The Best of PlayStation at E3 2011

E3 may have wrapped up a few weeks back, but the excitement here at PlayStation is growing by the day. Not only are we coming off of one of the most successful E3s we’ve had in recent memory, but we are preparing for the launch of some of this year’s most-anticipated software titles as well as a couple of very exciting new pieces of hardware.

This year we showcased one of the strongest software lineups in our history, including many creative and show stopping titles for the upcoming PlayStation Vita, family friendly options for PlayStation Move and an amazing lineup of AAA titles and franchise favorites for PS3. The positive response we received from our community was overwhelming, and the confirmation from E3 judges was very gratifying. In fact, PlayStation hardware and software was nominated for more than 140 awards at E3 this year. Here’s a look at just a few of the accolades we received:

The year ahead will be a memorable one for PlayStation fans everywhere. The introduction of innovative hardware such as PS Vita and the PlayStation 3D Display will set the bar high when it comes to both quality and creativity. PlayStation Vita will provide gamers with the highest definition handheld gaming experiences, delivering new ways to play at home and on-the-go. In addition, the PlayStation 3D Display will offer PS3 users and their friends the ability to face-off with the exclusive two-player mode and provide easy access to all of their favorite 3D entertainment. Developers meanwhile will have more ways than ever to challenge and change the way people play and experience PlayStation games.

We are continuing to work closely with the global community of Worldwide Studios game developers and partners to deliver innovative games and content for the entire family of PlayStation hardware. I’m personally looking forward to all of the great software titles launching in the upcoming months, including Resistance 3, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One and Twisted Metal. We’ve got some great new PlayStation Move titles coming as well, including Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest, and Carnival Island. And of course…we’ve got all kinds of great PlayStation Vita titles in the works, including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet and Sound Shapes. Too much goodness to talk about in one little blog post…

Thanks to all of the great PlayStation fans out there who helped make E3 2011 one to remember!

Thanks,
Scott

  • This is going to be the biggest hit of 2011!

  • coool!!!!!!

  • Will the Vita be available in white or any color other than the same old boring black? Please say yes! I won’t be buying it if it’s black only. That’s how sick I am of black.

  • I love updates like this, I would love more specific information about the vita. Such as how much the 3G service will run us, or what kind of memory sticks will be compatable with the Vita. Like I said I love these kinds of updates but I would love it even more if you guys could answer those two pressing questions for me and probably others as well. Like I said thank you for the info you have given us, and I look forward to any new information you give us.

    You guys ROCK!

  • Will there be free 3G for Vita?

  • Twisted Metal is tha [DELETED] ,I played all of them and my fav. is tha forth one. They have to put it on Vita tha will be so COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don’t know if this is a silly suggestion or not but since when the Vita comes out we won’t be able to play our UMD based games on the Vita, why not put a patch out that would allow us to install our games to a memory stick and then we could use those installed games that are on the memory card on the Vita. I know this might sound like a silly suggestion and that you all might have thought of this by now but as much as I love them UMD games I have I really don’t want to have to buy them all over again. So please kindly keep my suggestion in mind.

  • I need that
I´ll die without it TOO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Will Ratchet and Clank come to ps vita. I am a big fan of ratchet and clank games made by Imsmniac. I hope very much ratchet and clank all 4 one will come to ps vita. If someone now about that, please comment it.

  • Im pretty sure the playstation Vita will be coming out on Dec.31 2011 I hope its true because i have been really looking forward to the PSV since it was originally called the Next Gen Portable. LOL!

  • What I want to know is how will you support the UMD’s for this if it doesn’t use the same stuff for the PSP? My idea is you could re-make the games on the PS-Vita and at the stores, you could trade the PSP games for the game on the PS-Vita.

  • And the movies too!

  • Or give activation codes to people in game stores. Such as, Game Stop.

  • Come on. I know you guys may have thrown this post up and decided to walk away, but still. Throw us a bone please. You have us hooked, heck I already have mine pre-ordered and almost payed off, but please tell us something new. we want at least some new information. Like I said how much will 3G be, what type of memory sticks will the system be compatible with, have you found a way for us to get our UMD games over to the Vita without having to buy them all over again? Inquiring minds want to know these things and probably much more. So please throw us a bone even if it is almost bare, at least a bone that answers some of these questions.

  • wheres my monster hunter portable 3rd huh? come on i wanna hear news about that coming to ps vita for us!!!

  • is the ps vita coming out in 3d because everything else is…

  • @#66

They have said in some other document that no it is not. They had thought about putting it in but do the increase in cost of the system and they feeling like it wasn’t a really necessary feature they opted out. Personally while I love watching my 3D movies and playing my 3D games at home I am glad that they decided not to put it in for one simple reason, with this system using augmented reality technology that means you will be turning the system around and maybe even at angles and with all of that in place you would lose the 3D effect. Heck take that portable system that is in 3D that I will not mention by name (and think will fail), just a slight degree off and the 3D effect is gone. Plus from all the reviews and every thing I have read with that system after a while the effect wares off plus gives many many many people headaches. So thank you Sony for not putting that into this system.

  • I want to know what is the release date for the Vita? Games look awesome I just want a release date. :-D

  • good point Apollo4x and at 68, all they sy is the holiday season so hopefully novenber…

  • the psvita is really going to change the way we play i can’t wait to have one in my own hans and test it

  • I wounder why it is that when they make posts into the Vita section they post and then they run and don’t answer any of our questions. I mean I understand that things are still works in progress for a lot of things but I am sure that out of all the questions that we have all ended up asking over time that there would be at least a few questions somewhere along the line that they could have answered. I’m sorry if I sound like I’m whining but just would love to get some more info even if it isn’t my questions being answered.

  • Sony Rules!!!!

  • how much will the 3g model cost monthly???

  • when is it coming out?

  • I know I sound like a broken record by now but could you please give us some info on the storage media the Vita uses (compatible types). Also could you please let us know what if any charges there will be for the 3G service. Also something new I was wondering about will the games media it’s self have storage on it for saves or will we have to purchase storage media to save as well as download games and the like to.

  • Man I cant wait for the ps vita!! I have probably seen the trailer at least a hundred times!!

  • I’m so hyped up for this beauty of a machine!

  • I hope the Vita has internal memory (like it’s older siblings) :) I heard it did not (STRIKE ONE). At least 16 gigs (like the PSP go) would be nice. I did reserve one. Can’t wait. It’s going to be my gaming / music / comics / podcast system but, if there is no memory, to at least get me started, I may have to reconsider. Also, from what I here, the memory cards may be different and incompatible to the previous versions (STRIKE TWO). Even though the Vita looks amazing and the specs are phenominal, the possible lack of internal memory might be a “deal breaker”. Of course, this ranting may be for nothing. The Vita probably has loads of memory or, since the release date is during a certain holiday season, the “POWERS THAT BE” probably have some Vita / memory / game bundle idea already cooked up….right?…. RIGHT?

  • Ok how am i supposed to play my old UMD games on the PSVITA if it doesnt support UMD and uses flash memory, and how much flash memory is gonna be available???? Someone please reply.

  • December 31st. So close. Wish it was released before Christmas, though. And I wish the white one came out at the same time so I could get that one. But still, this is going to be amazing. It’s got amazing features the PS3 doesn’t even have. I could see them making a whole console from this. Can’t wait! And very reasonable price, too! Half as much as the PSP was, pretty much.

  • I want my question answered! Will we still be able to play PSP UMD games on the PS-Vita?

  • If I were to buy a 3G version of the Vita from the States, would it automatically connect to the UK provider if I use it in the UK?
