Watch the 2011 EVO World Finals Live in PlayStation Home

EVOL Championship Series in PlayStation Home

The largest fighting game competition in the world is right around the corner and we are giving you, the PlayStation Home community, a front-row seat to witness the no-holds barred action of the 2011 EVO World Finals.

From Friday, July 29th until the final battle on Sunday, July 31st we will be streaming the event live from the Rio Resort in Las Vegas to the PlayStation Home Theater. Watch as competitors from around the globe duke it out on PS3 across five competitions: Marvel vs Capcom 3, Tekken 6, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II, and Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition. Players include 2009 and 2010 Street Fighter champion Daigo Umehara who will attempt an unprecedented “3-peat” victory. Along the way to his goal he’ll face one of the strongest fields of competitors ever assembled, including US legend Justin Wong, Korean wizard Poongko, French phenom Kayane, and UK champ Ryan Hart.

The purpose of this event is twofold: First, bring the world’s top fighting game competition directly to your PlayStation 3. Secondly, we have some new video streaming technology to test in the PlayStation Home Theater and what better opportunity than this? Join us for this special event and help us test this new video streaming technology by posting about your experience in GlassWalls’ EVO 2011 World Finals Stream Test thread on the official PlayStation Home forums. Attendees will receive a line of exclusive PlayStation Home/EVO virtual items: Visitors on Friday will receive a limited edition EVO t-shirt for their PlayStation Home avatar; on Saturday players will be rewarded with a special fighting stick companion item; and on Sun all viewers will receive a replica of the EVO trophy for their PlayStation Home personal spaces.

From high-profile grudge matches to the Grand Finals (running all day on Sunday, July 31st), this year’s EVO World Finals is not to be missed. Knuckle up and log into PlayStation Home this weekend to watch the best of the best throw down until only one champion remains.

    • Wish there was more MK planned to be on this stream, but still cool. Really like how the fighting games are getting some love….will be sure to drop in and check out some matches this weekend (especially for Marvel and MK).

    • Yay, im just hoping i can log in to home this time, on E3 i tried a thousand times to see the sony conference on home and i couldnt get in…

    • This is a pretty cool thing for ya’ll to do.

    • The end of the world is comming and you’ll wish u had time for praying:) lol

    • WAIT!… No SFIII3rdStrike tournament this year? on August come out the Online Edition, CRAPcom could organize some promotional tournament… I would pay to see The Beast (Daigo Umehara) unleashed again!

    • It’s too bad that the odds of Daigo winning are pretty damn high…

Daigo… He’s a monster in the fighting game tournament scene…He’s just too good.

    • One of the best things to happen in home. More live events from the real world like this needs to happen.

    • Ooh new streaming??? Way to upgrade. How bout the flashplayer in ps3 browser, upgrade that. Lookin forward to what you guys are doin. Also, as mentioned above, it says we will be seein those games on the ps3 version. Does that mean only the ps3? Are the final fights on the ps3? So, what I’m wonderin if they aren’t, does that mean we can’t watch them?

    • This is awesome. I’m glad we are getting another event geared towards the gamers in Home. I’ll be looking forward to this. Thanks for the info Locust :-)

    • See You There!!

    • Any chance for some live commentry? i would really like to hear some team spooky on the stream! :D

    • The 3ds is toast. :)

    • @58: I think its the official EVO stream. And if I read correctly, Ultra David and James Chen will be commentating, which is awesome. I would imagine other people would pop in from time to time – hoping for Gootecks and Mike Ross. They really made the Shadowloo Showdown streams extremely enjoyable.

On topic, this is amazing. Gives me a reason to download Home again!

    • Good look, Sony!
      Cant wait for Friday!

    • Nice- Hope the streams are good and the quality is good.

    • Hadoken….shoryuken……tttttyyyyuuuttt…..whatever

    • This is pretty awesome.

    • Sweet! Evo Coming to PShome!? Show cant get any better..Im really looking foward to seeing Daigo take a shot at MvsC3.

    • I’ve never used PS Home before.
Can some explain the exact step I need to take to watch the stream?

    • @bluerei

Team Spooky is not streaming through there justin.tv channel. TS and Iplaywinner are streaming though an official EVO channel on ustream. I do believe however that the salty suites will be on IPW’s j.tv page.

    • Anything about The King of Fighters XIII Tournament?

Will there be a streaming too? =)

    • Man i wish i could watch this!

    • Hi guys can somebody please tell me how to watch this, im new to the whole Home thing and im not really sure.

thanks a lot and im super excited about this!

    • Exactly where in PShome will this event take place?

    • whats the deal with this there is no stream in the theater what so ever no posters no advertisement, there was at least 30 people there earlier all wondering when it was going to start, it states Friday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM Super Street Fighter IV Tournament, Early Rounds. please could someone give me some info on when its going to start already missed half the street fighter Tournament =(

    • anyone know in what auditorium?

    • Whats up with it not streaming, not even downloading

    • The live stream was on PS Home was disappointing. The resolution was pretty low and it kept freezing every 10 minutes. The stream on ustream, on the other hand, worked great, and the resolution was also much higher. I didn’t see much reason to go to PS Home after I tried it when I first got my PS3. All that the buggy low-quality stream did was reinforce this.

    • i got all three items i don’t wanna watch the matches because i don’t care i just wanted the items :D

    • the stream in HOME was awful, I feel sorry for all the people who stayed and watched it in HOME instead of watching it Ustream on the PC.

what a disapointment to all who were hyped to watch it in the HOME community.

    • I am watching it on UStream because PS Home was awful quality and lagged/stuttered.

For a big event like this that Sony is advertising, you should of prepared your infrastructure.

    • I have seen some on the PlayStation HOME and it sure is pretty good to enjoy the view of it. :-)

    • Light_Soldier777

Can someone help me please when I was playing online mw2 today my ps3 turned off and a blinking red light appeared then I turned it of and everything was OK. What that means can someone tell me please.

    • Light_Soldier777

      on* sorry.

    • Pretty much watched the latter half of MK9 and all of the Marvel top 8 finals in Home and didn’t get the Day 3 item. Just putting it out there. Stream froze multiple times. Missed out on some great stuff because I had to refresh it. Will I get comped the next time I log into Home?

    • Kung Lao won.

    • The stream kept freezing on everyone (that was typing) where I was, people either had to keep resetting it (by hitting “link” instead of “full video”, then closing the browser), or they got frustrated and left. An improvement over the E3 attempt, but still not quite there. Still a good time though, I hope this happens every year.
