The Drop: Week of June 25th 2011 New Releases

The Drop returns with a strong collection of third party games and unique PSN titles this week.

Before you hit the jump, make sure you take a quick recap session of what we’ve been up to since you last visited The Drop. We conquered E3 with our live stream show from the PlayStation Booth, we’ve announced PS Vita and its phenomenal price of $249.99 and finally, we’ve ventured into the Chimerian occupied Earth with the premiere of our dev diaries with a behind-the-scenes retrospective on Resistance 3.

PlayStation 3

Dungeon Siege III — Torn asunder, the delicate balance of power between the kingdom of Ehb’s powerful factions has fallen apart. As one of the few remaining members of the disgraced protectors of the land, the 10th Legion, it is up to you to rebuild the once great Legion and stop Ehb from falling into darkness. Joined by a group of unique companions, you will travel through the striking land of Ehb defeating all manner of villains and beasts through a combination of heroic abilities, screen shaking magic and pure cunning.

F.E.A.R 3 — Nine months ago, Point Man and his F.E.A.R. squad were tapped to stop a telepathically gifted cannibal who had begun a murderous rampage. Point Man learned the target was his brother, Paxton Fettel, working alongside their tortured and psychically powerful mother, Alma Wade. Despite this revelation, Point Man followed orders to destroy them and subsequently ravaged the surrounding city and most of his F.E.A.R. team. Now, it is clear that Alma’s psychic influence survived— and worse, she is about to birth something that could destroy the world.

Fettel has returned from death with an unclear agenda, refusing to leave Point Man’s side and asking for help to reach Alma. The remaining F.E.A.R. squad is still trying to complete their mission. With his chain of command broken and Point Man calling his own shots, where will his allegiance lie?

Shadows of the Damned –– With Shadows of the Damned, creative geniuses Suda 51 (No More Heroes) and Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) present an all-new vision of hell unlike anything seen before! A psychological action thriller, Shadows of the Damned follows a demon hunter deep into a hyper-twisted re-imagining of hell where he must rescue the love of his life by defeating the armies of darkness with the power of the light.

Garcia is a hard-as-nails, leather-clad, motorcycle-riding professional demon hunter who finds his true love kidnapped by vengeance-seeking demons. As he explores the farthest reaches of the netherworld, Garcia battles through hell and back, with danger and turmoil around every corner. Throughout Shadows of the Damned gamers will find themselves challenged by demented puzzles and thrust into gruesome battles with vile and deformed creatures that can only come from the darkest recesses of hell.

Cars 2 — Bring players inside the international training center CHROME (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage), where they choose from more than 20 different characters and train to become world class spies. As part of their international training, they will participate in simulated hazardous missions using high-tech gadgets to evade and slow down adversaries.

PlayStation Network

Alien Zombie Mega Death — Somewhere far far away in a random solar system, a lone space man dies… horribly. Take control of said fateful space man as he battles to his end against the dreaded Alien Zombies! Using a standard laser gun and a few pickups along the way, make sure you take out as many of those Alien Zombie suckers before they take you down. Its that simple. It’s Alien Zombie Death.

  • Virtua Tennis 4 (PlayStation Move Support)

minis

Brick Breaker — In this ultimate version of the classic brick-busting game, there are 50 levels in classic mode, 12 levels in dual paddle mode, dozens of unusual bonuses, a rocket launcher, bouncing balls, a platform hazard, a screen that will make you go crazy!

Labyrinth — In this game the carnivorous plants have been let out! To escape from their insatiable appetite, you must devour all the seeds in the labyrinth, trick them, change direction, accelerate, go down the secret passages and eat up all the magic fruit to increase your strength and become the new predator of the labyrinth.

Solitaire — Take the first and most popular of all card games with you wherever you go, whether you’re on public transport or in a waiting room, with a spare 5 minutes or an hour to kill!

  • Rey! It’s good to see you and “The Drop” back on the PlayStation Blog. Thanks again for all the E3 coverage :)

  • Welcome Back! Missed your Drops. Lots of cool stuff on psn this week too! Scarlet Mortal Kombat DLC, LA Noire and Killzone 3. Sweet week! Lets hope we see Beyond good and evil. Did you guys get any Final Fantasy or Tomb Raider E3 stuff other then whats on the ps store?

  • Cool Nice to see the Drop back and running! Though I was looking for one particular game: BEYOND GOOD & EVIL!!!!! WHERE IS IT!!???

  • Digital-Big-Boss

Any word on Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions?

or Tony Hawk on PSone classics?

  • It’s finally back!

  • Slim pickings. It isn’t summer yet the drought is being felt. Still no BG&E? Nothing for PSP? PSone Classics? PSOne Imports? I think my guess of Sony catching up on 6 weeks worth of stuff in a single update wasn’t to far off.

  • Oy, nice to see you back with the Drop, Rey.

    (high-five)

It’s such an invaluable asset in planning out the week’s expenses, LOL!!

Now where are those PSOne Classics?? (^__^)

  • No Playstation Classics this week either? :(

Btw: It looks like the Alien Zombie Mega Death game under the Playstation Network games has the Outland description, Rey. o.O

  • Where where where where where where is Beyond Good and Evil? Europe got it, yet you guys won’t even give us a hint of when it’s coming, or if we’re going to get the PS+ discount that we were going to have gotten on it before the network went down.

Please answer us on this, every blog post has tons of comments asking about this game, even if the post has nothing to do with the PlayStation Store!

  • The description for AZMD is wrong. It’s Showing the details for Outland.

