Earlier tonight we released an optional system software update (v3.65) for PlayStation 3. This new firmware improves the operating stability of some PS3 format software, and changes the XMB item SaveData Utility (minis) to [SaveData Utility(minis/PSP)].
Again, this update is optional, and can be downloaded by selecting System Update from the Setting column of the XMB.
I am dissapointed at sony for all of this stuff that has been going on it is really frustrating to the playstation community and there should be more improvments to all the gaming systems such as playstation 3 and the playstation portable.The users of playstation ask for cross-gamechattingand the software update should come with that new feature.Thank you

Is there anyone under 40 that doesn’t whine, piss, and moan about something no matter what is done? It used to be when people retired, they started to legitimately have concerns and voice their opinions like this. Sure hey were crotchety old farts, but they weren’t whining about extended game time. What are you guys going to do when you’re 70? Realize you wasted your prime years whining about things instead of enjoying the good things in life? If you are even here, you have a lot to be thankful for. Count your blessings.
Can someone explain this to me. I have plus and when i turned it on it said Software update 3.65 was downloaded. I than go check the system settings and its still on the old firmware 3.61. After this i click update and it updates again and downloads. Why did i tell me it downloaded the update if it didnt it doesnt make any sense?

Sony, I know that you are preparing for the release of the PSVita with this update, but here are some suggestions that may be of more use to us hardcore gamers:
1. > A new DASHBOARD!!!
2. > OTHEROS back!!!!
3. > A few more visualizations for the music player.
4. > The Ability to use .jpg or .png files for your avatar. (So a person could use his/her picture)
5. > Automatic sync for the trophies. ( or at least the option to do it )
6. > Speed up the action of accessing your xmb while in game.
I would like to add that I have been a dedicated ps3 user for the past 4 years (ever since i threw my xbox360 out the window due to frustration with the RROD), and that I believe that even though you guys took OTHEROS away, you still are doing a fairly good job.
You should add some functionnalities like the long-awaited cross-game chat (if XBox360 can have it why can’t you make it??? Are you telling us that Microsoft is greater than Sony???)

Cross game chat isnt coming! If we didnt get it by now then its less and less likely to ever arrive. Also optional or not its good that sonys still up to their old ways of letting people know at the last second about these things.

Other OS will never come back and is still existing on the FAT systems hard disk but inaccessable after the update. The slim system dont even have OTHEROS on the system even hidden it is not lol.
They will not do the avatar thing because then all you gotta do is go online and download the picture of the avatar there selling on the store. So they wont make money from it.
They also cant do the dashboard thing because too many people would complain.

P.S. Those oh-so-evil hackers that just want to pirate games have in fact gotten Linux to run on a Slim. Sony jacked its customers (and lied about it, claiming they would continue to support Linux on the Phats) as a cost saving measure, not to prevent piracy. Hackers just provided an excuse that loyalists would fall over themselves to believe.
Can we get an official statement on why we don’t have cross gaming chat and the back end of the systems life cycle? (Being on the back end is not a bad thing or a diss, it happens to everything and with new systems coming it means its the back end even if its another 5 years for the next system)
Cross game chat is great for growen boys who lack the ambition to leave their parents basement. As for the rest of the normal gaming community we are all able to pick up phones and contact friends. Maybe have a gaming party at your house. This is possiable when you move out and can enjoy your own space.
Cross gaming chat is pointless and a huge waste of resources. Let’s move on and progress gaming.

2: Wrong. OtherOS was not removed due to piracy. Sony admitted that it was removed because they did not want to pay to keep the Linux drivers updated.
4: Wrong. They won’t let it happen because you’d have a million and one obscene pic avatars. That’s pretty obvious.
5: Autosync is for Plus? I have Plus, and I don’t have any trophy autosync. Where are you getting your info? Stop pulling this crap out of your butt.
Things should be looking up for Sony from here on out. But did you see the new features on Live that are coming? Live TV and also UFC will be broadcasting there. Sony is taking the gaming department home this year but it looks like M$ is taking the year off to go in a different direction. They bought Skype and also invested into Facebook and Comcast a while back. It is obvious that they are expanding in more features. PS3 is still my fave console but I appreciate the luxury of owning both. Ask yourself why you have to choose. Its kind of silly, don’t you think?

Sweet, backed up my PSP saves on my PS3, my memory stick has been kind of wonky so this was a godsend.

I signed on without updating to 3.65 and had no issues. Pretty wierd that some have been forced to update; I could care less about 3.65 as so many others have said – give an update with improvements that we actually want.

I’m not sure if this is related, but after my automatic download brought this optional patch onto my ps3, I am now freezing and locking up like crazy while playing mag. Half a dozen times today already its frozen up, where as the last week I’ve been playing not one time did I have it lock up. Maybe its unrelated, and I’m just getting unlucky but something feels off.
