Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

LMAO, look at the kids whining because mommy wont buy them plus….. You pay for a premium service you will get more, its not a hard concept. If you dont want to pay you do without, again, simple concept. Go to MS$ and you have to pay just to play online and get demos on-time.
Sony is not a charity and PSn is getting more and more expensive to maintain, get a clue and stop being such whiney self entitled kids.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed PlayStation Plus in the past (both paid and the free month), and while I have no problem with exclusive betas, timed demos, or PSN discounts being part of PlayStation Plus, I feel it is quickly becoming PlayStation Live Gold when basic PS3 functions are being placed behind a pay wall. Don’t become your competitor, Sony. There is a reason I only own a PS3.
Another complete and total failure by Sony. What a complete insult to your users. You haven’t done ANYTHING in your customers interest in well over a year. Let me be the first to say that my account will cease activity as soon as the next generation of consoles comes. If it be Nintendo, or Microsoft, or anyone. You ruined the ps3 for me.

@222, give me a break. If you need to have party chat to socialize you are a nerd licing in moms basement. I socialize all the time, face to face, i also have a thing called a phone. Why would I want to talk to my friends all the time? I play games to relax and unwind. Why would I want to chat when Im playing God of War and my friends are playing Uncharted?
U act like you cannot chat on PS3? The only diff is you need to be in the same game. Big deal. Cross game chat is the most overrated annoying feature i have ever used, and I own the other box as well. When I am playing the same game I party up and chat on PS3 just fine.
There is still content in this update not pertaining to PLUS, as well, Im sure there is more under the covers like security, etc..

surprisingly enough, the PS3 is NOT as powerful as you give it credit, you have to remember the hardware inside is over 5 years old, and in Computers terms that’s ancient and outdated. The PS3 can not handle all the things you would like because its not fast enough. You won’t be listened to so why do you even complain, PSBlog can’t do anything and is not directly related to SCEA, something that has been expressed numerous times by PSBlog….
Yeah Cross game chat would be nice, but if they wanted to do it, they would have, they’ve had 5 years of complaining and done nothing. At least the PSV will have it.
And PS2 use on the PS2 was phased out because of expense. It was costing Sony $150 for the chip, which was removed after the MGS4 model, so unless they came to your house and installed it, nothing would happen.
Think before you complain, its not like anyone cares.

Auto Trophy syncing is a premium feature?
You clearly didn’t think this one through very much. Are the trophy cards going to automaticly refresh every night now too or do we still have to manually update those as well?
Also, I wouldn’t call the ability to virally market your games for you for free a firmware feature.

I have a job. How, about you? From what I can tell you are an immature and under educated fool. I’m sorry you do not seem to grasp what “ethics” are and mean. You call it “complaining”, but I call you a pitiful “enabler”, and fool in which is too ignorant to see what is happening around them. When you can accurately comeback with a proper response and argument instead of attempting to sit so, high and might atop your high horse (because, you somehow feel entitled to do so.) PlayStation Plus is not some “premium service”. It’s a sham, and ruse at shoving glitter and tassles on certain features and minor products in which to react a response on a simple basic level (such as that of the more common “raven”. In which it adores “shiny” object and covets them.)
It’s funny when superfluous fools such as yourselves buy into such crap and then somehow feel that for buying into a common “coupon book” of a service and program that you somehow feel self righteous. When in truth you are no more then a common tool.

I have tried to add many suggestions to the playstation blog share and none of them get added. I look at the suggested close relating topics and none of them are even close. Sony needs to stop worrying about movies, videos and 3d. This is a gaming console FIRST!! Add gaming features!

@264, your IQ must be lower then the raven then? This might blow your mind, MANY find the features/offers from plus more then worth its weight in gold. Sony is a business and owe you nothing, dont like it dont buy or or get an xbox, then you will really see what nickle and dimeing means (150 Hard Drives, pay to play online etc…)
Again, PSn keeps growing and you cannot expect sony to keep offering everything for free, they are not a charity, not a hard concept, for even an amoeba to understand. Don’t like it do without or buy a crapbox and its money scheming and its lack of exclusives.

If you don’t want the service, or the “coupon book” as you put it, don’t buy it. Attacking me for being proud of what I am able to buy just makes you hostile, and hostility is the biggest breeder of ignorance. you all must have something really big stopping you from x game chat. A patent, money or something in the works for the future. possibly you guys just don’t know how to do it. Either way it doesn’t make sense from a business stand point not to give the players what they want when it could increase your market % incredibly. maybe cross game chat is your saving grace in case the sales start to slide toward xbox. but you guys have been outselling them since day 1 so that’s far fetched whatever its is, its a Trojan horse in this generation. because to me playstation service far exceeds the xbox service but cross game chat is what people talk about. thanks for the update and keep up the work

the idea is to try and get more people to get ps + so it is fair that ps+ gets this everything they add can cost money . u are still able to play online for free. be thankful to sony for that . im a plus member from the door and will continue to support sony . for all they do . from how sony came out the door from the start with there tiny features to what they have now i think sony , i know sony will pass ms on features . good job sony .
I’m a PS+ subscriber and I am a little upset the auto trophy sync is for members only. I agree with the auto game saves online sync being a PS+ exclusive feature but the auto trophy sync should be universal.

I Would Also like my PS3 to turn into an Xbox 360.
For me PLUS is worth it just because of the online storage. And now we are getting more stuff; free games/DLC discounted games/DLC. It only keeps getting better and better :D.

@281, its the lack of system memory, and the fact PS3 software was never designed to work with cross game chat. PS3 will never get Xross game chat.
Great update for BD 3D playback, please get the XMB music visualizers in 3D too! we want more features on firmware updates!!

Dear Eric,
I’m extremely disappointed with all the updates. Don’t get me wrong, I love new features but it feels like you’ve stopped supporting the PS3 unless your a PS+ subscriber. You need to improve the PS3 as a whole not just for those who subscribe to PS+. I know your trying to add value to PS+ by supplementing features that should be there for all of us but that isn’t the way to go about it.
First let me ask why the PS3 doesn’t have these simple features yet…?

If the PS3 is supposed to be the Ultimate Media Hub I think It should surpass the PSP is options. Sadly it has not :,-( .
Also could you fix the PSP so that when you hit Select it brings up the display like the PS3 does. Ohh and in all the categories including Photo, Music, & Video.

I think it will be better if the trophies can by synced online right when you get them unlocked (if your connected to the psn at the time, if not right when you sign in). I’m not trying to compare the ps3 to the 360 but that shouldnt be hard to do, and voice chat without having to be in a dedicated lobby please :)

for those of you complaining look at 291 that’s what there trying to do get more which means more improvements to the service which means more for everyone.
I’m not plus member so I wish this update was optional. People there probably won’t even be a big update to the vita comes out so calm down does it suck if we have to wait that long yes? But we got nothing to lose for a free service XBL better have good features because you pay and it’s been out for almost 9yrs. And I’m sure they know we x game chat but complaining ain’t going to make it come any faster so be mad or disappointed it ain’t going to come any faster.
