Those wanting cross game chat are really serious about it though, to be posting all the time, in all the forums. I mean, that’s how passionate I felt about the PS – store going down, one of the calculated reasons I bought into Sony was access to demos and additional content – also…most of my psp games weren’t backed up and I wanted to download them again…. so I was really gung ho about asking for updates.
But yeah, unless they’re kids who are using systems bought by other people, they’re not forced to choose Sony. However, they are showing enthusiasm for the Sony brand, and why do any of us want Sony’s profit margin to take a hit, that’ll just drive the prices up for us! Sure these whiners are loud and obnoxious, but they play their part in keeping demand high and prices low(er), so what the heck, I’ll put up with their noise.

LETS TRY TO HELP!!!, I dont think sony Has ever done an optional update before.. maybe some bugs accoured wile trying to do this.

+Was this update opional to you, Yes/No (Yes)
+DO you have automatic login on/off (I had Off)
+Do you have automatic Sign in, on/off (I had On)
+Do You Have your passwrod saved to your ps3 ( I Do)
+ Do you have PS+ Yes/NO (Yes)
+What modle ps3 are you using=

Did yout acctualy update after the psn was down already?

Now maybe there was no bugs. and sony was forceing certian models to have to update, or certian users who have been in trouble with sony? who knows.

IPI-_Gh0sT_-IGI said:

@298 Why in the world would your ps3 be on seperate internet then your pc, and your ps3s internet be slower then your pc???? Are you trying to get some type of advantage? well in that case i hope you can not download it on the pc, and u have to download it on your ps3 and it takes for ever! i updated in about 5minutes.

If you know yor ps3s internet is slow, please upgrade as you would be contributing to LAG in online gaming.

@258 IF Microsoft has a patent on that (I doj’t think that’s the case), then Sony’s breaking it already. A good number of the 100+ games I own support custom soundtrack, through the HARDWARE – they all work the same way: open XMB in-game, pick your music, play it, and if the game supports it, it will play. Start trying it with all your games, you’ll be surprised how many support the option … thank god for custom soundtrack in games like Peggle, Critter Crunch, Modnation Racers, Joe Danger, etc.

pvOwnage said:

If your that big on cross game chat, either hop on the same game as a friend, or go to XBL. We dont need something so useless. Besides, anyone who knows systems knows that cross game chat is hardware based as well DERP

to all those complaining about cross game chat

they anounced at there e3 press confrence that it was coming with the PSVita
so stop crying and be patient PlayStation is the best s*** out there and they will give you what you want only when they have it perfect.

if you feel it necesary then go ahead and switch to the Xbox and be a lame.
for me its PlayStation and I will be Elite.

Got off of here for awhile and was hoping someone would answer my question. Is there an actual reason Cross Game Chat can be used? So far it all seems like lazy people that don’t want to take an extra minute to dial a number.

My console continues to overheat with LaNoire.I have a ps3 fat 60gb, Rockstar games can´t resolve my problem, sony doesn´t do anything. What i do with the game?Throw it away?

Put_Your_Mom_On said:

June 7th, 8:01 am

the only ACTUAL reason i saw to answer ur question was for ur friends from overseas or friends u met online and don’t want having ur number. which is a good point.

i have that problem myself.

i just wait for them to get on

Bubaroo said:

June 7th, 8:02 am

@ Overdose. Nothing yet. I just checked and still. Does anyone know what’s coming in the store this week?

teekomeeko said:

June 7th, 8:04 am

Do people really think Sony isn’t doing cross-game chat out of spite or laziness? I’m not trying to be an apologist here, but be realistic people. If a company can keep lots of customers from spending money elsewhere with a simple feature, they’d do it every time, so it’s likely not a simple thing to implement and will happen when they can make it work. If you can’t live without it, buy a 360 and go away, because complaining more and more isn’t going to achieve anything more than the previous torrent of whining has done (though I’ll admit that I doubt the feature won’t arrive by year’s end thanks to the Vita’s upcoming release).

