Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

And those who are Plus subscribers, before you talk smack to those who cant or dont want to pay for Plus, get off your high horse.
Dear Sony, I know you can do better… So with that said, all Updates, Features, Games, Demo’s, Wallpapers, Avators that are contunuesly being added to the system should be a privilidge and be “Free” to use for “Everyone” and not just for certain people.
Myself, including millions of other people around the world, payed big bucks for your system, we should all enjoy these benefits for free.
Last but not least, on your next system update please do something with Youtube to make it in High Definition.

First off I want to say that this is a very welcome update as any new features are great. Being a plus member I am excited to learn of auto sync of trophies and game saves. Although my feedback would be that I think that the trophy sync should be available to all users not just PS+. I can see why game uploads would be PS+ but trophies should be for all PSN users. Again this is a very welcome update and I know you all are working hard to implement new features such as party like the Vita to ensure the greatest connection between the two platforms. Mark my words, Sony knows we want cross game chat and it’s coming. Not only will it serve as universal party system across both PS3 and Vita, but it will also bring universal cross platform chat and play. It’s going to rock. Sit tight as the wait is going to be worth it, don’t doubt them. Oh and I wouldn’t mind updated player profiles like the ones I have seen on the vita. Sony FTW!
Hey, at the expense of sounding mean, you PS+ members are sheep… at least most of you… paying for something that should be free to everyone… system features; and you’re only adding to the problem by encouraging them. But HEY, you get the features, so why should you care if no one else does, right? Well, first off, stop thinking about yourself, and you should be getting them without having to pay a subscription. This reminds me why so many chose PS3 over the competition; because we didn’t have to pay for basic functionality.
And Sony, not that you care at all, but you have been screwing up the XMB since 3.00. Thanks for that. Now I have another unnecessary thing that makes what used to be one of my favorite and visually appealing interfaces more cluttered, ugly, obnoxious, and inconvenient. Not that most of the tasteless sheep that comment here care whatsoever (cause, honestly, you could take a bowl movement on their heads and they will smile, thank you, or not notice).
Also, don’t say that you look forward to our feedback, or any lies like that… I highly doubt you even look at our comments, let alone consider our feedback/criticism seriously or with any care at all…. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that I KNOW you don’t, considering your censorship and dismissive/inactive response to the 3.00 debacle/outrage… I don’t remember if you deleted the comments to the 3.00 blog post, but I know you wouldn’t allow any more comments after thousands of negative feedback. And considering the inaction to that and the continued ignorance, I assume you didn’t learn anything or that you honestly just don’t care what we want/think.

@ rbanke i’m also a Plus subscriber and i think this feature is stupid in general and not fair for non-sub lol. If it was private party chat like XBL just for Plus subs then it would be fair you know.

Auto Trophy Sync about darn tine (keeping it clean)… I’ve only wanted it for 5 years.. the other box has been doing this forever. now we just need voice chat from any game.. I can be done, the ps3 has beast hardware, USE it sony!!!

It really isn’t fair to see all of these neat things but to find out I can’t use them because I can’t keep up with my subscription.
This is great but it a poor idea TO JUST HAVE IT FOR PLUS SUBSCRIBERS! it should be for everyone, in fact it should of started out this way when trophies were released. I feel jabbed at my side that they would do this….. uhhhhh upsetting

Why would they add bonus features for those not paying for bonus content? I pay for plus to get the extra stuff. Too many cheap people in the world. Do you not get to play games online for free? Then there ya go.
This is utterly disgraceful!! Way to take a microsoft way of thinking guys! I bought a PS3 for it’s free online play and you are slowly pushing the free members away with stupid updates like this. If things keep up Im not buying the next Xbox or playstation, just stick with WII U. I don’t feel like a chump then for giving a company 40 pound a year to use it’s online services. You get hacked, bring the online service down for a month and you get this stupid idea in the process? No wonder peaple hate you! ARGH stupid sony, get real and give us all this feature. My 3DS downlods while it’s asleep and does so at no cost to me!!

Finally outo-sync but im still not going to buy PSN+, all we need now is cross game chat. Add cross game chat to PS3 and i will buy PSN+. Hope to see cross chat in the next update
If this is supposed to be a “Big Update” then this is sad. Not a single thing here is something I am remotely interested. And the fact that the biggest thing about the update, requires you to be a Playstation Plus subscriber is rediculous. I pay enough money as it is, with every new game costing me the usual $60, I don’t want to have a monthly fee for Updates to matter to me. Disappointed.

I very rarely comment on the PS Blog posts, but on the off chance that someone from Sony reads this, here goes. When people have posted on the Share blog that they want Auto Syncing trophies, this is not what they meant. To be perfectly honest, this is a half-assed version of that. When someone asks for Auto Syncing Trophies, what they want is you unlock a trophy, and it goes straight onto your PSN profile online. They don’t want to set the clock on the PS3 to sync their trophies automatically. They want it done INSTANTLY, you know, like how Microsoft has been doing with the 360 for almost six years. And making this an exclusive thing for PSN+ subscribers is just plain stupid. In the end, it’s easier to continue manually syncing trophies than to do the auto updating.
As a long time Playstation fan, it’s updates like this leave me a bit disheartened. It just seems to me that there is little connection between Sony and their customers. They just don’t seem to understand what people want.
Lame updates for us end users, as usual.
I’m sure that this system update is more for the benefit of Sony hardware (pushing their 3D hardware that most consumers are indifferent to) and to further improving their system security.

That’s not true auto-sync Sony. You’re only camouflaging a scripted sync.
On a sidenote, I hope you’ll give cross-game voice chat to everyone, and not exclusively to Plus subscribers. You’ve been promising this since way before Playstation Plus was announced. Don’t be greedy.

you guys complain too damn much. We don’t need cross-game chat. There is no point in playing SOCOM 4 and talking to someone playing MAG! And most games come with a party system…the system itself doesn’t need one. The text/videochat works just fine if you want to chat without being in a game. You guys want the ps3 to be like a 360, go [DELETED] buy one! sheesh!
like i said before when will we something useful i mean come on new folders new things to ps plus (which ps plus is useless to me the online play isnt better). there free updates so im happy but something useful please anytime soon

If you all do add Cross Game Chat (It can’t be that much longer away. Realistically if the Vita is going to run it, it’ll have to be linked in with PSN somehow. I can’t see it being solely on Vita if PSN will have to support the feature…)
Make it so Cross Game Chat can ONLY be activated while playing single player games or outside of gameplay. The only “multiplayer” source that should support CGC is Home. Any multiplayer title that already has in game chat SHOULD NOT support the CGC feature. It’s completely pointless to chat with friends playing other games while you’re online playing with other people.
If CGC is allowed under any circumstances it will completely ruin the competitive/cooperative aspects of many games while playing online, namely titles that rely on online such as MAG.
Sony Im seeing a lawsuit coming your away. Come on, really Plus members only??? You guys suck major A$$, I had the free subscription to plus. It sucks aint nothing on there but shyt you gotta pay for which should be free since your charging a fee monthly tri-annual semi-annual etc.. This is why X-Box stays ahead of you. It gives all its loyal customers what “THEY” ask for. This update is a slapp in the face to your non-plus customers. Its a useless update, I understand its a company that survives off making $$$$$$$ but damn F**K**g your customers with no KY is harsh. I think I speak for most when I say step up your company and please us loyal customers fully. ( Bad enough you guys made us wait 2-3 months to up the network again.) F***K a PLus membership… Satisfy all loyal sony customers #imjustsaying….