Still no new PSOne Classics (where’s PE2, FF 5/6, Chrono Trigger, etc?).
    Still no BG&E?

Why has everything gone back to normal when things still have not been all caught up?

None of it would even be too big of a deal if we were given some sort of reasoning behind it, but there’s been complete silence over the whole thing.

Oh, and this week is really weak.

  • Any news on when the fallout dlc old world blues is droping

  • O…kay then. Would love to see news on Retro/Grade. That has been in development for what, 3 years?

  • Didn’t know Outland was re-releasing as ‘Alien Zombie Mega Death.’ Doesn’t quite fit the premise of the game.

  • Looking foward to buying the PlayStation Vita, keep up the good work.

  • when is dungeons and dragons daggerdale coming to psn? any word?

  • What about ODDWORLD Stranger’s Wrath? Last I heard it was due in spring. That’s past now.

    Any word?

  • Where’s Parasite Eve II?

And this is a very weak update. Seriously, 3 minis, 1 Demo, and 1 game with the wrong description? I hope next Drop is a lot bigger than this and finally get Parasite Eve II as well as some other classics a lot of people have been asking, like Final Fantasy Anthology, I mean seriously the UK’s got them why can’t we get them? :(

  • No PSone classics :(

  • @17 It was never rated by the ESRB for PS3/PSP, so it’s not coming anytime soon.

  • Wow, still no Daggerdale. What the heck is going on? =/

  • If I can give some constructive criticism about this years’ PlayStation Blog’s E3 live show coverage, I would have to say add more things during the down time between the live interviews/demonstrations. Kinda just having the camera overlook the Sony booth was nice, but boring. A suggestion could be to have someone go down the the show floor and interview attendees to see what they’re excited about in Sony’s booth or just schedule more game demos to fill those gaps, cuz 1 interview per half hour (or even per hour) isn’t enough. Other than that, E3 with Sony was pretty cool.

  • why are you releasing the Virtua Tennis 4 demon AGAIN!? You already put it on the store a few months ago, I distinctly remember downloading and playing it.

  • So I just watched a trailer for AZMD and it’s really no different than the mini’s version AZD. What was the point exactly? Don’t answer that btw, I already know the point was to get people to buy this garbage for what will probably be double the price of the mini’s version because you stamped the same exact game as a full on PSN title.

So that also kind of means this week doesn’t even get a full PSN game. Just a load of minis.

  • Oh man no case pick for the shadows of the damned. That game is going to rule. Imma sad panda.

  • Where is Beyond Good & Evil?!?!? Its been out on the EU store since the 8th, and the NA users still don’t have it. Why?

  • Looks like I already have Labyrinth, except it’s called Pac-Man.

  • why does it say the week of the 25? Shouldn’t it be the week of the 19th?

  • The anthem for the Drop post should be this!———————>The Pharcyde – Drop

  • wow i like how all the red and blue look on this post, very playstation-like

  • This is kinda off topic but I would really like to see a new Jak and daxter game for ps3

  • Nice post, I’d love it if when you don’t have a PS1 classic to post you give us X-COM: UFO Defense!!! Please spread the word to make that happen. Being able to play it on the go via my PSP would make my fricken day!

    Support it here: https://share.blog.us.playstation.com/ideas/2010/04/15/x-com-ufo-defense-2/

    Thanks!

  • wow glad to see the drop back, but maybe you should’ve waited another week. This has to be the worst update i’ve ever seen! Are the 3rd party publishers abandoning psn or something? I mean d&d daggerdale, yars revenge or beyond good and evil should be on psn by now. You should at least put some ps1 classics on here. chrono cross or legend of dragoon would sell like crazy, especially since there is nothing else to buy. I mean are you trying to make money or not?

  • When is ps vita coming out i cant wait… And is mw3 coming for vita?

  • I’m really excited to play Shadows of the Damned; finally a Suda 51 game that looks like it plays well. I’m also considering buying Fear 3 (I refuse to call it F.3.A.R.)

  • My only question is this why haven’t we received much of an update lately like these updates seem poor nothing worth looking at they don’t seem to make me want to spend my cash any ways i got an idea how about working on a giant update to get us caught up!

  • Nice, and yeah we did enjoy the E3 coverage thank you Sony.

  • Yay! I’ve always loved these posts. Good to have them back.

  • When is ps vita release date?

  • Any word on Daggerdale for PSN, Xbox has had it forever and I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels left out of the DnD love

  • What a weak week for PSN. I’m fine on the retail side with Shadows of the Damned, but what the hell is holding up Beyond Good & Evil? 360 users have had it for ages and it’s already out in EU. The Castlevania: LOS “Resurrection” DLC had better be out this week as well considering you guys were supposed to have it up last week. -_-

  • Shadows of the Damned is THE GAME to get this week if you ask me. The minds behind Vanquish, Resident Evil and Silent Hill teaming up for a game? Day One Buy.

  • I’ve seen Dungeon Siege III for sale at 5 stores already. I didn’t think it was supposed to be out yet, but they were ringing them up for customers and everything.

  • No psp games? you would think that with the Vita coming out you’d at least try and put out some classic psp games like Crisis Core, or some past psp games. good to know that you guys still arent taking the psp seriously. i doubt you guy will take the vita seriously as well.

  • It’s nice to have this back, will ModNation Monday be back tomorrow?

  • No word on Stranger’s Wrath HD? I’m dying to play that game again. Any possibility of a remake of Conker: Live & Reloaded in the future?

  • hey which version of the vita are you getting? 249 or 299 one?

  • Thanks on The Drop. Thanks Rey.