Bubaroo said:

June 7th, 8:04 am

@313 Then why wouldn’t get their numbers or plan for the next excersion during the current one? Not arguing it’s a viable excuse, just seems like there are ways around it, people are just too lazy. I for one still think it’s pointless and just something else to take up memory on my console.

Optionalshot said:

June 7th, 8:07 am

I just singed in without updating.

Bubaroo said:

June 7th, 8:08 am

Sweet. Just finished downloading the new motor storm demo. Played the demo for the first title in the series, and I must say I don’t care for racing games. I do love apocalypse settings though, and wouldn’t pass up a chance to play a game placed in such a setting. so here’s to hoping it changes my mind.

Put_Your_Mom_On said:

June 7th, 8:10 am

oh if u read my posts, im neither for it or against it. i didn’t like it on the 360, but i could see why others would want it. which is cool.. if sony wants to implement it, then who am i to tell them not to?

i just wish the whining and begging and demanding and spamming about it would stop.

and i also logged in with out updating.

and still, nobody has told me if the update did anything haha

Bubaroo said:

June 7th, 8:13 am

@319 I’m not sure it has done anything. Nothing I noticed anyway. It let me sign on without doing it, but I usually get the updates regardless what they’re for. As for the whining and spamming, well, internet gives everyone a voice, and it seems everyone chooses to use that voice to whine about problems with video game companies. Even if they do impliment cross game chat, there will still be those that are unhappy.

rhcp1377 said:

June 7th, 8:14 am

@311 and all others about cross game chat being pointless… (1) Single player games would be more enjoyable if you could talk to somebody. (I own both fallouts and love them but rarely ever play them unless NO ONE I want to play with is online.) (2) For a practicle use in which a game would benefit, Borderlands has attrociously laggy multiplayer communication and party chat would hopefully fix that. I have a good stable wired connection, that game just has issues (3) Many games have become ghostly quiet as of late (Boot up CoD4 go ahead try it) No one ever uses mics so really it wouldn’t matter, although it would destroy MAG’s comunication and teamwork…

rhcp1377 said:

June 7th, 8:14 am

Granted it’s a feature I’ll live without it but the option would be nice…

Bubaroo said:

June 7th, 8:19 am

@ 321 1. If you are playing a game by yourself, play it by yourself, if you want to chat with friends, call them up. 2. That sounds like something more to do with borderlands then sony and a Cross game chat I don’t think would fix it. You’re just putting that many more voices online. 3. So, in a nutshell, if you can’t talk to someone while playing, it isn’t fun? Because no is on COD4 talking, you don’t enjoy playing it? Just trying to put things into perspective. And I still don’t see a reason to have it. PS does well enough at keeping everyone connected. You just need to learn how to use it, i guess.

Erik026 said:

June 7th, 8:20 am

Bubaroo said:

June 7th, 8:21 am

And not YOU as in You, but YOU as in a general term used to describe a group of people. Not singling you out, I have just never owned a Box and can’t figure out why cross-game chat is so important.

Dante989 said:

June 7th, 8:23 am

I’m a huge fan sony but you have me very upset… you added party chat to VITA but not the PS3….

Erik026 said:

June 7th, 8:24 am

bubaroo i think many people are mad that the vita is getting it, but yet sony stays quiet about cross game chat on ps3 (again)

Bubaroo said:

June 7th, 8:27 am

@Erik Yeah, I don’t get that. I imagine Sony has an actual reason for it, but I don’t understand. You think if they could put it on one, they could do it with the other. It’s cool. Even if they implement it, my headset will still sit in the cradle. Never have had much use for it, even when there was a use for it.

i am truly disapointed how people are still cheating in games like SOCOM even with the earlier mandatory firmware release that was to combat the hack from geohotz site. i was told that there is software that lets them bypass the new firmware and lets them still run the old ones. Sony, are you aware of this? are you fixing it or just giving up because this has ruined my PSN experience with certain (and the only ones i enjoy playing) games. PLEASE RESPOND
