Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

We complain because it’s a mandatory update for everybody, not just for Plus members. If I’m going to download it, I expect to get something out of it, right?
EVERY system forces you to update. Its all to protect their hardware. No one else complains! Sony used to allow optional updates because they were so confident in their system and tried to give people some slack. That was until it was hacked. Now cause of those hackers, they decided to tighten up the leash.
The only people who are complaining are the ones who what Other OS so bad cause they can’t use their damn computer, which they can install Linux and play emulators on it. Oh and let me not forget about the pirates! They too complain cause they want online service but want to steal games.
I don’t wanna hear that crap where people want to back up their games “legally” so their “original” disc doesn’t get scratched, or that its cause if you put the actual game on the PS3’s HDD it runs faster and your system doesn’t get as hot. I’ve heard it all. Its just excuses after excuses with these kind of people.

Everyone was happy with the free online service, Sony comes out with Plus, no one wants, they add features for Plus Members, people get mad. WTF! Grow a half a brain! You get what you pay for! You pay for a system and no subscription fee = FREE online play! You pay for the Plus Subscription = FREE online play PLUS other great features!
I just want to know when is the world going to mature? Nowadays it seems that most of the men that are born today are b!tches, always PMSing for some little crap.

Just to clear up something, when I say “EVERY system”, I’m talking about XBOX360 and Wii, and I guess PC.
@explosive78 , lol good question. i would imagine since this was the most discussed topic of the week that it would attract attention by powers that be, but not the case. and when they do reply its usually the first so many questions/comments (say 10 – 40) then they move on. but this one is a tricky one which they may have decided that it is best to give no answer, better to give no answer than a right to some wrong to others reply because there isnt an answer which everyone will agree on in this topic. guess thats why.. gotta guess when you have no idea.lol
They need to fix the software. Ive been in ps home and I started freezing alot. Which I never freeze. Ive been playing in ps home 5 hours each day for the last 3 weeks. The software came around the end of the second week of playing. Then everything went down from there. Some servers were not working good in some places and I freezed 6 times since the software came out. One time it froze so bad It gave me a message the next time I turned on the PS3 to report the problem of the PS3 turning off wrong. If anyone else is haveing problems like me comment. Also I’ve read some comments about netflix freezing and video games. THIS SOFTWARE NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

This is one of the worst updates ever.
@SilentShadow: I don’t think it’s the worst update ever, but I do think it is one of the biggest slaps in the face to non-PS+ users.
The “TV/Video Services” should’ve been developed as “Media Services.” It makes more sense to include Qriocity Music with Netflix, Hulu, and other non-Playstation centric services, and you can also include the various apps found on Bravia Internet like Pandora.
Well if they put auto trophy sync for only PS+ users and if they add Cross Game Chat soon. They will most likely make it and exclusive for PS+ users also. Which people will be outraged. I dont care if PS+ users say we pay so we get stuff. We still deserve free stuff since psn was down for two months.
After setting my PS3 to autosync my trophies at 4-6am. After playing 3 new games and getting a ton of trophies my PS3 never synced anything nor did it upload my game saves for the games I marked to be updated (the new games that I played)
Anyone having a similar issue?

Nothing for us none plus subscribers. I wouldn’t mind having a better browser. Don’t know if others have the same problem as myself but my browser is arwfully slow and sometimes crashes my PS3. If only we had firefox?
cross game chat isn’t important to me but is clearly the must have feature for most gamers, so Sony why isn’t it here yet? well over due!!! Does anyone from Sony actually read in these forums? because if they do they are ignoring their loyal supporters. Sony’s lucky they got the best games on their systems, this is the only reason we stay with them even after all our moaning

While I think this is a great update… I barely saw any comments on the 3D portion of it. Goes to show how many people actually have a 3DTV and/or takes advantage of lossless audio. oh wells :P

I have a question to anybody that can answer it. Ever since the update, I haven’t been able to connect with my media servers to the PS3. Does anybody know why this has happened? I really need help.
PS3 Slims are still freezing.
Is there a way we can get an update that will fix the zillion ps3 slim freezing problems. Its a great product, just want to be able to enjoy what I purchased!
Is anyone else having problems with this update? On a few games i play, the whole playstation will just freeze up.

Sony is all about taking away things :/ first they remove linux and the ability to play ps2 games from the consoles. then they come with PS+ and simple updates (that I don’t even care about but that’s besides the point) are for PS+ members only…basically taking away updates for people not paying that extra €50 a year.
btw @ Grubbyashes PS3 can freeze regardless mate. It’s more the games fault though. For example Saints row 2 is known to freeze on ps3, but it also does on the 360. Just bad programming.
Am I the only one who has no idea how to use this? I have mine set to auto update from 6 – 8 am. According to the description under Auto Update in the system settings, it is supposed to turn itself on, sync trophies and auto download saves to the online storage, then turn off.
When I turn my system on, though, it hasn’t been done. Any saves I make before that time are not uploaded to online storage, and my trophies still need to be synced. Anyone else having this issue?
For example, just checked my online storage and Deus Ex, which I played last night until around 2am, should have uploaded the saves to my online storage at 6, but it’s not there. As far as I can tell, the system never even turned on. So, I have the update, I have PS Plus, but I don’t have what Sony promised in the update.
And, yes, I turned on the auto upload when the game first started up, and checked it again after putting the disk in and it still shows it set for auto upload.

Sony said flat out that cross game chat cannot and will never happen. It takes too much memory away from the system and would cause lag. Unfortunately, he basically admitted that the PS3 has less ram than a 360. Alas, there you have it. In fact, here is the article this was in:
